Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

At an unmenacing height of 5’4”, Marx is nothing people gaze upon with intimidation. As a small, wylderkin with the appearance of an anthropomorphic Siamese cat. Due to his domesticated cat genes, Marx is built small with little to no muscle and a body designed to be slender and flexible as opposed to lithe muscular. This being said, Marx is flat-bellied and slender, he merely lacks proper muscle. The entirety of Marx’s body is covered in a coat of short hair that is soft to the touch and tickles the fingers of many. Due to being a Siamese cat, Marx’s fur is a light beige colour with his paws and tail tip having a dark brown colouring. Since he is anthropomorphic, Marx does have operational “hands” that have somewhat of a paw-like shape.
As a wylderborne type wylderkin, Marx’s facial structure is built similar to the animal his form is. His cheekbones lay at an average height on his face, making for soft, well-rounded facial features on Marx. He has a slender jawline, strong enough to ward away a double chin. His jawline goes out into a small muzzle with a tiny, black, triangular nose. Captured in his mouth is a sandpaper textured tongue. From his muzzle sprouts, long whiskers designed to allow touch and allow for some sensory capabilities. Flowing out from his muzzle is a dark brown colour for his fur that fades out around his forehead and cheeks. Peering from the dark patch of fur are a pair of gorgeous, bright blue eyes. Atop his head is a pair of dark brown ears that twitch and shows his emotion.
Clothing wise, Marx oftentimes wears what is made by his clan. Those who make clothes getting the fabrics and sewing them themselves. This being said, Marx holds an evident preference for casual clothing with practical fittings. He hates clothing that is too tight, though, in situations where he is lounging, he does consider oversized sweaters for extra comfort. He is not a fan of shoes and will take them off as soon as he can.
Rituals -- Mastered The ability to complete rituals with the usage of chants, formings, workings, dances and culmination. An apprentice shaman for a time, Marx learned the delicate inner workings of rituals and the abilities they have. Depending on the type of magic, the less Marx may need to put into the ritual. Thus, his abilities are widely known for creating small campfires and drying clothing. Similarly, he can create charms and talismans, allowing him to make charms capable of temperature resilience or talismans to help people resist mind control or help give luck for hunts. Though most notable for his shaman abilities are community rituals able to increase soil quality, crop production, health and fertility. The health and fertility depending on the casted area can also affect animals in the area. At times, this can operate similar to alchemy if focused enough on. However, the ability requires an understanding of the functions, including the chants, formings, workings, dances and culmination. Similarly, Marx requires an understanding of symbolism for culmination with the workings operating on a karmic value scale. He also needs the proper ingredients, including charms and a totem for the sake of magic’s flow. Dances and chants are the additions to these, the chants channelling the magics of other ritual enters and the dances directing the magic. Due to being the ritual master on most occasions, Marx does feel a drain of magic after these. Furthermore, he is unskilled with dark magic and cannot use rituals in combat situations.
Enhanced Speed -- Advanced The ability to enhance one’s speed, allowing the user to be faster than most. The expectations to perform dances for rituals has always led Marx to sharpen his enhanced speed skills. The ability is used to create quick moves where required to increase his skill and capability. While primarily used for his rituals, Marx is capable of running at high speeds. Regularly, this is used in incidents where he is in hurry to catch up to others or return homes. This being said, instances, where Marx does not slow down in time, can happen and result in momentum throwing him off. Furthermore, extensive use tends to tire or sore his muscles. Due to lack of training in the field, Marx would struggle to use his enhanced speed in combat scenarios.
Airflow Detection -- Natural The ability to detect changes in airflow. This ability was given to Marx because of the whiskers attached to his muzzle. His whiskers can notice changes in airflow, allowing him to know the direction of even mild breezes of the air around him. This can include air conditioners, vents and fans.
Vibration Detection -- Natural The ability to detect vibrations, even if acute. Another ability granted to Marx because of the existence of his whiskers. When his whiskers press up against a surface, Marx is able to detect vibrations. This includes even more minimal “vibrations” such as heartbeats. This ability only works when Marx’s whiskers are touching the surface or person.

backstory
Two people, a pair who fell in love, a lynx wylderborne spent a lustful night with a Siamese cat wylderborne... and from there conceived in a single eve. She was pregnant, and the child growing inside her womb would never become someone to gain endless praise and care. She was a shaman, high-standing and refusing to state the father of her child. Though, inevitably it would be revealed as one of the lowers as her kitten grew. Marx Romanov was a child cursed with the physical features of a Siamese cat from his father’s strong, domesticated cat genes. Inevitably, he gained the pelt of beige with the memorable markings of dark brown and renowned blue eyes... and upon his birth, things shifted. As the child was gazed upon and held closely by his mother’s arms. The accusations arrived quickly as people realized the father’s identity. On that day, his mother lost her position as the shaman, however, the clan in all their grace was uncertain about the youth’s destiny... and for a time they considered having the magical potent child maintain it while his aunt took up his mother’s stead. Nonetheless, Marx would be raised alongside his parents while getting persistent exposure to his aunt.
As a child, Marx was an energetic and happy kitten. In his youth, never was he aware of the sacrifices his mother made to give birth to him. At the time, Marx’s father was completely out of the picture, leaving the child to be raised by his mother. She was a woman who adored him, clinging on to hopes for a future that followed her footsteps. She valued the role of shaman, and despite being dismissed of her occupation planned on cultivating those wishes in her son. For the time, thoughts of a shaman “betraying” her people and birthing a domestic wylderborne were unheard of. Therefore, she prayed his species could be dismissed and he could pursue the path she hoped best suited him. Whole-heartedly, she was under the impression her song could pursue the path of the shaman because of his high-magical energy best suited for rituals. Though, the young woman held hopes aplenty because of the appearance of her son. She wished to view the changes in their clan, to overturn the old, biased beliefs for a set of new, welcoming ones. Alas, the lengths her son’s species would reach was up to debate.
Unknowingly through the course of Marx’s childhood, his future was up to consistent, questioned debate. Some believed the magic potency was crucial for the continuance of the clan and it was something Marx’s aunt lacked. Others clung to the biased traditions of the clan, insisting on their enforcement for the centuries to come. Despite these debates orbiting around his future, Marx was blissfully unaware and spent his days alongside his mother and learning from his aunt. Alas, atmospheres between the women were as different as night and day. His mother was a soft, gentle woman who promoted his dreams, bandaged his wounds, showered him in affection and provided the warmth a young child needed. Then his aunt was a strict woman with a voice of demand and coldness. Her expectations were high and at times her words rang with bile when she referred to him. Among the many who despised domestic wylderborne, Marx had little chance of championing her love and care. It left plenty of eves returning from his shaman teachings in a lowered mood that his mother would uplift. It would be his mother’s pride and kindness that kept him pushing through those instances.
As education inside the clan took place, Marx hastily discovered his position in their small school. The child was bullied for his domestic wylderborne species. His other clanmates shoved him around, tripped him up and threw derogatory comments at him at every turn. A child treated as a second-class citizen because of the teachings of older clan members. He became a withdrawn child in school, oftentimes finding quiet places to continue his learning without the pressures of bullying. Nonetheless, he experienced the bruises, cuts and words flashing through the disgusting jungle of cruel students. He attempted to ignore them as his happiness was limited to situations of being around his mother. Only around his wylderborne mother was Marx treated differently, treated properly and given the comforts needed to maintain his strength. His education proceeded with his general schooling knowledge being balanced with his teachings for becoming a shaman. Over time, the notion of helping others brought joy to his heart and his lips grinning at the thought. He wanted to conduct rituals and help the clan, assist his mother and his home. He wanted it more than anything.
Growing older was greeted with lonesomeness as his schoolmates avoided him and his clanmates bullied him. He was treated horribly by most with exceptions being from those inside the circles he belonged to. Fellow domestic wylderbornes and those considered wyldermen were people treated horrifically and among the few who could understand his pain aside from his mother. Though, he maintained hopes as he grew older and was getting closer to becoming the clan’s shaman. It brought him excitement, young Marx smiling through the pains of being rejected by his fellow. Though as he exhibited his magic potential, his fate was callously debated between the members of the clan. The higher-ups were uncertain about allowing a domestic wylderborne a position as a shaman and the only thing potentially solidifying his position was his magic potency. As the son to his magically potent mother, Marx carried those abilities well and displayed them in the rituals carried out in training. Though as he grew, Marx was clueless about the endless debates on his future.
He remembered turning 18. Gifted a small cabin home with little furniture, he would learn independence with the arrival of the crucial number. His mother would visit, helping him learn more and assuring his well-being. While he was apprehensive about living alone, over the days, he grew accustomed and comfortable with the prospect. The days were counting down to his ceremony to become the clan’s shaman, thus the first days of independence were spent reading his books and practicing his magic and wood carving skills. He was excited for the future that awaited him, his body teeming as thoughts of helping others filled his head. He remembered struggling to sleep when the ceremony was tomorrow. Thoughts of his mother’s pride as she confessed her wishes over a celebration dinner filled his heart with hope. It was everything he wanted, the overarching goal, his fate in life to become a shaman as predicted by his ancestors. He envisioned the ceremony, thinking how people may be disgruntled at first but fantasizing the best of futures for the outcome.
Alas... the following morning was met with a knock at the door as he cooked breakfast. His eyes flickered in confusion as he glanced over, knowing full well the ceremony was not until the evening. He thought perhaps it was his mother returning to give another congratulation before the time arrived. He was a fool when he opened the door. Upon opening the threshold he was greeted with the familiar faces of his clanmates. The words leaving their lips shook them as everything was explained. Don’t bother coming to the ceremony. The initial words before they informed him he would no longer be the shaman. The news crushed him, however, to worsen his circumstance, his mother was driven out of the clan. He remembered questioning it, however, was cut off and pushed with his domestic position was not worth it. At one point, he wore a fragile smile and a disheartened ‘ok’ as they left. The shaky manner his paw closed the door as he felt the tears welling. He knew he should worry about his mother, think of her, but as everything shattered his heart ached and his eyes blurred... and he cried.
Over the days, Marx worked on locating his mother and helping her best he could from his position in the clan. He attempted to negotiate, but his clan considered it a vast betrayal of traditions having a domestic type child. Though he would continue his work through the years, his mother managed to settle into life in Lorsette and started living with an old acquaintance of hers. Little did Marx know she debated the worth in staying in a location filled with biases. Meanwhile, with little options, Marx remained in the clan, operating as a clan hand and refused his position as the shaman. From time to time, he visits his mother in Lorserre.

Nested in the twisted roots, living in small log cabins with overgrown fauna is the Uninhibited Claws. A clan of wylderkin living amidst the tall trees and wavering grass beneath a spring's breeze. High standing and existing since the aftermath of the War of Traitors, the Uninhibited Claws are a notorious group. Nowadays, they exist in the wilderness surrounding Lorsette where the thicket suffocates those who enter. Clothed anthropormorphic animals only trading their hunts with the city when necessary and maintaining their religion. Though, notably, their stance on those within are less than favourable.
Admiring those fully anthropomorphic and undomesticated animals of the wylderkin, Uninhibited Claws are notorious for exhibiting maltreatment to those who take on domesticated forms or display minimal features (i.e. ears & tails). Those who are undomesticated within the clan are referred to as Ferals (i.e. snakes, crocodiles, bears, wolves) and place a lock upon the high-standing ranks for those important features. Those who have the form of domesticated animals (i.e. domestic cats & dogs) are considered lesser and referred to as Domestics and stuck in the meagre role of pack hands. Others with limited animal features are considered not as in touch with their animal forms and are placed in a similar role of assisting the pack with their needs.
Inside the Uninhibited Claws are a variety of ranks and jobs everyone is sorted in. The Leader and Advisor act as command and second command, working in sync to run the Uninhibited Claws. The Shaman is the master of rituals and one who works in the healing den. They act as a doctor for the clan, unless emergency services are needed, and lead in magic rituals. The three heads work as their jobs would assume, being divided up and working beneath the leader, advisor and shaman. The regular member ranks fit into several categories.
Shaman Assistants - Those who assist with rituals and medicine. Though, due to the beliefs of the Inhibited Claws, they recently decreed only fully anthropomorphic Ferals can take these positions. Members: open
Hunters - Those who assist with hunting and gathering duties for the clan's food and wealth. Hunters also get to enter Lorsette to sell their goods and sometimes assist with the farming when short-handed or during stressful harvest times. Members: open
Guards - Those who worry about the protection of the encampment and practice in the skills of fighting. Uninhibited Claws are known for their strong fighters, even occasionally taking challenges in exchange for prizes. Members: open
Informants - Those who gather information on behalf of the clan. They often enter Lorsette and gather information about recent events and ongoings. Members: open
Clan Hands - Considered one of the lower ranks, clan hands operate as a group of misc workers. They receive requests from many of the higher members for things like gathering firewood or weaving baskets. They are versatile helpers. Members: Marx Romanov, open
Housing for the Uninhibited Claws notably consists of cabins constructed of wood with plants growing around and sometimes on top of the structure. Some of these houses are even built into hills and are relatively small with minimal rooms. Uninhibited Claws does allow for the use of technology, but rarely uses anything beyond basics. Chances are, there would be nothing fancy like flat screens or crazy kitchen devices. Things like cellphones, small televisions, refrigerators and ovens are among the few things provided within the clan.
Naturally, with all the wanted ads I do have some innate requirements. First off, the Shaman position must be either taken by Marx's aunt or perhaps a cousin and needs to be fully anthropomorphic and a Feral type. Otherwise, my history is effectively ruined. All higher-ups must follow the same protocols. Most members should be wylderkin, with the only exception being animal species of which exhibit ears and tails, otherwise they will be forced to leave at 18. Those who are domestic or lack anthropomorphic features, or are not wylderkin are treated like second class, and this should be maintained in most, if not all, scenarios. Please try to have wylderkin characters over other species, since they should be in more frequency than any other species.
