Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Stress eating that many pickles was .. not what he had expected. Nonetheless, he really wasn’t going to say anything too terribly much about it. Bruno was lying in the entrance to the door, watching Thalassa as he moved around, pausing every so often to send a text. He didn’t let his attention waver too much, keeping his attention solidly on the task he had set for himself, though the closer and closer he got to the completion of his task the more the ghosts started to creep up, their whispers in his ear growing louder and louder.
Putting the finishing touches on the macarons, he reached for a cup and heard his phone buzz. Glancing over - expecting to see another message from Severus - made him drop the cup and shatter it on the floor. Bruno’s head jerked up and the dog stared at him with concern as Thalassa set his jaw. Picking up his phone he blocked the number, but the damage had already been done. The ghosts were screaming in his ears and dizzying his sight - so he tried to distract himself again. Picking up the shattered pieces of the cup and cleaning the area where it shattered, he sighed heavily.
Sighing heavily, he glanced over at the macarons before sitting at the table, bonelessly slumping against it until his forehead and face were pressed against the cool surface of it. His phone was silent at the counter where he had left it, still open from the blocked number. He wasn’t going through that nonsense again. A shudder ran down his spine as his eyes closed. Your fault Thalassaaaaa... The chill of the table soaked into his skin and for a moment he allowed himself to cease, his mind a static of not thinking.
He didn’t notice Bruno’s ears twitch and the large canine rise to his paws, responding to a familiar presence coming home. Bruno approached the door with a subdued gait - the wag of his tail slow and with a low whine. No, no I’m fine. Just don’t think about it.. The words echoed like a skipping stone in Thalassa’s mind, but it wasn’t doing much today. If he melted into the table, well, he probably wouldn’t notice much. Thalassa was unresponsive, even at the sound of footsteps, though he would jolt if touched. Today’s haunting was bad, and he wasn’t pulling himself out of it very effectively.

The regret of not getting off sooner like he originally intended had ate away at him. Thalassa telling him otherwise and encouraging him to finish out the rest of his work day was what had pushed him not to stop working and carry on but the lizard should've knew he wasn't going to be able to do that. He barely managed to get through the last two hours of his work without seeing much progress. His thoughts were too consumed with focus on Thalassa and whatever it was that he had been going through. [break][break] Walking through the door of his--... no their home was refreshing. The needed deep breath of air he felt he had been lacking since he learned that Thalassa wanted to talk to him. He was greeted by the usual eager sight of Bruno who hadn't hesitated to run up onto him and demand his fair share of attention from the Raiju. Severus gave the animal a few pats to a combination of both his ears and head as he discarded his things momentarily to the entrance. [break][break] For what it was, the house had been almost too quite. He knew Thalassa had been making the macaroons so he hadn't anticipated for it to be like this. His movements were slow but his feet carried him to the kitchen. The smell of the sweets were strong. It was evident that whatever had been cooked was finished but, he hadn't been anticipating the sight he saw. It caused his movements to still and for his eyes to gaze upon the shaken figure of Thalassa who had been slumped down completely on the table.[break][break] Yeah... you're not fine...[break][break] He sighs softly, feet softly moving on over to where he was seated. His hand gently reaches out to place a comforting pat to the back of Thalassa which earns a jolt of surprise from the older male. Severus lets out another noise but his response is quick to ease down his companion. "I'm finally home..." The macaroons he worked so hard to made looked tempting sure but Thalassa looked as if he needed a hug and that promised conversation much more than he needed to chat over consumption of food.[break][break] "You need a hug?" His lips tug a vague smile, an attempt to be comforting as his hands rubbed tiny comforting circles into his back. "I've been told my hugs are quite effective so I'm a little confident."

Fully coherent thoughts struggled to surface in the black abyssal void that were his thoughts. A ceaseless ink black river that drowned anything beneath it’s current, never to surface again once it had been swallowed. Static silence was a loud roar in his ears that blotted out everything outside of his own thoughts, or at least, it seemed that way for awhile. A shockwave jolted him free of the vast nothing - leaving him gasping for air as the shadowed depths released him. Releasing a shaky but violent exhale, Thalassa stirred. He was starting to break free of it.
”Aah...” Thalassa raises his head, his skin cool from where he had been faceplanted on the table. When ... had that happened? ”Welcome home...” His voice is more subdued than usual, more distracted and lower in tone. Glancing over at the macarons to make sure they hadn’t been something he had just imagined up, he relaxed a little before he remembered who had tried to contact him. ”I ..... yeah. I think I do.”
How would he even begin to explain what was going on? Well, he had intended to bring it up eventually anyways ... so .... wasn’t now as good a time as any? Swallowing hard, his eyes remain stubbornly fixed on the table where his face had been resting just seconds prior. ”I have ... something to tell you.” Thalassa pauses then, his posture ever so slightly curling into itself as if he were trying to hide. But from what? From someone he couldn’t even ascertain was really there?
He didn’t know how his number had been found but, if he had that then .. there was a chance his location was also know. The utter dread he can feel freezing through his insides like ice at the mere thought, well, it’s not... it leaves him regretting. ”I think ... I think he found us...” Thalassa’s words are untempered, unfocused, vague. Not like himself at all. It’s all he can do not to be drawn back away into the shadows and ghosts of his mind, but he’s resisting. His head turns towards the counter, gaze falling back on the now black screen of his phone.

The sluggish movements and tone Thalassa greets him with is something he picks up on with ease. His eyes watched closely, paying attention to the slightest of changes to help piece together the general state the other was in. Severus time with Thalassa up until this point had mostly been experiences of reconnecting; spending time together when the two would usually be on their own. They had moments of awkwardness to moments where silence never happened. This had been the rawest emotion he saw Thalassa expressed since their reunion. It made him chew the inside of his mouth as his hand drifted to rub his back gently. The pit of his stomach was filled with anxiety and unease. Seeing Thalassa like this stung.[break][break] "Mmm... yeah thanks." He turned to retrieve one of the chairs of the table and pulled it closer to sit near Thalassa. Enough to where he was in arms reach but still some space remained. His hand leaves his back as it moved to gently brush a few strands of his hair that clung to his cheek off of his face. His hand dropped down and hesitantly moved to rest ontop of Thalassa's hand. "This is the best I can do for now but I'll give you that hug as soon as you're done saying what you need to, yeah?"[break][break] Small acts of soothing affection is all he had to offer for Thalassa until he opened up about what was causing the pain that was so obvious to Severus. "Go on ahead and spit it out at your own pace. I'm listening real close." The hesitation and way Thalassa seemed to close in on himself makes Severus exhale heavily. Just what was going on? [break][break] "He?" His voice deepens and suddenly sounds a lot more hostile than before. "Who's he?" He feels threatened and he could feel his possessive and protectiveness washing over him. Thalassa had to just give a name and he'd be ready to go off and keep this person far out of Thalassa's reach. He could only watch as Thalassa's head turned towards the counter. It confuses Severus greatly until his eyes honed in on the cellphone that he seemed to fixated on. Severus sits up more in his chair as he feels tempted to get up and go look through the phone... but he knew he couldn't. It would be overstepping and Severus is scared to ruin the progress he's made with the other male so far. "Did someone threaten you? Are you okay?"
[attr="class","newworldbot"]YOU TASTE THE BLAST AND IT SHOOK YOUR BONES
If he knew where they were, was he also close by? Severus’s touch calmed his nerves somewhat, but a shiver still crawled up his spine. It took all he could to not turn and cling to Severus, but for now he stayed his place despite the difficulty. After all he had tried to do to become a ghost, had it failed? His hand trembles underneath Severus’s as he speaks, and he swallows back his reservations. Thalassa nods slowly in response, usually well-kept hair falling back into his face.
If he found out exactly where they lived .... Thalassa could barely restrain the automatic wince. ”I... I said I would tell you everything, so..” He didn’t mean for his voice to waver, for himself to crumple under the realization. Something in him just barely survived the onslaught, all the things that had happened. He should have expected the way Severus reacted, but some part of him hadn’t. Lifting his face he tightens his jaw before responding, hating that he even has to say the name. ”Alcina. He’s the reason I ... left.”
Alcina is the person who had destroyed his life, pulled the strings behind all of it. If Alcina had found him again, then he would do whatever he could to stay away. Thalassa felt burned just by receiving any contact from the green-haired schemer, because for however little it had been he had let himself forget. ”I’ll be okay as long as you will be...” His hand curled somewhat, tensing as Severus shifted. ”It’s more complicated than that. I’m ... scared. What if he hurts you this time...? What more does he want to take from me...”
Thalassa’s voice trailed off then, not wanting to lose the only important person he had left. Severus was the most important person in his life, and there was no way he was losing that again. He should have never left him in the first place, and even being allowed back into his life was more than he could have wished for. More than he deserved, but more than he had hoped for. ”I...have I told you ... my family disowned me...? For saving them...?”
i wont scream or shout. lost my breath now. let's die together, no one lives forever. falling through the clouds ('cause i feel like i'm in heaven, dancing) when you go please don't leave your love in the sun. my heart would melt away in the night with your twisted tongue, when you drop the bomb, i'm blown away 'cause i refuse to hide in a page of this story i come out the box, i won't say i'm sorry

The way his hair falls in his face has Severus moving to gently tuck those strands behind his ear as his fingers linger for a few second before returning to resting that hand on top of Thalassa's. His eyes are glued to the nephilim as he exhales quietly once more. Such a devastated look didn't suit him, that uneasiness that settled within the lizards stomach only worsened as the name of the one who did this to them was uttered. Severus's jaw clenched as his expression darkened for a split second.[break][break] Alcina[break][break] The hair on his arm stood up as he felt the rage within him boil as his mind repeats the name inside his head, to a point of where it's etched into his memory. He wasn't going to let this Alcina person get free for what they did to Thalassa. For what they did to himself. He's pulled out of the volatile mindset when Thalassa hand curls around his. His head snapping down to look at him once more. This wasn't the time to focus on that person... Thalassa needed him. [break][break] "Thalassa - you say that but..." He notices ever movement made, every little jump and flinch. "I won't let him do anything to jeopardize me or you." It was the truth. Severus was going to cling to Thalassa out of his own fears of Thalassa disappearing from him once again. It was why he hadn't been able to shake the habits of checking in with Thalassa or needing to at least call him once when he was at work. He wasn't going to let this Alcina bastard show up and take him away again either. "I've also become a lot stronger than when you last saw me..."[break][break] The confirmation of this Alcina being a male judging by how Thalassa referred to him registered in his head as well. Severus wondered if there was someway he could find out more about him without Thalassa having to reopen old painful wounds. He'd have to think about it later... but Severus wasn't satisfied with knowing just his name. The hell that was coming for this man named Alcina? It was a brutal storm that wouldn't end until one of them was dead. Severus had no plans on being the loser either.[break][break] "I won't let him take anything more -- Now that the two of us are together again... I won't let anyone tear us apart."[break][break] He blinks-- momentarily confused followed by a quick 'what?' when Thalassa told him the next piece of information. It made no sense. Thalassa was protecting his family and yet they... "What the fuck? What kind of repayment is that... why did they disown you if you were protecting them? That's... that's actually so" Severus knows the pain of losing family more than anyone but to think that Thalassa was abandoned by his own family. Severus pulled his hands back to reach on over and give Thalassa that very much needed hug.[break][break] "...you don't need them." He can't help but growl out angrily. His hold tightens as he mumbles softly. "From now on... we'll be each others family. Bruno already counts as our ..c..child, doesn't he?" It's a poor attempt of cheering him up but it's effort he's trying. "You got me... and I got you... you aren't alone."
[attr="class","newworldbot"]YOU TASTE THE BLAST AND IT SHOOK YOUR BONES
[attr="class","awayfrom"] The emotions flowing through Thalassa are alive and crackling with a will all their own, like a bolt of electricity traveling through his bloodstream. He felt like every nerve ending was sparking in response to the onslaught of memory and emotion, taking no prisoners as it gnawed at him from the inside out. Losing what he had made for himself here with Severus, it is absolutely something he couldn’t handle. All he could do was just barely hold himself by a thread, wanting nothing more than to cling for all he was worth. He was trying his hardest to keep some semblance of strength to his figure, but knew he wasn’t fooling Severus anyways. Thalassa knew that his current state was being picked up on acutely, and his feelings rest between relieved and guilty.
Letting out a soft breath through almost clenched teeth as Severus spoke, Thalassa believes in Severus more than he’s even believed in himself. ”Please...” Thalassa had to put everything he had into this, into believing it to be true. The last thing he wanted was for Alcina to drive a force between then again, or worse, find a way to destroy them. If Alcina had his number though, then the schemer likely wouldn’t stop trying to get at him. A softer but still wavering smile spread over the nephilim’s face at what Severus said, and he decided to let his own feelings be known. ”I believe in you.”
The admission was one of the highest trust Thalassa could give, hanging the entirety of his self on the small statement. It was something Thalassa rarely said - perhaps the amount of times he had ever spoken it being able to be counted on the fingers of a single hand. At least two of those times had been spoken to Severus before, if not all of them. Severus had always been special, though he hadn’t shown it before .... all that happened between them. Thalassa focused on Severus again, trying to drive away the ghost of regret trying to drag claws into his mind again. If he started down that train of thought, it would be a herculean effort to pull himself back out of it. ”I don’t want to be away from you again...”
He didn’t understand the decision of his parents either, though he was in no real place to negotiate with them. He knew when to take a hint, and ontop of that he wasn’t sure where they had gone. ”I think they were disappointed.” Even if that’s an obvious answer, he still doesn’t really understand it. It stung, almost as if he had been thrown aside like a defective doll. Thalassa melted into Severus’s hug then, allowing his senses to focus only on Severus at this point.
Even though it hurt, Severus’s words comforted him. It was true no matter what lens he looked at it from, as long as he had Severus he would always survive in the end. Resting easily against Severus as the other’s hold tightened, Thalassa was letting the thoughts drift out of reach. ”Yes...even if you have an interesting choice of child. Though, looks like he’s inherited your loyalty.” He pauses for a moment, before breaking the silence again. ”Thank you...” What he has here, it’s the best thing he could imagine. Who he had here, was the best person he could have asked for. It wasn’t easy going, but he had never imagined it would be. He’s making it work though, they both were.

[attr="class","newworldmid"]
It feels like his heart might just stop when he heard the nephilim uttered those four words. It sparked such a large reaction within him that he couldn't control the shifting of his body, the gasp that left his lips and the slight widening of his eyes. To be acknowledged by Thalassa in this way was something he never really received before. It had the kamado dragon in an emotional state of awe but pure genuine joy. It wasn't fair of him to cry right now so he sucked in a deep breath as he moved. The embrace had Thalassa within tightened all the more but not to where it was painful. He was practically clinging to him and honestly, Severus was sure neither of them minded this all too much. "I won't let you down..." He pauses to suck in a deep breath as he nestled his head against his shoulder. "I won't let anyone get in our way..."[break][break]
There's a bit of hesitation after those words but he shakes his head just slightly. Another deep inhale but the words that leave his lips come out in a stern, confident tone. These were the words that held his resolve. "I won't ever be away from you again. I promised you, didn't I?" He'll be with Thalassa until the day he died... and even in death would he come back once more to live his life with Thalassa. Nothing will ever get in their way again. Severus belonged nowhere else but at the side of the long haired male within his arms. He lets this embrace linger onwards for a few minutes before he slowly pulled away although his hand moved naturally to gently stroke the hair that clung to Thalassa's face away while his thumb would go on to gently trace his cheek.[break][break]
"They had no reason to be disappointed in you." He had a lot he wanted to say to this so-called family of his. When a child did all they could to protect you... you don't go and turn your back on them. It had him grinding his teeth and his expression does darken. "No one like that deserves you if this is how they fucking react. They're... bastards all of them..." His hand moves from his face to gently rub his head. [break][break]
His expression softens as a snort rumbles up from without of him. "Listen... I took damn good care of Bruno. That brat better be loyal to me or I'll be angry." Although even if he puts it harshly; he cherished the animal dearly. He helped fill the void he had for so long but that no longer remained now that all three of them were reunited. "He missed you too, I'm sure..." He mumbles softly as he moved his hands to return to rest on him. The urge to bring him back into his hold is strong so he does just that. "All of this feels so surreal still..."[break][break]
"No--... thank you... thank you for coming back to me." He murmurs sweetly as he holds Thalassa gently. "I've wanted nothing but you for so long. All I could think about was you..."

[attr="class","awayfrom"] If it hadn’t been obvious before, certainly such a thing would be easy to see now. Severus had the ability to shake or secure Thalassa himself, the way the slightest thing from Severus could spark changes in his own world. Thalassa truly could not hold anything back any longer, leading to showing his feelings and thoughts all in a flood. To be vulnerable like he was ... to allow himself to freely speak his sentiments. There was no doubt within the nephilim that this was where he belonged, who he wanted to be with for as long as he would live. Almost akin to someone who had been left cold and in the dark for so long, Severus was the warm sun to put an end to his aimless wandering. In the hold of his most trusted person, Thalassa relaxed completely. This was home ..... where he wanted to remain for as ling as he possibly could. ”I know you won’t. You’re the only who hasn’t. You can count on me too...”
The whole world would be damned before the nephilim would let this be ruined, never again would he allow things to be tarnished. Severus speaks again and Thalassa can sense the confidence in them. Severus meant everything he was saying, and that wasn’t something to take lightly or for granted. ”Mhm...” His belief hasn’t faltered, even with the shock of the events that took place. It’s just a minor setback, but he has the strength to continue on. He’s not alone anymore, and would no longer have to face his problems with only himself to rely on. He has somewhere to belong ... someone he belongs to. The nephilim just barely doesn’t nuzzle his face into Severus’s touch, something almost automatic in the state he was in now.
His blue eyes flicker away at the words spoken next, almost guiltily. He knew the statement was likely true, though it doesn’t stop the feelings from being what they were. They had been such a prominent part in making him who he was, that the harsh judgement had crushed part of his emotional constitution. Thalassa has always been the one to do what he could for those he loved, though sometimes the choices that lead to him making were questionable at best. ”Yeah...I’m just happy I have you.” The words are tired, ready to just let that event fade as much as it could.
Though, the turn of conversation proves to be more upbeat. An amused tone, a banter of words. It was what the nephilim needed, something distracting from the other things tugging at his mind. He needed to be more than just fine, and in time he would be. Just like all other things, it would take time. ”Yeah...” It likely wasn’t wrong, though he never could have taken him with. Thalassa relaxes further in Severus’s hold, breathing out a slow sigh. Surreal .... the sensation is mutual. ”I always will....” If anything ever happened, Thalassa would search the ends of the earth to be at Severus’s side again.
The words cause a slight shift in his mental state, blue eyes for a moment seeming a bit brighter. ”You know ... there wasn’t a moment I didn’t regret it. Now that I’m here, where I should have been so long ago...” The nephilim pauses for a moment, almost as if thinking what to say through, though it was more or less just revealing more of himself. ”I’m never leaving again. This is where I belong.” Heaven and Hell and everything between be damned. There was nothing he’s rather have and nowhere else he’d rather be.

[attr="class","newworldmid"]
Feelings were rising that he thought he longed since tamed had returned upon hearing words he hadn't exactly come to terms with needing to hear. Some of the weight on his shoulders lessened although there was still a notable presence of it. He could count on Thalassa. It's something normally which would've invoked a knee-jerk reaction although it wasn't about him right now. "It's weird that after all this time... you always know the perfect things to say to me." It's a mumble as he leans further into the embrace he had. "No one else.... no one else was able to do that." [break][break]
Perhaps that had been proof enough that Severus really only reacted to the opinions and thoughts that Thalassa had for him. He could be called countless insults or belittled as much- but none of that could hold weight or value as much as what Thalassa felt, thought, or even said. "Mm... just happy?" He's pouting teasingly but still those words alone couldn't make Severus hide his grin long enough. "Happy's good... it's also great to see you happy."[break][break]
The both of them needed just that- time to be happy, to heal. If there was anything the both of them mutually wanted for each other... it would undoubtedly be that. There was no denying the underlying issues or problems they still needed to navigate but still... some happiness- and peace. It would do them wonders so that process could even begin. This man by the name of Alcina... Thalassa's family... all of them were hurdles, hurdles that needed to be dealt with before they could even think to start. [break][break]
"Say that to me more often." He speaks quiet, more quiet than he has throughout their entire interaction. Those words shake his core and causes him to exhale heavily. "I need more than anything to hear that. It's... still my greatest fear. That- I... waking up one day and you'll be gone again." Even though Thalassa swore to him, the fear grabs him by the throat and leaves him choking. Being abandoned like that left scars on him that he still to this day isn't even fully aware of the severity for. "It makes me feel so relieved hearing you say you belong here because you do. No where else." [break][break]
"I won't ever let anything interfere with us again... this is your home. Your home is with me..." He squeezes him tighter, soaking in everything that made Thalassa who he was.
