Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
Sage was good at his job. Even if it was boring sometimes he was still going to do a good job. Today was one of the few days where he didn't really have anything planned. Usually he had store rooms to check and weapons to order and people to interview and Terrors to fight, but today wasn't one of his regular days. He had an open schedule. So what did he do? He sat outside watching the sparring matches taking place between the different Hunters and apprentices. It was interesting to watch people fight and practice and see how other people went about using their abilities and powers within a fight.
Currently Sage was wrapped deep within a large blanket as he watched a young boy turn the snow on the field into a whip of water against a fire user. The fire user was probably at a disadvantage in abilities, but she was obviously more trained, as she managed to dodge the boy's attacks and use her fire in a way that forced the other into a defensive position instead of offensive. She was very skilled, that was easy to see, but she still had openings. Every so often her footing would falter and the water user would have an opening to attack. Usually he was too slow to take the opportunity, instead being too concerned about her flames.
After a few moments the fight ended and the fire user helped her sparring partner up off the ground with a chuckle. Predictably, she had won, but Sage was almost annoyed at the missed opportunities for the loser to turn the tides. More people came and went on the sparring grounds as Sage watched from the comfort of his blanket cocoon. Every so often a single person would arrive searching for somebody to fight and they'd see Sage sitting off to the side. He could almost predict their thoughts as the considered fighting him.
Either they knew who he was, in which case they cringed at the thought of him using his gruesome ability against them, or they didn't know who he was, at which his general look of a sickly dying person made them consider him too easy to spar with. Sage scoffed. He would love to do some sparring today, but it was appearing as if today would just be a day for him to watch everybody else fight instead of actually fighting himself. He sighed as he watched another group of hunters step onto the field.
As they chatted before the fight Sage heard footsteps crunch in the snow approaching him. He pulled his blanket closer around his frame before turning to look at who had decided that he was who they wanted to be around. Perhaps somebody was looking to spar? That would certainly be more exciting than sitting there. As long as it wasn't somebody who wanted something from him. Today was supposed to be his easy day.
Winter was Lilith’s natural season. The cold, brisk air cut against her cheeks. It was a numbing sensation that brought a precise mental clarity that left the world sharp and icy. Everything seemed clearer in the cold. She was born into a fit of snow, and she had witnessed many souls leaving their bodies against the blood-soaked white. The imagery always struck her with a breathtaking force–the crisp tendrils of red leaking warmth from a still body. Her lust for blood was exemplified in the chilling season, exacerbated by the thrill of poetic visions. Dressed in her uniform as a Hunter Lieutenant, one could see that she was not quite present. As she walked the Terror Response Syndicate’s grounds, there was a blankness in her eyes that gave away her brain’s affinity for wandering. ”Lieutenant.” She nodded absentmindedly at the recognition passerby’s offered, but couldn’t be bothered to acquiesce their needs for attention. Lilith’s unit was safely within the confines of town, and the wintery wonderland that had become Lorsette hampered the movements of even the Terrors. She was, for the most part, unneeded for the time being. [break][break] The lack of action was acting adversely towards her homicidal tendencies. This is, in part, why she chose to wear a black cloak in addition to her uniform. Two slits in the fabric allowed her wings to show comfortably, while the long sleeves hid her pale arms. Against the snow, Lilith could have almost disappeared. What was genuinely difficult to hide, however, were the red, inflamed cuts up and down her shoulders and arms. They were surely scabbed by now. But if circumstances did not allow her to satiate her desires, they would no doubt be ripped open. The townspeople could not know that, in their safety, they were thrust into the danger that was Lilith. Even less suspecting, she surmised, were her comrades. After all, to them, she was the picture of loyalty. It was a deceptive persona that accompanied her to on the walk to the sparring grounds. Although generally harmless, fights between peers could cause injury. And injury meant blood. [break][break] Of course, Lilith herself had no intention of sparring. For one, it was rare that a Hunter of her stature would spar anyone. For another, Lilith did not have much confidence in herself when it came to not kill someone–or, at least, gravely wounding them. Furthermore, she was without anyway to conceal the expression that overcame her in those moments. At least, she could watch. Lilith nodded unceremoniously at the pale hunter sitting off to the side of the arena. She recognized him from her unit, and knew his name. She couldn’t exactly be concerned with him right then. In her uniform, Lilith commanded respect naturally, and she had every intention of using it to fulfill her hidden agenda under the shadow of encouraging her subordinates. ”Surely, you all don’t plan on standing around chatting all day. Maybe if you spent more time training and less time chatting you could obtain a rank worthy of some actual respect,” She called from the sidelines, her voice ringing with profound clarity over the quiet snow and voices. Lilith was known for her directness, but the harshness was perhaps even too much for her.
Sage was pretty interested in seeing the next sparring match, but apparently they were taking their sweet time in actually getting started. He supposed he could wait for them to start, he wasn't doing much else, but he really would have preferred they be fighting at this point.
As the footsteps walked past him Sage turned and realized that the person who had just arrived was, in fact, his superior officer. He had never really spoken to her before, but he had seen her around the compound before, and she was definitely worthy of her high rank. In battle she seemed to be very effective, but if rumors were to be believed then she was a bit more on the gruesome side with her battles.
Sage wondered if she'd be willing to spar with him. He wasn't exactly keen on having her judge his ability, but if she was okay with blood on the battlefield then she'd probably be okay with Reforge. He was still considering this as she began to shout at the people still just standing around talking on the sparring arena. Her voice was sharp and clear and at her words were just as sharp. Sage might not have put it exactly in those words, but he couldn't help but laugh as she shouted it.
With those words Sage gathered up his blanket and, with it wrapped around his shoulders almost as if to mimic her cloak, he got up and moved over to where Lilith was on the sidelines.
"I highly doubt sparring against each other would be able to improve their ability in battle much, but you're right in that they won't get much from standing around" He stated slowly with a smirk as he approached her. Sage didn't project his words as she did, since he wasn't really looking for the group on the field to hear him, but instead he was just looking to strike up a conversation with the raven haired woman. He stood next to her and looked back out towards the people, who seemed to actually be starting the fight now after the prompt from Lilith.
He squinted his red eyes at the battle as they began. There was four of them, fighting in groups of two, but they didn't seem to be elite hunters. It also seemed as if they were a lot more nervous now that Lilith was there. Was he not worrying enough? Probably not. She was both higher ranked, and generally just more of an intimidating person than he was.
Sage stood with a slouch as he considered this lack of authority he might have and whether or not to ask her to spar with him. Sure he knew she was good in battle, but that just meant that if he didn't want to just lose outright he'd to cut his own limbs off. It wasn't exactly a desirable situation, but he would definitely prefer to fight rather than just stand on the sidelines and watch the hunters and apprentices come and go. He was still considering this as he looked back towards Lilith to try and read her expression and decide what she was thinking.
Her presence was–understandably–intimidating for the youngsters in the arena, but as she stood at the side of the snow-covered dirt pit she couldn’t say she cared that much. She had successfully mobilized them, but given their discomfort at being put on the spot she could already surmise that they were most likely unskilled. Seasoned fighters would have no reason to be unnerved. Pity, really, since it almost certainly meant that they would be incapable of fulfilling her needs. Folding her arms, Lilith rested on the rickety, wooden beams that were barely holding enough of their structure to outline the confines of the arena, resting a boot on one of the lower rungs with a sigh of distaste. She supposed she ought to take a moment to recognize the figure of Sage besides her. The two hardly knew each other, in spite of him being one of her sergeants. Still, it was her responsibility to know of those she watched over, and he had his own reputation. Lilith scoffed subtly at his remarks, waving a hand in his direction in both dismissal and agreement. He wasn’t wrong, but it had still been worth a shot. They were dumb and inexperienced. Sounded like a good training opportunity. [break][break] She watched them fumble around some, noting their potential. They wouldn’t have gotten even this far if they didn’t have something to offer, and the dynamic of fighting in pairs was rather interesting. Although not unusual, it was not a tactic Lilith herself practiced often. She paused in the quiet, looking them over critically in their menial throws at one another. ”Isn’t it our job then, dear Sage, to educate them?” she regarded him with a cool expression–a sideways glance and subsequent smirk. She turned back to the squabble, resting her chin on her hand with a slight smile to herself. The prospect of the next few moments excited her, and Lilith bit her lip despite herself. Her black wings twitched softly at her hips, a black smudge on the snowy landscape; a fallen angel who truly deserved the status. Even as her thirst for blood consumed her, she knew that, should she ever die, hell would be eagerly waiting for her. It was a true wonder, really, that there were not a plethora of spirits walking the earth with their last living visions being her face. But then again, Lilith had never been afraid to die. [break][break] Using her wings to pull her body back into an upright position, Lilith wandered out into the arena as a boulder was hefted across the snow. She seemed unfazed as it passed close enough to send her hair flying. Stepping between the two pairs, one of them was abrupted promptly enough to force them to screech to a stop in the snow–albeit was mostly in vain, since she was going far too fast to stop. Lilith gripped her wrist and promptly chucked her into a nearby snowbank. Rubbing her hands to rid them of the snow that had fallen there, she was too self-absorbed to note her subordinates grunting and groaning. ”It would seem,” Lilith said loudly so that anyone nearby could hear, ”Sergeant Sage is unsatisfied with your progress.” She pivoted at this, motioning with an extended hand Sage’s position nearby. ”As such, it would seem fitting that you learn a thing or two from him.” She regarded Sage across the snow with a tilted head, deviously quizzical. ”Four lowly students, versus a Sergeant.” Lilith walked slowly towards Sage, lowering her voice to an uncharacteristic softness, and nearing her own face close to his, ”Or is that too much a challenge?”
Sage hadn't exactly been sure what he expected in a conversation with Lilith. He supposed he had been hoping to talk to her since she was higher up than him. Maybe get some tips on how he could improve at his job, but Sage realized as she waved her hand in his direction that he might have picked to wrong person. He raised an eyebrow slightly as he turned back towards the people on the field. Was that meant to be dismissive or in agreement? Sage was never really good at conversations so he fell silent as he continued to watch the people spar.
They weren't horrible, just nervous it seemed. There were a few moments of actual promise in their moves, but most of it was filtered through the lens of higher ups watching them. There was a few moments of silence before Lilith spoke up again. Sage looked at her out of the side of her eyes before gazing back towards those who were sparring. "I suppose it might be." He stated slowly. He wasn't exactly too sure what they could teach the younger Hunters. They seemed to be plenty fine at fighting, but simply they were just anxious.
Sage was unsure of how she meant her words and he was still viewing the sparring match when he heard Lilith shift from her position beside him. He watched as she used her dark wings to push herself upright and she moved past him onto the field. He watched her carefully and he raised an eyebrow as the boulder flew past her head. It was definitely a close call, close enough that even Sage would have at least attempted to dodge it. She had some guts at least, but Sage still wasn't entirely sure what she was up to.
The young Sergeant watched her throw one of the students through the air into a nearby snowbank and chuckled a little bit. He supposed that was one way to teach the kids how to fight. As she started talking Sage chuckled slightly. It seemed that his lowered voice hadn't helped him in staying under the radar with his thoughts on the sparring match. It also didn't help that Lilith was kind enough to point him out in front of everybody, just so that all eyes could turn to him.
The lieutenant continued talking and Sage could almost see where this was going, and it seemed like he was going to get to spar with somebody after all, or, rather, four somebodies. He inspected each of the students as he considered whether or not he could fight them without harming them too much. If he lost then he'd look weak, whereas he also didn't want to harm the students too much, as he assumed that they didn't have his healing ability.
Lilith was back over at the sidelines and in a softer voice than used before she as she seemingly taunted him. He looked back at the four on the field, who were all now looking at him, before smiling at Lilith. "As long as the students are willing, then I'd be happy to spar with them. I'm sure it would be quite a fun activity." He mentioned, this time making sure to project his voice more so than before. He kept eye contact with Lilith as he pulled his blanket off of his shoulders, revealing his TRS uniform and a sheathed sword at his hip.
He smiled as he stepped out onto the field, even despite himself Sage was always eager when it came to a fight. There were many things to take into account with this particular fight, but that wasn't going to stop him from enjoying himself. He looked at the four students before him, the one that Lilith had thrown finally having picked herself up out of the snowbank. They all looked at least a little skilled in what they did, but they also looked slightly more nervous now that the prospect of actually sparring with a higher up was brought before them. Either way Sage grinned at them, waiting to see whether they could accept the match or not.
Lilith matched his eye contact for a moment, although not for any complicated reason. Anyone who stared into her catlike eyes long enough could perceive a certain deadness there. It was troubling for most, and it always amused her–any glimmers in their cool depths were generally at someone else’s expense. No one suspected what activities she got into on some of her off days, and anyone would be shocked to see the healing scabs that presented in various places on her body. And yet, most people had an instinct for danger. An instinct that, in her case, was attributed to her high ranking as a Lieutenant and her peculiar ferociousness in battle. A good cover, indeed. Lilith then grinned, clasping her hands and turning with something akin to childish excitement. Her wings twitched in anticipation before opening completely in a bit of a stretch. It only made her look more formidable. ”Our students would be happy to oblige, won’t you?” The youngsters–Lilith called them kids, regardless of their age–looked at each other before nodding, knowing quite well that they hadn’t really a choice in the matter. Lilith did not come across as the type of person people told no, and they were not going to take the chance being the first to do so. It was wise. Although Lilith did not trouble herself with daily rewards and punishments of good and naughty students, she would no doubt feel compelled to do so had that been the case. And cleaning the toilets could be gross this time of year, what with all the viruses that plagued students in the dorms during the winter season.
[break][break] ”Don’t go easy on each other,” Lilith called as she sauntered back to her little watching post, ”Or else you’ll have to fight me.” she resumed the position of eager audience, resting her arms on the wooden fence and a boot on the lower post. Her waist-high wings were something like a cat tail, indicative of how she was feeling. She couldn’t stop them from fluttering even if she had tried to. A couple of the kids shifted their weight uneasily, looking at each other in an act of solidarity in their discomfort. A boy–what she presumed to be either a gifted human or earth nymph–began to speak to his teammates as though to discuss strategy, but was abruptly cut off by Lilith. ”In the heat of battle you haven’t time for such pleasantries. Go. Now.” Lilith shouted from the sidelines, the twinges of a laugh intermingled with impatience. Making plans and organizing themselves as a team was a luxury ill-afforded in reality. Lilith didn’t know these students, but the sooner they realized that they would almost always be at a disadvantage of some type, the sooner they could progress. Combat wasn’t fair. You came prepared, or you died. These were lessons better learned within the confines of the Terror Response Syndicate’s territory, even if it embarrassed them. While Lilith had very little empathy for others, she could still appreciate the need for her unit to have competent members. Honing the ability to think on their feet would serve them well.
[break][break] Lilith couldn’t ascertain whether the young girl she had thrown unceremoniously into the snow was a race with high strength levels, or if she was just a gifted. Either way, she was pissed, and her straightforward attack earlier in spite of her small size was obviously indicative of some type of bodily enhancement. Her face was red in anger, not cold, and when Lilith made eye contact with her she laughed–an uncharacteristically melodic sound that should have belonged to someone genuinely kind. ”Get used to it little fish. The world is much stronger than you.” One of the girl’s peers muttered to her, and Lilith watched her scoff before settling into impatient discontent. There was a moment of uncertain pause, but predictably the girl gathered herself together and charged at Sage. Lilith had not really figured out the other two’s abilities, although they would certainly show themselves in time. The Earth nymph steadied himself, raising a wall of rock at Sage’s posterior. It was an intelligent move, preventing escape from the head-on attack by his teammate. Lilith already knew the girl would need help. Impatience and anger always made for reckless decisions.
