Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

As per usual, Koyuki's analog alarm clock roused the lich beast from her slumber, long after the sun had set. She looked around her small and dirty apartment when her red eyes opened. Rubbing her eyes. Koyuki got up from her futon and headed into the bathroom to wash her face and to take a shower. Even if she was undead, she did work in a place where food was served so she needed to be clean for her work place's sake. Once she'd got all clean, she got dressed and put the futon over the rusted steel balcony of her apartment to air out while she was out at work. Now that all her preparations were complete, she headed out, locking the door behind her.
Koyuki's place of work was a small eatery that was located between downtown and the outskirts. The food was okay but mostly sub-par and the manager was a sleazeball. His business had been suffering due to these things among other reasons. However, as soon as he hired Koyuki, his business began booming. He saw her famine ability as a lich beast as a valuable asset and in exchange for her working there, not only was she gave monetary compensation but any and all leftovers that customers didn't eat or take to go were given to Koyuki.
Upon arriving at work, she clocked in then went into the employee locker room to change into her work clothes. The manager had her always wear a red with white lace french maid uniform with white thigh high socks that had red lace bows at the top and black loafer shoes. The skirt was super short and her tail hiked it up even further in the back. Now that she was changed, she headed out to start working. The manager had Koyuki work as a waitress, the only difference was she just took customers' orders and a different waiter or waitress would bring the food to the tables. This was due to the fact that before when she would deliver the food, she'd end up eating most or all of it before she reached the table, causing quite a stir. She couldn't help it, as a lich beast, she was always hungry. Now, she just was around the customers long enough to take their orders and for her famine to affect them.
At break time, she was given a large plate with a heap of leftovers which she happily scarfed down. Then close to closing time, she was asked to take the trash out, which she did. Finally, midnight came around and she would be free to get out of her ridiculous work clothes. She hurried back to the locker room and changed back into her usual attire. She was given her paycheck along with her leftovers in a to-go box by the manager, clocked out and left through the back. As she exited and went to turn... BAM! she ran straight smack into someone who'd been coming from the opposite direction. The impact knocked her to the ground and sent her to-go box sliding down the back alley. "Ouch! That hurt degozaru!" she said, yelling at no one in particular since she hadn't realized she'd bumped into a person. She had been all giddy with her head in the clouds from the food and payment she'd just received so she was distracted due to that.
Grayson had just woken up for the night. He didn't have much of a wake-up ritual, really, only occasioanlly taking a shower, or otherwise just combing his fingers through his hair before setting off into the streets. This morning, he'd woken up in a rather agitated mood, though there was no telling what had caused it. Could've been the dreams that plagued him. Could've been the fact that he'd been inadventently starving himself. Probably a mixture of both.
As a Lich Beast, it obviously wasn't a good idea for him to go without eating, and he knew it. He knew when his hunger stockpiled, certain things started to look appetizing. Still, when he was busy, there were priorities to be had. Walking along one of the less empty streets of the outskirts, it was to the point where he'd repeatedly caught his gaze lingering on the flesh of those he passed. An urge he often found himself shoving into the back of his mind. Shaking his head, he made a sharp turn for the closest food joint he knew of in the area. He also knew it was an absolute shithole of a restaurant, but he wasn't exactly in the position to be choosy.
Still in a foul mood, Grayson stepped quickly through the back alley behind the restaurant on his way to the front. He heard the door open in front of him. He smelled the person barging out. But even as he paused in his steps, there was no time to dodge, before a small figure practically head-butted him in the gut. Recoiling slightly but holding his footing as the supposed child fell to the ground, growling. He quickly recollected himself, taking stock of what had happened and looking to the small girl who had started yelling. 'Degozaru'? Had she just cursed at him?
"Cut the yelling, kid." He spoke with a grunt, stepping past her to pick up the dropped box and handing it over. It probably would have made more sense for him to help her stand, but he didn't have the manners thing entirely down, yet. Staring down at her as he held out the box, it was only then that he took note of the ears and tail. A shifter? No, there was something off about her stench. She smelled of death. He brows furrowed, he wasn't sure how to react to the realization. He hadn't stood face to face with one of his own kind, before. Certainly not one so small and frail looking. Either way, it wasn't a good thing, as he could feel his own hunger getting worse. Scowling, he dropped the box and turned, continuing on his way to the restaurant's entrance. Priorities.
As Koyuki opened her eyes, she saw a rather tall male looking down on her, with an irritable expression. He called her a kid and told her to stop yelling. Not only was the man tall, he was rude, a terrible combination. "Koyuki is no kid degozaru! Koyuki is a proper adult degozaru!" She protested to the male as she remained on the ground. He had stepped past her to pick up the leftovers she'dropped and handed them to her. Then his expression had suddenly changed to one of surprise. Koyuki smelled a familiar scent from the man, one she knew too well. She quickly hopped to her feet. "You! You are the same as Koyuki degozaru!" the fox girl proclaimed, however, the man simply walked past her in the direction of the eatery. He seemed to be looking for food. It made sense. She looked down at her box of leftovers, seeing none had spilled out. That gave her an idea. She dashed to catch up to the man, stopping just a few feet in front of him, giving him enough time to see her and stop. "You! Koyuki has food she received from her boss degozaru! Koyuki is willing to share them with you since you picked them up for Koyuki degozaru." She said to the tall, rude man. Even though he'd been quite rude to her, she still felt bad for bumping into him and he did pick up the leftovers and return them to her so maybe if she helped him out, he'd be grateful and apologize to her. It was the perfect plan.
When Grayson reached the entrance, he stood with a snarl as he saw the 'closed' sign on the door. Of course it was. Restaurant hours were one of the bigger flaws to his nocturnal schedule. He could hear the kid from earlier yelling after him, but he had no plans to hear her out. It was too risky to linger in his current situation. He had to find somewhere to eat. It was only as she mentioned the word 'food' that he paused, glancing up to where she had blocked his path.
He stared at the large-eared child in suspicion, those his gaze fell to the box. If he were to be honest for once, he wasn't in any position to refuse. He knew that when it got this bad, he was at risk of attacking innocent people. He didn't want to be that sort of monster. Sighing heavily, he gave in. "Fine." He spoke with a low grumble, holding out a hand to take the box. Again, severely lacking in manners. "I'll take them, then." He spoke, a slight sense of urgency in his voice. He couldn't stand this, his hunger worsening as it was.
She claimed she wasn't a kid, but that was still all Grayson could see. Just a little girl with over-sized ears and tail. Though he supposed the chest area did suggest otherwise. "You should realize, it's not going to help anything if I'm eating next to you. You're just making this worse, standing in my way. Leave me be. And maybe watch where you're going, in the future."
The man agreed to take Koyuki up on her offer though with a low grumble accompanying his reply. She watched him put his hand out to accept the box as if he expected her to give him all of it. Koyuki frowned at this and her mood began to go from hopeful to sour quickly. The man noted it wasn't going to help if he ate right next to her, and he was right, she could feel her own hunger growing just by being near him. However, he was beyond rude and expecting her to give him all of her food was ridiculous. She thought for a moment before coming up with another great idea. Koyuki opened the box while inching closer. Once she was in reach of his hand, she dumped a good-sized portion of the food directly onto the man's outstretched hand. "You fool! Koyuki would not give you all of her food degozaru! Koyuki is also very hungry being near you degozaru!" She said while putting a good amount of distance between them. "And for your information, Koyuki is over three hundred years old degozaru! She is not a child degozaru. You are very rude degozaru!" she said before sticking her tongue out at him then dashing off around the corner out of the man's sight. Her first plan had been a failure, he was only rude to her once more. Once she was a decent distance away, she scarfed down the rest of her leftovers. Now Koyuki's stomach was full and she was ready to head home before the sun could rise in a few hours.
Grayson cringed as the food was dumped into his hand, having to struggle against the instinct to drop it. His lips curled into a snarl in agitation, he glared down at the small fox, at a loss for words to the offense. "Brat." He hissed as the girl began putting distance between them, just about to stop her when she stuck her tongue out at him and disappeared beyond the corner. Still he stood there, at a loss on what to do with the handful of leftovers he'd been left with.
Growling, he knew he had no choice but to actually eat, as gross as it seemed. Leaning against the wall, he glared across the alley as he ate the 'offering.' It was beyond below his standards and not nearly enough, but it did take the edge off. Shaking his head, he wiped his hand off against his jeans after licking it clean, and continued off to find another meal. Hunger was a beast, in itself. He half hoped he wouldn't have to deal with that little fox brat again, yet also that he would find her, just so that he could get back at the little shit for that trick.
And what the fuck was a 'degozaru?'
About a week passed after that incident. Grayson caught up on his hunger with no further incident, but the memory still bothered him. It was clear that she had worked at that restaurant, so it wasn't like he couldn't hunt her down if he wanted, but what was the point in that? He wasn't so petty. What really bothered him was simply the fact that there was another Lich Beast in such close proximity. A centuries old one, at that. He supposed he had actually been the child of that encounter. Still, it was odd.
Eventually, he had decided to seek the brat out. He'd woken up early that night and headed for the restaurant where they'd had that first meeting. He was sure there wouldn't be any trouble, finding her there, again. Walking through the door, he barely glanced around the shithole of a restaurant before seating himself at a table, his hands shoved into his pockets as he wanted. Naturally, might as well have a meal while he was there.
A week had passed since her encounter with the rude male lich beast. Thinking back on it, made her smile. Sure, he'd been a rude brute but her little trick she'd played on him was quite funny. Like every night, Koyuki's alarm clock had woke her up so she could get ready and go to work. She did her usual routine and set out. Just like clockwork, she got changed into her dreaded work outfit and started her shift.
Something was different from the usual and the fox couldn't quite put her finger on it. Until when she'd taken her first break and was happily munching on her scraps and leftovers. Her manager barged into the break room. "Koyuki! Business is really booming! Even though you're on break the customers are still ordering and eating more than normal! It's a miracle!"
Koyuki blinked in disbelief at her manager's words. How was that possible? She had been on break for at least ten of her half-hour lunch break. After sharing the news, the manager left the room in a rush. The Fox finished scarfing down her food, hopped to her feet to take a peek at what was going on, her curiosity had gotten the better of her and she had wished it didn't when she spotted the rude man from last week sitting at a table near the back. Why her workplace? She'd soon have to go back to work as soon as her break ended.
Time passed by and before Koyuki knew it, her break time was up. Even worse, the manager made her take the rude man's order. As she walked over to his table, she screamed internally. She reached his table faster than she wanted to. Putting on the best business smile she could muster under the circumstances, the Fox spoke up. "Welcome to Billy's Dinner, can I take your order degozaru?"
Grayson made himself comfortable at the table as he waited, spending a few minutes glancing over the lackluster menu. Even with his permanent hunger, there honestly wasn't anything on it that he would normally settle for. He had standards. This place was far beneath them. At the time droned on, he still waited for the brat to show up, resorting to passing the time with his phone.
When Koyuki finally made an appearance, Grayson glanced up from the device with a look of disinterest. He paused, then, his brows furrowing. "...The hell are you wearing?" He spoke, looking mildly disturbed. The girl barely looked ten and her boss had her dressed up like some kind of french maid? It was basically fetish gear. What kind of creep owned this place?
"Whatever, I don't want to know. You can drop the fake smile, too. You look like you're about to have a annuerism." He huffed, leaning back against the seat. "Get me three of the burgers, then. I want the meat raw, if it's not frozen." He spoke, clearly avoiding looking at the girl, at this point. It practically felt like it would be a crime to do so, real age asiide. "You said your name was Koyuki, last time? I'm not hear seeking revenge or anything, so calm down."
The man had been playing on his phone when Koyuki approached his table. At first, he had a look of disinterest which as soon as he saw her attire, the man's turned to look mildly disturbed followed up by him asking her what she was wearing. Before she could answer his question, he told Koyuki to forget about it and that she could drop the fake smile, noting she looked like she was about to have an aneurysm. She felt relieved and eased up a bit. The man leaned back in his seat with a huff before telling the wolf what he wanted. Three burgers with the meat raw, if it wasn't frozen. At hearing this, Koyuki's ears drooped ever so slightly. She noticed he wouldn't look her way much less make eye contact with her. It was probably due to his initial reaction to her work clothes.
She didn't like the clothes whatsoever, never had she wore something so indecent in all her life or afterlife. Yet, his refusal to look at her was refreshing. All other male customers would never stop leering at her and making lewd comments about her when she left their tables. Before she could inform him that all their meat was frozen, he beat her to it by confirming her name then letting her know he wasn't there to seek revenge and that she could calm down. She didn't know if he was telling the truth or not. For all she knew, he could be trying to get her to lower her guard so he could get his revenge later. "Un! Koyuki is my name degozaru. I don't trust you degozaru. You're rude and what's more, you're tall too degozaru!" She said staring at him with a somewhat sour and distrusting stare. "Also, we only have frozen meat here, what would you like to do degozaru?"
"...What, so part of the reason you don't trust me is because I'm tall? You realize I didn't choose my height, right?" Grayson spoke, a brow quirked at the logic. He didn't bother trying to refute the 'rude' bit. "Well, I don't care whether you trust me or not." He added truthfully with a small shrug. Most people didn't trust him. He gave off that sort of air, after all. But to be called untrustworthy because he was tall was just odd. "What if I were to say I can't trust you, because you're short? Hm?" He taunted back in jest, smirking.
"Figured as much. Fine, just have it cooked enough to not be frozen, I guess." He decided, sighing. Cooked meat had an awful aftertaste. Wasn't as tasteful, either. Though he supposed, he was of a rare kind to think so. "Why are you working here, then? From the look on your face earlier, I'm betting you're not a big fan of that uniform, either. Even if you live nearby, you could probably get a much better job a few miles away." He pointed out, looking back ahead of himself. "I'm sure most restaurants would be eager to hire you, without making you wear demeaning outfits, like that."
He wasn't really one to talk. He had no intentions of finding an actual job, himself. He just got his money from other means, such as info trading, or whatever other odd jobs were tossed his way that required his skills.
The man couldn't seem to understand her reasoning yet he jested back saying, "What if I were to say I can't trust you because you're short? Hm?" Koyuki didn't find his joke very funny. He then told her to have them cook the meat enough that it wasn't frozen. As the wolf was about to take the order to the kitchen, she stopped when the man asked her why she was working at this place. She turned around to face him, confused. Why'd he asked her that? Her ears began to twitch. He also made note of how he noticed she didn't seem to fond of her work clothes and that he was sure other restaurants would be eager to hire her without the need to wear demeaning outfits. Koyuki's ears drooped ever so slightly. "W-why does it matter to you degozaru?"
Koyuki couldn't wrap her head around why someone like him would ask her such a thing. Was he worried about her? Either way, she wanted to try to understand. "Koyuki's worked at other places in the past before but she was fired from all of them degozaru." This was true, she had worked at other restaurants prior but, at each one she wasn't employed for very long after they found out what she was. They all fired her, calling her a monster and other harsh things. Most restaurants were appalled by her true nature. However, she had no intention of telling this person all of that. "Koyuki will go turn in your order to the kitchen degozaru. It will be brought out when its ready so please wait until then degozaru." with that said, Koyuki turned around and headed towards the kitchen.
She turned in his order, then went to go wait on other tables. The next table she went to wait on consisted of a group of three high school and college age looking guys. "Hello, I'm Koyuki and I'll be your waitress degozaru! What would you like to order degozaru?" They all leered at her, with nasty smirks plastered over their faces. They looked at each other briefly before turning their attention back to Koyuki. One of them spoke up; "That's a good question miss, are you on the menu?" Koyuki's ears twitched and her disgust almost broke her business smile, however, she couldn't afford to cause trouble. "Koyuki is not on the menu dear customers, please order something that is degoza-RU HEE!" The one guy who had been sitting on the opposite side of the guy who was ordering suddenly felt up her butt.
"Nice ass ya got there miss hehe. You sure we can't order you?" The guy didn't stop feeling her up whatsoever, it was like it was totally normal. Koyuki felt completely disgusted by this. She wanted so badly to shift and maul these creeps for what they were doing. Koyuki had squinted her eyes partly shut while trying to maintain her composure. Other customers saw what was happening but all of them were pretending not to notice. It was just another day at work. This had become a regular experience. "P-please customers... can you... l-let go of m-my butt... degoza..ru?" However, they simply ignored her plead as the man continued to grope and rub her butt. "Aw what's wrong, not enjoying the massage?" She shut her eyes tight wishing someone for once would save her. As she wished for that, that man's words came back to her. "Why are you working here, then? From the look on your face earlier, I'm betting you're not a big fan of that uniform, either. Even if you live nearby, you could probably get a much better job a few miles away." Not even her co-workers would come to her aide. Even the manager who'd been watching it transpire looked delighted in the creepiest way possible.
As the girl left his table to pass back the order, Grayson once more made himself comfortable at the table, though this time his eyes scanned the interior, rather than returning to his phone. No matter how he looked at it, this wasn't the type of place someone like that needed to be working. Looking at the customers, it was clear from the looks on many of their faces as they looked around, what they were really there for. As Koyuki reappeared from the back, Grayson watched as she continued about her job, approaching another table. He could already see things about to go wrong. He could pratically smell the hormones.
Hearing the first comment from one of the perverts, he was already standing from the table with a growl, as if to make his way over. When the situation quickly devolved to sexual harassment, he was on his way. Everything about the situation was infuriating. Not only the shits at the table but everyone else in the restaurant, ignoring the girl's pleas. Though he was used to keeping his rage in check at this point, if he could have his way, he'd have all of their throats torn out. Instead, he'd have to settle for making an example of the pervert ahead.
Though it continued to escalate as he approached, Grayson snarled, reaching out a clawed hand towards the man from behind. His expression vicious with fangs bared in a bestial manner, his hand tightened around the man's neck, easily lifting him right out of the booth with little warning. Holding the pervert in the air, he gestured for the undead fox to get behind him, holding a thumb against the offender's windpipe to obstruct breathing while he glared down at the others seated at the table. "Lay another finger on the girl, and I'll bite them all off." He threatened with full sincerity, his cold gaze ripping into each one of the creeps. It was only when he felt the man fall unconscious and go limp in his grip that he dropped him atop the table.
Managing to calm himself just enough, then, he ushered Koyuki away from the commotion. He was sure there would be no retaliation from the others at the table. "Go get out of the perverted ass uniform, you're finding a new job."
Things continued to escalate with no sign of anyone coming to help. The first creep reached his hand out ready to grope her chest but his hand stopped abruptly. The pervert who'd been groping her ass was now being held up and chocked by none other than the male lich beast. Only his face looking much more like an angry wild beast. His thumb placed on the pervert's windpipe, obstructing his breathing while he gestured at Koyuki to get behind him. The other two were frozen in fear, same for the other customers. Seeing this unfold, even the manager seemed to be scared but also filled with rage. The Lich beast then spoke up while glaring down at the others. "Lay another finger on the girl, and I'll bite them all off." The pervert he'd been holding in his choking grip, went unconscious and his body grew limp. Seeing that, the Lich beast dropped him on top of the table. The two other perverts screamed like little girls, grabbed their unconscious friend and booked it out of there along with most of the other customers who had been frightened by the man.
Before Koyuki had a chance to react to what had just occurred, she was ushered away by the man. He told her to get out of her outfit and that she was gonna find a new job. For some strange reason, she didn't protest and did as he said. She ran off to the locker room and changed. As she went to exit, the manager burst in, boiling with anger. "This is all YOUR FAULT YOU UNGRATEFUL LITTLE UNDEAD BITCH! YOU SHOULD HAVE JUST LET THE CUSTOMERS DO AS THEY WANTED WITH A SMILE!"As he raged at her, he'd grabbed her by the throat and threw her against the wall. "If it weren't for me so graciously hiring you, you'd never get a single meal in that never-ending pit you call a stomach you filthy mutt!" The manager was choking her as he berated her. She didn't know where he was or if he'd make it in time. Koyuki hated violence, she didn't want to hurt anyone but, if she didn't she'd surely go through much worse hell. As she felt her consciousness start to slip away bit by bit, the wolf decided to act. Her scarlet eyes began to glow, her fangs grew, her claws came out and the smell of death became more potent. Being caught off guard by the frightening sight, the manager let go of her, causing Koyuki to fall to the ground. Her transformation being slower than usual. She spoke in a much rougher voice. "Manager, Koyuki won't stay here any longer, someone for the first time cared about Koyuki and saved her. Koyuki will go with that person and if you try to stop Koyuki, she will make you regret it degozaru!" The manager backed up against the wall out of pure fear. Koyuki's face slowly reverted back to a more human one. The manager couldn't say a thing except. "J-just g-get out of h-h-here you, you monster!" There was that word again. The wolf girl's expression became one of sorrow as her ears drooped. She grabbed her things and walked past the manager, out of the locker room to where she hoped her savior would still be there.
His arms crossed over his chest, Grayson waited in the restaurant for Koyuki to return, leaning against a wall near the door. He had the creeping sensation that it wasn't over, but from what he could see, things were fine. Most of the customers had left after the commotion. Soon enough, however, he noticed just how long the girl was taking to return, and realized the mistake he'd made. He'd dismissed the existance of that sleezeball manager. His shoulders tensing as he knew something that likely happened, he made his way towards the door he'd seen Koyuki disappear behind.
As he reached the door, he paused, the familiar scent of death in the air, and a gruff voice reaching his ears. Realizing there was no need for him to intervene at this point, he took a step back from the door and waited once more. Giving a knowing look to the upset girl, he gestured for her to follow as he moved to leave the restaurant, grabbing an abandoned burger from a table as he passed. It was only once they were outside that he spoke. "You alright?" He asked, eying the red marks on the girl's neck from the strangling. He wanted to ask if she wanted him to go back in and end that manager for her. But she had handled it fine of her own. It would only be undermining for him to intervene any further.
"They see you as an easy target. By showing that their words and actions upset you, you're proving them right." He started. "You handled that just now, fine, but... This." He continued, reaching down to pinch lightly at one of the drooping ears against her head. "You're showing your emotions too openly. If you don't want to be seen as weak, this needs to stop."
When she exited the locker room, the man was standing not too far away. He immediately gestured at Koyuki to follow him as they exited the establishment together although the lich beast didn't forget to grab his hamburger off the plate before leaving. Once outside, he asked if she was alright. Koyuki simply nodded in response, her ears still drooped down. However, after him saying they saw her as an easy target, her downcast gaze went up to meet his. He was lecturing her but she couldn't protest because he was right. Then he suddenly pinched one of her drooping ears. "You're showing your emotions too openly. If you don't want to be seen as weak, this needs to stop." The man was right. She had always been the type to show her emotions, even if it wasn't done intentionally. "You, why did you save Koyuki degozaru? Did you feel sorry for her or what degozaru?" She couldn't understand his actions. All her life and even her afterlife, there had only ever been one person who'd truly been kind to her. Masaki, her father figure. He was a human, who treated her like a daughter and looked after her. Koyuki hated people, she distrusts them for everything that they are. She had always acted for the sake of her own survival.
As Koyuki thought about all this, everything she'd been through up to this point, tears suddenly poured out of her eyes. "Eh? Why is Koyuki crying degozaru?" she said, confused as she tried to wipe all the tears away but they wouldn't stop. Now she was full on crying. "Koyuki wants to be strong but, but!" why wouldn't the tears stop she wondered.

The templates my members use are credited to their maker, if you find a template that belongs to you, but is uncredited, please speak to Chibi Magician or the member themself. Characters created on The Duality of Man are credited to their owners and should not be used elsewhere without the creator's permission.
