Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2022
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
a small yawn escaped his lips. it wasn't that he was sleepy, alright it was, but that was only because he was running on four hours of sleep. he stayed up way too late watching movies with the kids. it was alright though. he had enjoyed the movies despite the fact they were ones he wouldn't typically watch.
when the festival was mentioned he was intrigued. it had been quiet sometime since he had gone to such an event. he figured going in the afternoon would be better. that way if zach was up to it he could come too. make it a family outing, that included desmond.
by the time they had arrived it was closer to five. everyone ended up splitting up and tobi found himself venturing into the unknown alone. that was fine with him. he could go as slow or as fast as he wanted. there was plenty to see.
Kaylie figured that one of the best ways to relax from work was to go outside and get yourself some fresh air.
[break][break]It was yet another tiring day in the library, arranging books on the shelves and attending to people who want to read books. Kaylie loved the work, really, but Saturday and Sunday shouldn't be going on like this. They shouldn't be working everyday of their lives; it isn't healthy for them. Even though Kaylie is pretty persistent at work and would not rest until the work is done, she also knows when she's finally reached her limits. Zoraya had thought the same, but Kaylie knows her too well; if there was a job, she needs to get it done.
[break][break]Kaylie had heard of a festival of lanterns somewhere in Calico Forest, so she opted to go there and relax. She'd told her friend about it, but all Zoraya would ever tell her was she needs to go to work. Zoraya let her go to the festival to relax, though, so after a few more words, Kaylie finally walked out of the library and headed for Calico Forest.
[break][break]The festival was beautiful; this was the first note she made about the festival once she arrived. People were everywhere, eating snacks and walking with their loved ones around the lit-up forest. I wish Zoraya was here to see all this... she thought, then looked at the different food stalls everywhere. Oh well. I'll bring something home for her.
[break][break]She walked around the festival, observing the lovely ornaments and the glowing lights around the area. The people seemed really nice, too. There were even familiar faces... though she wasn't really sure.
[break][break]Speaking of familiar faces... there was a white-haired guy just a few distances from her.
[break][break]Is that... Tobi?
[break][break]Kaylie made her way through the crowds, pushing forward until she was only inches away from him. Patting his shoulder, a large smiled made its way through her face. "Tobi! Didn't think I'd see you here!"
it hadn't been more than five minutes into the festival, that he had forgotten everyone had ditched him. that was fine with him, clearly he was already having fun. he had opted to look at the different stands the local vendors had put up. he had been looking at some neat knick knacks when he felt someone touching him.
he knew she must of lived in the area. after all she did work at the library. he just never thought they would meet outside of the library."kaylie..."his mind instantly went back to the time he ran into the door. how embarrassing.
"ah, sorry i thought you were one of the kids."he told her with a small laugh. clearly she didn't know who the kids were."yeah, i've never been. well obviously i mean. it's been a long time since i've been at a festival."he told her with a nod."what brings you here?"he asked with a smile.
Kaylie pouted when he commented that he thought she was one of the children. "Hmmph. You're mean." She whined childishly, crossing her arms. The white-haired woman ended up smiling anyway. "It's nice to see you here though, Tobi. I mean, I never expected it."
[break][break]She hummed in understanding when he told her he hadn't been in a festival for long. He then asked her why she was here. "Well, nothing really. Just walking around myself like you." She replied, looking around. "Indeed, festivals only arrive once in a year, so I tend to miss it because of work. Luckily I managed to swipe some time off my hands and spend it on getting to this place."
[break][break]Then she turned to Tobi with a mischievous glint on her eye. "Wanna play some games over there?" She asked, pointing to the direction of the game station. "Let's see if you can beat me."
tobi shook his head clearly flustered that she was upset."oh, no..i didn't mean it like that. i came with my family before they decided to split up..."he rambled. he sighed with relief after he caught her smile."it's nice to see you...not surrounded by books. it seems like that's the only place i can ever find you."he said turning away to hide the warmness in his cheeks. what was he saying. he wasn't exactly looking for her. after all she spent most of her time at work. finding here behind a stack of books was a easy feat.
"i try to get out as much as i can."he told her with a smile. he nodded at her words."well im glad you got the chance to be out here. everything looks amazing."he told her as he looked around at the different booths. there was so much to do, he wasn't exactly sure where to go. so far he's been slowly following the crowd."games? sure. haha, we shall see."he told her with a grin as he started walking towards the games."some games are about luck you know."he told her with a chuckle.
Kaylie simply hums in understanding and nods when Tobi contradicts her statement about walking along, claiming he had been with family before they split up and left him to loiter on his own. The young woman smiled. "Oh, is that so... huh, lucky you. I was going to bring the head librarian along with me." She rolled her eyes after remembering what Zoraya had said a while earlier. "But, you know, she always refuses, c!aiming there's so much work to do! 'I have to get this finished', 'oh but these books are not in their proper place'... ugh. Sometimes I just want to slap her and make her snap out of work." She said with a small giggle.
[break][break]He then states that it was nice to be seeing her outside of her books, and she laughs at this. "Haha, I know! It's probably only rare for me to get out like this often because of work, though." She said, then pouted playfully and swatted his arm. "Really, you just had to point it out."
[break][break]Walking along with him, she nods at his statements and smiles once he mentions her chance of being out here. "Yeah, I'm pretty happy to be out here, too. Can't stay in the library for too long." Then they turned to the topic about games, and she grinned back at him. "Haha, I'm ready. I hope you are~" She chuckled with a wink, shrugging her shoulders once he tells her some games are about luck. "Hmm, some pretty much. But it's nice to know you're playing a game without ever needing the help of Lady Luck."
[break][break]She then looked around the area, finding a few arcade and gaming stations a few walks away from the food stalls. "There are some arcades over there. We could play some games that would suit us." Grinning and taking his hand, she giggled and started running. "Come on! Hurry before other people take our spots!"
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]Aaaaa finally got a reply for this!!
tobi laughs softly and smiles as she considers him to be lucky."wait lucky i was ditched or lucky they had at least brought me along."he shook his head. he was teasing her. he listened to how she ended up here alone."it does sound like she needs a break. working to much isn't good for you. gotta give your mind a rest."he nods at her understanding how it is when you have a workaholic to take care of."my brother is a doctor. poor guy barely gets any sleep."he tells her."he needs to take a least two days off. one to sleep and the other to do everything he misses out on."he tells her honestly.
though he was glad they were all able to come out tonight for the festival. he grins at her reaction laughing along."i couldn't resist. im sure you have books hiding everywhere."she had wanted to go play games and he wasn't too far behind. they continued to chat as they walked to their destination."yes, you have to go out and get some fresh air. if it's not too windy out we should read outside sometime."he suggested.
he chuckles."as ready as i'll ever be. just don't rub it in my face too much when you okay?"they hadn't even started to play games and he was already relaxed and having fun."arcade games sound fun. run for it!"he jokes as he picks up his pace clearly not wanting their potential spots to be taken."which one?"he asks with a laugh. there were a couple of machines open.
Kaylie snorts at Tobias and smacks him in the arm once more. "I mean lucky as in they had at least brought you along... duh." She giggles after this. Then she nods and relates to how similar Zoraya and Tobi's brother were. "Zoraya and your brother are similar in some ways." She simply stated, then sighed and shook her head. "I mean, they care about work too much; at least that's how I view them right now. Can't they just take a break?"
[break][break]Then, turning back to the games, she smiles and continues dragging Tobi towards the arcade games. She nods in agreement once Tobi tells her to not rub it at him too much while she's at it. As they run, she smiles with determination as Tobi urges her to run for the games. "I'm totally running! I'm not letting those lowly people take our spots!" She exclaimed, giggling as she quickened her pace.
[break][break]Finally they have arrived at the arcade, and Kaylie spots two empty arcade boxes just standing beside each other. "There! Over there!" She yells, pointing them out to Tobi before walking up to the first arcade box. "So, what do you want to play?" She asks the young man, scrolling through the games in awe. "Looks like there's lots of games to pick from here. I bet your computer has the same games. Which one would you like?"
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]These two are too cute to even handle now XD <3
tobi simplys laughs."glad you cleared that up for me."he brush back a few loose strands of his hair as they continued talking."we should force them to take a vacation."he joked though it wouldn't be a bad idea. he was positive the kids would love the idea. if he could get desmond on it, then it would be four against one.
"again we would probably have to drag them away from their work."he said with a chuckle. of course their attention was soon onto the games. they weren't exactly racing each other, just trying to make sure one of them made it a machine first. it had been such a long time since he had played. he laughed at her words and picked up the pace.
he slowed down when she came to a stop. it seemed like lady luck was on their side. she had stopped two empty machines. it seemed like it was too good to be true."let's hope they work."he told her with a grin. he wasn't always a negative nancy. it was just the first thing that popped into his head. as they got closer tobi could see the flashing lights on both machines."what about a fighting game? haha, actually im not much of a video gamer."he told her with a chuckle."i, uh spent most of my time reading."
Kaylie finds herself nodding to Tobi's statements about dragging their busy-bodied relatives away from work, before time goes forward and they are already in the arcades. Tobi hopes that the computers would work, Kaylie patting and nodding to reassure him. "Don't worry about a thing, these will work." She states with a smile.
[break][break]The computers do work, and Kaylie nods in triumph. "Haha, see? Told ya they'd work." Tobi then suggests that they play a fighting game, and she nods at this with a smile. "Sure thing! Let's see who beats who, huh?" She coos with a teasing grin. Playing the game would be much easier than beating this guy, though. What if he did have some experience than she did--
[break][break]Her eyes widen slightly in surprise when he tells her he wasn't much of a gamer, as he spent his time reading books. The young woman sighs and shakes her head. "Eh, the feeling's mutual. I'm not a gamer either, but I did manage to play some games when I was young." She said, scrolling through the desktop to search for a game that they could play. "I read a lot, as you already know." Kaylie turns to Tobi with a soft smile. "I guess we've got a lot in common, eh, Tobi?"
[break][break]The cursor finally manages to point to something decent, and she tugs on Tobi's sleeve. "This! This game!" She exclaimed, clicking it with an excited look on her face. "I heard this game was a hit! We should totally try it!"
tobi nodded his head in acknowledgement. She was right if they weren't working he was positive the staff would of put up a sign of some sort. He stood back and watched her maneuver the machine. He smiled when she told him it was working just fine."you're brilliant."tobi said said with a grin
He chuckled at her surprised reaction."same. I kind of lost interest as i grew older."he nodded at her words "yeah it seems like we do."he said as he could start to feel his cheeks begin to feel warm again. He felt so silly blushing over every small thing. He chuckled once more. She was so cute when she was excited. He didn't realize he had been watching her until she tugged at his sleeve."it must be good if you're that excited about."he laughed before pulling up some chairs for them to sit on."loser gets to buy some cotton candy."he wagered as he grabbed his controller and tried to get himself familiar woth the controls.
He calls her brilliant after she reassures him that the computers will turn on, and they do turn on. Kaylie smiles and grins at him, almost playfully proud. "Haha, of course! No one messes with the brilliance of Kaylie Silas!" She exclaims and laughs almost haughtily, then realizes it was a big fail and blushes before turning away. It felt like she wasn't doing that right...
[break][break]She finds herself agreeing to him in terms of losing interest in games after growing older, but for Kaylie the truth is she had just stopped playing games after her parents had died and she ran away from home. No, Kaylie wouldn't want to bring that up anymore; she'd had a conversation with Tobi back at the library after all. At these statements, she simply nods and doesn't say anything more.
[break][break]"Sure thing! I could use a prize if I ever beat you~" She sticks her tongue out at him after agreeing to the deal, before finally she hears the game boot up. Grabbing her controller, she starts to test it like what Tobi is doing. "Hmm... let's see... oh! You choose your enemies name here!" She said, looking over to the names displayed. It doesn't seem like Tobi's name is there, though... "Hey, what's your player name here for now?"
he chuckles softly at her words. he was seeing a different side of her. then again he was sure she couldn't be this excited at the library. the noise level would more than likely have to be at a lower level."too cute."he find himself saying and while she turns away he simply smiles. it feels like this is the first time he wasn't the one turning away embarrassed.
he watches while she sets the game up. throwing in the idea of a prize and loser has to buy some treats. he smiles once more when she agrees to the idea. he watches her as she teaches him what to do. the game screen load and it seems right after hitting the start they have to choose a name for their characters. he ponders a name for a few seconds.
"im so bad at picking names. i'll go with something simple like..."he pauses as he brain goes through random names that pop into his head. matt or joe, or jason."uh...axel. that sounds cool right?"he asks with a laugh as he starts typing in the name."what did you pick?"he says as he moves closer, accidentally bumping her shoulder."oh, sorry."as he stops leaning over and sits up straight.
Kaylie could swear under her own breath that she heard Tobi say something when she avoids his gaze for a while. The white-haired woman blinks, quickly turning her head to him, a small pink blush on her face. "U-Uh... did you... say something?" She asked timidly, not really sure if it had just been her imagination and what Tobi would think about it.
[break][break]After a few seconds, she snorts and brushes it off with a dismissive shake of her head, waving a hand in the air. "N-Nevermind. It must've been just me hearing things." She said with a sheepish grin on her face. But I did hear him say something a while ago... must've been my imagination, perhaps...
[break][break]She laughs heartily and pats Tobi on the back while looking at the screen. "Oh, don't worry about that. I'm horrible at naming, myself." She snorts and wipes the protruding tears coming from her eyes. "Trust me, whatever your player's name is, mine's gonna be worse than that."
[break][break]Kaylie looks at the name he encoded and nods in approval. "Axel. Simple, yet fit for a hero." She comments with a wink, then turns to her screen. She's read too many books with Axel as the main character's name already, so it's easy for her to say that. "As for me, I'm gonna go with... wait for it..." She mutters, typing the name on the white line while thousands of others race through her head. There must be other better names than this, she just has to think closely...
[break][break]...The young woman turns to Tobi with an embarrassed red face, pointing to the screen. "...See. This is what I'm telling you." She hits the screen with the tip of her finger repeatedly, seemingly detesting the name yet has no motivation to change it. "Griselda. The name of an old woman. Holy Akari."
[attr="class","boxo-notes"]PFFF Kaylie wants to make sure XDXD
he was taken aback. she hadn't heard him? he started to get nervous. it had just slipped out without a second thought. though he wasn't going to deny the fact that she was cute, quirky and really funny. she surely kept him on his toes. he shook his head a bit to quickly. he wasn't sure if he was ready to repeat his words. he'd be so red by the end of it.
the last thing he wanted to do was scare her off. they've only just met. what was he thinking."uhh cute...your character i mean...not to say that you're not cute..."what did he just do. he had been so completely thrown off he just messed himself up by rambling even more.
he wasn't sure how she was going to react to that comment or how he was going to save the situation if things got really awkward. he could already feel the awkward silence coming."anyway..."he said with a cough as he cleared his throat. what were they just talking about? oh right character names."really? you think so."he asked with a nervous laugh. he was still trying to play it cool.
he chuckled softly once she had picked a name."well, it's certainly not a name one will forget."
