Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Scales of grey, the dull shades coated the realm of the dead. There was never true colour in Purgatory, which ultimately provided the realm with a melancholic atmosphere. People claimed the entire realm suffocated them with gloom, however, the god of Purgatory was delighted by the notion. The “bland” pallet of shades provided a certain uniqueness of his surroundings, thus Thanatos was quite pleased with his dimension. Quietly, the god watched from his throne inside his castle, face obscured by shadows as hands grasped a scythe made of bones. Before he was a splotch of darkness displaying the occurrences of the human world. The drama was a delightful action, Thanatos watching a particular case involving a female soldier handling the kidnapper. The criminal in the situation flaunted the circumstances in the god’s opinion. This cruel man seemingly mocked the woman, believing he would be the winner in this situation. A chuckle rumbled from the depths of the god’s throat, certain ideas thoroughly humouring him. How would this arrogant man react should he put a kink in his plans? Suddenly, the god of death rose from the chair, scythe in hand and black cloak flowing out from behind him. Briefly, his associates glanced towards him but remained silent. The scythe was raised and swiped through the air in a vertical motion.
A black crack opened in front of Thanatos, revealing another section of Purgatory; teleportation remained limited to his realm. Calmly, the god of death stepped through the portal and into a field filled with light grey grass. Trees stretched across the horizon, Thanatos’ eyes glancing around the area in a curious manner. Behind him, the portal disappeared, shutting and dissipating as though it never existed. Quietly, the god stood, wandering through the grass and to the destination where Purgatory’s newest arrival would spawn. A lip-tight grin stretched across his face as he closed the gap between where the newest arrival, Evangeline Tembo would spawn. There was excitement lingering in the god’s mind at the notion ruining the ignorant’s man plans. Few people spared thoughts in regards to undead creatures, thus, Thanatos was becoming amused at the upcoming events. Furthermore, according to this potential undead’s records, she has involvement in the military, suggesting she could make an excellent seeker of justice; she was a fighter, which he frequently sought in wraiths.
[ I hope you don’t mind that I kept this short. I just figured this was plot-crucial and would be a good one to get done quickly. @bangalore ]
“- you son of a bitch ,even if I have to claw my way out of hell!!!”
Evangeline growled, then she noticed the changes to where she was. She wasn’t in the Kuwaiti desert anymore, and frankly the distant pearls of gunfire and artillary that she had leaned to live with over the past few months just wasn’t there.
“Was that a dream?” She asked herself as she looked at her hands she wasn’t wearing her fatigues anymore, she turned her hand and looked at the simple white sleeve that covered her arms and flavored at the end she hadn’t seen this dress in ages...and frankly it surely wouldn’t have fit her now. She pushed herself up to a sitting position and looked down at her favorite childhood dress and smiled a little bit
There was a flash in her head and her mind was playing back bits and peices of her mistakes as a leader. Fraiser choking to death in her hands, Miles running into enemy fire , Jackson’s grizzly end. She clenched her eyes shut and ground her teeth. “That wasn’t a dream....they all died becuase of me....” she clenched her hands across her temples before looking up”Wait....Wait a minute did I survive.....all that talk for him to miss point fucking blank!” She scrambled to a standing position and looked around. She stopped when she saw the figure with the scythe
“And here I thought Baron Samdi came for the dead with a top hat and a cigar...” she clenched her fists glaring at the figure
The intensity of the situation involving this particular soul's death was definitely an interesting scenario, thus Thanatos proceeded to wear his amused expression. The dimension devoid of any colour rarely manifested events of particular amusement for the god of Death. Furthermore, his damaged power managed to keep him confined to the depths of his realm. Patiently, Thanatos waited, black cloak obscuring his features and a tight grip on his scythe. There was a minimal distance between himself and where the newest arrival would inevitably appear. Thoughts swirled through his mind, the god wondering if perhaps he could receive someone to deliver justice upon those with darker intents. Orbs a light suddenly gathered in front of him, forming a human shape in a sitting position. A dress covered her body, colours disappearing and fading to the bland monotone of Purgatory. An amused grin touched Thanatos' face when the woman claimed the entire occurrence could potentially be a dream; these were definitely the more interesting sorts.
The god of death remained stationary, resisting the urge to release an entertained chuckle, which he succeeded until Evangeline stated a different name. A soft chuckle escaped his mouth, Thanatos smirking from the amusing situation.
"Would that have been your preference?" He inquired, amusement evident in his tone. "You should be grateful, Miss Tempo, since I'm going to offer you the chance of a lifetime. The realm of Purgatory is not a very interesting location for the dead and I assure you, I have been watching you very closely. It's a real shame that traitor decided to kill you, isn't it?"
Fuelling the fires of anger and feeding the lust for revenge was an excellent method to assure agreement in Thanatos' belief. A majority of people made reckless decisions under the influence of anger. The god of death merely used the emotional states of people to his advantage. While he talked, he unconsciously walked around the former sergeant, observing her reactions keenly and analyzing her soldier's frame. Would she make an excellent wraith as he was anticipating? There were some who slipped through the cracks who were mediocre examples of what his wraiths should represent, however, the god would occasionally verify it himself for the sake of his own amusement.
As the robed mans spoke Evangeline tried to keep herself aloof, yet the fact that the man laughed at her chosen name for him just seemed to irritate her further than she already was. She kept her stance wide, not really trusting the predatory way that the man looped around her.she didn’t know what she was gonna do about the large scythe in his hands but she wasn’t going to go down without a fight if it came to that.
“- it’s a real shame the traitor decided to kill you, isn’t it?”
Her mind flashed back to the moment right before she woke up here.the tick of the hammer falling and the bang that was still ringing in her ears. He hadn’t missed,he couldn’t have, the gun was practically pushed against her forehead! She tried to keep the emotions from playing on her face but anyone knowledgeable enough would be able to read her like an open book. Her eyes had narrowed and her jaw and hands had clenched hard enough she’d probably draw blood soon. She locked her ocean blue eyes on his face and track his movement trying to see if there was anything other than plain amusement on his face
“ You want something from me or do you plan on just gawking at me like I’m a five dollar whore.” She spat through her clenched teeth. She just wanted this to be over, she felt tired like there wasn’t a reason to fight anymore, that bastard had won and there wasn’t a gods damn thing she could do about no mater how much she wanted to. She hadn’t felt a sense of helplessness like this since she was a little girl and for the first time in a long time she wanted to break down and cry by she just couldn’t bring herself to do it .she couldn’t just give in to what Van Owens had done to her no matter if he would never know that she was wanting to cry about it.
“GO ON SPIT IT OUT!!”she barked at the robed man her nails biting deep into her palms as her anger and her wrath flew to the forefront of her emotions, van owens words about meeting with her mother burning in her ears as she glared down the robed figure half expecting it to be the mercenary just screwing with her. “WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT FROM ME!!”
Amusement became more evident when Thanatos’ attempts to infuriate the woman appeared successful. Manipulation was easier when the initial interactions worked to his desire. The anger which evidently flowed through the woman’s veins was strong. It became probable her blood was boiling because of the nasty circumstances surrounding her demise. Alas, the god of death was not surprised by her intense anger. Years of accomplishing the task of gathering souls allowed him to be thoroughly prepared for these reactions. While some reacted with overwhelming sorrow, there was also a large portion who displayed immense anger; some foolishly attempted to hit him. Suddenly, the yelling began, Thanatos keeping an amused expression as Evangeline immediately screamed, desiring to reach the point quickly rather than a smooth transition. A faint chuckle escaped his lips, Purgatory's God evidently enjoying the interaction between himself and this woman; the anger was an interesting emotion as usual.
"Oh, this is not about me, Miss Tempo," he began, amusement gracing his tone. "But rather... an offer you won't want to refuse. Well, you are correct about me wanting something, consider it... more of a side job."
A mischievous grin stretched across Thanatos' face as he casually walked around Evangeline. Naturally, she probably desired the information about this particular offer. Revenge was a powerful tool to manifest an interesting story filled with anger where only one person would survive.
"What if I told you, you could have revenge on the man who killed you? The coward who hid behind a gun and pulled the trigger at point blank range?" The God of Death inquired, a smirk stretched across his face.
Quietly, Thanatos waited for the woman's response, eyes narrowed and hidden beneath the cloak's hood. Today would definitely be full of amusement because of how Evangeline was reacting currently. There was nothing better than those who provided delightful reactions.
Evangeline narrowed her eyes at the man fury still pouring from the crystal blue orbs the colour still visible even in this muted Greyscale world. She crossed her arms taking a step forward." good, give me the old mafia boss cliche , come on Mandat d'ombre tell me what you want me to do." she tapped her finger on her elbow she was being curt and standoffish and frankly she just wanted to deal with whatever eternal punishment she was due to receive for being a god forsaken sinner of an airborne trooper.
" What the hell kind of side job do you want me to do and how does that get me anywhere near Van Owens, because oh....the last time I checked her turned the inside of my helmet into a goddamn soup can with that hand cannon of his." she spat that out with a bit of venom behind it. She took a step forward shaking her finger at the man in robes "and how the hell am I supposed to trust someone who dressed like they're ready to hit the french quarter for the fucking Halloween parade. WHO THE HELL EVEN ARE YOU?" she growled out stepping closer and closer to him. Evangeline was just done. she had gotten the shit end of a stick and was sick and tired of being dogged around like some sort of plaything by this robed man and his shit eating grin.
her mind started to shift slightly as thoughts about her mother and worry began to piece itself into the emotions on her face. She had been devastated after her fathers death a few years after she enlisted but she really thought her mother was the one who took it worse. she reached her hand to her mouth and bit the tip of her thumb. 'oh god she's going to have to bury me too....'
Amusement remained evident in Thanatos' expression, the god genuinely believing he witnessed every reaction the living world could provide once they entered his realm, yet, word choice always appeared to differ slightly. The step forward was anything but menacing, the god not remotely concerned about what the woman may attempt, especially considering this was his realm. The insistence for information only resulted in a mischievous chuckle escaping the god's throat. People could truly be impatient, but he supposed it arrived with an ever-ticking expiration date hanging in their thoughts; they never received the gift of true immortality. A smirk remained on his face as she spoke, the god of death allowing the woman to vent her thoughts while he prepared the next specifically chosen words. The condemnatory method of intimidation was entirely amusing, the woman shaking her finger while she stepped closer, but Thanatos refused to bend or step back. A large cackle escaped his mouth when Evangeline inquired about his identity.
"Who do you think I am, child?!"" He stated in an amused and booming voice. "You've entered the realm of the dead, and I'm Thanatos, the God of Death, in the flesh and bone."
There was a pause as Thanatos remained unmoving, obvious amusement capturing his expression as he allowed those words to sink in. After a few moments, a deep breath was taken, Purgatory's god straightening his back, eyes remaining locked on the young woman.
"As for your chance for vengeance, that is in your hands," he stated, voice surprisingly neutral. "I don't control Fate's strings, I merely claim souls when they meet their demise, however, I'm also able to bring souls back into the world of the living. Sometimes for a price."
The smile remained as his hidden eyes locked onto the young soldier, Thanatos knowing her capabilities as a fighter would potentially make for a valuable wraith. Upholders of justice were beyond crucial in the god's vision, furthermore, getting everything into place for a certain somebody would eventually need to begin. Unfortunately, the timing was crucial and Purgatory's god knew he needed to bide it longer yet.
“What would that cost be Sir.” Evangeline’s demeanor change after the last speech from the cloaked man in front of her. Her years as a soldier, especially a female soldier, in the army had taught her how to play the part of a “good little soldier girl.” Especially if doing so pushed her career further. There was a soft scraping noise as her bare heels clicked together and she assumed the position of attention. As her voice echoed out. More a statement than a question her eyes looked directly at where she perceived thanatos’ eyes to be but proceeded to stare through him as if he wasn’t even there.
“I’m going to presume that not everyone gets the special treatment of the lord of the dead and this isn’t just some special tea party you’ve brought me too. I’m no FNG....” her lips curved in a manner that seemed like a soft smirk. “ I’m one of America’s finest and it’s my job to kick ass and chew bubble gum, frankly sir this doesn’t at all look like a candy factory. If you need someone dead then paint the target and I’ll be Oscar mike.” She smiled wide like the war dog she knew she was capable of being but it didn’t reach her eyes. The blue orbs kept their thousand yard stare as she looked through the god before her, thinking only of what her mother was going through.... Evangeline always knew there was a chance but she never expected to come home a flag.
This soldier girl was quite amusing in Thanatos' opinion, especially with how she intelligently changed her tune after learning his identity. Clearly, Evangeline Tembo knew when to respect the authority of others, furthermore, she would obviously possess the skills to carry out his request. When the time arrived and he dispatched her to Earth, the woman could be a useful asset for disposing of those abhorrent people. Some individuals deserved their final judgement to arrive early before they could cause any more mayhem. Alas, Thanatos required the proper time to release his soldier into the world, that was if she agreed. Currently, the people he sent out for his missions to remove those were darker souls were rathered skilled, but having a reserve of willing individuals would allow him to properly continue his meddlings with Earth. A smile appeared on the god's lips when Evangeline mentioned what he desired, albeit, with some incorrect conclusions.
"Ah, not just one my dear. While I will warrant you the opportunity for revenge, I would like to see my missions carried out. Now tell me, how much do you know about me?" He inquired.
A worthy soldier and all she required for motivation were mentions of revenge, however, that would come when the man who murdered her settled somewhere favourable. Those working in the military were difficult to track with their perpetual movement, thus waiting some time to observe patterns would be useful for feeding the vindictive soldier.
" Nothing More than the Standard sir. basic historical knowledge about the war of traitors" she stood their softly watching the skeletal man as she spoke" history wasn't exactly my forte in life. If I studied the war of traitors , i studied what little information there was about tactical maneuvers and the like." she kept herself at the position of attention. The young sergeant found herself growing impatient, feeling like a buck private about to receive her first ever combat patrol. she wanted out of the greyscape and wanted away from it all, her throat burned with all the words she wished she had spoken to her men and it was all she could do to hold herself with military bearing to keep from breaking down entirely.
" is there a mission that you want me to carry out Sir" she said curtly again, keeping herself respectful but it was also evident that this was a conversation she did not enjoy nor wanted to have at all. the skeletal man didn't exactly spark fear in her, in fact he kind of reminded her of a Halloween decoration. it was how he carried himself that truly unsettled her. this air around him that signaled that he played by a different set of rules that would change upon a whim. She wanted to do what he asked of her as soon as she could, and then wash her hands of him.
Fueled by the mortal lusting for vengeance, a perfect tool primed for his inevitable shoveling of missions. As the God of Death, Thanatos adored balance, however, he enjoyed watching the blackened husks of wayward souls receive their comeuppance more. The vexation they displayed upon their defeat always amused him without a falter, especially when it happened to the arrogant ones. A smile twisted onto the god's human face; a brunette (a colour turned dark grey from the greyscale nature of Purgatory) with a soft stubble to his chin. The remainder of his body consisted of a skeleton obscured by soft fringes of shadows.
Only visible signs of bone consisted of his ivory-coloured phalanges curled around the wooden handle of his scythe. The smile dancing on Thanatos’ lips suggested amusement as his awareness of the circumstance grew. Successfully, he was trapping the young girl in a situation seemingly favourable to her desires. If anything, she was the perfect subject for his plans, at least, the type to assure his desires for balance would carry out. There were maniacal people out there and a revenge-hungry former sergeant sounded beyond magnificent.
He listened to the knowledge she provided in regards to history and warranted a tight-lipped smile. She was so fixated on combat...
"I see," the words slithered through his lips.
Thanatos stood tall as he proceeded to regard her. The dark robe around his boney structure tugging slightly in the faintest breeze. As she inquired to her mission, contentment mingled into amusement.
"When you transform into the species of my choosing, you will inherit a special gift, Miss Tembo," he began. "Your eyes will be capable of witnessing other souls. Should you activate it, you can see their purity... or their villainry."
The god walked passed, the other hand joining the current on the handle of the scythe. There were remnants of a smirk across his lips as he gazed out over the fields of light grey grass.
"You're mission is to kill some of those heathens. The dark souls, the villainous ones," he explained in brief words.
Soon, the time would arrive for his chessboard of plans to proceed. He would not make the game easy for Miss Tembo... that would be no fun... Alas, he needed her to agree to his "game"...
Evangeline sighed softly, closing her eyes for a half second just to keep them from burning with her feelings. holding a deep breathe for a moment, she looked up at the skeletal man in front of her."I'll do your job." she said quietly.what better choice did she have, she was dead, She had no other options especially if she want to make good on her promise to Van Owens. Her mind flitted to the tall pale man in sunglasses the way he had ordered the deaths of her and her men, and it was just BUSINESS to him. as her mind went over his last little speech her blood just boiled, a grimace of fury teetered at the edges of her expressions yet her face still flipped between military stoicism and feigned apathy.
" Well whats the op that you want me to do, just give me the details and ill be on the move." she muttered impatiently. the longer she stayed here the more upset she seemed to be getting. she wanted to blow up, to beat a brick wall till her fingers bled and then drink herself into a stupor but here she was toying the line between damnation as she spoke with spare ribs over there who was obviously toying with her. yet most of all, there was a tiny part of her that was just unerringly sad.... she wanted to go home but couldn't, and to be honest Evangeline was surprised how much exactly that thought made her heart hurt.
Content with his little game, the God of Death smirked, listening to Miss Tembo's words. The soldier of a woman was impressive he would admit, alas, he enjoyed warranting himself some entertainment. The greyscale realm of Purgatory was never a particularly interesting place after all. Colours were a nonexistent reality, although, there was marvellous drama between the souls who drifted through his reality. Volatile fighting minus the possibility of injury decimation, confrontations and even heart-wrenching reunions.
When the young woman agreed, a triumphant smirk crossed the God of Death's lips. As expected, the freshly deceased soul wished for the opportunity to get revenge. The equation was perfect and with Thanatos acting upon it, he believed he would receive more interesting circumstances. The woman appeared to despise his antics, but naturally, the skeletal man could hardly care about her opinion. There were more crucial matters related to his delightful little game of messing with the soldier. The woman proved prepared to go as she requested further details.
"That, is all I ask. Death is a balancing game, my dear and with the bad ones are the most ruthless, I got to send someone, don't I?" A charmer's smile graced his human face. "Now if you're ready, we can begin."
Those were the few cracks of the god behind the teasing antics and obnoxious words. There were duties laid upon his shoulders, something placed there by his own force, and he upheld them.
The was a change to the words of the ghoulish man in front of her. cracks in the joking facade that was tearing into the very fabric of her mentality and that is what truly chilled Evangeline's blood. She shifted softly before stepping forward her hands twitched like they wanted to be clutching a rifle that wasn't there anymore. That singular flash of the man pulling the strings, placing her like some pawn or night on a chessboard, and here she was the good little soldier that was going to shut the hell up and do her damn job.
She walked up to the Ethereal god and clenched her teeth, being so close to him did little to sway the fact that she hated having to be put in this situation in the first place. This greyscape field was cold, it chilled her to the bone in fact. The dark skinned soldier chewed softly on the inside of her lips and silently mouthed the regrets that she had come to have in her short life. a prayer of sorts in its own right and probably something the God of Purgatory had seen millions of times over, The forefront of which was the fact that she couldn't bring her men home safely. the fact that she couldn't make it home safely herself was a soft patch compared to the guilt of not being able to bring anyone home. She stared up at Thanatos and narrowed her eyes. " I'm ready, whenever you want to make the drop. I'm Ready"
At the end of the day, gods possessed responsibilities of which weighed tons atop their shoulders and Thanatos' was one never taken lightly. Overseeing a realm of souls and maintaining the balance with the ever-existing life was a crucial task. Alas, each held their hardships with overseeing the realm, for unlike theirs, his people required no leader, merely a force... A force that was willing to grant them the precious thing snuffed from them, their life. Controlling and commanding Purgatory was a fruitless effort given their inability to interact unless returned to earth.
The soft sounds of footsteps echoed in the silent, greyscale field. The god's eyes strayed back to the young woman who entered his realm, his countenance neutral. Every piece was placed on the table to persuade young Evangeline Tembo to return to the realm of the living. A soft smirk traced his lips as the woman stated she was prepared to return and face the menacing threat of the man who killed her. Alas, Thanatos' plans were particular and his craving for amusement lurked over his shoulders; his weakness.
"Very well, Miss Tembo. Let us begin," his smooth voice echoing from his lips.
The god turned, skeletal hand glowing as he waved in across the young woman's face. A sense of weariness would overcome her from the action, the agreement cemented, but not quite fulfilled... Rather than return her immediately, the god would keep her in a sleep-like limbo until the right time came.
