Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
[break]Maria arrived at Lorsette Public Library bright and early in the morning. She worked there as a librarian and she loved her job. Getting to be surrounded by knowledge all day long was such a wonderful thing to the bookworm. She dug the key to the front doors out of her bag, unlocked them, went in, closed the door behind her and locked it again. After all, it would still be awhile before the library would be open to the public for the day and she needed to make sure to tidy up before it was time to open the doors. She put her bag down behind her desk and her coat on the chair. The only times she didn't need to wear it was when inside a warm building or place. She then headed for the receiving room where returned books were kept to be put away. There weren't many books to be put back since she had done the majority of them yesterday before going home. She took the rolling cart full of books, pushed it out of the receiving room and over to the section where these books belonged.[break]
[break]An hour or so passed and Maria had finished putting all the books away just in time to open the doors. She grabbed the keys and walked over to the front doors and unlocked them, flipped the sign hanging in the door from 'closed' to 'open' so people would know they could come on in. She grabbed a book from a shelf not too far from her desk, then sat down to wait for people to start coming in. For the time being, she could read to keep herself from feeling bored. The book she had chosen was titled "how to clean your sword safely" since lately, she'd been having issues cleaning her katana after she finished her night job and she wanted to learn an easier and safer way to do so.[break]
Levi was a tall man with dark hair and piercing red eyes. He had just snuck in before the library opened. Wasnt that hard to do being who he was. He had done this a few times before. ”You know you shouldn't run this place by yourself.” Levi said to the girl in a handsome yet cold voice. ”I still have no trouble sneaking in here” he smiled. He was Levi a teacher of the local college was well was drama teacher at the high school. ”Tell me why do you run this place by yourself, I mean someone like me could easily overwhelm you,” he said going to attempt to pin her to the door to try to make her all flustered. He enjoyed doing that but of cours , it was just to prove a point. As he normally always pulled away.
He then smirked having brought a dark violent book to donate to the library. He always has thought the books were too cheery. ”So you planning on working all day again?” he asked he normally didn't see her except for in the library. Levi sat down at a table leaning on the chair with his feet on the table. Right now he was in human form without his horns and wings showing. He may not have looked like ot but he was the second most powerful demon. Right hand to Zolo himself. Levi today actually seemed rather sleepy as of the fact he didnt sleep much but he tried to hide these facts. @rinny
[break]Just a bit before she went to unlock the doors, she felt a familiar presence slip in. Before she had a chance to say something, a voice addressed her. It was a deep, smooth voice of a man, giving her a friendly warning? of sorts. She turned to face the owner of the voice. It was none other than Professor Levi from the local college. She only knew who he was because she would occasionally go assist the librarian on the college campus when they were short handed. So she had seen him on a few occasions. Even tho he looked human enough, he seemed to give off an air different than other humans. She would know, after all, Maria had been a spirit wandering the world for over a century now. It was not hard to tell when a person may be something other than human. Alas, he was still very much a mystery to Maria. However, that only fueled her knowledge thirsty and curious mind. [break]
[break]She took notice of the rather ominous looking book he had been holding onto. He then said something about being able to overwhelm her but she didn't really hear anything else, she was too distracted by her curiosity about the book he had been holding onto. She looked up just in time to see him closing the distance between them. He looked like he was going to try pin her to the closest wall but he didn't. Even though, he ended up doing nothing to her, she felt her ice cold skin grow warmer around her face. She had blushed at the thought of what he might have done. However, she quickly regained her composure from beforehand. Then went to unlock the doors. Maria had more than just an interest in him for curiosity's sake. Professor Levi was incredibly handsome and she also found his dangerous vibe attractive. You could say she had a small crush on this man. Not that she would ever admit it out loud to him. "Please Professor Levi, you really should fix your habit of coming into the library before opening. My boss would throw a fit if she found out that someone was somehow getting into the library before we open. It will be troublesome for me if I get yelled at or lose my job." If it weren't for having to maintain appearances during the daytime, she could quickly resolve the issue by cutting off his legs or something to keep him perturbed but that simply wasn't an option, for more than the reason of keeping up appearances.[break]
He would laugh when he saw her blushing ”someones flustered, what you love me?” he teased smiling his devilishly handsome smile. ”Tell me do you dream of bloodshed?” He smiled at her ”Or do you just like danger?” he was just teasing her again. He then got up going over to her ”Well wouldn't want you to get fired then what reason would I have for sneaking in” he smiled. ”Oh and thank you for not kicking me, I know you could have” he smiled. ”Tell ya what i’ll show you the real me if you want, but first i came to donate this book”. It was filled with bloody wars. ”Now then are you ready, little mouse” as he liked to call her cause of her size.
Soon some curved horns grew from his head and large bat like wings came out from his back. They were lined black then the fleshy part of then was a purple plum kind of red color. ”You see I’m actually a demon” he smiled she was the first person he had told this to. ”That book you hold is for your eyes only it is everything there is to know about me my whole history. Even down to my real job” his words were still cold yet entrancing. Part of him loved talking this way for the fact some flustered at even the sound of his voice. But this girl there was something that he liked. He didn't know what it was but there was something different about her.. He hadnt the power to see souls like a reaper. But since he did work for the underworld he did have knowledge about souls. He had never felt one like hers before. He never even considered falling for any one soul. But her soul her presence it was like a drug to him, like a moth to a light. He couldn't help himself but get close to it. @rinny
[break]He commented teasingly on the fact she had blushed. Though she tried to ignore him, tuning him out. He seemed to have a knack for throwing her off her game and while she did not completely hate it, it did annoy her to a certain degree. She went back to working, while trying to ignore him, the next thing he said gave all her attention back to him. He offered to show her his real self which she couldn't pass on. Her eyes lit up with excitement. She was like a kid in a candy or toy store. He handed her the book he had been carrying, saying he wanted to donate it. Once it was in her hands, she looked back up as she saw a pair of curved horns appear up on the sides of his and large bat-like wings sprouted out of his back. Maria was in awe of his true form. She always had an inkling he might have not been a human but this was even more than she had been imagining. To think, Professor Levi was a demon. It was so incredible.[break]
[break]He told her the book he had given her was for her eyes only, that it had everything concerning his history, including his real job. She held the book up, excited to read it. Her eyes sparkling. She looked at him grateful but also a bit puzzled. Why would he show his true self to her? It didn't quite make sense to her. She wanted to ask him the reason but first, she thought she might as well respond in kind and show him her true form. "Since you showed me your true form, it would probably be rude to not do the same." She said as she took off her glasses and her golden eyes began to glow as her whole body began to turn transparent. Even her hair came undone. "My true name, is Maria LaFleur, I am a spirit that has roamed the world of the living for over a century since my death. The library may be my day job, but given my situation, I have a night job of sorts, though what I do is a secret~" She said with a smirk and her index finger in front of her mouth like she was telling him "shhh" A few seconds after, she returned to her previous non-transparent appearance, only part of her that did not revert was her hair. It was still down and untied. She crouched down to pick up her ribbon that had fallen to the floor when she changed. When she stood back up to face him, she had returned to her usual meek and polite self."I do need to ask you to put those horns and wings away to avoid frightening patrons who come to the library. If word gets to my human boss that a demon was in the library, things would be very troublesome for me.." She said as she turned and walked over to her desk with her ribbon and the book in hand. She needed to fix her hair before patrons started coming.[break]
”Well I didn't expect you to be a spirit, but I did sense something different about you,” he said as she mentioned the going back to the human form he shrugged and turned to normal. ”I can handle a human,” he said showing he was a bit on the conceded side. He smiled glad she liked the book ”whenever you need me just call while holding that book” he smiled as he had put a hex on it that would summon him. Soon he was gone for now. However, he would watch her protectively from the shadows. In the book, it told how he had been alive since the war. He had stopped aging when he was 28, and he was the right-hand demon of Zolo. He was the second highest rank demon.
Soon some random men walked in. Low-level demons that started ripping some of the books in the library as they all laughed. Levi would wait until he was needed. The men started throwing books and chairs breaking chairs. @rinny occ: the demons are npcs
[break]He wasn't too surprised by her true form but it seemed it was at the very least unexpected. Still, it felt nice that there was someone who knew her true form. He walked over to her desk as she was busy re-tying her hair, he placed some sort of spell on the front cover of the book he'd given her. He said anytime she needed him, call him while holding the book. Even though she was stone cold, she felt something warm well up from inside her. It was like he would be her knight in shinning armor like in those classic fairy tales she read when she was a child and still alive. However, she felt it might be a bit to presumptuous to think like that but either way, she was happy. Not too long after that, he left the library. Then a few patrons came into the library. Three full grown men. She nodded to them and welcomed them in but they paid her no mind. They just headed over to the nearest bookshelf. They started to grab books from the shelves but instead of reading them, they began to tear the books up with their bare hands. One of the men were throwing books about, and the other one was grabbing chairs and breaking them. Seeing this sight, Maria jumped up and felt herself fill up with the fires of rage. How could they do something so awful so easily? Knowing if she acted on her own, it would be bad. She then remembered Levi's words she grabbed the book she received from him, and shouted his name. All she could do was hope it wasn't some joke and that he really would come to her aid.[break]
Soon Levis presence was felt or at least the familiarity of him being there, was behind her. ”Told you” he whispered in her ear. As he walked up to the boys soon he had summoned two large tigers who attacked the men when they realized who he was and his rank above them they all went running. As the tigers chased them. He laughed at this ”Stupid boys” he said then he turned to the mess and started cleaning things up. ”Sorry about that low-level skum no wonder your boss doesn't like demons in the library.” He then gathered up all the books and pages he got out some tape and glue. He started reading each book trying g to fix the pages not wanting her in trouble. Then he would try to put them back in the right places. However, there wasn't much he could do with the chair. ”There hows that look?” he asked. The demon did actually look somewhat sleepy although he wouldn't admit it. Being who he was he was always on guard and hadn't slept for 4 whole days. @rinny
[break]It didn't take more than a few seconds for Levi to appear just behind her, out of thin air. He made quick work getting rid of the men making a mess of the library. After they ran out screaming like little girls. Levi began to clean up the mess they made. He put the torn books back together bit by bit with glue and tape. There wasn't much he could do about the broken chair but the fact he not only got rid of the troublemakers, he even was going as far to clean up their mess. She once again felt that warm sensation. She walked over to near him and started pick up the non-torn up books the one man had tossed about.[break]
[break]She had gathered the unharmed books and stacked them up on a nearby table. Then turned back to face Levi who wanted to check with Maria if he had put the books back together properly. Thankfully, there weren't too many that had been torn up. about 3 of them. She took them from him and inspected them. It seemed he had managed to fix them properly. The words lined up and were not off in the slightest. She was impressed to see the least, After placing the books on the same table next to the other stack, she looked up at Levi, with a bright smile on her face and slightly flushed cheeks said. "Thank you so much for all your help Professor Levi! You really came to my rescue! I'm not sure how I would have handled that if I were on my own." She was grateful but also noticed he looked a bit tired. Which made her worry.[break]
Levi smiled glad she seemed pleased of his work. ”As I said i will be there when you call for my help” he smiled. ”Unless im teaching class of course” he smiled. He noticed her cheeks flushed as he ran a finger down her cheek then backed off. ”Now whats that look of worry for?” she may not really be showing it but he had see worry on peoples faces in war so he knew the look well. Of course this wa just a guess. ”If it's about me I'm fine, no injuries” he smiled. There was something though something he wanted to do. The more he was near her the more strong the urge was but why. He then stepped closer running his hand to her chin lifting it up to look at him. The next thing he knew it he was kissing her. He felt something and even though it was only a few seconds it felt like something that was meant to be. He felt all his passion for her wanting her. Wanting to be near her. As he stepped back he had even been shocked at what he had just done. He hoped she wouldn't be mad. It was the first time he ever had wanted to kiss someone. @rinny
[break]After she thanked him, he began to stroke her flushed cheek with his finger. He then asked her why she looked worried. Was she showing it on her face? She didn't think so but still, he seemed to take notice of it. Before she could answer his question, he cut her off and said he was unharmed. Even though that wasn't the reason, she decided not to correct him. She still wondered why he did all this for her. Showing her his true form, giving her the book so she could learn all about him, putting that spell on it so he could come to her aid, and actually doing so. She couldn't seem to make sense of it all. While she was thinking about all that, next thing she knew, Levi had lifted her chin and kissed her. Maria was so shocked, but she felt part of her strength leave her body, as her arms fell to her sides and she closed her eyes. A few seconds passed and their lips parted. When they did, she opened her eyes and saw he had stepped and looked to be in shock of what he had just done.[break]
[break]Maria wondered if that meant he was regretting his actions just now. After all, whenever she was at the university campus and saw him, he was always surrounded by pretty female students and teachers. All wanting his attention. Maria never had much confidence in herself, even when she was alive. She had only done what she did for survival, and she never once had a boyfriend or fell in love when she was still one of the living. So she couldn't begin to comprehend why he would do something like kiss her out of the blue. She felt a tightness in her chest that was both very warm and yet cold at the same time. "Are you in shock because you regret it? I don't understand you professor Levi. Why do all these things for me? It makes me feel all confused and weird. I can't make any sense of it..." She said all this while looking down at her feet because after that kiss, she didn't know how to look him in the eye.[break]
"Why huh? Why do I do these things to tell you the truth even I don't know why. I have never been in love before however there is something about you something that keeps driving me to be closer to you. Is it love? I don't know for as I have said I have never felt that before. Do I regret it?" He thought carefully for a moment as he knew he didn't "No I just thought you might not like it and would slap me for it. I also backed up to try to make you feel less uncomfortable, but it would appear I failed at that" he said.As he drew in closer to her like he had when he had teased her. "However there is something about you, your smell your presence, your spirit that drives me closer" he said. "The thought of you getting hurt or being with anyone but I infuriate my very soul down to the core. That I have never felt before. So why do I do this thing perhaps it is because my deary. Perhaps I am in love with you” he made her look up at his eyes but then would back off again. ”Forgive me if you did not enjoy it” he said bowing slightly as he backed off. @rinny
[break]He answered her so straightforwardly. He also explained how he backed off to make her feel more comfortable and he looked to be in shock because he was worried she might have disliked it. As he explained things to her, the tightness in her chest seemed to loosen somewhat. When Levi told Maria he'd never been in love before now, it took Maria by surprise but also made her feel happy. Though she didn't quite understand why. Maybe it was because they were both new to these kinds of feelings? He drew in close to her and made her look up at him and admitted that he thought he might be in love with her but then quickly backed off again. He even bowed his head and apologized to her for it. Which caused her chest to tighten up once more.[break]
[break]Maria held her hands to her chested and clenched them tight before speaking. "I..liked it.." She said softly while blushing. "I have never once been in love, not even when I was alive. I was an orphan from the time I was an infant and I have always been on my own, from birth till death and up till now. I never was given the chance to know warmth or affection so I don't understand any of this either. I just know, that when I'm around you, I get this warm feeling in my chest despite the fact I'm a spirit and have no physical heart nor any body heat but, I want to understand it."[break]
He simply smiled when she got to the part about feeling something too. ”Then tell me is there anything you wanted to do? Anywhere were you wanted to go on one of those...” he thought for a moment what was it humans called it. ”I think a date is what they call it?” He asked as the tough demon thought for a moment as he blushed till he felt his cheeks get warm. ”What am I doing right now?” he asked having never blushed before. ”I guess what I am asking is would you do me the honor of taking you out on a date wherever you want to go just name it?” he said looking away blushing more. He had never blushed let alone asked a girl on a date before. @rinny
[break]After Maria told him how she felt, Levi asked her if there was anything she wanted to do or anywhere she wanted to go. It appeared he was asking her out on a date but he couldn't think of the word. Being a demon, that wasn't too surprising but knowing how popular he was with women, it was still a little surprising. She noticed him blush and ask himself what he was doing. He seemed embarrassed or flustered and didn't know why. He then asked her if she would go on a date with him. Her hunch had been right. She was overcome with joy but at the same time was feeling shy. All she could do was respond with a nod. She then closed the distance between the two and looked up at him. Even though her hunch had been right and he did ask her on a date. She still couldn't believe it. She overcome with so much joy. "Professor Levi, I have work until the weekend so we can't go out until then. Is that okay?"[break]
