Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
[attr="class","inner-finally"] The best part about working at night was that he didn't have to use his darkness manipulation to cover his tracks. He could move stealthily without anyone noticing him. And that is pretty much what he was here to do. His latest contract had him on intel gathering. An underground business deal was going down, and there was an interested third party. Who wanted all the details. Who was involved, why, what "side" each player belonged on, what goods were being traded... all the typical information underground brokers were interested in. If people could get their hands on something valuable, and sell it at a higher price than the person it was "borrowed" from, people usually would try. And Ky was usually the middle man. Because he covered his own tracks, thusly covering the tracks of his contractors. And Ky's number one rule was not to ask questions that weren't directly related to his task. Thus he never questioned the motives of individuals.
He was pretty good at guessing them though, most wanted the same thing. Money. Power. Control. The three biggest criminal motivators. And Ky fell into the first. He had rent and bills to pay, and while his job was questionable, his morals to society were not. He was a simple demon making his way in life. Probably why he was never really caught. His name was out on the street, along with his occupation. Anybody who knew anybody would have at least heard his name. And he never really hid the fact. So his freedom was probably attributed to the fact that he was casual and most thought he wqs a joke.
Whatever. It suited him just fine. It made his work easier, as he was less likely to be targeted. But with tensions in the air as it was, he was probably the least of the authorities problems. He moved between buildings, tracking his target. He had spent the last week setting everything up to work in his favour. Information hunting, pretending to be one of the guys on the other side. He just needed to see this deal change hands and report back to his contract and see if further hunting was required. This was one of those jobs where the period of the contract was indeterminate, but that just meant he could charge more. He had tracked his target to an underground shopping mall carpark, where they waited. Both target and targeter. Ky kept to the shadows and he too was waiting.

18 year old Mikaela Lye had practically grown up cloaked in the shadows of hidden back alleys, escaping view while taking in every detail of her surroundings. While other children had been sitting through classes on reading and making friends or whatever, she had been taught to blend in, to match her environment no matter what the situation called for. And the darkness that provided so many criminals a false sense of security were her natural hunting grounds. [break][break] It scared her how much more she thrived in the criminal underbelly of the city than anywhere else. When she’d come to Canada she’d been serious about getting a fresh start and keeping her hands clean, and yet here she was three months later, silently trailing a target at a safe distance to let him lead her to his shady deal.
[break][break]
The last time she’d attended one of these it hadn’t gone well and she’d barely gotten out without being seen, but this one promised to be a simple, almost boring job. About five minutes before he actually arrived at the destination Mikaela decided she knew well enough where the lamb was going and split off from him to scout out the area.
[break][break]
The empty parking lot had a lot of open space, which meant the radius where threats could lie in wait was larger. She didn’t really think this sort of deal was large enough that either parties would have brought back up, but she scouted the perimeter anyway. It was simple enough to remain hidden behind bushes and shadows as she silently scouted around.
[break][break]
Out of the corner of her eye she caught a dark form within the shadows that held her attention. Her hand slid down to a knife sheathed at her side and she took comfort in the cool metal at her palm, even if she had no intention of using it before she had a better grasp of the situation. Her lamb had appeared in the parking lot, but hadn’t actually stepped out into the open to address the other person waiting yet. Not that he was half as good at stealth as he though he was.
[break][break]
She kept an eye on the two lambs as she stalked a bit closer to this mysterious third party. Based on his position she doubted he was at the other end of the deal about to go down, so was he an ambush or was she dealing with another spy? He didn’t look like a very good ambush, but she knew better than to judge based on appearances and if anything got in the way of this deal she knew she’d get in trouble for it.
[break][break]
”You’re early,” she drawled in her thick Italian accent. She made sure to pitch her voice low enough that it wouldn’t carry across the parking lot. ”The mall doesn’t open for another few hours. I mean that shoe sale sounds great but you could get hurt being out alone at night, coniglio” Her voice dripped with sweet condescension, knowing if this man was a spy he wouldn’t risk raising his voice to snap back. Whether there was actually some sort of sale at the mall or not was beside the point.
[attr="class","inner-finally"] The underworld never really bothered him. He had a good 500 years under his belt. Lots of practice. Lots of mistakes. Lots of losses. That didn't make apathetic or detached. He still had attachments. He still had emotiona and empathy. He was a demon, not a robot. Despite the fact he literally operated on a "deal with the devil" basis quite literally. So he knew that his vantage point was one of the better ones. He was also aware of any lurking shadows. Due to the open space, threats could be anywhere, and he wasn't so stupid that he'd be so invested that it left him open. He noticed that the other party was yet to reveal himself to the first. What was he waiting for? An invitation?
He knew this was typical of some. Some would wait a few moments to ensure there were no tricks. No surprises. Nothing that could send the deal south. It also gave an opening to escape if there were unwanted surprises. But he wondered if they ever realised that there was more lurking in the shadows than just the problems with each other. Himself for example. And Ky wasn't the only one, which was made clear when movement followed by a voice came from beside him. He couldn't help it, he smirked at her words. And replied without missing a beat, "But I'm just dying to try on the new flat combats they're selling." He in turn, kept his voice down as he looked at her.
"Take it you're not a fan. If you were, you'd have thrown me into view." He went back to watching the meeting. The second party having finally stepped into view to meet the first. "I'm not your enemy, and I doubt your mine. I'm only interested in watching this go through and reporting back to my contractor. I'd rather not waste time nor energy fighting. Mentally or physically." He changed vantage point, moving further around to circle them. One had a briefcase. The other had a package. A cardboard box. Not the most inconspicuous way to handle an underground deal. Ky had seen better attempts. He had also seen worse. But a job was a job, he supposed. As long as it got done without interferring parties. He wasn't planning on doing anything, but he didn't know about his own surprise guest.
Still. He may not have wanted to waste energy, but if he had to in order to see this through, he would. He would do what he could to keep the girl from interferring.

Mikaela’s lips quirked into a half smile at his comeback. If they weren’t potentially enemies she would enjoy the banter. It was so hard to find anyone with good humour and all her best ‘buddies’ we’re back in Italy. As it was, she weighed the strangers words, scanning his face for any signs that he was lying. There were no typical tells, but that didn’t necessarily make them allies. She had the tendency not to trust people, especially when they showed up where they shouldn’t be, admitted to working for someone, and acted like there was no reason for them to be anything but friends. Besides, it wasn’t like she was here on her own behalf. The Ravagers had specifically assigned her this job and the only time she was really serious about anything was when she was on a job. She hadn’t been told whether this information was the type they were ok with others getting their hands on. [break][break] She scowled, taking a few steps to follow him as he shifted his position. She had planned to shift and maybe ‘get stuck in a tree’ where she could see everything she needed without straining her eyes. No one would be suspicious of a sleepy cat. But with this added complication she couldn’t leave him unwatched. In the flash of a moment she decided he couldn’t be trusted. She’d play along, but she didn’t trust the man she’d followed not to be a backstabbing scumbag if he thought he wouldn’t get his way. [break][break] ”And after the deal goes down you don’t plan to, say, shoot one guy, take their baggage, and run off to the shoe sale with that fancy new blood money?” she asked, staying very aware of how loud she could talk without it carrying to the lambs. Even if she didn’t know them she didn’t really want to see either of them dead. They had begun their negotiations and while the target facing her had been the one she followed she wasn’t at the right angle to make out the face of the other. She’d have to circle around later, she’d been told to figure out specifically who had been sent to do the dirty work. For now it would be safer to stay close to the unexpected party so if he did have his own agenda she had a chance to stop him.
[attr="class","inner-finally"] He was met with cynicism. Of course he knew he would have been. This was the first time in a long while he had crossed paths with another spy on the same job. Still she divided her attention. If she was to get the information she needed, she should be focusing on the people. And deal with him after. Even if he was going to do something, there is always a window of opportunity. Though to be fair, he was doing the same, having let his thought's stray like that. He needed to focus on them. But she spoke again. He looked at her and raised an eyebrow with a grin. "Does it look like I'm carrying a weapon? Let alone have anywhere to hide one? And if I was going to do that, pretty sure I would have done so by now. Both already on the ground dead. No need to wait for the goods to change hands." He shrugged.
He moved to a vantage point where they could see both faces of the criminals. The deal was partway done. They were discussing the particulars of the goods. Some sort of drug to enhance the natutal abilities of regular humans. Ky didn't realise there was advancement of this level. That could be dangerous. He furrowed his brows as he thought. But he wasn't there to interfere. He was there to watch. What criminals did outside of this was not his business. He just needed the information. And he had gotten the information he needed. Now it was time for him to look for a way to leave.

Mikaela smirked at Ky’s seemingly obvious logic which did nothing to convince her he wasn’t planning something that would get in her way. He didn’t look like he had any weapons, but neither did she and she never went anywhere unarmed. And just because he hadn’t jumped out yet didn’t mean he wasn’t going to. Or perhaps he had concealed motives of another sort. Perhaps he was there to pay attention to who else was watching the situation. If he was and he managed to recognise her that could get the Ravagers in a bit of trouble. [break][break] She shadowed Ky as he began moving, her own footsteps as silent as a wraith. The new vantage point solved her problem of not being able to see the other man’s face, but unfortunately she didn’t immediately recognise him. They were still discussing the product being exchanged which held no interest to Mikaela. They could be trading nuke codes for cotton candy and Mikaela wouldn’t care. It wasn’t her job to care about the specifics. [break][break] As they continued blabbering on Mik shook her head in frustration. "Idioti," she cursed under her breath. The deal was almost done and they still hadn’t naturally dropped all the information she wanted from them. If only she could interact with them, then she’d really be able to get them screaming. [break][break] The deal was starting to come to a close and Mikaela’s mind wandered to her next decision - follow the unknown dealer or stay and question the spy. She really couldn’t risk letting either unknown party get away entirely but who would be easier to track down? [break][break] "Stick around a bit longer, would you?" she asked. Between the threat in her voice and the knife she pulled from a hidden sheath she felt certain there was enough threat in her posture to suggest that it wasn't a mere request. She wasn't about to take her eyes off the exchange, but her hearing was tuned into the other spy’s movements, ready to react if he ignored her. [break][break] The plan forming in her mind was slightly insane, but the line between recklessness and getting the job done right was her personal favourite. She just needed them to actually finish talking and begin heading off in different directions first.
