Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!

Relying almost entirely on the land, Sedge and Fanaa were required to work hard, especially as winter ticked close. While the ziz saved plenty of funds from what they sold, he preferred to gather immense amounts to avoid a deep delve into their money. The lack of requirement for hydro and other human fundamentals allowed for savings, alas, the grey-haired older brother preferred maintaining a comfortable boundary to avoid starving.
Wealth was saved for the purchasing of fruits, vegetables and other difficulty obtained products. While he maintained a garden throughout the warmer months, he created and preserved them to assure their survival. Nonetheless, the preparation of meats for the harsh winter would be a requirement coming into the frigid season. Occasionally, they could afford the terrible hunt in these days, however, they would require fixation on making up for those bad hunting days and store away the meat.
Smoothly, the ziz grabbed the pre-chopped ingredients and poured it into the pot for the cooking process. Quietly, Sedge dipped the long ladle into the stew, stirring about the ingredients and allowing the thick scent of cooking vegetables and meats. The gentle bumps of chopped ingredients bumped against his ladle as he stirred. A subtle, brief grin played across Sedge’s lips before gradually dissipating into a neutral expression. Behind him, he heard his younger brother’s answer to his questions about his hunting.
“Unfortunate. We should have enough to last a while. Some of that meat we likely want to use up before it spoils,” the ziz started, a sigh breaching his lips. “So tomorrow will be meat night, alright?”
The heat of the stew breathed against his face, steam warming his countenance. Their supper for the evening was almost finished, thus, Sedge laid the ladle against the side of the pot. Slowly, he walked towards the cupboards, grabbing a pair of bowls. When his brother spoke again, he glanced over his shoulder at him.
“Yep, it just needs some time, Fanaa, but it should be cooked soon. Then we will store those berries and maybe make a jam out of them,” the older male explained.
After setting the bowls down, Sedge walked over to prim and pristine bottles of water. Frequently, the ziz pre-boiled water to remove any impurities to maintain a suitable amount of liquid. Some remained within the basement and were used as a back-up reserve for their drinking water.
“Want a glass, Fanaa?” He asked, glancing at his brother.
Fortunately, the rain meant filling barrels, allowing for Sedge to continue the process of boiling water to refill any stores lost from their drinking and cooking. There were always fortunes to the gifts of nature, especially rain as it replenished food for prey, watered their garden and provided drinking water. Quietly, the grey-haired man stood beside the bottle, waiting for Fanaa’s answer.

Slowly, a hunter's hand reached for the blanket covering the windows to gaze at the outside world. Though, spiting the coming spring's saviour from hunger, clouds brewed together. Grey clouds collected in mass above the earth. The mere sight of it caused long-time hunter, Sedge Light, to release an annoyed sigh from his lips. The darkening grey clouds suggested a coming storm and accompanying those beliefs was a rough time hunting as scents and tracks were washed way beneath falling droplets.
Additionally, it suggested a coming cold front and inevitable soaking of the ground. Only adding to the setback was their lack of crops planted. The recent release of winter left solemn opportunities to start the miniature farm and begin surviving thoroughly. Yet, the primary concern was related to the circumstance of Sedge's brother. The wolf-like younger male left for the purposes of hunting food for their stomachs. Alas, rain regularly equated to difficulties in food gathering and warmth on account of wet air.
The large man's hefty steps creaked across the cabin floor, heading for the front door. The awning of their home protected the stacked firewood. If his younger brother, Fanaa, would be returning in the frightful storm, Sedge knew he best warm their small cabin with fire. From the large stack, he gathered two logs, placing them atop his muscular arm before grabbing a clump of sticks and leaves. He lumbered back to the door, his steps hefty as he returned inside. The clumps of leaves and logs were placed into the stone fireplace.
Gradually, he assorted and shuffled them, assuring the twigs and leaves remained at the bottom while the logs stayed at the top. From atop the fireplace mantel, the hermit grasped the long-necked lighter and brought it close before squeezing the trigger. A small flame lit the tip of the device, licking the leaves and spreading to start a warming fire. For a moment he observed the spreading flames before retreating back to the door. As he opened the front door, intentionally leaving it slightly open, the ziz's ears detected raindrops falling atop the brush and the roof of their home.
Another soft sigh breezed through the older male's lips as he gathered several logs in his arms. Using brisk strides, he returned inside, stacking the logs on a section designated for them. In the winter months, it would be taller, however, in the spring's regulated temperature it was regulated. Carefully, he stacked the logs, his attention remaining on them until the door opened. Once finished, the man returned to his stance, exiting the cabin to walk around the perimeter where the cellar doors were.
Closed and locked containers were stationed in a cellar, filled with gathered supplies. From the shelved containers, Sedge plucked dried fruits and vegetables. From the underground, the larger man heard it, the sound of Fanaa howling. He gathered a few other things, from some leftover game meat to additional, pre-packaged fruits and vegetables before heading to the cellar stairs. He marched up the stairs before closing and locking the doors behind him. In the hardening rain, the older brother walked around the house, opening the cabin door to discover his brother devouring a branch of berries.
"Hunt didn't go well?" He asked with a sigh. "Damn rain."
The larger man crossed through the threshold, a hand reaching to close the cabin door behind him. He approached their scratched-up wooden table. The items were set onto the worn surface, allowing his brother to see the food.
"We could have stew if you want," he suggested to Fanaa.
Despite waiting for an answer, Sedge marched over the cupboard. A large pot was grabbed and placed onto the woodstove. They would be required to purify some water, but soup on a cold, stormy day sounded excellent.
Broad-shouldered and standing at a height of 6’2”, Sedge is a well-built tank of a man. Years of living amidst the wilderness of Lorsette has left him strong, capable and imposing in stature. His arms are thick with muscles, similar to his legs. As a result of the thickness of his torso, his stomach is flat, having the impression of muscling across its front. Across his frame are many paler scars from his time spent in the wilderness. These rake across his body, being nothing of particular note with some appearing similar to claw marks. These are derived from having to fight against other animals for survival. His skin is a fairer complexion from years spent outside working and surviving.
Atop the neck of those broad shoulders is a large, oval-shaped face. With high-standing cheekbones across a wide face, Sedge’s face matches his body to a t. Those cheeks lead down to a strong jawline and a wide, rounded chin. From his face sprouts a rounded, wide nose which lacks an upturn. Above his wide nose are a pair of almond shaped eyes coloured a grey-blue colour. From his scalp comes short-cropped off-white grey hair. The hair looks fluffy and soft near to the top with the sensation being similar to an owlette’s feathers. His hair is straight in style, this being natural.
Clothes are sometimes handmade from animal hides or bought on brief city visits. The man picks fitting clothes, nothing too restrictive or loose fitting. Regularly, he wears a thick jacket during the winter months and anything that can maintain warmth. As somebody who stays outside of the city, Sedge regularly gets dirty, thus it is not uncommon. Whenever he is seen, it is noted Sedge carries a bow at all times alongside his arrows. From his back can sprout a pair of snow-white wings with black and dark brown specks. This is from Sedge’s owl form, though they do show bigger when manifested in his wing manifestation.
When in the form of his snowy owl, he is a slightly larger than average white owl. His white feathers have black and dark brown specks covering his body. He has a small, black beak obscured by white feathers and matching black talons.
Owl Shifting -- Mastered The ability to shift into the avian form of an owl. The specific breed of Sedge’s owl form is that of a snowy owl. When shifted into his natural owl form, he is larger than average because of his bigger human size. Smoothly, Sedge can shift between his owl form and human form, regularly taking approximately 25 seconds due his mastery. Other than his slightly larger size, Sedge appears as any snowy owl, allowing him to blend in if not affected by his size shifting. In this form, Sedge gains additional perks such as access to his enhanced strength and enhanced speed. However, should Sedge get severely injured, he will return to his human form.
Enhanced Strength -- Advanced The ability to enhance one’s strength beyond that of an average individual. In owl form, Sedge’s strength proves incredible. While his strength has proven most effective with larger forms, he has. Though, due to the generalized shape of his avian body, there are only a few methods Sedge can use to inflict damage. This regularly consists of using his wings or talons to inflict pain on others. When his strength is enhanced, he can break bones and cause serious damage, even being capable of harming others with his sharp beak. However, extensive usage of his abilities result in stiffening of his muscles. Therefore, these instances can render Sedge sore or possibly bedridden if the usage is extreme.
Enhanced Speed -- Advanced The ability to enhance one’s speed beyond that of an average individual. Frequently, the speed accomplished by Sedge’s enhancement affects his flight speed more than anything. He is capable of swooping and soaring at intense speeds, allowing him to outfly faster birds and dive bomb people or prey. Efficiently, he can escape from people when in his owl form because of his speed. However, in spite of his intense speed, he can tire quickly and be required to devour food. Similarly, there are always risks of creating soreness similar to his enhanced strength which can hinder him.
Size Shifting -- Mastered The ability to shift size when entering owl form. This ability only works in animal form and must be applied while the user shifts from human to animal form. He can shift to an incredibly large size, making him fearsome and intimidating because of the intense size. When shifted, he takes up more space, however, can also make himself smaller if he wishes. However, in order to accomplish this, Sedge must use his size shifting in tandem with his owl shift. When he shifts to different sizes it takes more energy, but more crucially, more time. Unlike shifting into his regular owl form, shifting with a size shift takes him approximately 30 seconds and similar to when he owl shifts, he is vulnerable during this.
Wing Manifestation -- Advanced The ability to manifest a pair of white wings with black specks. Spawning from Sedge’s back are his wings, which grow in size for the purpose flight. The ziz can manifest his wings in approximately 20 seconds, painlessly growing them from his back. He is capable of flying with his wings because of their intense size and power. Alas, should Sedge’s wings receive an injury, there is a chance he will crash, however, will be unable to fly. Should the injuries to his wings get severe, he will be unable to manifest them for weeks equal to the length needed to heal them. In addition, in situations where Sedge starts tiring, there is a risk his wings will disappear or refuse to spawn. Regularly, Sedge uses his wings as a method of quick travel or to check the patterns in the forest animals.
backstory
Trigger Warnings: Neglect
An undeserving title of parents weighed on the breasts of the couple who conceived and subsequently had Sedge Light. Created on an attention starved night where contraception was forgotten, the child was unwanted from the beginning. His parents craved the freedoms of single life and never wished to be tied down by a child. Perhaps at the time people would have blamed it on their youth. The foolishness of their young minds bringing about the child they considered more restraints rather than a person. Rather, they desired more from their lives than the supposed meaningless prospect of raising a child. Thus, in frequency, Sedge was neglected by his parents. A meagre after thought in their small world that hardly mattered. They were selfish individuals, caring about their own wishes rather than assuring the child they never wished for would be sent to a better home.
Narrowly, their child survived, needs only met after minutes of ear-grating bawling from a helpless infant. Each demand met with an immature groan and eye roll as they roused from their stead and tended to their “needy” child. Never once did they receive the inclination to care about their child. A precious bundle of joy being exchanged for fucking idiot throughout the day without a second thought. They cared naught for what they birthed, ignoring the child entirely whenever possible. The footholds of destiny led down a path where Sedge struggled because of his anti-social environment. An infancy filled with being ignored by his parents, the type far too stubborn to place their child into the fostering system and live their lives. Though, nobody paid mind to the neglected child. In public, Sedge wore question clothing with stains or the dirt covering the cloth.
As the child grew, he was forced into independence at a young age. He learned to steal a little food from his parents, hiding away and consuming. Whatever food he could snatch, Sedge was hasty to accomplish the action to avoid the consequence of starving. Their lack of attention allowed him to slither through the kitchen and take whatever he could to reserve himself. Furthermore, the child gained food from the sympathetic who cared, but too frightened to get involved. They assumed the parents lacked wealth, hence leaving them to struggle in maintaining their child’s cleanliness. Perhaps they believed everything would change over time, their child gaining the love and attention required for one so young. They were wrong. When school came, while they minutely concerned themselves with Sedge’s attendance, it was meagrely for the factor of having spare time without the child.
He was fortunate to have lunch, however, the food given was limited. Despite the neglect, Sedge wished to return home where he could hastily steal food for consumption when hungry. Unfortunately, there was little Sedge could do to avoid the sad circumstances he was dealt in the moment. However, he worked towards surviving the situation of his life. In school, Sedge narrowly managed to accomplish average grades in school. His home life made flourishing difficult, Sedge struggling from a creative perspective rather than anything. Other topics were average, Sedge displaying a more practical mindset from a young age. Never was he taught creativity, his mind only geared to survive the questionable realm that was the Light household. Thus, his better subjects easily became math or anything memory based. Though as the child grew older, he began resenting his parents more and more.
Begrudgingly, Sedge worked through school, maintaining his average grades in hopes of escape. Though, the child merely kept his head down low and powered through school. The notion of graduation brought thoughts of freedom. Alas, he learned hastily his preferences for the wilderness opposed to the suffocation of his homelife. Therefore, as the edge of his time in school reached, Sedge’s plans were already in fruition. He worked towards getting his hunting and fishing licenses alongside the licenses required to sell. It was his manner of living, and as he finished school, he was quick to live it. He moved into a small cabin in the woods, acting as a hermit as he cut off electronically and began acting as a hermit. Rarely, would Sedge enter Lorsette, frequently avoiding the place except for in situations of selling. Though, there would become a reason to temporarily return.
Another reckless night, another child entering the world to a pair of unloving parents. It was years into the birth of his younger brother that Sedge would be informed in passing by an old classmate. A person who was the type to believe everybody was his friend despite circumstance... and upon learning these factors, Sedge held limited options. He remembered abandoning his selling for the day to visit his old family home. How he pushed open the paint-chipped door and requested to see his younger brother. He knew his parents would not care, thus when introduced to Fanaa, Sedge offered to take him off their hands... and they agreed. From that day forward, his younger brother began living alongside him, Sedge teaching his younger brother best he could while focusing on their survival. While his brother grew feral towards strangers, he hardly batted an eye. After all, where else could those forgotten by society go than the wilderness that accepted them?
