Fights and power struggles were the daily - children left to fend for themselves the instant they could manage to make their own food. Cecilia was just another daughter who was scrutinized and abused - though she was often kept isolated from her older siblings. The more distant, independent, and free the older siblings became, the more risk she faced of becoming “poisoned” by their rebellions or mindsets. Cecilia was expected to stay within the family and improve it’s reputation. Rebellion or strayed interests were met with a firm, striking hand, manipulative counters, scathing words, or further isolation. Subservience to her parents went from a suggestion to a expectation the very instant that Chaerin slipped from their grasps. As her siblings before her, Cecilia suffered from the family’s turnoil. Schooling and activities from home became an escape, something to look forward to. She begged and begged for just one thing to be hers and hers alone, and by some miracle this was granted.
