Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
It was Sunday, late in the afternoon as umbrellas began closing one after another as if on cue. The rain and sleet subsided, filing the roads and sidewalks of Downtown Lorsette with freezing water. As much as Amelia hated to admit it, these Canadians earned her respect with regards to the way they handle themselves in such bleak weather. All the more baffling considering that the rest of the world should have well been enjoying the spring weather. Back at home, people would have complained nonstop for just a few moments of light rain. She then folded her umbrella and covered it well before tucking it inside the inner pockets of her brown trench coat.
It was a couple more kilometres before she reached home, having just recently acquired her week's worth of medication from the TRS Headquarters. It would appear as though the HQ still does not trust her to ingest the proper dosage, understandable enough considering that Amelia finds it hard to trust herself as well. Looking around, seeing people minding their own business not having a care in the world was all this tall, bespectacled blonde woman could wish for. It took some time but after some months of living here, she's finally gotten used to it again. Peace at last, well for now at least.
Then again, Lorsette was far from perfect. The soft clopping sounds of her dress shoes came to an abrupt halt. She stood still as crowds of people walked past her. She could hear the uniform rhythm of their every footsteps so well that it made it much easier for her to notice that one anomaly from the distance. It was fast, it was large, and it was coming this way. She let out a deep sigh, her cold breath visibly permeating before her. Shortly afterwards, a winged individual wearing a TRS uniform shouted as he flew past the middle of the road, warning everyone to clear the sidewalks. A brute was coming apparently.
Just like that, the people flocked to the countless alleyways, stores and restaurants in sight, effectively leaving the streets free of any possible casualties. Whereas Amelia would have immediately jumped into action, shifted into her huge canine form and neutralised the enemy herself when given the chance, she did not. Instead, she simply looked around to see if anybody was left straggling after a couple of minutes standing still. There no longer hearing any footsteps from the near vicinity nor was there anyone foolish enough to stay still right after that announcement, excluding her own cheeky self of course.
The winged man flew back to her once again, basically shouting orders for her to leg it and hide. With her stern expression, she ignored the flyboy and instead put her hands to her pocket, practically strolling towards the nearest alleyway, the monster wouldn't reach her location from another 3 minutes anyway. It would seem as though the local TRS has the whole situation under control, as she already caught a glimpse of a few more members rushing past. As much as she would have wanted to help, it was no longer her duty to do so. Instead, she is but another law enforcement officer now, there to fill in the gaps right after a crime was committed. A fitting job for someone like her that has failed to save so many.
Nevertheless, she still wanted to trust the TRS, even after their shortcomings and mistakes which ultimately led to her downfall, she still somehow believed in their cause. It was not long before the monster appeared in Amelia's line of vision, with her just leaning by the wall near the edge of the alley giving her a perfect view of the battle. In sharp contrast to the few others stuck with her who were very much in shambles, cowering in their own corners. The very ground shook as the fighting commenced between the hunk of dark matter and 6 other TRS members. Meanwhile Amelia simply took off her foggy glasses in order to wipe it clear.
As it stood, they didn't need any of her help at all. The brute went down just a mere minute after the fighting began. There were no casualties, aside from a few portions of newly broken roads, sidewalks and walls that is.
As she sat on the rooftop of a building smack dab in the middle of downtown, the rain and sleet which had been pouring down all afternoon, suddenly stopped. The dark clouds above began to slowly clear though a few still hung around, the sun's rays now could poke through the gaps. Echo watched all the people down below, close their umbrellas all at once. While she simply used a bit of fire manipulation to dry her wet hair. Not long after the rain ceased and stopped, she could hear a loud voice telling everyone to clear the way. It was a winged man and some others wearing TRS gear chasing after a low level demon who'd seemed to be running amok in downtown. She watched them quickly take it down. "How boring" She said to herself as she stood up before jumping down from the three story building she'd been sitting on top of. Landing on her feet between the TRS people and a be-speckled blonde woman. Echo was wearing her usual red uniform, black tights and white boots. She looked over to the fallen demon and gave it a look of disappointment. "Such a weakling, if you were stronger and more intelligent you wouldn't have ended up that way, you damned fool." She spoke coldly to the captured demon. What a fool he was, this is exactly why Echo was more cautious about her movements in the daytime. She then turned to the blonde woman in glasses and examined her from top to bottom with her clear cyan-green eyes. "Sorry if I startled you. I was watching the whole thing from up there." Echo said as she pointed up at the building directly behind her. Judging from everything Echo witnessed while people watching, she could only assume the woman she was speaking to had some kind of connection to the TRS but it was merely a hunch, one she wished to confirm for her own personal reasons. "I'm Echo Strauss, what's your name?" She said, with a bright and cheerful smile, giving off a completely different vibe from when she berated the demon. All in good time. Echo didn't have to rush anything to get the info she wanted.
Just as soon as Amelia slid her glasses back on was she met with the most peculiar sight of the day, even more so than the mindless terror on the loose. Swathes of long pink hair swayed through the cold moist air as figure descended ever so rapidly, landing gracefully on their feet right there before Amelia’s line of sight. Quite an entrance if Amelia and the other TRS members could say so themselves, catching the attention of many others in the area. It was a young woman who wore a somewhat strange looking red uniform. Unsurprisingly, her sudden appearance prompted the TRS members as well as Amelia to take caution. How very odd indeed, that Amelia, with her super enhanced senses could have missed her even as she stood well above ground level. This could either mean that the said person was just laying still the whole time, just watching from above for some reason, or she was just so fast as to bypass Amelia’s radar.
Everyone’s suspicions were only amplified upon the woman’s nonchalant remarks which was oddly enough, directed towards the subdued hunk of a beast. Then Amelia saw it, the red horns that adorned her forehead... As if her day could not have gotten any worse, there it stood before her, a bloody demon of all things. The very sight flooded her mind with unnecessary thoughts, a tinge of distress invading her otherwise composed psyche. She was rendered motionless for a moment, even as the crowd began to disperse and before she knew it, she stood there alone, watching the strange woman’s every move. As much as living in the very cosmopolitan city of Lorsette has somewhat opened her mind to the existence of right-minded demons, the woman’s callous attitude and apathetic exterior felt all too familiar.
Even as her mind wandered back to the harrowing past, Amelia gritted her teeth and in mere seconds managed to compose herself. Amelia’s watchful eyes seem to have caught her attention. This woman could very well be a member of the AP, especially after she herself so clearly stated that she had in fact, been watching from atop a building this entire time. Amelia’s eyes briefly darted towards the TRS group behind the woman as a couple of them carefully eyed her every movements. If her hunch is correct, then this woman could be a high class threat.
All of a sudden, the woman’s demeanor changed to a more lighthearted and cheerful one, introducing herself as an Echo Strauss. Amelia and the other TRS members were no fools, the act of changing one’s outward personality on a whim was a common habit for many hardened criminals. Neither did she know what exactly was going through Echo’s head when she spoke to the monster as if it were a person. Perhaps she was a few sandwiches short of a picnic, or was simply taking the piss out of the creature. Nevertheless, Amelia felt no need to act all casual around the demon. She instead shot back with another question. “You sound as if you know that creature.” Amelia said with her pleasant sounding and somewhat posh UK accent as she pointed towards the now restrained creature. Shortly afterwards, one of the TRS members summoned a huge sword and in one fell swoop, cleanly sliced off the huge terror’s head causing it to disintegrate to ashes.
Amelia’s attention casually shifted back to Echo and commented, “Brutes have always been the most simpleminded of the bunch.” She said this assuming that Echo knew what a terror was. She then leisurely dug through her coat pocket and took out her badge which she then briefly showed to Echo before finally answering her question, “Police Inspector Amelia Sutherland.” Pocketed the badge soon afterwards as she began analysing the demon from head to toe, as vexing as it may be for her. “So Miss Strauss, are you by any chance, carrying any valid ID at the moment?” Amelia inquired, this time making no secret of her wary disposition.
Echo noticed both the woman and the TRS people put their guard up when she made her entrance. This came as no surprise to her, most people of other species acted this way upon meeting her. It was no rare occurrence. Echo just kept her guard up as well taking in the sights of her surroundings. The blonde prompted Echo with the inquiry of if she knew the creature. By creature, did she mean demon? Or something else? It looked like one of the unsightly minions her father had under his employment back home but perhaps she was mistaken. "No, I don't know this creature but it did remind me of one of my father's employees back home in hell. Looks like I was mistaken though." Shortly after her response, one of the people who had subdued the creature, summoned a big sword and chopped it's head off. The creature turned to ashes as a result. "My, how brutal but exciting at the same time." She said with a look of fascination. Her attention was soon brought back to the blonde woman who dug out some kind of badge or something and introduced herself as a Police inspector then asked Echo is she was carrying any sort of valid ID at the moment. It was clear this woman was very wary and cautious of Echo. However, since coming to Earth, she hadn't made any trouble for anyone, she was simply living a care-free life as she pleased but even though that was the case, people would still treat her like a threat. Echo simply sighed"I'm sure you're probably thinking I'm some heinous two-faced criminal, yes?" She said looking at both Amelia and the TRS people behind her. She then reached in her pocket, pulled out a lollipop and popped it in her mouth. "I hate to burst your bubbles but, I'm simply just trying to live my life here now that I'm unable to return to my home and to my family. Surely you people wouldn't understand the feelings of being thrust into a different world and being stuck there for all eternity. On top of that, people everywhere treat me like a threat." While being treated this way was the norm for her, it didn't mean she should have to hold back with how she felt. "As for your question, Inspector Amelia, I have nothing of the sort. I was simply people watching above when this incident piqued my interest and I decided to get a closer look." Echo was telling the truth, it was obvious these people would suspect her no matter what she said so, she figured it was best just to speak honestly. "I am no threat to this city, nor its people, I have absolutely no interest in associating with weaklings." Her expression held no doubt, it was unwavering and showed no signs of deception.
Based on her observations, Echo appeared to be a maverick of some sorts. Her apparent fascination with the dispatching of the terror only gave more credence to the earlier notion. Given Amelia’s line of work, she was all too used in dealing with such unorthodox individuals. Echo claims to have come straight out of hell which could either mean that she has been around since the War of Traitors, or was very good at bluffing. Regardless, Amelia could care less about the demon’s background, having heard some pretty outrageous and convoluted backstories from other criminals herself. Probably the most absurd one she had heard was from a convicted murderer who declared that he was Thanatos himself. Suddenly, after calmly protesting her innocence, Echo took out a lollipop for some reason and cheekily slipped it into her mouth.
As the demon went on about how victimised she felt with the situation, Amelia could not help but notice the sorry state of some of the road surfaces and pavements. All she wanted was to have a relaxing Sunday afternoon really, in fact, she could just call in one of her subordinates who could fill in for her since she was technically not in active duty. Nevertheless, she could not risk a potentially dangerous individual to be on the loose, nor could she let these smashed roads block traffic the whole week. Whether she liked it or not, it was her job to doubt the testimonies of suspicious individuals, as vexing as it may be. Having listened to the demon's words, Amelia then took out a mini notebook and pen from her pocket, putting her focus onto writing something as she briefly diverted her attention away from the wayward demon. “Well then, please do avoid distracting the TRS from doing their duties, nor should you speak to terrors as if they were your familiar. It really does not help with your current predicament.” She candidly said with her characteristically refined and neutral tone of voice while hastily scribbling something onto that notebook of hers.
Echo then answered her question upon which she could only comment, “I see…” Shortly afterwards, the blonde and bespectacled inspector took out a PDA device vaguely resembling a mobile phone, positioning it in front of her face as she turned back to Echo. In one swift movement, she pressed something on the PDA’s side panel, followed by a very soft clicking noise as she skillfully took Echo’s picture. She also began snapping screenshots of the broken roads and the now scattered TRS members in the distance while saying, “Demons actually represent 2.2% of the city’s population, almost all of them being decent-minded and law abiding individuals. Assuming that you are one of them, the city hall is over there… the one with the huge clock tower.” Amelia pointed westwards where the city hall’s huge landmark is still well and visible. “They would gladly accommodate you and help with the creation of your very own ID which I must say, would benefit you greatly if you wish to live here, or pretty much anywhere else really.”
Amelia then pocketed her PDA as she slowly inched closer towards the nearest TRS member. “Then again, if the people here are too ‘weak’ and ‘boring’ for your tastes, then I’d suggest going further north, towards the Arctic Region where S-class Terrors are apparently running amok.” She bluntly said while walking away. Something about Echo’s attitude reminded her too much about the time she faced a similar foe, it made her feel really uncomfortable contrary to her seemingly calm and collected demeanour. All she wanted to do now was to make a short report about the incident and it was off to the pub with her, she needed a few pints after this. “Welcome to the 21st century, Miss Echo Strauss...” Amelia dryly said as she passed her by.
