Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
With the smell of smoke filling his nose and the promise of possibly singed hair, Grey whirled into action. Brasti’s words were like sharp needles in his mind. Get the jacket off! For a second, he felt the panic gripping him and his hand seemed to be stuck at half speed. It was like every dream he’d ever had about messing this up except he wasn’t sleeping anymore. This was reality unfortunately.
But the outside sun caught a minute fragment of Brasti’s glasses, reflecting in Grey’s eye long enough to bring him back. No way could he look anymore ridiculous in front of this… badass.
“Fwah!” he cried, flapping the non-flaming sleeve off in one awkward motion. Grey’s fingers closed around the free sleeve and he half-ripped the jacket off to reveal just a plain black t shirt. The jacket landed in a pile on the ground.
In an almost frenzied motion, Grey brought his heel down repeatedly on the jacket until the flames finally flickered into nothing. Though it was dirtied with several new… alterations, he immediately slid back into his jacket and waved his hands almost wildly at his mentor.
“I’m so sorry! I swear this won’t happen again I- oh!” Grey straightened out, trying to appear more professional as he gave a professional-looking nod, “a-alright. What’s next Mr. Brasti?”
Even though there was a slight twitch in his bottom lip Grey maintained his composure. He’d only lit himself (and quite possibly his mentor) on fire twice. Third time was the charm, right? Or, alternatively those could be his famous last words. Still if Brasti wasn’t going to give up then Grey wouldn’t either.
Flames flickered across the sleeve of Brasti's jacket, a byproduct of Gray's abrupt combustion. They licked near his face, though the demon hardly batted an eye. Manipulation-wise, the dark-haired man's fire manipulation was leaps and bounds better than darkness manipulation. Therefore, his lack of fear spawned from fire immunity and natural exposure arrived more naturally than rain on a cloudy evening. Panic was vanquished in the demon's mind, a deep breath being sucked into the depths of his lungs before being slowly exhaled.
[break][break]
Only moments later would the flames on his sleeves die down, acute, narrowly noticeable damage to his sunglasses existent. The connector between the leg and the lens holder attained subtle damage. Nothing particularly concerning, however, enough to create fragility as their legs moved. Though shortly after extinguishing the flames tickling Brasti's jacket he discovered his apprentice's panic. In a wild frenzy, Gray listened to his hastily spoken demand, throwing off his TRS mandated jacket onto the ground.
[break][break]
The unfortunate jacket was greeted with stopping to smother out the remaining flames. The demon quietly watching the end result, countenance starting with surprise and shifting to amusement in mere moments. The over-reaction was worth every precious minute to watch, the exclamation of his words adding a special type of direness. He watched his apprentice return his jacket to his shoulders, spouting out a frantic apology before shifting back to professionalism. Evidently, the man realized the ridiculousness of his outburst.
[break][break]
Thoughts churned inside of Brasti's mind, an unnoticeable glint flickering as he arrived at a thought. Undoubtedly, Gray's jacket would only catch on fire further with his lack of control. Therefore, the nuisance may as well be removed in favoured of the bare-arms t-shirt he revealed.
[break][break]
"Maybe keep your jacket off? The poor thing has been through enough," the demon suggested with a soft chuckle. "Then, we will try again."
[break][break]
The sunglasses-wearing scout was determined to avoid taking more risks. Already his apprentice had managed to lit himself on fire twice with the training. Which ultimately meant changing tactics in hopes of helping Gray reaching the starting steps at least.
Gray could only blink in surprise when Brasti merely chuckled at his incompetence. Maybe he had been influenced by the sharp-looking, sunglasses exterior but Gray had expected this person to be a difficult mentor. Well, there was the simple fact that he’d caught multiple things on fire and Brasti was still making him practice.
It was true he would rather work on his force fields but being able to adequately light things on fire would be quite useful…
“Right then,” he replied, hoping he hadn’t been staring too long. In one, rushed movement he shrugged his jacket off and placed the allegedly fireproofed heap of fabric on a nearby surface. Dirt crunched beneath his boots as he shifted to face Brasti again.
The pupil struggled with a threaded doubt in his mind. Maybe this was still a bad idea. There was still time for him to do serious damage. The textured center of his gaze once again rested towards his mentor as Gray bit his lip furiously from the inside, just enough so that it’d calm his frayed nerves without alerting his mentor. Hopefully.
“Okay. What should I do now? I’m not sure conjuring a flame is a good idea but I can reduce already existing flames,” he struggled to voice the ridiculousness of the next part but then decided just to lay it out, “only flames that I didn’t make.”
Brasti could assuredly already guess his incompetence and he’d already made a decent fool of himself so what was the point in hiding it? He said a silent prayer for the fact that Brasti hadn’t pushed the weapons training too much. Gray couldn’t even imagine what he’d be telling the guy.
A TRS operative who didn’t have a weapon just seemed hilariously pathetic. Gray gave the sunglass-wearing man a nod as though to signal his readiness. Not that he ever would be ready for this sort of thing of course.
Defensively, Brasti's apprentice checked the boxes off for capability. Despite these facts, he was plenty aware Graelish would require an offensive to assure his survival. The battlefield was a dangerous location, and the scouting perspective while being lesser exposed to the perils, was still suffocated by them. Around every corner would be an enemy, malicious individuals planning the demise of the Terror Response Syndicate. Mercy was a nonexistent word in their vocabulary and years of service taught Brasti those values with haste.
[break][break]
The demon pulled up his sunglasses via a soft grab to the spectacle's leg. Thoughts of where to proceed the lesson fluttered through his mind. The seraphim's inadept nature and unwillingness to hold a weapon would potentially lead to instances of being pinned down by the enemy. A man only capable of defences would be required to run and avoid trapping from the enemy. It left the dark-haired man relatively determine to help him learn. Though with extinguishing going questionable, he wondered if there was a different manner to tackle it.
[break][break]
"We can move on for a bit after this, but I think it would be beneficial for you to get the hang of this," the demon explained. "You said no to a weapon, so you need something to get someone off your back so you can get away if you need to."
[break][break]
A soft 'hmm' hummed through the demon's lips as his thoughts churned. His mind sought for another method of explanation or perhaps something missing from the apprentice's attempts. Though any signs to giveaway to potential issues were masked by the seraphim. Undetectable and hidden beneath a visage faking another emotion. When he heard his apprentice speak, his violet eyes flickered over.
[break][break]
"Can you make sparks or anything of the sort? Otherwise, I think maybe we should start with you trying to maintain an existent flame. It might help you get used to holding fire's form," the demon suggested to him. "If not, we might have to teach you hand-to-hand, but that is not always reliable."
[break][break]
In a world brimming with varying abilities, hand-to-hand combat struggled to discover its place. There were plenty of different powers to disrupt the flow of hands or sharp kicks. However, with his apprentice being a seraphim, enhanced speed could provide a quickness to maneuver and avoid those attacks. Alas, it ultimately depended on the person's dexterity to power them through and avoid tripping up. If flames proved further beyond comprehension at present, the demon's options would be placed in attempting to build upon Gray's enhanced speed ability.
[break][break]
Nonetheless, Brasti hoped to build upon Gray's fire manipulation on the side. If naught for a refined weapon, an excellent assist to other built upon skills or extinguishing capabilities. If anything, Brasti wanted his apprentice to gain capability in starting and extinguishing flames even if not for a full-blown offensive strategy.
