Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Cicadas chirped in the midst of a summer morning. Although time ticked barely past the ninth hour, bright sunshine already baked over the wilderness with warmth in the fresh air. By the mere earliness of such heat, it was likely to be a hotter day than usual, which was precisely why the young Kitsune was entrusted with material gathering before noon. [break][break] A great meeting was intended to take place for Dawn of Shadowstride's authority figures at the end of the week. Thus, visiting Apothecaries from different defensive branches were arriving at the Sinclairé manor within days and preparations for ingredients to materialize and experiment with were in need. Alfonse had gone on material gathering hunts a couple times already since relocating to Lorsette and to him, this was among a variety of other errands and chores he was accustomed to in a normal day.[break][break] He brought with him a satchel, binoculars, and couple small bottles filled with potions to help him out in case of needing their aid. Underneath his cloak, of which fastened around his shoulders before cascading open around his waist, was a finely crafted Black Tourmaline brooch cemented onto a tie of his collar by a spell his mother placed before the boy was sent off. A mild shimmer cast across the brooch from the protective magic held within the genuine crystal, warding off any possible means of the boy's true Kitsune aura being detected by others. He looked and smelled like an ordinary human or at most suspiciously, a gifted. Although Alfonse wasn't venturing very far one could never be too careful... and, albeit secretly and unbeknownst to him, he wasn't truly alone in his venturing.[break][break] Boots lightly crunched along the fallen leaves beneath his feet as he made his way along a pleasantly green meadow. He hummed a soft song to himself as he strolled, stashing a handful of wild herbs he'd gathered into his satchel. Inside his satchel was not only the herbs he already gathered but also a fruit and roasted nut trail mix, freshly baked shortbread, and a flask filled with chilled peach tea. The boy took a short-cut, climbing over the branches of a tree to reach a ledge of the meadow and pull himself over, entering into a bushy region full of berries and flowers. This wasn't his first time coming here and he already memorized easier ways to get into certain places to gather ingredients. [break][break] Standing onto his feet, Alfonse begun humming once more as he went straight to a cluster of indigo flowers and knelt down in front of him. Carefully he started harvesting them into his hands, one by one, the melody of his hummed tune being the only other sound among the distant cicadas.
Bosco laid in bed, breathing in and out slowly as he slept. Within a few minutes he would slowly wake up, looking around the room as he took in the different scents in the house. He could hear Orion's aunt from down the hall as well as Orion's mother. Slowly he would rise from his bed before stretching, slowly making his way out of the room and down the hall. First he would go to search for his food, upon finding it he would slowly eat some before drinking some water. Then he would wait for Orion's aunt to walk towards the front door to allow him to go outside. It wasn't everyday that he was allowed outside, in fact, he rarely got to be outside because he was shy when it came to strangers. Once he finished with his business, he would head back towards the door to go back inside. Orion's scent had been faint, when he had woken this morning, he wasn't there to greet him, meaning he must be else where. Oh how he wished that he would return so that they could spend time together. He was able to catch a faint scent, most likely fresh from when Orion had first left.
With a small sigh he would continue towards the house before heading inside, pausing when he heard a loud noise as the vehicle drove down the street. The noise had spooked him and instead of running towards the front door like a good little boy, he started down the street instead. Once more, earning yelling from Orion's aunt who attempted to encourage him back inside the house. As the noise dimmed down, he had slowly come to a stop to catch his breath. Perhaps he hadn't needed to run this far just to get away from it, but he hated loud noises and going inside the house never brought silence. He looked around himself, unsure of where he was at, he didn't even have Orion's scent anymore. Where am I? He thought to himself, believing this might be the day that he'd never get to return home. I want to go home. He thought to himself, whining as he adjusted to sit on the ground. People crept around the corner, heading towards him and he bolted in the opposite direction, unwilling to believe their words to sooth him. I don't trust them, none of them. All of them will hurt me, I just know it. He thought to himself, vague memories of his past crossed into his mind, having been reminded that for some reason his parents had been on the run, though he hadn't seen them in years, he believed them to still be alive.
The city seemed to come to an end as he headed towards the outskirts, running forward instead of looking behind himself to see that he wasn't being followed by those people he had seen only a few minutes ago. He climbed over logs as he continued forward, catching a scent of something that smelled good. As he neared the meadow, he noticed Alfonse. A boy who appeared around his age, gathering the flowers. He lowered, hoping he hadn't made too much noise as he watched from a distance, fear of the boy spotting him. As an attempt to flee, he slowly backed away, stepping on a branch in the process. A loud crunch could be heard as the branch broke.
Deep indigo petals touched the boy's fingertips as he peacefully gathered them, careful in pulling them away from their thin delicate stems that were short and close among the meadow's grass. Alfonse's knees knelt along the soft greenery after a few moments, sitting down a moment after with his legs kept folded underneath him. An illuminating shimmer shown from the inside fabric of his cloak during his shuffling, soon disappearing as the front of his cloak once more fell over his shoulders. [break][break] A soft smile touched his face upon opening a palm in front of him and silently appreciating the rich hue of the flowers within its grasp. Small lines of dark blue highlighted the mid-region of the petals, gradually darkening before almost turning black towards the middle of the flower. The midnight-blue depths made the flower an essential asset to potions enhancing intellectual sharpness and wisdom... but Alfonse, personally, found them to be calming to look at and pleasant to smell. His nose caught scent of the wild berries, grass, indigo flowers, trees.... a medley of nature's gifts with none being too potent but just the right amount of sweet aroma to lull the boy into contentment.[break][break]
He closed his eyes, bringing his cupped palms higher up towards his face to get a better smell of the delicate floral scent before reopening his Aquamarine hues, lowering his palms to bundle them with the other Indigo flowers he collected. A subtle shimmering whirl of blueish-white aura spun from his fingertips, wrapping around the flower stems gradually and neatly bringing them together in an organized bunch. Much like a magical thread, it bound the flowers together evenly and danced through and around the stems while doing so. An unfamiliar scent that didn't mix with the meadow's scenery reached Alfnonse's nose... he paused, though it was a snapping sound that followed and completely caught his attention.[break][break]
He quickly turned his head to look in the direction he heard the snapping noise come from, as though someone or something had accidentally stepped upon a branch. Alfonse's previous peaceful demeanor was caught off guard in hesitancy that grew by the second. The new smell that entered the area intensified and startled him... s-something else was definitely really close... i-it smelled like a human... and animal? M-maybe someone was walking their dog? The thought didn't ease him at all and the boy worriedly glanced about the bushes and trees from where he sat, trying to hold still and not making any noise of his own... and h-he could have swore he actually saw the figure of a dog by itself.... through the bushes in front of him.[break][break]
".... H-hi puppy...?" Alfonse's voice softly called out, uncertainty and surprise in his tone. Through the wild berry branches he didn't see a human, but.... it really smelled like one was there somewhere...
Bosco found himself watching Alfonse, debating on staying in his spot or backing away slowly. Alfonse had looked around, most likely to try and figure out where that noise had come from and he found himself terrified that he chose to stay still and attempt to hide. His breathing increased as he became much more nervous, finding it stopping slightly as Alfonse called out a puppy. Yes I am a puppy.... Now... Now stay over there. He thought to himself, deciding to back away after all. He knew it was a long shot but he was pretty sure that he'd be able to out run Alfonse and there wasn't anything stopping him from trying. The strong scent came into his nose, as if begging for him to stay longer. It was the only reason he hesitated in backing up some more. Clearly debating on wanting the food or keeping his distance for his own safety.
I really shouldn't, but I want it.... This is a bad idea, but I still want it badly. The only thing I get at home is dog food and this smells nicer than that. Of course the dog food is my own fault.... I mean I should eat dog food since it wouldn't be right to join my master in eating other foods. He thought to himself viewing the non dog food reserved for people such as his master and others that ate that type of food too. The wind blew, the flowers slightly moving from the breeze. The pollen flew into the air, making its way straight for his nose. He hadn't moved from his spot, still debating on his life choices and the pollen flew into his nose. It was itchy, before feeling somewhat stuffy before he found himself breathing in and out as to deal with his nose.
A second later, he let out a sneeze, feeling somewhat relieved that it was over before realizing if Alfonse hadn't figured out he was here before, surely he would know by now. Once more, he backed away, knowing that this would be his only chance to escape.
Silence arose after he'd called out, and Alfonse's hand nervously reached to grasp his satchel.... wondering wh-what or who was on the other side of the berry branches and shrubbery that was facing before where he knelt in the meadow-y soft earth. Maybe he should just.... stand up and carry on with the last of ingredients he needed to gather... b-before someone else showed up... [break][break]
After all, if it were someone's canine in the shrubbery, it was possible that their owner wasn't far away. And, really, the young Kitsune had no intentions of being caught in the middle of his task by a complete stranger when he was out in the vacant wilds.[break][break]
It was then that a breeze blew a wafting aroma of flowers and pollen that Alfonse felt a tickle come to his nose... and such a tickle had seemingly touched the creature that he warily watched. A sneeze rattled through the berry branches and made Alfonse's shoulders jump in surprise. The bodily movement that followed the sneeze gave the boy a better view of fur and the silhouette of what looked like... a Saint Bernard dog? [break][break]
"A-are you lost, puppy?" The boy's gentle voice once more called out, confusion dwelling within his gaze as he still internally combated the conflicting scents of human and dog. There were plenty of species that existed in the world, however-- maybe this was one he had yet to meet in person! O-oh, he wasn't quite sure if that comforted him or made him feel all the more apprehensive, though... and what species could possibly look like a Saint Bernard?[break][break]
With his hand still on the satchel, Alfonse put on a brave face and sat up on his knees. "U-Um, well, if you're a puppy... maybe you'd like a snack?" He offered carefully, grabbing one of the fresh-baked shortbreads from his satchel. He held his hand out with the shortbread offered outward, "I don't mind sharing,"
Bosco had been too busy worrying over the fact Alfonse had heard him sneeze that he hadn't noticed him jump in surprise. Alfonse asked him a question and he noticed late that he was no longer hidden after he had slowly backed away because he had planned on escaping. Alfonse asked his question and he paused in moment to look back towards him. Yes... no... maybe... a little bit. He thought to himself, feeling somewhat calmer when Alfonse spoke calmly to him. The desire to escape ceased the moment Alfonse asked if he would like a snack. He went from standing, to sitting in his spot, wary of moving closer to Alfonse but also because it seemed Alfonse wasn't completely comfortable around him either. The fresh-baked short bread was pulled out from his satchel and he reached his hand out towards him. Slowly he stood and inched forward, pausing, before inching forward again slowly. Once the short bread was in reach, he'd slowly reach out his paw in attempt to touch it.
One reason, to keep Alfonse from fearing he might lose a hand and two, he didn't want to risk being grabbed. He is being so kind to me. He thought to himself before another breeze encouraged his nose to tickle. He'd turn his head away from Alfonse before sneezing a few more times. I want to stop sneezing! He thought to himself before looking back towards Alfonse, curious on what he was doing out here in the first place.
The Saint Bernard went from standing in a guarded disposition to sitting in place, something Alfonse was able to make sense from between the wild berry branches that veiled between them. Within seconds, however, the canine stood up on all four paws and cautiously inched towards him. This brought a broader smile to Alfonse's face, of which case shown a friendly aura around him. Maybe it really was simply a dog... with the scent of the owner still on him. [break][break]
He patiently waited with the shortbread still in hand and upon the canine nearing him, the creature reached a paw out towards the treat... which both dawned upon Alfonse a moment of finding the Saint Bernard adorable for such a cautious and sweet little gesture and both pondering yet again whether if it were an ordinary dog or something much different. It was so hard to tell...! He couldn't imagine a normal dog doing what this one just did, wouldn't they normally just go in for a bite? B-but then again, he wasn't exactly the most familiarized with dogs...[break][break]
Decidedly, the boy set the short bread down before the dog and sat straight back up with both hands placing themselves upon his bare knees. "Here you go, little fellow," He softly spoke again with the same friendly smile, "My mother baked them this morning. They're really good!" The canine sneezed once more, then again, and again.... and the boy couldn't help but to gently laugh a little before he, himself, sneezed from the pollen tickling his nose.
Bosco watched as Alfonse had reached out the short bread to him. He reached out his paw, wanting but not willing to move his muzzle to eat from his hand. He couldn't help but feel pleased when Alfonse had set the bread down in front of him before moving to sit straight with his hands being placed on his knees. He listened, slowly inching his muzzle forward before biting into the short bread, finding it yummy. That is what he had smelled when he had made his way over here. He listened as Alfonse mentioned how his mother had backed them this morning. It was around this time a sudden breeze had come and he had sneezed a few rounds. Alfonse laughed but soon he sneezed from the pollen tickling his nose as well. Bitter sweat revenge filled his mind as he was quite pleased that Alfonse had to endure with sneezing too. He wasn't sure of the reason behind it however. Soon he returned his muzzle to slowly eat the remaining short bread, once it was finished his looked back towards Alfonse as if hinting for wanting more, even though it frankly wasn't his right in asking.
The canine seemed to enjoy the snack and Alfonse's face brightened with a more so comfortable, and less apprehensive smile. The treat was quickly eaten up and it wasn't but a few moments before the dog looked up at him as though asking for more. The boy's smile grew and he gently laughed. "I'm sorry, but I only have one more piece left," He admitted and hummed to himself, "But, I could split it..."[break][break]
Reaching into his satchel once more, he retrieved the last slice of fresh baked short bread and broke it in half. His mother was unlikely to be pleased with him for sharing with an animal, but he knew there was still plenty back at home among other snacks his mother was happily baking for their many guests. "Okay, here, have this," The Kitsune decided as he set the split-halved short bread before the canine again, "Hm...." Curiously he lowered his head, looking about the dog's neck to see if it had a collar. "Are you all alone?" He murmured thoughtfully, though of course he expected no verbal response. He was talking to what was increasingly seeming to be a normal dog.
Bosco would be pouting had he not been in canine form over the fact Alfonse was laughing. It may have been a gentle laugh but he really badly wanted more, it tasted better than it smelled. He listened as Alfonse apologized, meanwhile he glanced towards the ground, only looking up when Alfonse mentioned splitting the last one in half. It wasn't a whole piece but having more would do, yes indeed. He felt rather selfish at the idea of being able to have more just because he was hungry and Alfonse is whom he had found out here. He watched as Alfonse had opened the satchel before breaking the short bread in half before setting it in front of him. Feeling pleased, he inched closer and started eating it, unaware that Alfonse was looking at his neck, he'd notice a collar with his name on one side and Orion's on it as well, proving there was in fact an owner for him. He finished eating, licking his lips when he heard Alfonse's question, he nodded his head up and down as if implying yes before whining. I'm lost...
When glancing around the Saint Bernard's neck, Alfonse managed to catch sight of a collar in the midst of his furry mane. Ah-hah! So, this really was someone's pet! This brought even more confirmation to the boy that there really wasn't much to worry about in terms of this creature being a shape-shifted species. The human scent was clearly rubbed off on this little guy from his owner. Speaking of his owner... where were they?[break][break]
Alfonse bit his lip with a slight sense of nervousness as he carefully reached forward while the canine nodded, which was... kind of odd, as though he actually understood him. "It's okay, little guy..." He murmured soothingly with the attempts of comforting him, just in case if he were hesitant about a stranger leaning forward towards him. He had enough time to grasp the collar and turn it to find the name "Bosco" on it. "Ah, so your name is Bosco," He smiled brightly at the dog, "Hello, Bosco. You're a good boy. Now, if only I knew where you came from,"
Bosco had nodded to answer Alfonse's question about being lost. Alfonse had reached out and he found himself becoming nervous until he heard the comforting words about it being okay. It took a lot of effort to hold still while his collar was being touched, unaware of what Alfonse was planning. Upon finding out his name, he barked, uncomfortable of being this close to Alfonse this long, but he hoped with patience, Alfonse would notice the name of his owner, Orion with a phone number and address on it. More whining when it seemed they wouldn't be able to figure out where he came from unless he were to head back into the city.
Luckily, the canine was still enough for Alfonse to get a better look at the collar, using his hand to gently turn it side-ways to find a name tag that had the name "Orion Hollins" on it and an address along with a phone number. This was certainly someone's pet and either they lost him while on a walk, or the canine had wandered far. Alfonse had never owned any pets before, thus he wasn't quite familiarized with the nature of dogs beyond knowing that they loved food and barked. Thus, it was difficult... and a little uncomfortable for him to pin-point what exactly to do next.[break][break]
"I see... so his owner's name is Orion Hollins..." Alfonse spoke quietly to himself in thought, thoughtfulness and uncertainty beginning to show within his Aquamarine gaze. He couldn't just leave this creature all alone by himself... with a soft sigh, he looked up and scanned the area to see if he could detect the owner or at least their scent anywhere nearby. No such luck was found.[break][break]
"W-well, little guy, let's find your owner," He decidedly stood onto his feet with his satchel over his shoulder, giving the dog a hesitant and careful pat on the head. It was then an idea came to mind, and he lightly smiled. "Hm... which may be easier than it seems..." Fishing through his satchel, he took out a piece of chalk and looked off towards a smooth boulder nearby. Perfect! "Come on Bosco!" He called as he begun heading over towards the boulder, patting his leg to try and beckon the dog onward. [break][break]
He intended on drawing up a hexing symbol to teleport himself and the canine to the police station, where hopefully the owner would be notified of a missing dog. He, himself, didn't know of the neighborhood thus he couldn't accurately teleport the dog right home... b-but this was a decent enough of an alternative. Busily he went at work, using the chalk to draw defined lines and symbols and gradually forming a large enough circle for the both of them. He corrected a few smudges before stepping back and smiling confidently at his work. "All right..." He breathed in for preparation, the portal he drew up beginning to spark in purple magic through the drawn symbols. The magic begun to whirl brightly as a black shadowy wisp wove throughout the chalk, initiating a portal gateway. "You ready, little fellow?" Alfonse asked, looking to the dog and extended his hand out towards him, once more beckoning him to come close.
Bosco listened as Alfonse spoke, remaining silent even though he wanted nothing more than to go home. He felt horrible for leaving home, all because he wanted to explore and managed to get distracted on his way over here. Alfonse had stood up, mentioning his comment about finding Orion. Does he know where he is at? Will I be able to see him now? He couldn't help but look around even though he couldn't smell Orion anywhere, implying he wasn't nearby. Alfonse pat his head before smiling at him, he then proceeded to pull chalk out of his satchel before heading towards a boulder, calling him to follow. He followed but slowly, unsure on how he'd see Orion this way. Alfonse created the hex circle and once more was encouraged to come closer to the boulder. He sighed, not understanding how this would help before suddenly they'd teleport to the police station. The doors would open as a few people would come and go. Somebody who knew Orion and him, came rushing over. "Bosco..." He answered before looking over at Alfonse.
"Thank you for bringing him back here. I'll contact Orion and let him know that Bosco is at the police station now." The police officer explained, planning on lifting his radio to inform Orion his dog was found. Bosco was somewhat bothered to hear Orion wasn't here but at the same time at least he wasn't lost anymore. He'd glance back towards Alfonse, curious on what would happen now. I wonder if I'll ever get to see him again. He inched close to Alfonse, attempting to nudge his head with against his hand. Thank you for taking me here.
In a blazing whirl of glowing purple and black magic, they were teleported right to the very doors of the police station. A blink of magic appeared in place of them before the two appeared, drawing attention from a few people inside of the station as the doors slid open to enter. Alfonse's stomach felt uneasy, being further away from where he knew he was supposed to be... b-but he couldn't have just left someone's pet all by itself in the middle of a forest! A-and, he was going to teleport back home! Such thoughts raced through his head along with his typical sheepishness around strangers as he ensured that the dog followed him inside.[break][break]
An officer seemed to have instantly recognized the dog and spoke aloud their name, indicating that either this canine got out often or had some form of relationship with the owner. "Thank you for bringing him back here. I'll contact Orion and let him know that Bosco is at the police station now." The officer proceeded to say and Alfonse nervously smiled. "O-of course, I-I'm happy to help..." He stammered out shyly. It looked like that... w-was actually a lot easier than he thought it would be.[break][break]
Feeling soft fur against his hand, Alfonse looked down and saw that Bosco had brushed his head up against him. The gesture softened the boy's features and he turned to crouch down to his level. With the same hand he nudged, he gave the canine a gentle scratch on the shoulder. "I'm glad you're safe now. Make sure to stay real close with your owner, okay?" His voice, soft and caring, was quiet enough so that only the dog could hear. With that, he stood straight up again and begun heading out towards the doors. He was going to draw up another hexing circle to transport himself back near home. Hopefully he'd gathered enough to make the Apothecaries of his family's clan happy... and hopefully, the dog would soon be reunited with his owner.
