Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Grayson sighed, rubbing at the back of his neck as the smaller beast questioned why he had stepped in. In his own mind, his actions and the reasoning were obvious. In fact, It was almost depressing that she saw it as a strange thing to do. He could only assume she hadn't spent much time around decent people in her long life. "Helping someone has nothing to do with feeling sorry for them." He grunted, shaking his head. "When you see evil, it's best to snuff it out, don't you think?" He mused, then, taking a bite from the burger while he thought on how to further explain. "I stepped in because what I saw pissed me off. The disgusting bastards..."
At Koyuki's confused questioning of her own tears, Grayson looked down at her, his brows furrowed. This was one situation he wasn't sure how to respond to. "Er..." Trailing off, he sighed, reaching over to pat her head. "You're fine, there's no need for the waterworks..." He huffed awkwardly. "...There's no 'but' to that. You are strong." He pointed out, frowning. "You know that. You could have easily ripped that perverted manager apart just then, if you wanted to." He continued, looking back ahead of himself, but leaving his hand resting atop the girl's head.
"But you didn't. That's a form of strength in itself, Koyuki. From my understanding, us Lich Beasts don't have much in the way of control when it comes to our anger... But you do. You have restraint. That's why, of all the monsters in that restaurant just now, you were not one of them."
His reasoning for helping her was sound but still her tears wouldn't cease. Then suddenly, the man was patting her head. He told her she was strong and that the fact she could have ripped that creepy manager apart if she wanted to but didn't was also a form of strength. He told her she has restraint and that's why out of all the people the restaurant she wasn't a monster. When Koyuki heard this, she looked up at him, her eyes puffy from crying. He didn't think she was monster, he'd saved her and even praised her. Maybe he wasn't a bad person, even if he was tall. Using her sleeve to wipe away the remaining tears, the wolf girl decided it might be okay to tell him about 'that'. "Koyuki hates violence... all it ever does it take from Koyuki, its the reason she's being punished degozaru." Koyuki had never once told anyone about this as it was a source of great pain for her.
"Koyuki killed a human a long time ago, a Shinto priest who had saved Koyuki's life and treated her like family degozaru. He was a good human and Koyuki took his life from him... Koyuki didn't mean to. The forest I protected in Hokkaido was attacked by humans, they killed all of Koyuki's friends and set the trees on fire... Koyuki was blinded by rage and when Koyuki came to her senses, otou-san was dying. She mauled him and yet he still did not hate Koyuki, he smiled at her, even as he drew his last breaths..." As she spoke, she clenched her pants and her expression was twisted with pain and guilt. Her eyes downcast to the ground
She looked up to meet the man's gaze once more. "This form is Koyuki's punishment from Akari. Koyuki killed the person who'd saved her life and cared for her. She was not allowed to join him in heaven or hell or anywhere. So Koyuki just accepts everything as part of her punishment." As she finished saying her piece, she let go of her pants and let her hands fall to her sides and her eyes went downcast once more.
Grayson remained quiet as Koyuki spoke, knowing the story was likely something she needed to get out. Though listening, he used the time to finish eating the burger he'd snatched. Even once she'd gotten it all out, he still didn't immediately respond, only looking ahead of himself in thought. "...Aren't you thinking about it all wrong?" He eventually spoke, looking to Koyuki with furrowed brows once he'd finished the burger. "Sure, you fucked up, but why would you be brought back as punishment?" He questioned, the details not adding up in his own mind.
"Look, think of it this way. Would that old man have wanted you to die? The old man who died with a smile for you? If anything, it makes way more sense that you would have returned because that man wanted you to live." Grayson explained, shaking his head. "That said, what kind of punishment would it be if you were just idly taking everything thrown at you? The whole point of punishment is to urge one to fix their mistakes. In the 300 or so years you've been like this, what have you done to make up for your actions?" He questioned with a pointed look.
"You made a mistake. But from the sound of it, that old man forgave you. There was nothing more for you to be punished for. Stop taking shit from everyone and take responsibility for your actions."
His response to what she had told him. It was surprising but it made sense. Even saying how her being brought back to life in this way was because of Masaki wanting her to live. Koyuki had been going about it all wrong this whole time. This wasn't a punishment. She had been given a second chance, an opportunity to take responsibility for what she'd done. Her tears had all dried up at this point. How would she take responsibility though? What could she do to make up for what she did? Thinking back to what her father used to always tell her she looked back up to meet the man's gaze, her expression now filled with a newfound fire and determination. "you're right, Koyuki needs to take responsibility for what she did, she doesn't know how to yet but Koyuki will figure it out degozaru!" She proclaimed this with confidence and with her head held high.
"You, what's your name? You know Koyuki's name but she doesn't know yours degozaru." She was really curious to know now, especially after everything that had happened. She looked up at him, curiosity filled her eyes, her bushy little tail wagging back and forth and her ears perked up, twitching every so often.
Grayson watched as Koyuki seemed to really think on his words and take them to heart, smirking some as she seemed to brighten. At least, she no longer looked like a kicked puppy. "Right, right." He confirmed, looking back ahead of himself. "You'll figure something out along the way. I'm guessing you haven't been looking up until now, but... You will have chances to better yourself on a regular basis. All you have to do is take them." He spoke, shoving his hands into his pockets in a nonchalant manner as he walked.
As she asked his name, he frowned. He knew it was going to come up eventually, but he'd still dreaded it. He hated giving out his name, especially to those who'd likely have no restraint in using it. Still, glancing down at her, he realized there wasn't really much of a way to get out of it, besides a firm 'no.' "...Fine, fine. My name's Grayson. I'd ask that you don't go spreading it around. I'm kind of a private person." He answered, his expression conflicted. The last thing he wanted was too much attention drawn to himself.
"...Seriously, kid, what the hell is a degozaru?" He then questioned, endlessly bothered by the unknown word. He was starting to get, at this point, that it was some sort of verbal tick, but it still confused the hell out of his mind, hearing it over and over.
He reluctantly gave his name as Grayson and asked her not to go spreading it around, saying he was a private person. What reason would she have for doing so? Nevertheless, she agreed with a firm nod. He then suddenly asked her, "...Seriously, kid, what the hell is a degozaru?" Her ears twitched. She couldn't remember ever being asked about before now, so at first, she had to think of how to explain it. "It's not a thing, in Koyuki's native language, its kind of like a period in the English language. Being that Koyuki was born around the Edo period in Japan, she's been using an archaic form of the sentence particle "desu", does that make sense?" She didn't know if her explanation would be understood.
Grayson listened to the explanation with a furrowed expression, giving no indication whether he really understood. "...Sure. You do you." He replied, at least understanding enough to not be perpetually bothered by the unknown word. "...Hah, you didn't say it after that sentence." He pointed out, his expression turning to an amused smirk at the realization. "Well, whatever. What's your next course of action, here, Koyuki? If you need a new job immediately, I'll help you find one in a better location." He offered, looking over. He was partly at fault for her no longer having one, after all.
"You don't have to limit yourself to restaurants. Bet you would be a hit at any daycare, with those furry appendages on display." He teased, reaching over to lightly flick one of the girls' wolf ears. He usually wasn't so quick to be friendly, but the other Lich Beast's was rather... Disarming.
On that note, he couldn't help but think it interesting that she chose to stay in that semi-transformed form... He knew he'd just look ridiculous with his ears and tail out like that.
