loik ackerman tell me reality is better than a dream. general info
appearance At a stature of 5’7”, Loik is best described as not intimidating by any means. He is a little short, although surprisingly muscular as a result of his occupation. He is well-built, slender muscles hiding beneath his clothing. He exercises regularly to maintain his strength, allowing him to assist others with ease. As a result, Loik has a pleasantly sculpted body. He is elegant and graceful, his lean muscles allowing him to be rather eye-catching in terms of appearance. His body is proportional, and well chiselled. He has a fair complexion, void of most blemishes, although, not flawless. From practicing combat, he has pale scars covering his knuckles, although these are only noticed under close examination. The most prominent of his scars consists of a large one near the lower left side of his abdomen. This scar is rather noticeable despite the injury being healed with the assistance of magic. It appears to be from a deep wound, the scar even possessing a slight indentation only noticeable if someone were to run their fingers over the spot. He frequently keeps the scar covered up so nobody can see it. When it comes to his face, Loik maintains his rather attractive title in the manner he tends to his hair and other features. He has high cheekbones, albeit, not overly prominent, allowing his face to appear rather smooth. Similar to the remainder of his body, his face has slender features, allowing Loik to maintain his thin and graceful appearance. His cheeks lead down into a pointed chin, making the shape of his face akin to an almond. His eyes are rather ravishing, being a unique, faint violet colour with slight hints of red which makes them pop. They are frequently captivating, a lot of Loik’s emotions being captured in his eyes opposed to his expression. His eyes have been known to take on a redder tinge when Loik uses his abilities. Often he will try to pull off a messier appearance with his hair, but this is oftentimes when he is wearing casual or semi-formal attire. Sometimes he will brush it back, but it has been years since he maintained this style. His hair is black in colour, which he maintains. With clothing, Loik is best described as diverse with having no real preferences or requirements. Under most circumstances, he is seen in his EMS uniform for his paramedic services, although, off hours he is known for his variety of appearances. He tends to stick with formal or semi-formal attire since he adores the clean, crisp charm he can be provided as a result. Oftentimes, he prefers clothing which allows him to keep his charm, and being a “nobleman” of sorts leads to his belief he could provide a charming disposition in that manner. On some occasions he will wear more casual attire, although, under most circumstances this is for when he exercises or is simply going shopping for groceries. These are also used as work clothes for outside jobs to avoid his favoured attire from getting damaged. On lazier days, Loik would also be more prone to wearing casual wear since it is comfier for relaxing. personality
abilities Dream Manipulation -- Mastered Nightmares, an excellent source of food for the boogeyman and a more inconspicuous way to feed. While Loik, unlike most dream manipulators, cannot bring harm when entering a dream, he can bend the reality of it to cause fright. He is unable to physically harm another individual unless he enters a dream of different ruling. He tends to avoid causing physical harm, oftentimes opting for brief mental harm to feed. He is adept in dream manipulating, changing things to locate the fear in his victim. While he uses it less nowadays, he is still capable. Although, throughout his dream manipulation, Loik’s real body is left without a defense as he delves into feeding his hungered body. Furthermore, Loik tends to sleep deeper whenever he is manipulating dreams, leaving him difficult to wake. Despite his harmlessness, Loik’s dreamscape can change to someone else's rules if he invades another dream manipulator’s realm. Meaning he can be harmed if he chooses unwise battles. Similar to bad dreams, Loik can be warded away with the use of a dreamcatcher. Similarly, mental blocks can keep Loik away from a person’s dreams. Illusion Manipulation -- Mastered The ability to manipulate illusions, allowing the user to fool another individual’s senses. In the times of old, Loik was a frightful lord with illusions backing his every move. A master of deception, frightening those who dared opposed him. Once he could use illusions for trickery to dispose of his enemies with little effort or thought. An illusion to hide his location, another to deceive, some to cause mental trauma. Oh as a lord, he revelled in his actions to manifest mental toxicity. Alas, Loik has shifted the purpose of his illusion manipulation, making him nearly indistinguishable from the man he was. Nowadays, his illusions are used for tricks and entertainment for his son and others. Occasionally, Loik may use them to create a defensive measure should a field situation be pressing. Those with enhanced senses or a type of clairvoyance are capable of seeing through his illusions because of their superior senses. While his mastery may cause some issues, it can nonetheless occur. Furthermore, his illusions are incapable of causing physical pain to another individual. Curses -- Intermediate The ability to inflict a curse of someone or something. On people this could potentially result in them becoming an undead and on weapons, it can make the victim of said weapon unable to heal via magic. Once fueled by the requirement to stand among his so-called throne, Loik could have manifested a frightful curse. The type people dreaded as a burden upon their once blissful lives. Alas, Loik’s out of practice for years, leaving him more incapable than expected of a 3000 year old boogeyman. He can create small curses, meagre burdens if anything. The likelihood of someone stubbing their toe could be increased or some minimal bad luck. Never is it anything particularly extreme since he became unpracticed. Regularly, his curses now last a few hours, making them no long-term threat. Fortunately for some, Loik gave up maintaining the ability and allowed it to remain unpracticed. Someone needs to be a good role-model for his precious son! Fear Inducement -- Advanced The ability to inspire fear in the heart of another individual. Frequently, Loik will activate this ability when desperate for something to feast on or as an intimidation tactic. By inducing fear on another individual, the person begins to find Loik as horrifying. The exerted pressure from it can linger if Loik makes the inducement intense. From an intimidation standpoint, Loik uses it during stressful situations where they are required to rescue someone in a tense situation. The intensity of Loik’s fear inducement depends heavily on the individual. The more cowardly may start trembling or face mental ramifications while the more courageous may get merely stunned from the sudden emotion. There are people capable of fighting through Loik’s fear inducement, particularly the brave of heart or those with mental blocks. Naturals: Night Vision, Self-Sustenance, Immortality backstory Born in a small town in England, Loik was the son of a farmer and his wife. Their family was poor, merely owning an tiny plot of land and hardly had the tools to educate young Loik. Instead, he was taught in their knowledge of farming, the young boy learning about the various animals on the farm and about crops; they expected Loik to follow in their steps as did he. There was little he could accomplish without a stunning education, fighting skills or various other resources, thus he accepted the notion laid in his blood. By birthright, he would inherit a piece of the farm and hopefully expand upon it; he accepted this at a mere 8. He loved his parents, the pair always making learning fun and easily being able to convince their son to come and help with farm chores. While the work was hard, Loik thought nothing of it. Compared to most families, the Ackermans were bizarre considering they would farm in the evenings and would hide during daylight. Furthermore, they were known to stalk people during the evenings to startle them, but the reasons were unknown to the rest of the village. In reality, they were feeding their appetite to avoid the painful death of starvation. The Ackermans had a strict boogeyman gene, thus they frequently needed to spark fear in others to avoid the possibility of death. These nightly stalkings allowed them to get pure fear from their target’s paranoia, allowing them to feel energized from it. They were outcasts among the general populace as a result, although, fear caused wild things to transpire. During their meetings in daylight on a pleasant fall morning, abrupt accusations towards the Ackermans intending to cannibalize their fellow man or desiring to taste the devil’s fruit by performing other vile crimes during the evening. They were bothered by the stalking, the watching and their strange working time; they suspected evil. It took more days of handling the creepy behaviours of the Ackermans until finally, the villagers snap. Torches and pitchforks were grabbed, a mob advancing on the small farmhouse were the Ackermans lived. They were dressing to face the harsh cold of the evening weather when his father glanced out and noticed the advances of a large flame. His parents were uncertain, keeping their son inside while they discussed what they could do. The father paused as he watched before turning to his wife with a grim face, he gestured to the back door, explaining he wanted her and Loik to leave now. They bickered over the notion, Loik’s mom refusing to leave his father until it was too late. Torches were thrown high over the house, the flames starting to light their meagre shack, there was not much time left. His parents cursed before his mother led young Loik to the back door and told him to run. Their son needed to flee while they held the villager’s attention, all in hopes he would manage to live in the harsh winter condition. Despite his fear, Loik gave his mother a brave face before running out into the snow. The young boy was quick and smart, taking the old cattle trails and hunting trails his father and other hunters used. Even as the crackling of flames and shouts of mobs dissipated, he kept running, refusing to stop in fear his life could be ended. He proceeded deep into the depths of the nearby forest, far into the treeline throughout the early hours of night and simply pushed himself to keep going. He was uncertain what became of his parents, but as he grew exhausted and his legs began to buckle beneath him, he presumed they were dead. There were tears and soft sobs, but the boy forced himself up, wiping the tears away with his scarf before pushing himself forward. He was exhausted, hungry for the bits of fear his parents and himself gathered during the night. Eventually, the young boy collapsed in the snow, unable to proceed farther and slipped into unconsciousness from his exhaustion. He thought the harsh conditions would claim his life, but somebody found him. By the next evening, Loik woke in a rather lavish home where he was laid upon blankets. Later into the evening, a well-dressed man entered, a large grin across his lips. His appearance made it easy for the young boy to deduce that this individual possessed important ties considering his excellent look, but looked as though he never worked a job in his life. The man was nobility, the lord over a small town miles away from where Loik was raised. He explained he could take Loik in, since the man died an early death to the hands of poison, he could not sire a son or even a daughter to take his place. Thus where Loik became a useful tool to carve his future. Hungry, afraid and wishing to survive longer, Loik agreed. A large grin touched the Lord’s lips, and thus it began. From accepting a position as a Lord’s son, Loik was provided an incredible education and given a brand new life. Unlike the difficult life of a farmer, the qualities of lordship were beyond different, the years of farming seemingly useless. The boy struggled with the material, but eventually, he began comprehending the books and readings they taught. His new father would take him on trips around town, his imposing figure sparking the fear Loik required to feed on. The young boy was pampered beyond expectation, which he enjoyed every precious second of. His iron-fisted nobleman of an adopted father passed those values along, training the young boy to grow in strength. These behaviours would be cultivated and as the time arrived for Loik to take the mantle, he was a vindictive force. He controlled his noble lands under the memories of how he was treated before, leaving a hatred in his heart. As time drifted by, his adopted father left his grounds entirely in Loik’s hands to pursue a longtime goal. Through those years, Loik became a hated force among the people under his control. Memories of fire and smoke tainted his heart with a hefty sense of vindictiveness and he proved it with treatment. His bias towards those who wronged them when they ventured to the town made him something fierce... but also something unwanted. Over the centuries, he cultivated this intense hatred amidst his people. They were a pot bound to boil over, and the War of Traitors was the breaking point. The discourse began with the duality as people took their respective sides and in a town of primarily Heaven species, the Hell species noble was bound to be shoved out in the middle of it all. Weeks into the War of Traitors, they arrived at the manor doors with torches and fire. The guards merely allowed them in, fed up with Loik’s behaviour. On that eve, Loik fought for his life, slipping out a back window. Through the snow, down old cattle trails just as before, but there was no mother or father to distract them. They eventually cause up, battering a bruising nobleman who lacked the ability to defend against the small army of civilians. A sword carved into his abdomen, the lower portion on the left side. He tumbled, injured by their actions and unable to move after the actions committed upon him. They kicked at him, attacked him and left him in the snow, lip split and bleeding out. Once again, he thought he would freeze over and finally feel death claim him, but benevolence comes from unexpected places. she was the gentle touch, the soft words, the one who broke through your hardened shell. Bleary eyed, they opened, the sounds of humming reaching his ears, faint, but noticeable. Wrapped around his abdomen were bandages, any other wound neatly tended to and prepared for healing. The betrayed nobleman was bewildered by the warm blankets, his position by a heating fire. From his position he saw her, those gorgeous locks of hair on a slender body. Through his days of unconsciousness, she tended to her, and as she turned, she smiled like pure sunshine. She informed him he required more rest, and he agreed. Over the days, he tried to receive her attention, talking with her and becoming closer. With every day, their hearts drew closer and eventually, the pair were an item. Through the remainder of the War of Traitors, Loik was quiet, being healed physically and mentally by the woman who saved him. Her name was Minerva. They were Hell species, hiding from the world that seemingly wished to dispose of them. When the war subsided, they left the safety of their small home, taking time to travel the world, love festering between them. Every evening, he called her beautiful, every day he informed her he loved her. Alas, the winds of Loik’s rocky past always haunted them as they explored Europe. The Cruel Lord, it was everything he knew before she met her and was touched by her softness. Yet, as those who recognized him threw blasphemy and attempted fights, she stood by him. As they cursed his name and threw fists, she stood by him. If he dared ask why, the answer was always a quaint smile followed by the softest voice. Because I don’t think you are a bad person! Or at least, not anymore. Those words surprised him and as he softened, he welcomed it. They wandered the world for centuries, two lovers experiencing everything they could together, but as their clocks ticked and modern times came, his lover held a request. Through their years, Minerva always adored children and requested for them to finally change things and settled down. The pair moved to Canada, changing their identities to a young couple and marrying under the Ackerman moniker. For years they tried until Minerva fell pregnant with their son, much to Loik’s delight. Together they cared for the child, Loik helping with Minerva’s pregnancy throughout those 9 months... but had he known what awaited at the end of those months, he would have cherished the precious seconds more. He was the approximate fake age of 22 when Minerva’s water broke and she was rushed to hospital. Excitement filled the air as they entered the delivery room together, doctors preparing to assist them with their son. Oh how trouble comes to paradise… As the hours passed, turning long and excruciating, a doctor frowned and gazed upon the assumed young couple. There was a problem that required attending, an error in Minerva’s health. Due to the situation, should they deliver the child, they were under the belief Minerva would perish. He remembered how the blood drained from his face as a soft What? breezed through his lips. He felt her hand feebly grab him and gesture him closer. The shock was heavy in his body as he drew closer, told her he could not lose her…told her she meant everything to him. The gentle hand on his cheek, the sunshine smile on her face as she spoke for the last time. ”Please, Loik... save your love for our son... save him... I lived my life with you, I stood beside you and those were the best years of my life... please give him the chance to live.” The tears fell heavy from his eyes as he gazed at her. His heart was heavy, a lump was in his throat, but he knew what she wanted. “Okay... I’ll always love you, Minerva…” On that day, Loik’s son was brought into this world at the price of his wife’s life. His promise to her weighed heavy on his shoulders as he buried her and watched over their son. He raised him well, showed him morals, became his support. His striking emerald eyes reminded him of her, his species matched hers. It was a true combination of their genes, and as a man with a duty to his beloved, he took the chance graciously. Every ounce of love he had for Minerva was redirected into cultivating a father and son relationship, one he wanted. On the sidelines, he told his son about his mother, refusing to allow Minerva’s memory to burn in the flames like his family long ago. For she deserved appraisal for saving the light of his life. misc - Likes: Winter, cold, rain, farms, tea, books, learning, helping, thunderstorms, history, quaint lifestyles, children, magic tricks, card/board games, sweets, camping, father son activities, calming music, snow, slow dancing, hysteria - Dislikes: Heat, summer, terrors, AP, peppermint hearts, flies, red, crowns, being referred to as lord, bright colours, wasps, dreamcatchers, clubs, racy flirting, heavy metal, overtime, fearless people - Fears: Fire, being found by them, his son getting hurt - He is still being hunted by those who invaded his noble lands centuries ago, but he does not speak in regards to it. - He plays off being a mere 35 years old by stating he is a history buff. - Rather than fixate on the past, Loik has devoted himself to his son.
