Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Vashti had already been up sixteen hours straight, having been working on a case. She felt like she was getting closer and closer to solving it. She had a suspect already in mind but first she would have to go out and talk to the shifter one more time. She stood up from her desk, walking over to a cabinet before placing the folder inside of it. She didn't have time to wait until the morning, the murderer might skip town if she didn't figure out who they were and arrest them. She grabbed her keys to her police car and made her way out of the building before unlocking it and getting inside. So far the evidence points all to him, the victim was her brother but I can't let that stop me from clearing her name once and for all. She stuck the key in the engine and pulled the car out of its parking spot before driving off to the shifter's house. Though she could have been there in a matter of minutes she didn't want to use her energy when she had unlimited with this car. After a few minutes she pulled up to the shifter's house and parked the police car.
She stepped outside of the police car and closed the door behind her. She slowly made her way to the front door and knocked on it, no answer. She knocked harder before giving her name for the shifter to know it was just a police officer. She didn't receive a reply back so she tried opening the door, it opened slowly. Something about this just doesn't feel right.... She thought to herself as she slowly crept inside. "Hello?" She called, hoping she would hear somebody but it was dead silent. That is strange, nobody is here.... She thought to herself, feeling slightly relaxed until she had heard something coming from outside. She was quick to rush out the door and around the house to see the shifter. Little did she know, it wasn't a shifter but a Disguiser. "Ms. Evans." The shifter answered, having a grin on her face.
"I want you to come down to the station, I have a few more questions for you." She answered boldly, waiting for the shifter to comply so that they could get it over with. "How about not." The shifter answered, catching Vashti by surprise as she advanced towards her suddenly. Vashti moved to take a step back just to notice it was much more darker outside. What is going on? This is impossible.... She hesitated and the shifter moved along the shadows so that she was now behind her instead. How did she do that? That isn't something a shifter can do. She withdrew her sword as she turned to face the shifter in front of her. "Stop this now else you will be under arrest for attacking an police officer." She positioned herself to attack if the shifter didn't surrender. "Killing you will be so much fun." The shifter answered, moving through the shadows once more. Vashti looked around to try and find her but the shifter had yet to come out of hiding. Something hit her from the side, sending her flying until she had landed on her stomach.
What the hell.... Why can't I find her? She slowly started to stand up before feeling something cut her arm. "How does it feel, knowing your going to die?" The shifter started laughing, the noise sounding like it was coming from all sides. She just couldn't find the shifter from the darkness surrounding this area. I have to get up.... She tried pushing herself to her feet, something hit her in the stomach and she was send backwards, landing on her back hard. "Is that the best you got, human?"
Instructions and information had been given, the beginnings of a mission shortly following after the file had been handed to the scarred hands of the reaper. Statements of suspicion had been placed upon a house by a scout who suspected the occupant had been killed and shortly a disguiser took their position. It was a mission befitting of an undead since they were capable of viewing souls. Reasonably, the crucial completion of the hunting task had been handed to Fritz who impassively agreed. Disguisers were sadistic fear eaters, the type that were incredibly dangerous to Lorsette. They could hide, pretending to be the person or creature; a work of theatrics. However, their downfall were the eyes of an undead or the capable sense of smell of other species. Being a reaper meant the blue haired man fit the bill perfectly for scoping the potential terror and eradicating the creature.
Cloaked in the dark colours of his TRS uniform, Fritz had capably slipped through the window by controlling a dead rat into opening it. The warmth of the inside of the house embraced the reaper, the cold of outside being forgotten. Examinations of the room were taken, noting the various incisions made in a cruel manner, tortuous. Out of response, the elite hunter gripped his sword; being tortured prior to his death always sparked a feeling of fear. The slight horror spout was ignored, the hunter easing as he slowly moved through the dark home, like a shadow hidden in amidst of darkness. Footsteps were light, not an utterance of sound coming from his footfalls. The reaper's blue eyes looked across the walls, some bearing family portraits which had received hefty damage. As the home was ventured further, dead insects and rodents slowly grew more common and were hidden beneath the furniture. A concern that suggested the possibility of a disguiser.
As the blue haired man continued sneaking through the various rooms, he began to hear yelling. There was a conversation taking place that was not going into somebody's favor. It drew the reaper closer towards the commons room where the words had echoed out of. A slight flinch came across his face as an odd sensation, almost like a phantom hit with no pain, came across his side. It was ignored, merely one of those random occurrences that had started since he met Vashti. The sounds of scuffling started coming from the room along with more of these peculiar sensations. Once again, Fritz paid no mind to them as he pressed himself against the wall and peered into the room. Similar to a majority of the home, the room was dark and possessed an individual Fritz could narrowly see. A long blink was taken as the reaper activated his soul viewing ability which resulted in the noticing of the snuffed out light.
A snuffed out light meant that the suspicions were truthful. Moments were taken to survey the room, Fritz's blue eyes following where the disguiser went. That was when he saw her, the long brown hair alongside the recognizable features that the dead man had memorized. Vashti had gotten herself into another predicament. A swear was uttered on his breath as the reaper pushed away from the wall and drew the plain sword from its scabbard. With that, the reaper rounded the corner while the disguiser's back was turned. Despite his dislike of the rather loud and bold plan, Fritz began to charge towards the creature at full speed quiet footsteps now forgotten. For a moment, the creature attention was focused on the prey it currently held, only turning to notice the hunter's quiet advanced. The trained warrior's eyes watched as the disguiser's face wrinkled in disgust and a pulse of darkness was sent out. Instinctively, Fritz slid beneath and returned to a stand quickly to place himself between Vashti and the creature.
"Vashti, listen to me right now! Get up and leave, and I swear if you disobey me I will ignore all your texts and attempts to make conversation," Fritz shouted.
Naturally, ignoring Vashti would mean that she would just attempt to get into more trouble. Quite frankly, it was an endless loop of having to save her from whatever precarious situation she managed to place herself in. The reaper swore the brunette was a magnet for trouble considering the numerous occasions he had to play hero. A tight, two-handed grip was made on the hero's sword as he awaited the terror's next move. An opening was required to get close and deliver a fatal blow while not allowing the disguiser to slip away into the night.
Vashti had tried getting up but felt like she didn't have anymore strength to hold herself up. She was forced to lay on the ground, unaware of Fritz being nearby. She was looking to the side, still trying to force herself up when Fritz was standing in front of her. First off.... If I could get up, I would have done it by now. Second, don't threaten me. Her face had turned into a frown, he would pay for threatening her like that. It wasn't like she had asked to be saved again, she was trying to do her job before things went from bad to worse. It took a lot of effort, but she slowly had pulled herself to her feet having placed her sword in the ground to hold her weight up slightly. She breathed in and out, thankfully Fritz was standing between her and the Disguiser else it would likely be the end of her if it chose to attack.
Wait a minute, what is he doing here anyway? He doesn't believe we are connected, isn't he supposed to go on missions and stuff? She couldn't help but feel somewhat confused, hesitating to move despite the fact that Fritz had threatened her with ignoring her communications if she didn't flee from the scene. "Focus on her, instead of me." The comment wasn't a plea, it had come out as a demand because she was still trying to catch her breath from being attacked prior. I don't have the energy to move even if I wanted to, I need to rest for a moment.... She thought to herself as she looked over at Fritz and the Disguiser that she still believed was a shifter. I don't understand any of this.... I don't mind him coming in to save me but, this shifter has powers that aren't normal for its kind. Something just doesn't seem right to me. Not to mention the last time I talked with this suspect, she didn't seem interested in trying to kill me off. Why the sudden change?
She couldn't help but think to herself that she must have been in real danger, if Fritz had felt a need to step in and save her once again. Though it was between criminals and lower ranked Terrors. I'm lucky he came by when he did, I think I would have been a goner if he hadn't showed up at this very moment. She thought to herself, finally feeling like she had gotten some of her energy back after being attacked by the Disguiser. "Ah.... another toy I can play with before you die." the Disguiser answered in reply, trying to decide on if it would attack Fritz or Vashti first. Why is she talking like this? She makes it sound like we are her prey or something.... Another breath as she tried focusing on the Disguiser once more. The Disguiser sent another pulse of darkness towards Fritz and Vashti, counting on one of them being hit in the process. She lifted her sword from the ground, unsure of how she would go about dodging that attack.
There was a hefty silence between the hunter and the terror, a quiet where Fritz swore he could hear the dropping of a pin. The trees rustled from the subtle wind, grass following suit and the stars hung in the air like distant spectators. Moonlight acted as the source of light, allowing the reaper to get a view of his target, the one he was blocking from Vashti. There was a moment taken for concern when the brunette had yet to rise from her position on the ground; perhaps she had been knocked unconscious? Glancing back to check was definitely not a good idea given the nature of the darkness before him alongside the abilities it possessed. The time would act as the creature's vantage, the shadows working for the disguiser. A slight nervousness entered Fritz's gut, but his face remained void of any emotions since displaying them would serve as an advantage for the enemy.
Shortly, Fritz managed to pick up the sounds of movement which suggested that Vashti was trying to get up. Despite the sound and desire to check the brunette's safety, the hunter's eyes remained locked on the still disguiser. There was an inhuman grin across its mouth, the sadistic kind that these creatures enjoyed wearing. When he heard his friend's demand to remain focused on her, the hero merely nodded. Only a second was taken to ponder on whether or not Vashti was aware of what exactly it was, bu that could be dealt with after the terror was a pile of dust and they were both safe to converse.
"Then be careful, cause if you get hurt now it's on you," Fritz said while his blue eyes remained on the creature.
Patience was key in battle, and the hunter was displaying that with his stationary pose; he wanted the disguiser to make the first move. There was a chance that during an attack recovery the hero could manage to slip past and put an end to the dastardly monster. Fritz's breathing remained calm, being a seasoned warrior easily showing in the reaper's stature and attitude in the midst of a dangerous fight. When the disguiser began to speak, the hunter's eyes narrowed a tad. The manner of which the terror talk was similar to a majority of disguiser which was treating its enemy like the prey. He was usually not one for battlefield banter, but perhaps by indulging the terror in it, he could discover an open.
"You will be surprised when you're the one with a game over," the hunter responded.
When the next pulse game, Fritz automatic went down into low crouch and allowed the pulse to pass above him. Once it passed, the warrior charged forward in hopes of scoring some damage on the creature. The hero managed to get close, swinging the long blade towards the creature only to find it get abruptly stopped. A dark shield had been spawned, and in reaction the hero retreated back a few steps from the creature's location. A tighter grip was taken on his sword alongside a momentary glance back to make certain that Vashti was alright.
Vashti listened to his words, taking them to heart. Of course it would be all on her, that is why she had taken this job, so that she could save others as he had done for her so long ago. She would nod her head in agreement, but remain in her spot. It wouldn't matter what species this creature was, she wasn't to be underestimated. At what cost though? She thought to herself, trying to focus so that she could regain her energy to move. The darkness pulse had come straight for them, Fritz had dodged. It is coming too fast and I haven't yet regained my energy.... She jumped to the side, barely missing the darkness pulse by an inch but it had cost her in the process, the sword she had chosen to hold onto had cut her arm slightly when she had landed on her side next to it. She gripped the sword in her hand, slowly pushing herself to her feet.
She watched Fritz swing in to hit the creature just for it to create a shield to block them. I don't think it can create the shield and attack at the same time, I need Fritz to stop blocking it from me so that it can focus on me so that he can focus directly on it. There was a high chance that Fritz wouldn't agree to such a plan, but then again she wasn't exactly asking him now was she? A brief second of Fritz checking on her, she would have moved from her spot with her sword held in her hands as she rushed towards the Disguiser to try and attack it from its side. Come on now, take the bait and attack me.... She thought to herself in frustration. Though she was sure the Disguiser would hold its shield up against Fritz, she was positive it might lower it if it believed it could kill her in one more attack. To her surprise, the Disguiser's shield had disappeared. It was as she had first thought, it had believed her to be weaker and had taken the bait to send another attack out at her.
I can't distract it forever. She could feel her energy going down again, thankfully the Disguiser was trying to attack her instead of replacing its shield against Fritz. The Disguiser sent another darkness pulse towards her, she leaned back, once more barely missing as she moved in to try and hit the Disguiser once more. Oh no, my energy is almost gone again. She thought to herself. "Game over." The Disguiser had taken the quote exactly from Fritz, though it hadn't been paying attention to him.
There were numerous calculating thoughts that Fritz took as he looked towards the disguiser, its darkness shield something his blade could not break. Being a mere necromancer did not bode while considering the corpses he could control were all inside the house and would take time to arrange themselves and exit the building. To make matters worse, the elite hunter stood alone without any other TRS agents and his only ally consisting of an injured and tired police officer. This was definitely not a good situation to enter, especially since the disguiser already knew of the reaper's presence; that was always an issue when dealing with these creatures. Matters only worsened when he glanced to make certain that Vashti was alright to discover that she was already on her feet and running towards the terror, sword in hand.
"VASHTI?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Fritz shouted, concern entering his voice.
Before the hero could do anything to cease the brunette's actions, she had rushed the disguiser to attack it from the side. The disguiser's shield lowered, a toothy and predator-like grin pulling the corner's of its lips up. Clearly, the dastardly creatures had plans to attempt and kill the police officer who had rushed it. Which meant that Fritz had to save her, especially considering Vashti was his closest friend in this world and despite her crazy insistence of them being soulmates, he still cared about her. In a matter of moments, Fritz was rushing forward, gripping his sword's handle so tight his knuckles turned paler. His blue eyes watched as Vashti dodged another darkness pulse, which he felt slightly relieved that she did, but there was still danger lurking.
With eyes focused on the monster now, watching as the darkness manipulation began to touch its hand as the creature prepared to end this game, but it would not get that far. Before the disguiser could finish forming its strike, the blade of Fritz's sword carved across the creature's back. It left a long mark of murky darkness which revealed the creatures true form for a moment, but the warrior was not finished with disposing the creature yet. The terror was still recovering from the initial strike when the elite hunter gained ground and plunged the sword point into the creatures lower back. He took a moment for dialogue, almost like the heroes in action movies.
"For you, it is indeed game over," he whispered to the disguiser.
Using his strength, the sword ripped through the creature, up the back and through the head to assure its destruction. Once the sword was freed from the disguiser body, the terror's form crumbled and turned into a black ash that littered the ground. The reaper breathed deeper, his heart rate was heightened while he looked at Vashti. After a few moments of deep breathing, Fritz recovered and was capable to speak, the countenance of his face making it obvious that he was not pleased with the police officer's actions.
"WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!" He began rather loudly until realizing that it was night. "You could have been killed. That was both foolish and reckless. What if I had not gotten here in time and the creature attacked you? You would have died. Honestly, Vashti, be more careful."
Now, considering Vashti was a 300 year old woman, most people would not have expected Fritz to scold her. In the reaper's defense, he was thousands of years older. Quickly, Fritz forcefully flicked his sword to the side, discarding some of the ash substance that remained; he would clean the remainder when he got home. Afterwards, his left hand grabbed the scabbard while the right carefully slide the sword's blade into it. While he looked at Vashti, Fritz crossed his arms and waited for her reply to his various questions; might as well provide a chance for her to defend her actions.
Vashti didn't have time to regret her choice in attacking the Disguiser, Fritz words rang through her ears but she had ignored him for the sake of focusing on the monster in front of her. If she got distracted now it would be in vain for attacking the Disguiser in the first place because she would be dead and Fritz wouldn't be any step closer into killing it. I know what I'm doing.... I just hope you take notice quickly... She justified her actions in her head as she advanced forward. She had given Fritz just enough time to attack the Disguiser since the shield had been lowered but at the cost of her own life, she couldn't help but feel disappointed she was going to die just like this. The Disguiser had paused sending another darkness pulse at her, to her surprised Fritz hadn't hesitated and attacked the Disguiser, giving Vashti enough time to take a few steps back so that it gave her distance between herself and the Disguiser.
Fritz had killed the Disguiser and she couldn't help but stare in disbelief. There is no way in hell that was a shifter, what the hell was that thing? Fritz would have come to save me, sure, but he was here too fast which leaves only one question. Why? She had to assume he was already here before she had gotten here, or at least within a few minutes. She was taking in deep breaths herself, This is going to be one hell of a police report.... She thought to herself, somewhat annoyed but not as annoyed as she would feel when Fritz words echoed into her ears. "I think!" She paused for a moment, "I gave you an opening to attack her!" She couldn't bring herself to call it an 'it' not until she found out exactly what they had been dealing with a second ago. She stood up straight as she looked over at Fritz. "Death is a risk one takes when becoming a police officer, further more, I'd like to hear the reasoning for you being here."
He is a hunter, unless there was a Terror in the area he wouldn't have been nearby. I could give soulmates as the excuse except he was here too soon. "You were here way too fast for it to be because she attacked me, so soulmates isn't the reason." Of course she had noticed the shifter seemed to have more abilities than expected but being a Terror named a Disguiser hadn't crossed her mind just yet. He has some explaining to do. She thought to herself, turning it all back onto him. Fritz might have been willing to place his sword back in it's scabbard but she wasn't ready to disarm herself just yet. She had to make sure the house was completely empty after all. It was dark outside, with sword in her hand she had moved back into the house to check each room to make sure it was empty so that her report could be accurate when she finished writing it up. She placed her sword back in it's sheath, now that she knew they were alone she was able to look at the damage she had taken. Plenty of bruises thanks to that Disguiser and a cut on her arm because of her sword when she had jumped out of the way from the darkness pulse.
She had exited the house and moved towards her car, grabbing the radio. "The shifter as my suspect has been killed." She paused, "No point in sending anybody out, details will be in the report once I get back." She let go of the radio and closed the police car door. Fritz, you yelled at me for helping you. Who would I be if I didn't try and help out even if you did believe it to be reckless.... She thought to herself before sighing. "Thank you for saving me, again."
A swift survey of the area was taken with the power of Fritz's soul vision, the greyscale appearing before his eyes and not revealing hidden foes. The eyes of an undead did possess some use after all and once satisfied the reaper's gaze returned to Vashti. It seemed common that the warrior found himself playing the part of her hero and making certain that she was safe. Luck always seemed to be on the brunette's side since Fritz would oftentimes find himself around the area when she required assistance. It always seemed to be convenient timing, although, the reaper would guess that Vashti would insist on it being due to the soulmate bond he still lacked belief in (or at least, she did insist on it a lot).
A sigh escaped Fritz's mouth when Vashti began to insist on giving him an opening. The statement was truthful, but nonetheless possessed risk should he have lacked the speed to slay the nightmarish beast. As much as he desired it, Fritz did not possess a perfect amount of fighting which could easily be a downfall should someone attempt to test the limits of his abilities. The repear knew better than to hesitate, he could always fight back those battle anxieties and his swordsmanship was well tuned due to thousands of years spent training and honing in on them.
"You recklessly did so! What if I was not fast enough in getting here?" Fritz countered. "There are always other methods to win a battle instead of self-sacrifice."
When the officer stood and looked at him, mentioning how death was a risk of doing her job, Fritz frowned. He disliked the concept of others sacrificing their lives and on a hypocritical note he would do it himself. The reaper crossed his arms, regarding the brunette with narrowed eyes. She asked about his reasoning for being here and Fritz raised an eyebrow. The blue-haired man had thought that the uniform alongside the manner of which the creature died would have given away the mystery, but mentally he defended Vashti because she had recently been knocked around by the terror. Naturally, the concept of soulmates was mentioned again, but the reaper decided to ignore it for the time being.
"Doing my job. I'm a hunter and that," he pointed at the ash, "is the remains of the terror you just saw me defeat."
The reasoning for his presence in the area was explained simply in a more neutral tone of speech. As Vashti began to move towards the house, Fritz followed in silence behind her. Although, it was mostly to make certain there were no more terrors hiding alongside the disguiser and to make certain the brunette did not manage to get into more trouble during the night. Quietly, the warrior's sword sat within the scabbard's protective covering while Fritz listened for sounds of lurking criminals. The reaper continued following, finding little reason in leaving currently seeing as there would be plenty of time to write a report to his own superiors; he could not and did not require basic human necessities after all. Fritz was unscathed from the attack, a rarity caused from a battle ended shortly in his favor. While Vashti spoke on the radio, he silently lingered and listened to what was spoken. Then when the thank-you came, the reaper favored the brunette with a shrug.
"It seems to be what I do. Besides, I am a hunter and it's my job to save citizens from those scenarios," Fritz responded. "I suppose since my work here is done I best finish up my job before I return to headquarters."
Naturally, the reaper would radio his superiors after a final inspection of the area to make certain that no evidence of more terrors was overturned. The hunter also planned to do a perimeter search in case something small had decided to slip away upon the realization that the disguiser had been killed. It was a simple task and once that assured that the other occupants in the nearby houses would be safer from any terror threats.
Vashti dismissed his worry with a wave of her hand, "There wasn't time for self-sacrifice." She corrected him, though she believed it because of her injuries, it didn't mean that it was the truth. Of course it was also her job, so even though it wasn't the first time she would remind him of such a thing, it wouldn't likely be the last time either. She couldn't help but frown at his face expression, figuring he was one to talk because he would do exactly what she had just done moments ago. Maybe he didn't like the fact I did it.... I should test that theory later. She thought to herself before changing the subject. She rolled her eyes at his comment but couldn't hold back her surprise when he claimed that shifter was a Terror. "A Terror?" She shook her head slightly. I guess that would make sense. She thought to herself with a sigh before frowning again.
"Hey, what is that look, just because your dressed as a hunter doesn't mean that you would have been attacking a Terror. There are plenty of criminals that I had a hard time with that you stepped in to assist." She stated plainly, not amused that it seemed to her that she was supposed to figure out that it was a Terror just because she had more powers than the normal shifter. She had noticed him follow her around the house and back to her car when she had radioed in. It seemed only fitting to thank her crush for saving her yet again. Seeing him shrug had somewhat bothered her, as if he had brushed her off for being a fly but she ignored it. Then came his comment and she couldn't hold back her frown from him. "A citizen?" She asked, interrupting him as he mentioned going back to HQ. "You didn't just compare me to others!" She snapped, quick to anger because he always seemed to be doing that.
He may have friendzoned her and she may been crushing on him, but there was no way in hell he was going to get away with calling her a citizen, again. "If you so, you have another thing coming." She snapped, already having an answer because she planned on never being called a citizen ever again. "I think TRS could use another member." She finished, not interested in hearing reasons why she shouldn't join.
When it came to Vashti, there seemed to be no proper method to deal with her stubborn behavior. Even proving her wrong did not assist in ceasing the strong-willed attitude the woman held, which had always surprised Fritz. Although, it never helped when he was attempting to convince her what was best to do and scolding her for those reckless pursuits she participated in from time to time. The reaper's eyes narrowed when she waved her hand dismissively at him and insisted there was no time for self-sacrifice. An annoyed sigh escaped his mouth as he crossed his arms, a grumpier expression touching his face. There had been a possibility of a sacrifice in the situation, especially considering how close the disguiser had gotten to killing Vashti in those moments she distracted the creature.
"Yeah, because you were lucky that I was fast enough to react. A fraction later and you could have been severely hurt or worse," Fritz scolded. "You need to be less reckless, you know? Making decisions like that is what could get you kill."
Once again, the statement held some hypocrisy to it considering Fritz had a consistent streak of being reckless. A majority of the injuries the warrior received were from those moments spent protecting an innocent and sacrificing his own well-being for their sake. Despite the high consequences that would arrive with his second death, nothing seemed to stop the blue-haired man from placing himself between a bystander and an attack. When Vashti mentioned the terror again, Fritz merely offered her a nod of confirmation in response to the question. Shortly afterwards, the brunette began to question the look on his face which merely caused Fritz to look away.
"Yeah, but I thought the whole 'turning to dust' thing would make it obvious. Plus it's not like I am in uniform every time I save you," Fritz responded. "Think about it, I arrived here way earlier than when you usually need saving. That was because I had work to do."
Once Fritz felt that everything was said, he turned to complete the rest of his tasks, or at least he did until he heard Vashti snapping at him. Upon hearing it, the reaper glanced back at the police officer with a neutral expression. In situations that involved terrors and hunters, he admittedly considered her a citizen; in his mind there was no problem with that. Although, it seemed the brunette disliked the idea of being referred to as a citizen. An impassive expression was kept on the reaper's face while he listened to her snapping, at least until she reached the end. His eyes widened and in a few moments he found himself completely turned around the to face, taking a few steps closer.
"What?! But you are happy being a police officer, aren't you? Why do you need to change to being a hunter? Besides, hunting is more dangerous considering a criminal may hesitate, but a terror will rip you apart the first chance it gets," Fritz responded.
The displeasure about this development was obvious in Fritz's voice; he would prefer if Vashti remained a law enforcement officer. At least humans could, at times, have some hesitation. Terrors on the other hand were monsters who only desired to kill those who opposed them and play puppet to Zeredah. It made the creatures ruthless and by all definitions dangerous, which meant Fritz preferred keeping Vashti far away from them.
Vashti wasn't going to hear anything about it. I know, but if I can help you I'll be damned if I don't at least try. She thought to herself, appearing speechless because she didn't have anything to say on the subject. "Oh my god, give me a break. It isn't everyday I come across a Terror that looked like..." She pauses, "Well that one looked exactly like a shifter that I was investigating regarding a case." She shakes her head slightly, forcing herself to get back on topic. "That looked like a citizen, it isn't a normal appearance for them." She assumed he only knew it was a Terror because he had been a hunter so long and she hadn't joined, choosing to be a police officer instead. "Sure, sure, blame your reason for being here earlier than normal because you were on the job..." She answered sarcastically, not buying it.
That wasn't to say that he wasn't on the job, she just didn't think it was his only reason. Then he had the nerve to call her a citizen. Fritz had glanced back at her, he didn't seem phased at the fact she was snapping at him, in fact it seemed like the world would keep turning even if she had lost her nerve on him, that is until she mentioned becoming a member of TRS. Fritz had turned around to face her completely and she couldn't help but feel slightly satisfied to have his utter most attention. His words went in her ear and out the other, she couldn't help but gain a smile on her face. It seemed to her that it would be her chance to prove to him how exactly she planned on getting her revenge over his little slip up on calling her a citizen in the first place. "Oh Fritz, I love how you know me so well...." She was talking about the fact he knew she meant becoming a hunter without her having a need to say it this time around.
"Who said anything about a change? I'm staying a police officer, I'm just going to add hunter to my title." She couldn't help but feel somewhat thrilled at the idea of Fritz having to comprehend that she wasn't giving up one job over the other. She couldn't help but look down at her arm, having been caught up in the moment she had forgotten that she had cut it from her sword from earlier. She turned her back towards Fritz to make her way over to the police car, her goal was to find the first aid to clean it up, the last thing she wanted was for Fritz to try and drag her to see a medic or worse, a hospital.
When his comment on recklessness remained unanswered, Fritz presumed that perhaps he managed to win this round of menial fighting. Although, there was no pride or triumph displayed in his countenance since, admittedly, he disliked having to bicker with Vashti about these matters. Death was a frightening experience and remained something that continued to haunt the reaper in the presence. Whether it was due to the horrible manner he died or rather the lasting reminder of those final moments before the lights went out; it still made him shake when he thought in depth about the incident. His death had birthed a determination to make certain that others would not have to face the cruel reality. It caused him to drop the topic when Vashti ceased speaking about with the presumption of him breaking through. When she continued on, explaining how she should not be expected to recognize a disguiser, Fritz crossed his arms and slightly narrowed his eyes. In his opinion, law enforcement officers should receive this information, but it was clear that the brunette had not. There were also various signs that the hunter thought were generic and well-known, but then again he had been working for the TRS since the day it opened.
“Shifters don't have darkness manipulation. You had to have realized something was wrong when it began attacking you! I know that if anything, you know information about the species here,” Fritz responded in a grumpy manner. “Also, that is the point of a disguiser, to hide as a person.”
It appeared that tonight would be spent to some degree bickering with Vashti. They did not always fight, sometimes able to hold a decent conversation, but they were by all means prone to it. In reaction to the sarcastic comment, Fritz's narrowed more. Reapers were one of the few creatures able to find a disguiser when it was hiding, so naturally he had been called to duty! Knowing this, the hero replied hastily after the comment had been made.
“I’m a reaper! I can see disguiser when they are hiding so of course I was called to work!” Fritz retorted in a snappy manner, making it obvious he was grumpy. “You’re just not buying it so you can keep insisting it is soulmates, which we are not!”
There was concern when Vashti mentioned joining the TRS since Fritz knew she would desire to become a hunter. None of the other jobs necessarily suited the brunette considering how danger prone she could be. The fact his friend was a law enforcement officer already informed him that she liked being on the front lines protecting people. Although, the next bit was something that the reaper had not been expecting. When she stated that she would merely be adding hunter to the job list, Fritz flinched slightly. That sounded like a recipe for over-working and becoming overwhelmed by violence. He already seen plenty of gruesome scenes as a hunter and he could only imagine how stressful both his and Vashti’s jobs could become; having both seemed like a horrible idea.
“You are not doing both! Pick one or the other!” Fritz exclaimed, concern also in his voice.
He disliked the idea of Vashti doing two stressful jobs since she was his friend and naturally he worried about his well-being. Despite the verbal fights they had on occasion, the reaper still held care for his closest friend.
Vashti rolled her eyes at his comment, of course shifters didn't use darkness manipulation but that didn't prove that it was a Disguiser. "I never said that didn't know anything was wrong, all I said was that I wasn't aware it was a Disguiser." She corrected, making sure that she wouldn't make that mistake again. Come to think of it, I think I heard somewhere that they were able to hide as a person.... I was just too focused on work that it must have slipped my mind.... plus I never ran into one.... but this made a huge impact on my life. I'm never going to be put in this situation ever again. She thought to herself determined to do her job even better now. She frowned when he claimed he had been called into work and seemed to once more not take being soulmates into consideration. She wasn't pleased but there was no point in pushing the subject further, he would come to realize sooner or later that they were soulmates else she'd have to admit to being wrong for a very long time and she didn't think it to be possible since she had feelings towards his well being. The subject had been changed and she had found a perfect way to get back at him and get more practice at killing off the Terrors so that she could make the world a better and safer place.
She had finally found her first aid, cleaning up the cut before turning around to face Fritz as she attempted to wrap the bandage around her arm. Fritz didn't seem to like the idea of her taking both jobs but her mind was made up and she had the perfect reply back to him when he told her that she had to pick between them. "But Fritz.... I can do as I wish, we aren't soulmates after all." The comment had come out sarcastic. She was clearly upset that he was determined to think otherwise, he had some nerve trying to tell her what she could or couldn't do when they were only friends or at least that is how she saw it. If he really cared about her well being than maybe he would spend less time claiming they aren't soulmates and try and understand why she would believe them to be. "Regardless." She would continue, "I will do both and that is that." Now that she was starting to feel slightly better over her choices she wasn't going to let frustration against Fritz be her reason to join TRS to become a hunter, she would be doing it to get more knowledge against the Terrors and extra training.
Generally, verbal disputes were viewed as a negative in life, but this happened often between Fritz and Vashti; or at least that was the reaper's opinion. Considering they both bore reckless behavior, a desire to protect the other and a strong-willed attitude it was fairly easy for these fights to last for long periods of time. When Vashti stated that she was aware of the strange behavior the "shifter" acted, Fritz found himself calming to a degree; at least she noticed. Alas, it did not redeem her lacking in information about terrors, which the expert hunter would frown upon despite the sensibility since the officer had never received training. Disguisers were one of the only known terrors to be capable of manipulating darkness after all. There was a need to inform her of the point, perhaps it would assist in keeping safe.
"Disguisers are the only ones capable to control darkness, therefore it should have been a simple deduction of species," the reaper grumbled back.
People would definitely argue that Fritz was being rather unfair considering Vashti had never gone through the various classes about terrors. Although, the reaper was merely informing her to insure that the brunette would be safe in the future; somebody had to make certain of that after all. Today, unfortunately, Vashti did not seem keen on assisting the blue-haired man of his intent considering her sudden decision to join the TRS solely because of him stating she was a 'citizen'. The reaper had thought the word was harmless, but his friend had thoroughly demonstrated that he was sorely mistaken. With narrowed, blue eyes, Fritz watched as the law enforcement officer bandaged the small cut she had obtained in the altercation with the disguiser. Despite his arguing, Vashti refused to give into his words, although, he would never expect her to.
The sarcastic comment about soulmates caused Fritz to stiffen due to the fact she was using the comment as reasoning to continue the path for a second job. The reaper was infuriated with the concept of the brunette taking two high stress jobs. Shortly, it was becoming blatantly obvious that Vashti had no intentions of listening to his complaints, but the man would still attempt to steer her off this reckless path.
"Vashti, I am serious! Two jobs of this high of stress will not do anything good for you! Now for the love of the gods, stop feeling the need to prove a point and stick with one!" Fritz responded in a rather irritated manner.
There were always these high-tension moments when the reaper was clueless what to say to Vashti in order to steer her off a negative path. His friend had always been extremely stubborn and always reluctant to give in even during moments were the opposing proved to be correct. At times, it could be admirable the manner of which she stuck to her guns, although, there were always those moments where it proved rather infuriating.
"No, you are not doing both! It's a horrible idea, Vashti, I am serious," the reaper responded back hastily.
A foreboding feeling entered Fritz's gut, it was becoming increasingly obvious that Vashti had decided to ignore him. Determination mixed with stubbornness was written in the entire conversation, which meant that arguing with the brunette was becoming futile, which concerned the reaper for his friend's health.
Vashti couldn't help but roll her eyes at Fritz, "Just because you go to class and learn about the different Terrors, doesn't mean that you know everything about them or the fact that it was a Terror." She snapped, "Though it is true that a shifter couldn't manipulate darkness, that isn't to say that somebody with half blood with a gifted couldn't have gotten it, or that they could have been something else entirely!" It didn't matter how long she had been living, since it was possible for some species to breed, it meant there was a high chance that it was something else, it wasn't guaranteed to be a Terror. The last thing she wanted to do was possibly mistake a citizen for being a Terror. "But Fritz, I can't do that. One the one hand I love my job as a Police Officer but on the other hand I don't have much knowledge about the Terrors." She was just giving him an excuse to have both, the last thing she wanted was this conversation to end already.
A small smile formed on her lips, "Prove what point?" She couldn't help but feel somewhat happy that he seemed concerned about her well being. "Now lets see, which one should be my main when the other is my hobby...." She teased, clearly not done with throwing the second job in his face. Fritz was determined to try and get her to change her mind but she wasn't about to give in to him. "Let me think it over." She suddenly reaches out to try and wrap her arms around Fritz to hug him. Giving Fritz hugs always gave her joy, it would also make her feel better but that wasn't to say that she always managed to get one, it did after all take two people to have a hug successfully. "Fritz." She would answer calmly, "I'm doing both jobs." He wasn't going to tell her otherwise, not even if it was very dangerous to go after Terrors on purpose.
