Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
[attr="class","springagaintext"] Eased by the presence of the other blonde, Liana discovered herself pleasantly relaxed. Additionally, the stranger made excellent coffee, her understanding nature to her mood being a remarkable bonus. Rather than the consistent rush of work swirling around her, Liana could bear a moment of well-needed bliss. She was not foreign to the efforts required of the TRS, however, she was aware instances of hustle and rush were commonplace. Lives were hanging from thin lines and the valiant efforts of medics, field or ward, was keeping the strings together for a full recovery.
[break][break]
A small nod of acknowledgement was provided as the woman mentioned no longer being ward. The mug with coffee was placed back onto the break table, Liana allowing the warmth to tickle her fingers. Her fellow medic spoke about retreating from the field operations because of her disdain towards carried-out actions. The young nymph could comprehend her vexes about fieldwork entirely. Witnessing the inciting of traumas and actions of foolishness or naivety was difficult to stomach at times, especially when it led to an untimely demise. Yet, despite those actions, Liana remained steadfast in her position, appreciating the hard work and opportunities that arrived with it.
[break][break]
“I can understand that. For me, it’s mostly the desperation that disparages me at times. Knowing that sometimes, despite my efforts and fervour for assisting the injured, people will pass,” sorrow danced with her words, smooth and familiar from days of feigned contentment. “I can see why you prefer the ward. While I’m certain you experience your own emergencies, there can be a profound difference in witnessing the actions that bring about those consequences to only the wounds.”
[break][break]
A gentle sigh breezed through the blonde’s parted lips. In order to ease her own tension, she acquired another sip of the coffee generously provided by her coworker. Once the mug gently clicked against the table, her brilliant blue hues returned to her.
[break][break]
“Wishful thinking, but I hope someday soon the fight between AP and TRS, in a positive way that is. Having to always be on guard can be quite tiring.
[break][break]
Her words maintained their soft cadence as she spoke. While the resolution of the war meant plenty of changes, she longed for the moment she could escape to the refuge of the woods without worry. For the instances where she can play among the wildlife, free of soul and body as air danced around her. The offering of a name brought a small grin to her face, freeing her from her thoughts.
[break][break]
“A pleasure to meet you, Haley,” she began, offering her hand. “I’m Liana Martin.”
[break][break]
Her soft-spoken words toned down, the significant formalities taught by her step-father and mother forgotten within the safety of the TRS staff room. Here, she was never required to add the baggage of ‘stepdaughter of nobleman’ or anything else outrageously wordy. A simple greeting was something she admired over time, even if her verbal diction required a slight flourish in her word choice.
[attr="class","springagaintext"] The weariness leaking into Liana's bones kept her limited in motion. A yawn echoed through her gaped mouth as the air nymph leaned onto the table. Her arms rested atop the table after her adjustment in position, however, instinct kept her elbows from colliding with the surface. After living in the accursed house of noble fantasies, the nymph gained the automatic actions to avoid falling into uncouth behaviours. Despite her adoration for the simplicity of their previous life, Liana lived under the roof of expectations.
[break][break]
She blinked heavily as she awaited the bitter sustenance of warm, caffeinated liquid. The grin favoured Liana went entirely unnoticed as the blonde nymph rolled her shoulders. After a meagre few minutes of resting, it appeared her body clung to the concept of napping away one's problems. Alas, there would be time after work to flop onto her bed and allow herself some well-deserved rest. A pale green ceramic mug entered Liana's gaze alongside a tall container of creamer and a plastic pin container with plenty of sugar and Splenda packets.
[break][break]
A smile ferried onto Liana's lips as she reached for the hazelnut creamer. A quick tip poured the white-coloured liquid in, removing the darkness from the coffee. Only moments later would it be followed by a packet of sugar. The gentle noise of sugar leaving its papery package playing pleasant cords across the nymph's ears. A contented sigh breezed through the blonde nymph's lips as she plucked a brown stir stick to miss the contents.
[break][break]
"I think I genuinely needed this," she murmured with a soft grin. "Thank you."
[break][break]
Following the stir, Liana's fingers, despite the callous, daintily brought the cup to her lips. A small sip was taken of the contents, the heat of the liquid bringing her wakefulness. Happily, the nymph hummed as the cup returned to the table with a soft clink. As she picked up the woman's question, her eyes returned to the green-eyed woman. The simple question sparked no ill-will, rather, it was quite simple. Furthermore, the stranger's uniform spoke her division as the same.
[break][break]
"Yes, I'm field," she answered, favouring her with a reserved grin. "I'm with unit 1. Are you also a part of the field?"
[break][break]
Reciprocating the question felt natural given their similar divisions. Discussing matters with other medics was oftentimes a pleasant experience, except for the gossipy few who wished to gawk at medical mishaps. Those few easily grated on Liana's nerves and left her tongue-held and annoyed. She could hardly count the incidents where she wished to snap or return their sour temper in hopes they would cease their foolish jabbering.
[attr="class","springagaintext"] Exhaustion dragged in Liana's bones as she leaned into the backrest. The subtle cushioning of the backrest was a welcoming embrace for her shoulders. A gentle 'mmm' escaped her pink lips, her eyes accomplishing weary blinks as she rested herself for a moment. The easement was exactly what she required to destress from the tense nature of healing on the battlefield. A smile ferried onto the blonde's lips as she relaxed for a few moments. A long exhale left her lips, the young air nymph getting thoroughly enthralled in her relaxation.
[break][break]
Unfortunately, the public nature of the break room meant tranquility would inevitably be disturbed. The gentle squeak of the door resulted in Liana stiffening in reaction. Immediately, her eyes flitted over to the threshold, revealing another woman strolling into the break room. The woman's brilliant blue hues observed her fellow medic briefly before gazing down at the table. The pair were not locked in conversation, therefore, to avoid rudeness, Liana wanted to avoid extended periods of staring.
[break][break]
The offer of coffee perked Liana's attention, her blue eyes returning to the other blonde. She provided the fellow woman with a gentle smile. The offer of the warm beverage sparked a craving for the taste of coffee across her tonque.
[break][break]
"That would be great. I think my weary bones need it," the nymph responded softly.
[break][break]
The notion of a warm cup of coffee was a pleasant comfort. Soft sips of the caffeinated beverage with a hint of hazelnut coffee creamer summoned a smile across Liana's lips. Finally, would she receive the opportunity to discover easement after her overwhelming occupation.
[attr="class","springagaintext"] Summer's time prompted the seemingly endless scuttling of TRS work. Similar to cogs operating inside a machine, everybody flowed about their jobs, accomplishing missions and assuring the safety of people and Lorsette as a whole. The young field medic worked through the hours of the days, determined to rescue those around her. The fragile existence of life was expected to be restored by her dirtying hands. Every twinning bandage covering the blooded wounds manifested by malicious terrors and violent Assembly soldiers.
[break][break]
Field medics fixated on the notion of assuring the lives of those around them. While missions went wayside and people would inevitably be greeted with Thanatos' cold grasp around their weakening heart. The darkness of her thoughts prompted a sigh between Liana's light pink lips, her eyes briefly closing. Thoughts of death always left the young woman empty-stomached and sorrowed by the burdens of her history. Inside the darkness of death arrived memories of her precious father, the man she wished remained steadily by her side.
[break][break]
The young blonde required her guidance, yet, since the transition from her youth, she was suffocated by expectations. The step-daughter of a nobleman, tamed by the world of refinery and taught the wonders of a wealthy daughter's life. Yet, she cared naught for the persistent funds for everything she wished for was captivated in nature. The chances of dirty one's knees, running through ankle-height streams and feel the incredible sensations of bare feet against cooling grass. Alas, the closest she received was the rough nature of a field medic's perils.
[break][break]
The screams of the injured, coppery scents of blood and the intense nature of the world around her. A chance to calm and breathe was nonexistent, rather, she was rushed and forced to quicken her hands to assist the next wounded individual. The young nymph blinked slowly, her steps carrying her through the medical ward. After the harshness of a mission, Liana was provided with the opportunity to rest before continuing forth. A soft hum escaped the woman's lips as she walked through the familiar hallways for the small, medical ward break room.
[break][break]
The field medic appeared dishevelled from her missions. Her blonde and blue locks of curled hair were tangled together, her fingernails possessed small chips and scrapes and her entire uniform was a dust-covered mess. The young woman walked slow, fingers reaching to unbutton and unzip her uniform jacket to reveal the simple, white short-sleeved beneath. Her steps carried her on, each bringing her closer to her destination. Once freed from the jacket, Liana laid it over her arms, taking a break from the uniform's restraints.
[break][break]
A doorway arrived in the view of her crystalline blue eyes. The remembered threshold to cross into the location of deep breaths and calmness. Her steps picked up, a hand moving to push aside the doorway and enter the presently empty break room. Slowly, the young woman walked towards the chair, hanging her jacket across the back before sitting down to allow her a moment of tranquility. [break][break]
Gifted with an average height of 5’5”, Liana manages a graceful body. With longer than average limbs of a slender disposition, she is quite a beauty. Her limbs hold a similar, slender grace to that of a dancer’s. She is flat-stomached with pleasant slenderness that does not compromise the infamous hourglass figure known of females. Her breasts are well-sized, cementing the graceful, hourglass figure while giving her a downplayed version of the impossible to achieve “magazine beauty”. Due to spending plenty of time outdoors, Liana has a fair complexion with pink undertones. Her complexion lacks any blemishes and has been well taken care of since her mother remarried for money.
A well-structured face sits atop his neck. High cheekbones are stationed below her eyes, manifesting slender cheeks leading down to a slim jawline. Her chin is pointed with a soft curve, making it not overly prominent. Her lips are thin with a soft, natural pink colour that does frequently gets enhanced by lipstick or lip balm. Crystalline blue eyes sparkle in the middle of her face. They glisten in the light, a deep look revealing windy plains with a magnificent, bright blue sky with migrating clouds. Blonde locks of hair cropped short flow from her head in well-tamed waves and two curled strands framing her face. It is noticed the locks captured closer to her head maintain a soft, sky blue colour.
As per her newest position as the stepdaughter of a wealthy man, Liana has expectations when it comes to dressing. She keeps herself prim and proper with high-quality clothes and respectable jewelry. She often wears earrings and necklaces to enhance her appearance in subtle ways. The only time she can escape the suffocation of her clothing expectation is when she is working. During work hours, she wears an unaltered TRS uniform with green accents and dark colours.
Air Manipulation -- Advanced The ability to move and control air, allowing the user to create strong gusts of wind. She can create large gusts of winds or cut others with thin, gusts of wind. Regularly, she uses her air manipulation to push away others to avoid enemies injuring her or her patient more. Thus, her air manipulation is mainly used for defensive purposes. In moments of intense circumstances, she will make air shields with violently gusting winds while she works on patients. She will additionally kick up dust in order to blind others. Each time she uses her air manipulation, it will use up her energy. The more complex or larger the air manipulating stunts, the more energy she risks losing.
Flight -- Mastered The ability to soar through the air without the use of wings. Due to this ability, Liana is capable of floating through the air. Smoothly, she can levitate or fly further without the unfurrowing of wings, allowing Liana to avoid attacks or travel faster. Since she lacks wings, methods to ground her are limited but do consist of severe wounding and forcing her to use more of her energy. When her energy starts waning, Liana will fall to the ground. Similarly, situations of harsh storms can result in crashes to the ground. She is completely unable to fly when she is exhausted.
Enhanced Flight Speed -- Advanced The ability to fly faster than that of an average individual. When in flight, Liana is capable of speeding herself up, allowing her to reach intense speeds. She can only do this when she is in flight, otherwise, the enhancement will fail. She can swiftly dart between buildings and dip down low before rising high. This being said, when sped up, while her reaction times only enhance slightly. This means she can crash into objects in her way or be thrown off by momentum if not careful.
Wards -- Beginner The ability to manifest wards to keep certain species away or negative thoughts. Impart from the connotations of keeping various species away, Liana became hesitant to the ability. With no effective methods of field usage, she decided to not use the ability. Rather, she avoids it entirely. Using it will cause effects of exhaustion and make weak, non-permanent nor long-term wards.
Charms -- Advanced The ability to create charms, allowing the user to give others good luck or various other minor assists. For the TRS’s sake, Liana has learned about charms. She regularly creates her charms for the sake of temperature regulation. Otherwise, Liana will make preservation-based charms meant to maintain hair dye colours or other vanity needs. She normally sells these in the form of bracelets that are fairly low in cost. Friends occasionally get these charmed bracelets for free. Extensive use of her charm making will gradually exhaust Liana. This can lead her to require rest.
backstory
My father was a great man... and I wish he could hold me again…
Born deep within the wilderness of Lorsette, Liana lived a secluded life amidst nature. Between the growing underbrush and waving trees was the life, Liana grew familiar with. The faces of her parents became the only recognized people in her life. David and Katria Martin played the roles of parents for the young “wild child” known as Liana. Though, her father proved to become the one pedestalled inside the blonde child’s mind. She was a daddy’s girl, unable to get indoctrinated into the realm of shopping and makeup, Liana was a disappointment to her mother. She was a tomboy and at a young age, those qualities endlessly shined through her. She wanted to roll through the dirt, run through the water and climb trees to their tallest point. Her father, being a man of nature, spurred those wishes on with every word and fibre of his being; she was his little girl.
Despite the ebullient happiness in the Martin family, they were a family riddled with financial burdens. An unknown burden was hidden from their child that resulted in a silent dislike of her father from Liana’s mother. She was a woman born in the concrete jungle and endowed with the minor luxuries of life. The free-spirited nature of David had attracted Katria. The beliefs of him being changeable lurking inside her mind without an ounce of hesitation upon the beginnings of their relationship. At times, people believed she never craved the opportunity to start a family and make one another’s lives better. Rather, people believed she merely wanted a live-action play toy. It was noticeable at an early age how much her mother despised dirt and hard work as grumbles became her constant symphony. There were many instances where she and her father were lectured about dragging in dirt or making a mess. It was a constant.
The closeness Liana possessed to her father was seemingly endless. As a young adolescent, she remembered how they would hunt and fish together, gather herbs and accomplish other nature-based activities. Together, they discovered well-needed happiness and David revelled in the opportunity to be a father. Their connection was powerful, a father-daughter relationship many craved the opportunity to have. In her childhood, Liana was regarded as a happy-go-lucky child as she sprinted through the wildlife with the broadest smile. The family recalled her joyous giggles as she played games with her father and became one with the wilderness. Always, Liana was happiest among nature. The manner she watched birds and even fish swim through the river. It all caused Liana’s greatest happiness and allowed him to smile widely at the world around her. Everything was absolutely perfect.
Though the perfect dream transitioned to a nightmare with frightening haste. During the afternoon, Liana’s father went on a hunt alone to gather them food. She remembered watching him leave home, her blue eyes glued to the window as he walked down the familiar path. As always, she gave him a final wave goodbye and he smiled and returned it. Throughout the day, she spent it alongside her mother, a young adolescent assisting with chores. Every so often her eyes gazed out the window, waiting to see her father return down the old dirt path. Yet, as time transitioned, sightings of her father became limited and worry began infecting her. While her mother, acting flippant because of the displeasure in her marriage, Liana worried. Unfortunately, for the young girl, the TRS would arrive to deliver horrific news. While hunting, her father was attacked and killed by a terror.
She remembered the shaking in her core and the trembling of her hands as tears surfaced. The evening where she cried through and roused upset and tired with the world’s unfoldings. She wanted her father, and her mother, she was devoid of providing comfort. Rather, she considered an opportunity for freedom rather than a time to mourn the man she married. In Liana’s mourning, things shifted frightfully and gave her little time adjusting to the latest set of circumstances. Her mother began introducing her to a new man quickly, somebody richer and with higher expectations. Thus, in her most vulnerable times, she discovered expectations and limited time to heal from her father’s death. The funeral was lazily done and within days, Liana was shoved into a large manor owned by her mother’s new boyfriend. From there, things only became worse. Expectations were pressured onto the young girl as she was dressed up in gorgeous high-expense clothing with her hair and makeup done. She was told she was forbidden from rolling in the dirt and doing the things she valued with her father. Furthermore, she was sent to a strict private school.
Discontented with her life, Liana found herself unable to smile as much as she used to. Forced to be a “pretty girl”, she only spiralled into a deep upset. As she grew older, those emotions had a numbing effect on her as she succeeded in school, sad and alone. It was not until she turned 18 had Liana realized a method to uphold her father’s death. Resolve allowed her to defy her mother in one choice, which was signing up to the TRS. She entered the field medic portion of the medical division as an apprentice. From there, she was trained extensively, pushing her body further and further to better herself. She was determined to assist the TRS, her hopes being geared to helping others to avoid tragedy. Upon her graduation, Liana felt a sense of pride and a tiny shard of happiness over her success. Though her discontentment haunted her, the TRS became her only opportunity for freedom. Thus, she always appreciated the organization for being her “home” in the darkest times.
