Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
I agree! Plus everybody handles a personality differently, so it gives people the chance to meet the cat beforehand and know who their ideal fit it! c:
Plus with all the cats, your cafe is easily my favourite. XD
Awwww, they are little sweeties! I should bring Cinnamon to visit sometime. ^-^ I will have to do it when she is in a good mood.
Celaena! It would be hard for me NOT to pick you again!!!
Cinnamon is such a wonderful cat and being able to interact with the cats before adopting is really helpful! You have a good thing going on there, especially with most the cats being taken in.
At a short height of 5’6 and an overall skinny body weight, Ari does not have an immense presence. His limbs are willowy, having somewhat of a grace to their composure. However, muscles are nonexistent on Ari’s body because of his skinny body make-up. Easily overpowered, Ari’s general slender build displays itself in situations requiring strength as well. From his hands are long, thin fingers with a subtle bonniness to their shape. His nails are well-mained, being clipped than later filed to avoid accidental damages to his skin. Due to plenty of time spent inside, Ari’s complexion is extremely pale. This is partially because of his illness increasing the chances of fungal infections.
In spite of the questionable attraction of his body, Ari proves to have an attractive facial structure. High cheekbones settle reasonably beneath his eyes, shaping his face as slender. Cheeks lead down to a jawline capable of warding a double chin and holding a soft, pleasant point. The young man’s ears have piercings, these being around his helix and a stud on his lobe. From Ari’s head comes long, soft locks of peanut-coloured brown hair reaching narrowly past his shoulders. A majority of his hair is frequently bound into a ponytail. The bangs are semi-long and frequently side brushed with the left side having a bundle of hair longer than his bangs. Peeking from the strands of hair are a pair of blue eyes, semi-dulled, but still pretty. When in public areas, Ari covers his nose and mouth with a fabric mask because of how easily he gets sick.
The clothing chosen by Ari is often fabrics capable of covering his body. Turtleneck sweaters and long-sleeved shirts are evident preferences. T-shirts and tank tops only worn in situations where the house is overly warm. His ears are decorated with piercings, his right tending to bear more than the other because it is oftentimes revealed more often. Oversized sweaters bring a special warmth and happiness to Ari, therefore, he wears them frequently and discovers comfort in it. He enjoys jewelry, oftentimes wearing necklaces and bracelets he enjoys. Sometimes, Ari will wear varying rings, but never anything considerably gaudy. He enjoys wearing special ponytails with little charms on them to bind his hair. Notably, Ari does wear reading glasses, these glasses have slender rectangular lenses with thin, black wirely frames.
As a hellhound, Ari is capable of shifting into an animal form. This is specifically a black wolf with dark brown patches. His eyes maintain their blue colour, although his wolf form is more slender than an average wolf. When in human form, Ari can display ears and a tail, these features taking on a slightly lighter fur colour to match his hair colour in human form.
Fire Manipulation -- Advanced The ability to move and create fire, allowing the user to manipulate. Never used for the purpose of combat and defense, Ari uses his fire manipulation for warmth, drying off and as a substitute for lighters. Otherwise, many would discover Ari incapable. As somebody not trained for combat, at most in these situations he may accomplish a quick, sudden lashing of fire. Regularly, Ari creates small and maintained flames, rarely going behind that unless absolutely necessary. His control is best with smaller flames, the fire tickling across his skin to warm himself or sometimes dry in minimal situations. There are instances where Ari will use his flame manipulation to cook food for himself. When soaked or during rainy weather, Ari’s capabilities become more minimal because of the dampness.
Hexes -- Beginner The ability to access magic with the use of chalk or blood circles. Due to his circumstances, Ari notices limited use with hexes, therefore, he does not use them. Healing hexes would have uses for him being sick, however, the concept of drawing a circle of blood disturbs the young hellhound. Therefore, Ari decided to avoid hexes because of his preferences and lack of use. Should he attempt, Ari would be able to accomplish limited things and would tire quickly.
Hellhound Shifting -- Beginner The ability to shift into the form of a black wolf with dark brown patches. The illness inflicted onto Ari keeps him from using his hellhound shift. He worries about running outside and receiving possible infections from direct exposure. This does, however, result in dreams having a profound effect on Ari. If he dreams of being a wolf, his ear and tail will spawn without his control. It would take him 40 seconds to shift fully and in this time he would be vulnerable to attack.
Enhanced Speed -- Beginner The ability to access speed beyond the average individual. Only accessible in hellhound form, therefore causing Ari to be unable to use it. Should he try, he would have no control and tire quick.
Enhanced Strength -- Beginner The ability to access strength beyond the average individual. Only accessible in hellhound form, therefore causing Ari to be unable to use it. Should he try, he would have no control and tire quick.
Naturals: Immortality, Fire Immunity, Enhanced Senses.
backstory
I was always a weak child…
Born in the cold of a September afternoon, young Ari Zingel was the child of Terrance and Charlene Zingel. Considered a smaller baby who was notably weak, his parents maintained a soft worry, however, additionally believed their child would gain strength. Kept overnight with a quick slew of tests, as per the typical. Initially, Terrance and Charlene believed their child would be fine and ultimately, the tests returned without hindrance. While they placed their time into gaining assurances, Ari was stated as healthy and it was confirmed he would leave the hospital for home. In the beginning, the child, while seemingly tired, never exhibited signs of the looming darkness coming to take its grasp. They believed their child would grow up healthy and strong, but the inevitability of a biological transition would lead to a life filled with struggles. An illness passing tragically through DNA, a malicious threat unable to be subdued. Unseen... and something one cannot protect their child from.
Never would they know until days after Ari’s fourth birthday. A single year remained before their child would be heading off to kindergarten and as parents, they wished to divulge precious time into their only child. An outside picnic on a fall day featured plenty of new things which excited the young Ari Zingel. He remembered kicking through the leaves, laughing loudly as he enjoyed nature. This brought his parents joy after days of Ari abruptly falling ill. Their child was happy, running about nature while chanting “Watch me! Watch me!”. As any parents would inevitably, they fancied the opportunity of witnessing the happiness captured in their child. They wanted him to grow up happy and healthy with smiles brighter than the sun and a laugh capable of warming the hearts of others. Though, little did they know how heavily things would alter after an autumn’s day of play.
Within days, Ari began exhibiting a peculiar set of symptoms. A night where he woke from a rash, complaining of irritation and itching. Redness covered his body, the skin scaly when submitted to the tactile senses. Across his hands and feet were strange fungal infections. His face even being infected with the strange affliction of the infection. His parents never once witnessed anything similar to these peculiar signs. The abrupt exhibiting of sickness prompted them to take their child to the hospital the following morning. It led to Ari discovering himself in front of the family doctor, confusion on their face as they worked away. They accomplished many tests, asked his parents questions about their recent doings... everything came back to their autumn day. The doctor, smart and suspicious, began gathering things required for a test while prescribing medication. Though soon a new set of complicated words would become as familiar as night and day would enter Ari’s life.
Nitroblue Tetrazolium Test. Three words placed together that were beyond Ari’s mind and similarly his parents. The doctor broke it down slowly to them, mentioning it as a type of blood test performed on the young Ari Zingel. The words confused the young child as their doctor explained the misfortune to befall young Ari. Though, a single set of words rung in the young child’s head. Based on the tests, we believe Ari has Granulomatous Disease. He remembered looking between the doctor and his parents, mouth spouting out questions from confusion. He wanted to know what it meant, what it was, what would happen and everything in between. Over the course of the visit, the child grew upset while trying to understand everything happening to him. The warmth of his mothers arm and her quiet soothing to her crying child. It was always a possibility, one that haunted her. A disease inherited from the misfortunes of biological relation and something that affected his grandmother. Inevitably, things would change drastically.
Protective measures were taken, hospitals becoming a regular scene alongside the horrors of needles. Diagnosed with Chronic Granulomatous Disease meant the child was immunocompromised to a degree. Bacterial and fungal infections were a horror show to young Ari Zingel as sickness infected him easily and rued his days. When sick, it would hit the young child hard. Furthermore, inevitably Ari would be forced into circumstances of being barred from contact, his parents attempting their best to protect their child. Though, with everything that happened, Ari became aware quickly of the devastation of a disease he could not pronounce inevitably caused. The outside world was barred unless he was shrouded in clothing to protect his sensitive body. It resulted in Ari becoming a reserved child, a far cry from the energetic, rambunctious kid of his youth. Contained inside and plagued with easy sickness, Ari quickly transformed into a quieter child.
Though, around the corner would be the horror show known as school. The stress captured in his parents’ countenances days prior to the start was something detected by Ari. The view made the young child anxious, however, when the time arrived he was shipped off to kindergarten. The teachers were told about Ari’s condition, how sickness infected him easier than other students. In the time he attended, he remembered his teacher preaching the requirement to wash hands and keep things tidy. It was for his sake, though, Ari would be lying if he did not receive a subtle fear of germs. Arrangements were always needed for the autumn months, Ari being locked away inside to avoid becoming the victim of fungal infections. While school was difficult given his disease, his parents always assured preparations were made should Ari be required to stay home. The days where he stayed home, his parents attempted to keep their child motivated, but there were always days where he felt too sick to work.
The disease plaguing the young boy resulted in Ari having an uphill battle with school. It seemed frequently he would be out of school with sickness, his disease leaving him timid to others. Maintaining his education proved difficult with his grades barely reaching average because of his time outside of school. It left Ari frightened when he saw the disappointment in his parents eyes... and at times he asked to be taken out of school. He became scared of it, the germs, the illnesses, the poor grades and the people around him... He wanted out, craved the freedom from the desks and constant worrying. His parents desired to assist Ari with weeding out the shyness suffocating their son. However, the risk factors only seemed to increase as Ari became older and more anxious about school. He began hiding in his room, begging to be allowed to stay home instead of going to school... and ultimately everything boiled over. One morning their child began crying, expressing his worries and clinging to his parents... and the change came.
Originally, their desires were to maintain their child’s social health, however, with education and sickness risk factors, they altered their plan. At approximately grade 6, Ari began being homeschooled by his parents. The change eased their child and gradually, he began learning in an improved environment. There was comfort in staying at home, the opportunity prompting Ari to learn self-proficiency while slowly adjusting to the notions of socializing without the intense stress. Gradually, Ari began growing, his education improving and shortly, his parents altered his education to online schooling where he excelled. In his spare time, Ari would take additional classes to test the waters, one being a computers class. The wondrous class taught Ari about the future he would wish for himself. Skills in video editing and web design left him invested and beyond happy with his circumstance. Thus through similar means, Ari would enter post-secondary for web design while learning video editing on the side.
As he worked towards his post-secondary education, Ari stumbled across the opportunity to put his video editing skills to use in the form of Lana, a MineCraft role-play YouTuber. Once successfully receiving the job, Ari would edit her videos while working towards his education. In the end, he maintained his job with Lana and used web design as a side job for extra income. Ultimately, Ari was capable of moving into a small home by the age of 20 after some hard work where he has remained since while adjusting to the social climates of grocery stores and required outings.

Chronic Granulomatous Disease: An inherited disease Ari was diagnosed with in his youth. The disease is caused by his phagocyte white blood cells do not function properly against infections. This makes his phagocyte unable to fight off bacterial or fungal infections. The disease can cause the infection of lungs, skin, lymph nodes, liver, stomach and intestines along with other areas. Clusters of white blood cells may develop in this area. If exposed to dead leaves, mulch or hay, Ari does risk developing a serious fungal phenomena.
Other symptoms caused through infection are: fever, chest pain when inhaling or exhaling, swollen or sore lymph nodes, a persistent runny nose, skin irritation, swelling or redness of the mouth, gastrointestinal problems (vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain).
