cecil jackson tell me reality is better than a dream. general info
appearance At a shorter-than-average-height of 5’6”, Cecil has been gifted with a petite frame. The Jacksons were never known for their height and he represents those characteristics. Almost as though expected of a young warlock, Cecil is a slender-build man. He leans further to the skinner side of the spectrum. His stomach is flat, the state of his muscle-lacking torso making it obvious Cecil is far from being considered “built”. His body has willowy limbs, making his arms slim and of little presence. A semi-tanned complexion covers Cecil, solely from spending a few hours reading outside for the purpose of fresh hair. A majority of his body is unscathed, the most prominent being the harsh scar on his face. His fingers are average size, being slender and somewhat feminine in appeal. His nails are well-maintained due to being someone who dislikes the long nail aesthetic. Placed on his soft-featured face is a marking of which attracts the attention of all individuals. The young man’s left eye has been brutally scarred by the cursed flames of his father’s experimentation. The skin there is darker, taking on a reddish undertone, most notably around the eye. Miraculously, Cecil’s left eye has been spared from the cruel fate of blinding. Alas, the scar reaches around to his ear, the left being partially deaf. With this, people can still notice the soft curves of high, well-filled cheeks. They lead down into a slender jawline and a gently curved chin. Dark locks of semi-long hair flows from his head, reaching down to the nape of his neck. The bangs drift into his eyes, however, the hair leads into a V shape in the middle of his hair. Regularly, Cecil’s hair is in a messier style. From his dark locks shines gorgeous amber coloured eyes. Vibrant against the darker drifts of his hair. Anything remotely skimpy is completely avoided by Cecil. Never has he possessed particular confidence in natural appearance. Therefore, Cecil values temperature regulating charms and prefers long-sleeved shirts. He finds them comfortable and will oftentimes wear a slightly larger long-sleeved shirt to hide his hands inside it. He accomplishes similar with sweaters and hoodies, always finding it an additional comfort. Similarly, he prefers pants over shorts, attempting to pick pants as often as possible. Occasionally, Cecil will wear a short-sleeved shirt, but never goes into wearing a tank top or anything exposing his shoulders. He prefers comfortable, light-weighted shoes. In winter he loves thick jackets and enjoys wrapping a scarf around him. personality
abilities Tome Magic -- Advanced The ability to use a tome to accomplish various magic. As someone who craved his father’s attention for years, Cecil trained himself hard in tome magic. Generally, Cecil is excellent in his tome magic; there are instances where he has little ability. He gains the following abilities: force fields (advanced), telekinesis (advanced), future sight (intermediate), seance (beginner/unused), minor fire manipulation (beginner/unused), minor air manipulation (advanced), minor water manipulation (advanced), minor earth manipulation (advanced), teleportation (intermediate), hypnosis (beginner/unused), illusion creation (advanced), make wards (advanced), and telepathy (advanced). Frequently, Cecil’s magic usages are dependent on his personal comforts and morals. Fire manipulation is among the many unused pieces of tome magic. If he attempted it, Cecil would risk randomly starting fires from it. Meanwhile, seances tend to disturb Cecil, thus he refuses to use the ability entirely. Meanwhile, hypnosis derives from a moral standpoint. Future sight occasionally fails to work even with his Latin words and regularly drains him. Even then only providing a 10 second clip. Teleportation is an ability Cecil is still working on and can cause him to feel tired when overused. In addition, there needs to be two teleportation circles, one where he plans on teleporting and one where he is teleporting from. Through hard work, Cecil managed to get marvellous control over a majority of his abilities. His force fields are depending on size for effectiveness. Smaller shields being more dense and larger ones taking up more area, but losing the density. Telekinesis is accomplished for more mundane uses such as grabbing his pencil, however, he is unable to speed up or slow down the object as of current. The remainder of his minor elemental manipulation is used more are parlor tricks, such as using his tome magic to make designs or play around with small sectors. He can manipulate nothing large of these elements, however, he can make wind push someone away from him. Illusion creation is similarly used for small displays seeing as it lasts a maximum of a few minutes. Occasionally, he uses this during presentations to add some extra zest to his information. Massive illusions are beyond Cecil and something he never uses because of lack of requirement. Wards get the more frequent traction in Cecil’s variety of tome related abilities with him regularly using it to create calming areas rather than keep people out. These wards are more designed to ward away negative emotions rather than certain species. Finally, telepathy, an ability Cecil uses as a “cellphone” rather than anything substantial. He already has to speak latin to his tome to activate the ability, therefore, he rarely uses it for secret telling unless it is something he refuses to say out loud. As expected of a warlock, Cecil requires being versed well in Latin to use his abilities and needs his tome by his side, else he faces the grim repercussions of his actions. These repercussions have risks of killing Cecil. He finds himself too frightened to even attempt because of these ramifications. No matter what, Cecil will feel his energy lower each time he uses tome magic, obsessive usage even leaving him exhausted and requiring a nap before he uses more. With the Latin words, should he stumble or pause, the magic can risk being cancelled. Charms -- Advanced The ability to create charms to make people more comfortable, however, these are passive effects. Charms is the ability that makes Cecil the most happy. He adores using his magic to make little charms for himself or others. Commonly, he will make temperature regulating or charms designed to influence calmness. Occasionally, he will create good luck charms, however, these effects are minimal. For example, they may narrowly avoid slipping on ice or stumbling on their feet. This charm is unable to function from a battle standpoint, action seemingly being too much happening for the magic to keep up. He is even capable of making charms to help keep away sickness. In a single day, Cecil can create approximately 5 charms. After this his energy will be drained and he would require sleep. Curses -- Beginner/Unused The ability to curse objects, people and places. The scar Cecil has is derived from cursed flames. Out of fear of hurting others or facing jail time, Cecil refuses to use curses. He would not even consider touching a cursed object or going anywhere near one. If he attempted, his curses would be mostly ineffective. At most perhaps causing someone to stub their toe. Potion Making -- Advanced The ability create potions and salves. In an attempt to gain his father’s attention, Cecil learned the ability. This being said, he enjoys creating potions to assist others. For their home, Cecil makes homemade potions and salves to help with disinfecting, healing and various other functions. He finds creating his own brew is less expensive than buying pharmaceuticals, thus he maintains it through his brewings. At times he will make special potions meant to soothe people with a single drink, but this is rare. Mass potion making will make Cecil become tired and require sleep. Alchemy -- Intermediate The ability to accomplish transmutation. In short, if Cecil gives something he is capable of making something else. Regularly, he does equivalent exchange for more of curiosity rather than anything. Occasionally he attempts it, getting incorrect things, but sometimes getting it right. It is an ability Cecil requires more practice in and one he hopes to gain more mastery in solely from curiosity. He is capable of one to two alchemy attempts per day due to his low control over it. Afterwards, he will start nodding off a bit, thus he usually practices a little before bed. Voodoo -- Beginner/Unused The ability to control people with the use of dolls. As one against morally negative actions, Cecil refuses to learn voodoo. He fears possible charges from the law, thus he never uses the ability. If he tried, it would tire him quickly. backstory Trigger Warning: Mention of Burn Injury In an evening of passion narrowly gained by his mother from his father, Alyssa Fontaine was fortunate to become pregnant by her husband, Francis. It was a fact hidden after nine months of carrying the child who would become known as Cecil Fontaine. For years, Alyssa craved a child to tend to and shower with her seemingly endless love. At heart, she was a mother searching for that special little purpose. She doted on Cecil, accomplishing the basic tasks a mother does. At times, it would leave Cecil to wonder how his now single mother managed to love his father. Well she was a woman brimming with affection and care for her family, Cecil’s father was better defined as different. He never raised a hand in anger or spouted words of discouragement, however, the man was absent. Rather than shower Cecil in attention, the man spent a majority of time inside the basement, accomplishing his experiments. It left Cecil a curious child, interested in the actions of his absent father. Yet, the man always exhibited curiosities in his magic studies. To Francis, the world of magic was something enchanting and deserving of endless amounts of attention being delved into it. The research he accomplished seemingly outweighed the worth of the child his wife birthed. The research became his true child and he, the attentive father nourishing its every need. The neglect was hastily noticed and somewhat disparaging as the young boy began vying for his father’s gaze. For his praise and attention. Mother showered him in plenty, but nothing could replace an absent father figure. Everything Cecil desired was to gain a connection between himself and his father. As the young boy entered elementary school, those wishes were only requested more. Witnessing individuals who gleefully spent time with their father’s. Their smiles are broad and shining with beautiful happiness. The young warlock wanted something similar, to enjoy the marvelous reverie of a doting father. He began trying harder to gain the desired attention of his father. At times he hastily scurried down the stairs before his mother knew to shout at dad to play with him or at least something. However, every time he attempted, he was ignored or received a firm “Back upstairs, Cecil” in a grumbled voice. His hopes were always dashed by disappointment as his father seemingly shoved him away. Although, Cecil’s plans began shifting as he grew older and realized what his father wanted. He wanted to explore magic and understand it further, thus it began. There were warlock teachers and his mother and soon they knew Cecil as the child who pleaded to learn Latin and tome magic. Through his youth, Cecil worked, ignoring his classmates and becoming the over-achieving loner. Manifesting those long-lasting connections were impossible as his mind shifted to thoughts of gaining his father’s eye. He practiced magic, kept his grades to a frightful level and tried proving himself at every turn. The mysterious man of the basement was somebody he wanted to receive the gaze of. Little had Cecil known his mother began picking up on the attention of his learning. In the evenings, she would approach her husband and beg with him to spend more time with his son. The attempts of Cecil being noted as toll-taking on the child’s social development. Yet he would not listen and eventually the fighting between the couple began when Cecil was 12. Through it all, Cecil was distanced from his classmates. He became an introverted adolescent struggling to forge those key connections with others. Rather, he became someone delicate to criticism and awkward in social practice. A timid, young teen lacking the needed building blocks to make connections in the social jungle of high school. He became somebody riddled with anxieties and the target of bullying. He merely pretended everything was alright... This was all in the greater goal of finally getting his father’s attention... It was everything Cecil craved since his childhood and he kept clinging to those hopes. Thus he pushed on without a second thought. Every piece of time Cecil had was delved into his studies, personal and school related. He avoided extracurriculars, believing the socialization from them useless. At 15, Cecil was considered a prodigy of sorts. Someone well-versed in magic and Latin, but somebody further viewed as a lame brainiac. Alas, none of it mattered for the young man believed he would finally earn the favour of his father. The enigmatic man of the basement slaving away over his experiments and valuing the furtherment of magic knowledge. On the day he felt most confident, he descended the old stairs of their family home for the final time. There stood Francis, lightly bearded and thin as his best descriptors meddling with a flame coated torch. A child vying heavily for his father’s attention approached from behind to see the dancing flames licking to the ceiling. Amazement on his face he watched, failing to announce his presence to the man holding what Cecil thought was a normal torch. ”It was an accident… I swear it was… I never told him I was in the room.” The dancing flames were memorizing as his amber eyes stared in delight. Abruptly, his father had turned, triumphant about his newest creation! A thing capable of bringing people to their knees and writhing in pain… then he bumped into his son. Startled by the sudden hit to the chest, the torch fell, brandished like a weapon, and burnt whatever it touched… Down Cecil’s face, licking over his soft, teenage features. All he remembered was screaming, the sound resonating through the house. The blurred noises of his mother’s worry followed by the sounds of phone dial. The sounds of endless apologies leaving his father’s lips as he realized the gravity of his actions. The ringing of his own pained screams. His father’s panic as she explained the gruesome situation to the dispatcher between choking upset. GET AN AMBULANCE! MY SON HAS BEEN BURNED! Everything passed in a blur after the seering pain across his face. The sounds of sirens echoing in his ears and the hasty manner they handled the weakened teen. The bustling of medical doctors bringing him aid and accomplishing examinations of the severe burns across his face. They medicated him, giving him pain killers and anything to soothe the burning injury across his face. The adjusted things, keeping his injured eye closed and wrapping the left side of his face. When the moment finally arrived when he could visit his parents, Cecil’s injured face drew what surprise it could. There she stood, dressed in the same clothes from the day, tears of worry shining in her eyes and haste in her steps as she approached her son. She inquired about how he was doing, held his hand, told him everything would be alright and the doctors would help him… however… ”Where’s dad?” “Cecil… I’m sorry… dad was arrested… what he burned you with... was cursed.” “Oh…” Recovery began slowly as Cecil realized the deplorable actions of his father. The man he once sought constant attention from was a villain dressed as a sheep… He would be lying if he said it failed to leave him with anxiety. The thought of being fooled again created a constant pressure on his mind. During his recovery, Cecil was homeschooled for a time. It became his mother’s way of easing him back into studies and keeping him out of the questionable social climate of school. He kept up with his studies while gripping with the terms of his father's actions. Through the year, he kept himself fixated on his future, but rarely left home. Insecurity was a wolf to Cecil, haunting over his shoulders, fangs dripping with long tendrils as it waited to view him at his weakest. As he healed, his mother started making the needed arrangements to return him to school, which he anxiously waited for. He would never forget the fall when he returned, sixteen and scarred. It felt like everybody was staring at him, and even as his intellect held firm, he grew anxious and insecure about his grades. Those emotions existed despite being accepted into a tutoring program to assist other students with their struggling grades. Yet, through the program he met someone who assisted in the positive surfacing. Initially, Jace was merely another student he was expected to assist. Yet, through those days they spent together, Cecil helping him learn, he started pining for him. The man had an excellent influence on Cecil’s life and for once, he felt he could breath calmness. By the start of summer, the pair were dating, Cecil enamoured with the man who paid him mind. Jace gave him compliments, affection and things he never dreamed of. It strengthened his security and powered his lips into a smile. As they entered another school year, particularly their final, Cecil found himself more hopeful about the future. misc Likes: Marshmallows, learning, history, chips, fish, charms, sleeping in, soft blankets, cats, reading, researching, drawing, sweaters, board games, butterflies, watching clouds, flowers, dark chocolate, snuggies, lofi hiphop music, peaceful areas Dislikes: Sports, extreme heat, lavender scents, mashed potatoes, stiff pillows, lonesomeness, heavy metal music, burnt scents, jewelry, getting lost, large dogs, spicy candies, cigarettes Fears: Fire, being arrested, failure, spiders, getting lost in crowds, curses - He loves marshmallows that have a golden outside with a soft crunch. - Notably, Cecil is prone to being a little tense around matches and campfires.
