Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Lyra was happily in bliss. Every moment with Kai was like a fantasy to her. She got to meet one of her childhood Heroes. She absolutely adored him in STARS. She was about to ask he sign something for her, and she got flipped off of him. Lyra landed back onto the table, able to get herself to stand on the thing. She could hear someone growl from behind the booth. "No touching." Lyra growled back in response. "He's mine!" She tried to hop over the back of the booth to get after Kai again, but was stopped by Jason as he wrapped his arms around the girl. He was able to pick her up easily.
Lyra struggled kicking her legs everywhere as she tried to escape his grasp. She even tried to transform, but Jason was keen on her plans and adjusted his grip as she turned into a raccoon right before the rest of the group. The sound of angry chittering escaped out the raccoon's mouth, but Jason was able to keep a hold of it. He groaned. "Your not welcome here again," He raced to the exit of the club prepared to toss her out.
The rest of the guards were clearing up the situation now that Kai was for the most part clear from the ravenous fans. Lyra shifted back into her human form to try and get Jason's grip off her and she seemed to submit to her actions. "Okay you got me I'm sorry!" Lyra seemed to beg for some kind of forgiveness. "I'm just doing my job," Jason replied back to her tossing her out of the club. "I don't want to see you again," Lyra pouted her ears folding forward as she pouted. "You can look as cute as you like it's not going to change anything." Lyra groaned in anger as she stormed off from the club without so much as a signature.
Kai was startled having himself ripped out of his seat and tossed into the air. Thankfully he was quite acrobatic thanks to a bit of training for roles, and he was able to maneuver his body well enough in the air to almost land on his feet. Landing and hitting his feet against the ground he dropped and landed on his ass for a second. He quickly got up patting off his attire. He could hear the screams of the woman who was sitting on his lap as Jason took care of her. He looked at Katya who seemed to ask him if he was alright.
"What the hell was that?!" He asked her honestly confused at her strength. He groaned not excited about having to admit her plan was at least smart for the situation. "I mean, whatever that was it at least worked.. I'm just not to keen on people lobbing me through the air." Kai was pretty upset with her, but was happy with his guards response time to the situation. The area was being cleared for signings to commence again, and the crowd was being dispersed. He was a little happy that she seemed to show restraint. He knew she had knives on her and was glad she wasn't so itching to use them that she pulled them out.
Kai waved over the person attending him for the night. "Get me another single select, on the rocks this time." Kai was pretty fed up with the night now, and was planning to drink his way out of anger, and stress, if that would even work. Jason returned to the area, basically helping people ferry the remaining fans out of the building before coming up to Katya and Kai. "We're ready to resume Kai, it won't happen again." Jason was protective of his guards so kept the man who technically failed to stop them from coming through out of Kai's rage by not speaking about it.
Kai walked around the back and sat down by the table, expecting Katya to take her place somewhere nearby this time. She was new so not like he could fault her too much for her actions. That strength though, Kai couldn't help but be a bit flustered about it. She could do a lot of damage to him if she wanted couldn't she? Kai couldn't help but find that amount of strength a bit electrifying to think about. "Let's keep me on the ground for the rest of the night!" He spoke specifically to Katya before waving them to let more people in.
They returned to normal operation and the rest of the night went smoothly. Kai however was drinking very heavily throughout the night, and was becoming more and more intoxicated. They eventually let some of the VIP people in the booth area, but they paid so much money none of them would even dare to cause a riot. One of the VIPS walked up to Katya even asking her a question. "So your guarding Kai Lust right?" He seemed to whisper a bit almost as to hide his words from anybody else. "Has he been into anything shady? Have you worked with him long enough to know?" The man seemed to be asking a lot of questions. Too bad he just had bad luck in asking a guard that literally knew basically nothing. "I just like gossip I guess.."
[attr="class","runrunpost"] Like every ravenous fan, the raccoon woman tried to grab at Kai but good old Jason stepped in. Katya’s respect for Kai’s right hand man was only growing at this point. She watched with a pointed gaze as the woman was shown out and the other members of the club were once again ushered into a more orderly fashion. Satisfied, Katya cast her gaze to Kai who had recovered from her handling of him. He was staring at her now with an expression that seemed less than pleased.[break][break]
“I could have just let her fondle your some more if you wanted?” Katya spoke calmly back, not at all phased by his rough tone. She’d been yelled at plenty of times and from someone she’d just tossed around, Katya expected it.[break][break]
As Kai barked for a drink, Katya felt like she would need one when she got home too. Jason finally returned after the crowds grew quiet with the promise that the show must go on. One more pointed question in her direction unnecessarily reminded her that Kai wasn’t happy. She didn’t care. Jason had made it abundantly clear that he was her boss and she was going to stick by it.[break][break]
Next time she’d just use the knives then.[break][break]
“Of course,” the scarlet-haired woman replied curtly, once again taking up her position. This time she loomed closer, just enough to out of the shots but close enough to be able to block anyone willing to get far too close to Mr. Lust. [break][break]
Naturally, this peaceful existence of much-needed silence couldn’t go on. Katya resisted the urge to press her lips together tightly when one of the VIP guards came over to chat her ear off. When she was certain he was done his countless barrage of questions, Katya spoke.[break][break]
“I don’t like it, so try someone else,” her words came out in a low growl, scarlet orbs centering on Kai’s next photo op as she tried her best to ignore the guard to her right, “also if you want to keep your job I would keep your mouth shut if I were you.”[break][break]
Katya left it at that and, against her better judgement, weaved through the crowd closer to Kai to avoid the chatty guard. Out of the corner of her eye she could see Jason there looking as vigilant as ever. Granted the loud screeches from the fan taking a picture with Kai all but pierced her eardrums at that point, fracturing her concentration.
Kai listened to her talk back and groaned under his breath thinking. "At least she has a backbone," Frankly Kai found her attitude to be a bit better than someone who was just constantly bending over backwards for him. In fact he found the whole, I don't give a fuck about you thing, kind of attracting. He was constantly being placed with people who would do whatever he wanted, say whatever they felt like would make him happy. Katya was not one of those peoples and that was at least something to be happy about.
The signings continued throughout the night, people with VIP passes allowed to come in as well. The guard speaking to Katya looked at her with an anger. He was just trying to get some dirt on Kai, he wasn't with the group that protected Kai, but with the night club section. Hearing Katya's words must have at least knocked some common sense into the man. "Alright then," He scoffed towards Katya.
Kai on the other hand was enjoying the night much more now that he had a steady supply of drinks. He was beginning to flirt a bit more with the woman that approached him, and was much more generous in signing things. He even had a few heart felt conversations with a few of the fans, and even invited one to his party he was throwing. He was new to living in Lorsette and wanted a proper welcoming party of course. Jason approached Katya as Kai was caught up in conversation with another female fan.
"Pretty good job tonight Katya, I was a little surprised to see Kai being thrown ass over end, but you got him out of the situation without being hurt. You know just try to keep his feet on the ground next time." Jason was pretty happy with the way the night was going, and most of the hard situations of the night had ended. He wasn't against going to talk to the newbie for a little bit.
Jason spoke loudly and confidently among the music. "Hey, if he tries anything stupid you'll let me know right?" Jason shrugged. "I don't know you seem strong enough to handle that sort of thing on your own, but he can be a little idiotic at choice making when he's drunk, so you know, just be prepared for him to say anything." Jason wasn't too sure how he could make her ready for a drunk Kai, but he supposed this was good enough warning. "I got to go prep for the end of the night, so just be on your toes." Jason walked away to go talk to some of the other guards.
[attr="class","runrunpost"] “You should have people closer to him. Clearly these fans are like beasts on the hunt,” Katya pointed out, not wanting to talk back but also seeing a fair degree of holes in the defense plan she could easily tare through. Then she added, “if she'd had a knife he’d be done.” [break][break]
Maybe average protection jobs were just something she wasn’t interested in. Katya might consider picking up another one if she was short on money but only because Jason seemed so reasonable. Kai Lust on the other hand… [break][break]
Then came the next disturbing snippit of the night. Drunk. Stupid decisions. Centuries of training left her face neutral in the wake of this news but underneath she was kicking herself now. Babysitting a drunk, handsy human was the last thing she had signed up for. With that bomb delivered, Jason strode over to talk to other guards. [break][break]
Katya pulled in closer to Kai, just out of shot for the pictures but ready to lunge in a heartbeat. The downside was that she could now here the intricate details of Kai’s conversation with his fans. As much as she wanted to cross her arms over her chest she ignored the urge, her dominant hand resting lightly on the hilt of one of her favorite knives. [break][break]
What she wouldn’t give for silence. Sweet, underrated silence. [break][break]
How much more time was left to this gig? Surely it had to be almost over. Katya wondered if Jason had any kind of system in place for Kai being drunk in public. She doubted that it was good for his image to be inebriated in front of fans. Still, her job wasn’t to manage his publicity. Harming fans was off the table for sure but stepping in to prevent a drunken Kai lust from making a fool of himself didn’t seem like it was in her pay grade. [break][break]
Pressing her lips tight, she stood stoically to his left, waiting.
Jason didn't much like some her words. Was she insinuating that his security was lacking? He grumbled lowly deciding to let it slide. She was probably kicking herself in the teeth realizing she'd have to drive Kai home. Jason slipped back into the crowds of the people dealing mainly with his staff. Kai on the other hand refused to stop signing some items. Despite the night moving on long enough, and his manager, who was now on scene, seemed very angry.
He walked up to kai, and in a very nasally voice spoke. "Kai we only agreed to a few hours," He looked at the guards who were still accepting money at least. "You haven't given out any freebies, you know your supposed to charge per item too!" He snarled at Kai. Kai smiled at him. "Don't worry so much, besides it's good for my image. I'll compensate you fairly." Kai spoke to him while signing a few items from one individual. The manager didn't seem to pleased to see him signing multiples without getting one of the guards to take more money from them.
The night was pretty basic for him now, smile, look pretty, sign autographs, sign blu-rays, and receive even some fan artwork from some of the fans. Eventually the manager returned and cut Kai off from continuing to sign things. The floor was seemingly being closed off, and the night was ending for the group. People seemed to be pushed back into the dance section of the night club, the manager taking a lockbox from the guard at the front entrance. Kai was finishing up another drink, before he walked over to Katya.
"Do you remember the way back?" Jason walked over cutting in between the two. "Of course she knows the way back Kai" He smiled with a kind attitude. The smell of alcohol filled the air coming from Kai's mouth. Jason turned to look at Katya. "Just follow me, same deal as last time." Jason looked at his watch.
"Come on lets go Katya," Jason grabbed Kai's arm and began pulling him through the club. The security was tight, since the little riot they had they weren't letting anything else through. He made his way to the entrance where the car Katya was driving before was waiting. The valet got out of the car, leaving it running. Kai pulled a 50 from his pocket. stretching his hand to reach the lad being held back from Jason's grip. He handed the guy the 50 and then Jason almost literally threw him in the back. "Don't be an idiot Kai" He spoke firmly. Kai seemed to be a little dazed and confused with all the lights and flickering confusing him in his drunken state.
There was a line up of cars Jason leaving Katya with the black mercedes. He went into his SUV which was waiting infront of the mercedes.
[attr="class","runrunpost"] Was there a slight irritation on Jason’s expression? If so, it quickly faded. Katya wasn’t here to make friends. Most people would see her bluntness as harsh but the woman refused to censure herself. She’d been alive far too long to deal with that sort of game. Kai’s descent into perhaps a little bit too much to drink continued to remain fairly tame, despite Jason’s warnings. [break][break]
After some time, Kai walked up to her with a pointed question. Before she could agree, Jason swooped in to set his charge in place. What interesting dynamics these humans had. [break][break]
She was especially intrigued when Kai was gripped by the arm and lead around like petulant child. Celebrities were different she supposed. They didn’t play by the same rules everyone else did. [break][break]
Katya was both relieved and disappointed that she’d kept her knives out of sight. Now all that was left was to tuck Kai into bed and then head to the bar where she could escape this night. Not that it had been bad just… not what she was used to.[break][break]
“Of course,” were her neutral words at Jason’s instructions.[break][break]
Soon they were in the car, Katya at the wheel and Kai in the back. Once she followed them home it would be a simple matter of dropping off Kai and speaking with Jason. The crimson-haired mercenary wasn’t entirely sure what to think of this job. [break][break]
It paid well. It hadn’t been too much of a pain. But the people. So many people screaming in one place. [break][break]
“Are you still breathing back there? You’re pretty intoxicated for a human,” Katya replied, her first unprovoked inquiry. She stole a glance at the man in the seat behind her to confirm that he was in fact breathing before training her eyes back on the road.
Kai sat in the back, almost forgetting to put on his seat belt. He struggled a tiny bit with getting the thing on but proceeded to look about the car curiously. "Jason didn't even let me bring anyone over to the manor.." He pouted almost like a small child. Sure it was his manor, and he paid these people, but Jason after all was looking after his best interest in mind, for the most part, and Kai gave him a lot of power over things. "Can you believe that guy?!" Kai huffed in the back while crossing his arms. This is when he heard her asking if he was still breathing. "This is nothing!" He boasted. "I've gotten much drunker than this, believe me!" He laughed lightly. His attitude being a lot more up beat and loose than usual.
"So, Katya. How about you join me at the Manor for a little bit after your shift, we can fix your situation, of you know not having any drinks for the night." Kai was mostly being innocent, he didn't really expect her to say yes, and he knew that Jason would veto the situation and tell him to bugger off, so this was mostly to see her response to being asked something slightly ridiculous. He slumped back into his chair, looking up through the front window to notice Jason's SUV driving in front of them. It wouldn't be too long until they made it to the manor.
Plus the alcohol had gotten Kai to be a bit more upfront, and loose, than he normally was. "So if you've been around so long don't you have like children? Or do you live long enough where that's not really a concern of yours. I say you look remarkable for someone over 40." He teased her lightly while leaning forward in his seat pushing himself in between the two front seats.
"You handle the car so gingerly, why not rev the engine a little bit, she can take it." The seatbelt stopped Kai from getting closer through the middle, and he slumped back into his seat while groaning.
Kai pulled out his phone, quite annoyed with the seat belt restricting his movement, and began flipping through apps on the thing while casually looking up at the rearview mirror.
[attr="class","runrunpost"] He was like a child. A child buckled into a seat and angry about being unable to move. Katya wanted to loathe the fact that she’d been roped into glorified babysitting but something underneath her cold exterior was finding this, what… amusing? Perish the thought. [break][break]
“Maybe I’m thirty-five and I have seven children. Maybe I’m a century old and I eat children for fun. What does it matter?” Katya quipped back without so much as a change in facial expression. She didn’t take her eyes off the road. Soon they’d be back to base. [break][break]
Katya fought back a sigh as she glanced at Kai through the rear view mirror. He still looked put together but there was a certain sort of sweater-about-to-unravel quality to him that was hard to miss. Humans with their short lifespans and reckless choices. It was hard to imagine she shared blood with them at all. [break][break] “So, this is what you do all the time? Go places, get drunk, and then have Jason tuck you into bed for the night?” she would regret making conversation for sure but it was too tempting not to gather some information in the event she wanted to pick up another job with Jason, “sounds boring. Maybe you should try something more fun for a change.” [break][break]
What would a human find fun? The corner of Katya’s mouth twitched slightly at an idea. [break][break]
“Like getting into a knife fight,” she did love a good knife fight… oh right, “not on my watch of course. You can use a pool noodle or something instead. Beat Jason with it, I’m sure he’d love that.”
Kai laughed giving out a genuine smile at her response. "So your a baba yaga or something then?" Kai found it interesting living in a world with so many races, but didn't like being such a weak creature. He was often times reminded of how weak he was by others who were much stronger than him. Other actors that had the luxury of being born a strong creature. He looked at her through the mirror, wondering what her response to baba yaga would be. When she brought up Jason tucking him into bed Kai almost snorted, being much more vocal than when he was sober. "Yes and no. We have scripts to write, casting calls to view, producers to call, but every night ends with Jason tucking me in. You should be jealous. He has big arms, and a warm exterior." This was when he realized she didn't respond to his earlier questioning of her joining him for a drink. He squinted at her through the rear view suspiciously but decided against bringing it up again.
Kai then focused on the SUV braking ahead, slowing down for the turn into the manor. "I do have enough kung-fu, and martial arts knowledge to kick some ass you know." He scoffed at her. "Needed it for a role, can't have someone throwing a weak looking punch. And you know, essentially need to know it so it looks smooth on camera." He paused trying to remember the specific name of the film. "muay thai master, check it out" Kai was perhaps over blowing how well of a fighter he was, he was essentially trained to not hit the target for safety's sake, and it wasn't as comprehensive as someone who actually trained all their life for such a thing, but it was in his repertoire.
Jason Opened the gate ahead of them, the SUV pulling into the driveway. The garage door began opening as well, and the SUV Drove in when it was clear, and the group of guards began exiting the SUV before Katya even had the chance of pulling in, but they kept into their corner of the garage to give her space for pulling in.
[attr="class","runrunpost"] Katya was surprised to hear such an old Slavic tale slung back at her. Even despite the presence of magics and her lineage as a dhampir, such legends had stalked the shadows of her childhood like most children. An old woman who lived in a hut in the woods eating children. Sounded like too much work to do for free. But the conversation had already moved on. [break][break]
To Jason and his big, warm arms. [break][break]
While Kai’s tale of his martial arts skill was mostly an inflammation of his intoxication, Katya did find it somewhat interesting that he’d taken the time to learn anything. Maybe it was a low blow but she’d taken him for the type that sat back and let everything be handed to him. [break][break]
“Mmm,” she tried her best to sound disappointed, “no pool noodle fights? What a shame.”[break][break]
Before her the group disassembled out of their vehicles and into the garage. Soon their own car was resting neatly in its spot, turned off. Katya stole a quick glance at Kai to be sure he hadn’t magically gotten himself into trouble. Satisfied, she opened the door and stepped out.[break][break]
The crimson-haired woman, feeling strangely amused, waited for Kai to step out before answering his earlier inquiry. She couldn’t help the corner of her mouth from pulling into something resembling a smirk, though a small one at best.[break][break] “If I’m Baba Yaga than that means you’re Vasilisa the beautiful. So be careful what you call an old lady from now on,” Katya’s smirk grew just a slight bit wider. She briefly considered the idea of a demonstration of his alleged martial arts prowess before tossing the key’s in Kai’s directions. If he had decent reflexes drunk than maybe he had better reflexes sober. Just maybe.
Kai sat back casually when she seemed to be disappointed about the pool noodles. "I do have an indoor pool in the manor, if you really want you and Jason can fight with pool noodles, and I'll place a sum on the winner!" Kai wasn't against a pool noodle fight, and in his drunken state now that she seemed upset it wasn't happening he felt obliged to make it happen if only to see her spirits somewhat pick up. He wondered what Katya would look like with a genuine smile on her face. The car seemed to come to a stop, and Katya got out rather quickly. Kai struggled with the seat belt a bit, but quickly made his way out of the car a few seconds after she stepped out. Jason was making his way to speak to Katya, and get her out of her shift for the night.
Her response to him calling her Baba Yaga had popped up. Kai looked at her in amusement, she seemed to have some sort of smirk on her face. "What I'm getting out of this is that you think I'm beautiful." Kai replied with a confident poise, but a playful tone almost as if he was making a joke about sounding like a rich prude. She tossed the keys in his direction, Kai wasn't ready but quickly adapted trying to grab the keys that flew through the air. They hit against the tops of his palms, and bounced. It took a few swipes, the keys bouncing against his hands, but he eventually caught them. He definitely looked caught off guard too.
Kai groaned. "There's a key hook on the wall, you know." He pressed the lock switch on the car, locking the vehicle, a satisfying beep echoing in the garage. Jason walked up, with a envelope in hand. The other guards seemed to rotate around the garage, while some filtered into the large manor.
"Here Katya, you can consider this means your off-duty." Jason called out. Kai looked at Jason, placing a hand on his shoulder preventing him from giving Katya the envelope. "Jason she wants to see a pool noodle fight? Care to make it happen? You vs Me, then You vs Katya, and then me vs Katya, what do you say?" Jason didn't seemed to pleased with the idea.
"Sounds like a danger with you in this condition, if you fell in the pool there's no guarantee you'll be able to keep your head above water." Jason shrugged, pushing Kai's hand out of the way and reaching to hand Katya the envelope.
"There's a bit of a bonus there, since you did pretty well in the thick of it. If we need you for other jobs I assume you won't hesitate to pick up the phone?" Jason was more worried about actual dangerous events, like comic-con, or one of Kai's movie castings, they got a real number of nutjobs on those things, actors can be crazy, and if Kai made an enemy in Lorsette along the way, like he had in America, then her talents with knives would be more useful.
Kai, looking a bit sad, waddled over to the key hooks on the wall of the garage, placing the key next to his other keys. "It's right here! For next time Katya!" He drunkenly called out to her, showing where the key hooks are from across the garage.
[attr="class","runrunpost"] Katya couldn’t help but be amused at the idea of fighting Jason with a pool noodle. It seemed so ridiculous. Would the defensive capabilities be too far removed from regular weapons? In addition, the idea of testing Jason’s mettle was something that also held her interest. Few things save fighting and combat could these days.[break][break]
As Jason made his way over, Kai’s honeyed words once again filled the air. Katya should expect it at this point. Though she had to admit that he was a witty drunk if nothing else. The dhampir smirked but said nothing to this comment. Mostly because Jason was standing nearby holding her payment. [break][break]
“See, that would be less fun. I wanted to test your reflexes,” she quipped, then added, “obviously we need to work on them.”[break][break]
Kai’s suggestion of the noodle fight nearly made her laugh. Jason was right, there was no way he could fight in that condition. He’d sink like a hole-filled ship. Plus, Katya had always been in the mindset not to mix business with pleasure. Keeping friends with clients was a risky business; thoughts and feelings would bleed into her impartiality thus compromising her judgement. It was a bitter existence but one Katya had resigned herself to. [break][break]
“Of course, though I hope there’s significantly less face-groping from the next group of fans,” she plucked the envelope gently from his grips before taking a quick count with her eyes. These guys weren’t the type to cheat but it had always been her policy, “nice doing business Jason. Good luck with tucking him in tonight.”[break][break]
Uncharacteristically, Katya shot the pair a smile. Humans. Life was so quick, so simple, everything a fleeting occurrence with the press of time forever lingering. Despite this, despite all her coldness, she couldn’t help but admire them to some degree.
