Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2022
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
He seems to deny the claim about saying something earlier, and Kaylie simply shrugs with a smile. "Like said, just my imagination." She simply states to conclude the topic. "You know me... sometimes I hear things that others don't hear. Although..." She doesn't want to repeat herself again, so she looks away with a small blush.
[break][break]Then she turns to the monitor to choose a character. Kaylie smiles at the avatar in front of her; a cute girl with purple flowing hair and grey eyes. A long, magenta dress hugs her body, and she holds a katana on one hand. Kaylie seems to like the avatar and she nods in approval to herself; that was until Tobi said something that made her whip her head to his direction so suddenly.
[break][break]"U-Umm..." She stammers, not knowing what to say at this point right now. Her character was cute, yes, but Kaylie herself? Cute? When in a million years would Kaylie be cute like Tobias had claimed? Was he just lying or was he telling the truth? Or was she just in denial that she was in fact cute--
[break][break]She twirls a strand of white hair around her finger and smiles, the small red blush still there. "Th... Thank you... for both compliments, I guess...?" She smiles sheepishly at the man before turning to the computer, sighing to herself. Did that just happen? Because apparently it looked like it did.
[break][break]Trying to change the topic, she looks over to Tobi's character and grins. "Wow. You're character is hot." She comments, pointing to the avatar in the screen in admiration. Hot like you... She wanted to add, but things could get much awkward if she put it that way, so she scratched the plan. "And Axel fits him as a name, too! Not like mine," She pouts while pointing to her character. "I mean, who names a cute girl Griselda?"
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]HAHAHA Tobi you're such a dork!! XD
he brain was currently yelling at him to stop. though he couldn't the words had already left his mouth. what an idiot. tobias simply shakes his head at kaylie's words and starts working on his character. choosing hair, eye color and all the necessary things was going to be a challenge. he wanted to make his character fit his name or at least come close to it.
had he been holding his breath? he was certainly avoiding eye contact. he could just die of embarrassment right now. he was glad she hadn't take the compliment? could that be called a compliment? anyways, he was glad she hadn't take it the wrong way. he sighed softly."don't mention it."honestly she hoped she didn't. again not that she wasn't cute, but because the sheer fact that he had called her that was completely out of place. sure tobi had his share of crushes on cute girls, but never had he told anyone single one of them that they were cute. he was too shy.
after that little mishap it got quiet between them. tobias was still working on his character. he completely focused. he had gone with dark hair short hair and blue eyes. boots were on his feet, dark brown pants, a white shirt and a black vest. he was deciding on a weapon when her voice brought him back."you think so? tall dark and handsome...i guess."he said with a laugh."haha, well um you."he said teasingly."you could always give her a nickname."he suggested."if you think about it this way, i don't think anyone who encounters her will forget her name."
"Don't mention it", he said. Honestly, Kaylie wished she wouldn't, but a sudden compliment like that from a man that she just recently met flattered her, that she can't take it off her mind anymore. She knew she wasn't used to compliments like this, so why does it affect her this much? After this statement, she simply nods then turns to her screen, saying nothing more.
[break][break]After a few minutes of silence, her eyes gaze over to the in-progress character on Tobi's screen, and she starts complimenting it. He seems flustered with this, and she giggles, thinking it was cute that he felt that way. Then they turn to her character, Griselda, and after she complains about her, Tobi suggests giving her a nickname. Which, too be honest, could actually work better if Kaylie didn't want to call her character an old woman.
[break][break]"Nicknames... why haven't I thought about that before?" She muses while staring at the character who needed the said nickname; then she grins at Tobi and lightly punches him on the arm. "Thanks for bringing that up." She grazes a finger through her chin, eyes glaring at the ceiling as she tried to think of a name.
[break][break]"Gris... Selda... Sel... El..." Short random names start to pour out of her mouth, but one particular name catches her attention. "...Sel. Sel looks cute enough. Doesn't make her sound like an old woman, I guess. But I like it." She mutters to herself, then turns to Tobi. "Right. Sel. So if we want to call her anything, it should be Sel. Otherwise if you call her by her real name she could kill you." She states with a small chuckle.
[break][break]"Just kidding~. But Sel it is."
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]Yes they're both dorks. I can see it now. Because they're just too cute I can't--
he wasn't sure how long they had been there now. it had taken them quite some time to create their characters, but they were on a roll. he looked behind him out of curiosity and there was no one waiting for them to be done. so that was a good sign. he continued with the rest of the selections and at last his character axel had been completed."so what is this game about. i think i forgot to ask."he said with a chuckle.
he smiled at her question about nicknames. he figured not saying anything would be okay. he honestly didn't have anything funny to add."any time."he told her with a nod."selda isn't a bad choice either."he told her."having choices is good too."then again having too many choices could become a problem."sel is good and no it doesn't sound like an old lady name to me."he said with a chuckle.
"i'll make sure axel takes a note of that then. he doesn't want to die just yet."he chuckles once more.
It had been quite some time since they had entered the arcade, but Kaylie doesn't seem to notice, too focused on the game she and Tobias are about to play. Kaylie's Griselda is all well and prepared now; so is Tobias' Axel, she figured. The young woman nods to herself and faces the screen, placing her fingers on the keyboard while the game starts to load. "Alright. Time to get ready." She hums to herself in excitement.
[break][break]Tobi then asks what the game is all about, and as she waits for the game to load, she faces the ceiling with a wondering look on her face. "Hmm... I don't remember much, but..." She suddenly grins, almost as if she had successfully remembered something really important. "It's a new fantasy game, and like the usual, you always go into quests and stuff. There are two playable modes for this game; the single player and the multi-player mode." She looks at the screen with a raised eyebrow. "If I remember correctly, the player could always choose which mode they want to play, but I guess the managers here installed the game which makes us play it multi-player by default."
[break][break]Hey, it's not like it's a bad thing. In fact, it's much more fun to actually get to play the game without ever doing it all alone; you've got other people to have fun with. Perhaps the employees of the arcade knew about this and decided install it to multi-player mode by default.
[break][break]Tobias then makes comments about her character's nickname, and she smiles sheepishly, scratching her head. "Haha, well thank you for that compliment-- oh the game is on." She then starts pressing on the keyboard to see if it's actually working now. She then turns to the young man once he reassures her that he will let Axel know about this; she laughs as a response, shaking her head. "Haha, he better remember that. Sel's gonna kill him otherwise." She states with a grin.
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]Late reply, I'm so sorry for the delay!
he was waiting for kaylie to finish her character. his phone had buzzed in his pocket and he had decided to check it. it was a text message from his brother, asking where he was at. he debated telling him. knowing if he showed up and saw him with kaylie he'd make a big fuss."sweet."he said with a smile once she had said she was ready. he quickly shoved his phone back into his pocket.
he nodded as she explained as best as she could what the game was about."you had me at multiplayer. let's just hope im not that bad at this."he said with a chuckle."so that means we're a team? good because i know you'd beat me if it was one on one."he laughs once more.
he smiles at her words of thanks and turns his attention back to the screen in front of them."i wonder what this button does."he says mostly to himself as he starts testing the controls. he laughs at her words.

Kaylie notices Tobi taking his phone out of his pocket from the corner of her eye; he seems to be checking on something, or someone texted him, and while Kaylie wanted to point this out to him, she figured she didn't have the right to do so. Kaylie's eyes remain fixated on the screen, trying to finish Griselda as soon as possible; she would have to ask him about it once either of them are done with their characters.
[break][break]Griselda is finally finished in a matter of minutes. She talks to him about it, and she receives a reply, a small simple "sweet" from the young man. She notices him shove his phone into his pocket again; her curiosity is piqued and she couldn't help herself from asking anymore. "Thanks." She begins, before looking and pointing over to his pocket. "By the way... what was that about? I saw you take out your phone a while earlier." She didn't want to sound nosy, but somehow she just wanted to know if he was busy and would decide to cancel their game or not. Either one is fine, she could understand.
[break][break]After she tells him what the game is about, and explains the mechanics and how it had already been multiplayer by default, she giggles once he relates that he is glad it had been multiplayer; otherwise she'd be sure to beat him. "Haha, you got that right. But I'm glad we're playing together as a team." She says, a small pink blush starting to form on her face.
[break][break]Wait... did I just say that...?
[break][break]She shakes her head and focuses on the game; they are now on a terrain, and sure enough, Grisela is next to Axel. Tobi starts wondering what some buttons might do, and she observes him with a small smile. It's kinda cute, how he's curious this way. "Hmm... I dunno... maybe it makes your character walk." She mumbles almost quietly, testing the buttons herself. "Eyup. It makes your character walk." She says with a nod.
[break][break]"By the way, what would happen to the deal now that we aren't playing against each other...?" She mutters to herself. Then an idea pops up and she turns to him with a grin. "How about this... whoever dies first would get each other a treat. Makes for a better alternative~" She sticks her tongue out at him while she says this.
it seemed like he hadn't been as discreet as he thought. he smiles at her words of thanks and soon is asking about him taking his phone out. he laughed softly and ran his fingers through his hair."i wasn't trying to ignore you or something."he started."it was just my brother. letting me know where they were at. nothing major."he told her with a smile."we still have plenty of time to play."he sighed internally. how lame did that sound. making him seem like he was still a little kid needing permission to stay.
sure they had all arrived in the same car, but he was plenty sure there were other ways he could return home. honestly he wasn't too worried about it.
eventually the conversation come back to the game. he smiles at her."me too."he chuckles once more as he tries to figure the controls."right, you're right. okay i think i got the hang of this...maybe."he nods.
"the deal. oh, wow i completely forgot till you mentioned it. that sounds fair."he told her with a grin."and i just saved your life."he told her with a laugh as his character ended up killing something that had been running towards their characters.
Looks like the cat's out of the bag. Tobi finally seems to give up and he tells her why he'd taken his pocket out. The girl raises an eyebrow with a smirk, nodding in understanding afterward before turning to the screen. It's understandable for one to receive a text from a very close relative. She figured he hadn't asked permission from them if they had asked where he was, then.
[break][break]"You must've sneaked off without them knowing, then~" She cooed, a smirk finding itself through her face. "Why else would they have texted you if it was otherwise? Or... maybe I'm wrong and there's another reason why." Kaylie's smirk suddenly falters into a small smile. There may be other reasons why he had found himself to this arcade and meeting her in coincidence. "Also, that would be wonderful. Much more time to spend with you~"
[break][break]Then he brings up the deal from a while earlier, and she nods in approval. "Yep! Haha, for a moment I was also in a mental block about it--" Her sentence trails off into oblivion when Tobi tells her that he'd saved Sel from potential death. The young woman's eyes widen and she turns to her screen-- sure enough, there's a monster trying to attack both characters, but luckily Axel was there to save the day.
[break][break]"O-Oh. Oh shoot." She mumbles under her own breath, as more monsters run over to them to strike an attack. Kaylie finally regains her focus and she makes Griselda fire an arrow at one of them, and while it does not kill it instantly, at least it injures it. Kaylie nods and turns to him with a smile. "Good gracious. I've gotta thank Axel for that." A giggle suddenly escapes her lips as she keeps shooting on the monsters again. "Sadly I can't let Griselda loose or I'll lose the deal~"
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]Hhhh these two are just-- so lovely <3
he laughed at her statement."no, actually quite the opposite. they all ditched me."he told her with a shrug. though he had been under the impression that they were going to explore together. almost as soon as they had gotten there, everyone had different places they wanted to go. so off they went, leaving tobias behind.
now he didn't mind it. he was content wandering around by himself. you could say he was used to being on his own. it didn't bother him, not when that's how he had lived for most of his life. his parents didn't have other children. sure he had zach, but even he ended up leaving.
he grins at her words. afraid to say them aloud or repeat them in case he didn't hear her right. he was sitting on cloud nine right now. though it was interrupted by the game. he returned his focus and laughed as he watched kaylie's sel spring into action along side axel."challenge accepted."he chuckled as he had axel continue to fight the monsters till they were all gone.
Being ditched is... well... it's an unsavory experience, something that people might actually feel bad or angry for. However, for Kaylie, it's only natural for her to experience such things. She's seen it once, she'll be bound to see it again (especially in the hands of none other than Zoraya Friyar). She did wonder if Tobi feels the same, though. Either he feels equally indifferent about it, or either he's simply trying to hide the fact that he's also quite angry inside.
[break][break]Griselda slashes her way through the crowd of monsters; she notches an arrow and it hits monsters lurking from far away, and with her blade she starts stabbing and slashing against the monsters nearby. She advances toward Axel according to Kaylie's control of her; even if it's a challenge, it's only normal for two characters to protect each other from death, or else they lose. This almost, always happens in real life.
[break][break]Tobi accepts the challenge, and Kaylie grins with challenge etched on her face. "Nice to see you're game." She purrs with a rather sly tone. But then, as she turns back to the computer, her face suddenly darkens and a small smile finds its way to her face. "...Though too be honest, I don't think I'm ever going to win the challenge anyway."
[break][break]She hoped she had said that as quiet as possible. A few moments of silence and she turns back to Tobias again, blinking and smiling almost uncertainly. "O-Oh. I'm sorry, where were we?" Turning to the game, she giggles nervously at her own idiocy. "Oh. The game. Yes. Sorry."
[break][break]She hoped he didn't hear that. In fact, she hoped he wouldn't mind any of the things that had just happened seconds ago. It gets embarrassing to think of over time. And... it doesn't help having to show her pessimistic side all so suddenly.
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]Hhhh these two are just-- so lovely <3
everyone had paired up and of course it was only natural he'd be the fifth wheel. he didn't mind though. that's what he kept telling himself. though now he was glad they had left him behind. he could just picture it now. his brother teasing him over kaylie. the mere thought made his cheeks burn.
tobi returned his attention back to the game. he had no intention of winning. if losing meant having to buy kaylie something he was all for it. though he was planning on getting her something anyway. he wasn't usually this spontaneous, but he wanted her to have something to remember this night and him of course. not that he would admit that to her. he was sure to turn beet red and the last thing he wanted to do was scare her off.
he did not want to mess this up. he had been so focused on the game he turned to look at her when he thought she had said something."what was that?"he said before turning his attention back to the screen. he chuckled softly as axel continued picking off enemies."what happens if we both lose?"he asked as he watches his health bar. while he had been distracted axel had taken a few hits.
Too be honest, the deal is senseless. Even if either of them would lose the game, she'd still decide on buying him something that would at least make him happy. Hanging out together with a man she shared some interests with (they discussed it together in the library not too long ago) was probably something Kaylie always enjoyed. Besides, she gets to know the other more just by sitting beside him and playing a few games. Buying him something would be a simple act of appreciation.
[break][break]Kaylie gets distracted for a moment when he asks what was that, making her almost ask it back. What was what? Oh wait, was it what she had said a while ago... she keeps her mouth shut and shakes her head, eyes glued to the screen and trying to concentrate. "Nope. Nothing." These few words escape her mouth, until finally she is focused on the game once again, Griselda killing almost all the monsters in her side of the field. But they are hardly winning. More beasts are coming to attack.
[break][break]She then realizes that her health bar is almost done for, and she gulps; not too long after that realization, Tobi questions her once more about what would happen if they both were too lose simultaneously. She chuckles and winks at the young man, fingers still pressing against the keys. "Then both of us would just have to buy each other something, then~" She coos in reply, turning back to her screen and pressing the inventory key as quick as she could.
[break][break]Griselda is equipped with only two health potions, both of which do not guarantee her and Axel's survival. But then, it was worth a shot. With a few presses of the keys, she manages to get Griselda to give on to Tobi's character. "Here, drink this quickly," She tells the young man, almost as if she is speaking as Griselda. "although I can't promise you it will help us survive longer, though."
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]Hhhh these two are just-- so lovely <3
he continued to randomly push the buttons that were helping his character defend himself. without looking away he had thought she had said something and when he had asked she had replied with a no. he chuckled softly."alrighty i think i was totally in the zone."he said talking about the game and he had been focused. though not that much as his health wasn't the greatest.
"that sounds like a good idea."he told her with a smile. turning his attention back to the game. kaylie had noticed both sel and axel were not doing so great with their health. he laughed, but his character was healed with the potion was given to him."didn't you want me to lose? thanks though."he said with a smile."that's fine, it just means we should probably go get something to eat. i don't know about you, but all this fighting has made me hungry."he said with a chuckle. not that he was actually doing much work. it was axel that was doing all the fighting. he was sure if axel had been real he would more than likely be starving by now.
Tobi concludes he went out of the zone as a means to tell her he was probably hearing some things. Kaylie smiles, though doesn't comment. She wants to tell him he did hear something, but the game is their main focus right now. So she doesn't speak about it, instead proceeding to continue the game without any more delays.
[break][break]Kaylie doesn't look out of the screen anymore, concentrated entirely on Griselda and her actions. She makes her give a health potion to her partner, Axel, before she continues the fight. She was going to die soon, however. The young woman chuckles softly at Tobi's statements, and she finds herself feeling the same. "Yeah, I'm kinda hungry myself, but... the game's already too addicting to look away from now." She chuckles again; she manages to still defend herself while talking.
[break][break]But, just as she had predicted, one final hit from a monster and Griselda collapses, and Kaylie is left staring at a "game over" sign glowing red, with a voice announcing her defeat to accompany it. She leans back on her chair, heaving a deep sigh, before she turns to Tobi's screen. Axel may still be holding out on his own... the young woman turns to Tobi's screen and suddenly pumps her fists in the air.
[break][break]"Go, Tobi! Go Axel, you can do this!" She cheers, even though she knows there is no more hope for the character to survive any longer. More monsters are flocking around him, and Kaylie suddenly questions why a ray of hope for Tobi's character still remains. Maybe it was something to make him feel better? She continues doing this with a large grin on her face. "Go, go, go! Kick their asses!"
