Jaki Når du ved Helgrindi står og når du laus deg må riva skal eg fylgje deg. general info
appearance As an elemental golem, Jaki holds some semblance of control over their appearance to a degree. There are a few limitations as well as personal preferences that remain consistent. Jaki stands roughly 6’2”, though by redistributing the material within their body they are able to alter their height give or take a few inches. This takes time and tends to bulk them up when shorter or increase their fragility when taller. Their original height at their point of creation was 6’2” and remains the standard. This is significantly taller than the average male height at the time (5’7”-5’9”), which was an intentional design choice for added intimidation in battle. It is not possible for Jaki to drastically change their height to, say, that of a child or a giant, though even more than six inches would likely be too much. If the form is too small it will not be stable enough to contain the heartcore bound with an adult soul, but too large and the core would not be able to control the full extent of the body. Jaki is also limited to human forms as a human soul was used in their creation and any other species would be considered foreign and rejected by the heartcore. Being made of solid ice, in their natural state Jaki is completely transparent. When resting or repairing they tend to revert to this appearance in order to direct the focus of the heartcore on healing and restoring power. Located at the center of their sternum is their onyx heartcore, a large black heart, that glows a deep crimson and highlights the spells carved upon it. However, while active, within Jaki’s heartcore are spells that not only prevent signs of melting, but also act as a disguise. These enchantments, carved in Norse runes, place a sort of glamour over Jaki to give the appearance of flesh. However, this veil is thin, giving their skin a ghastly pale appearance and if one were to hold Jaki’s hand to the light they would see it pass through to an almost unsettling degree. This flesh also holds no warmth and betrays the ice beneath with its unadulterated chill. While the glamour manages the appearance of skin, it is ineffective in certain parts of the body. Jaki’s hair still maintains its icy quality. Because hair is fine and easily disturbed the individual strands would be impossible to remain covered by the spell. Thus their hair appears like strands of fine frost, transparent, yet when layered on their head appear more of a blue-ish white and opaque. The glamour also does not extend to inside their mouth, making their tongue, teeth, and general interior completely transparent with some opaque points where the ice is particularly dense, such as teeth and tongue. Their features are rather angular with high cheekbones and a flawless complexion (when completely healthy that is). A somewhat prominent forehead is obscured by their bangs, which are quite long and disheveled, falling past their eyes and parted to the right. Jaki’s eyes are one of their more prominent features, framed by thin, straight brows and thick lashes. Set rather wide apart and almond in shape, their irises are willfully free from disguise thereby giving them a strikingly crystal clear hue. There is a subtle hint of blue, but it is almost imperceptible from a distance. Despite their lack of vividity, there is an undeniable spark within their gaze burning like the inner core of a flame. Their nose is long and slim, upturned towards the end. Beneath are fairly thin lips that, like their complexion, are lacking in warmth and significant pigmentation to an almost pale purple hue. Jaki’s voice is not particularly deep, roughly in the tenor range. If one listens intently they can hear a slight reverb which adds a subtle cold, metallic effect due to the ice that forms their body. In build Jaki is extremely androgynous. Though tall, their frame is slender and willowy. Their ribcage is moderately wide and flat with a graceful dip to a narrow waist. The majority of their curves are found in their hips and posterior, giving a gentle arch to their back. Jaki’s limbs are lengthy and lithe, giving no indication to their enhanced strength. During their viking days, Jaki held a similar build, which stood in stark contrast to their fellow Norsemen. However, they prefer speed to durability and avoid the added bulk of mimicking muscle. Their posture is almost feline-like, straight and proud, yet somewhat tense with an air of wariness and caution. With precise movements and a calculating gaze, they give an aura of both confidence and awareness. Today’s fashion trends hold little appeal to the ice golem. They are familiar with practical attire, handmade and flawed. This is not to say there was no accessorizing among vikings, but it was far more limited and reserved for the wealthy in comparison to contemporary style. Jaki had little use for extravagance in the 10th century and continues to today. The clothes they have are what TRS provided upon their waking, simple and functional. Their color preferences tend to favor black and white, unlike the more neutral and earthy tones they wore in the past. A simple, short sleeve, white button down clings to their frame, complimented only by a black tie. On occasion Jaki will pair this with a light sweater, though not during warmer months. Jaki had learned that this was considered “business attire”, or at least elements of such, and thus seemed appropriate to work in, although incredibly unfamiliar to them. For pants, Jaki prefers shorts in white or black. Anything longer would only add to the debilitating heat in this significantly more southern climate than they are accustomed to. Simple black boots cover their feet and muffle the otherwise solid, unpadded sound of their icy steps. Jaki is rarely ever seen without a pair of black gloves over their slim hands, not wanting to disturb anyone with their chilling touch. On casual days, Jaki prefers lightweight sweaters and tunics, typically with a wide belt cinching the waist. Since they are not anticipating battle on such days, they have a small collection of loose trousers to wear in addition. Their boots and gloves remain the same. If trying to be discreet, Jaki does own a couple thin sweatshirts and hoodies in order to hide their more noticeable features beneath. Running qualities in their style choice are austerity and functionality. They were created with survival in mind and, thus, have little interest in clothing without purpose. personality
Jaki’s behavior, personality, and morals were shaped and continue to hold true to the environment and culture they were created in. The world that was over a thousand years ago was vastly different to that of the present, which causes some disconnect for the golem. Yet Jaki remains unchanged in their core values. Having been built for raiding and battle, they are quick-witted and knowledgeable on how to utilize the environment to their advantage. Rather than viewing problems as disruptive or impassable, Jaki sees them as a challenge and chance to prove themselves. Mentions of new adventures and discoveries excite them, however not to the degree where they lose their wits. Jaki remains aware of their surroundings, especially in unfamiliar territory, noting small details and making them somewhat guarded. This is all driven by a fierce survival mindset. But this is not to say Jaki would favor self preservation and forsake alliances. They were steadfast in loyalty to their fellow warrior and shield-maiden, viewing them like family. Jaki continues to view allies to this day in the same manner. Knowing their own invulnerability, Jaki would not hesitate to take a hit for the sake of a comrade. Their bravery borders on martyrdom, viewing themselves more as a tool or weapon than a living being. To authority, Jaki is respectful to a degree. If the law becomes morally corrupt or too restricting, Jaki has been known to act of their own accord. They tend to keep their interests and that of those they care about as their main priority. While they may be a golem, they still have ambitions and plans for the future, even if it merely to support the efforts of others. Morality is highly valued to Jaki and they tend to be harsh and judgemental to those lacking them in turn, especially if it risks the wellbeing of others. But Jaki does have a sense of self and pride, particularly as a Norseman. Though no longer human, a warrior’s soul was used in their creation and Jaki clings to the pride that lingers within them. They do not take kindly to insult are quick to take offense to minor jibes, though they may not initially express their discontent and instead come across as passive aggressive. Their pride is not beneath being twisted into conceit if they believe they are acting in the name of justice or on a higher moral standing. Those outside of Jaki’s raiding party considered them to be a monster, as most golems are made out to be throughout history and varying cultures. But while Jaki did not necessarily embrace the idea, they were not opposed to it. They are very much aware of their flaws that could be deemed monstrous. Jaki is quick to anger and fight when attacked, all the more so if the enemy is using underhanded methods. If wronged, they will happily return the favor tenfold. Those outside of whom they consider companions are free game and collateral damage is not a huge concern. While they would like to consider themselves as righteous and fair, it is mainly limited to those they care for. Jaki would not go on blind killing spree without purpose, and typically would not harm those that have done no wrong to them. But for those that they view as guilty or hindering them from achieving a goal would be cut down with little thought to their background or circumstances. They are merely an obstacle to be overcome, a challenge which Jaki is willing to confront with deadly for without a second thought. The same goes for those foolish enough to harm Jaki’s companions, their fighting nature eager to get involved in their defense. Jaki is a vengeful being and when paired with their determination they are not easily swayed. Battle-hardened nature aside, first impressions are somewhat difficult for Jaki. In the present day, the unfamiliar world is somewhat unsettling and puts them on edge. They often come off as initially cold and reserved, but this is merely their more analytical tendencies. When meeting new people Jaki is cautious and prefers to feel out their personality before opening up themselves. However, once acquaintances Jaki is relatively friendly, if not witty and easily amused. They enjoy companionship and idle chatter, but discussing grim aspects of their past can be more than a little difficult for them. Though proud of their past as a warrior, they continue to carry a heavy burden of guilt and loss. Jaki is prone to flashing back to their final battle while in intense combat or under severe amounts of stress. This leaves them feeling vulnerable and volatile, lashing out at those that pry and building walls to keep people at bay. Their troubled soul is even capable of creating “nightmare” scenarios while resting, reliving every brutal moment of the skirmish where they were eventually lost at sea. Sometimes Jaki even experiences small snippets of memories that belong to their soul prior to becoming a golem, which will jumpstart them into an active and sometimes violent state. These memories are often equally traumatic if not more so than what Jaki has experienced due to the intensity of emotion and confusion for having not endured the memory firsthand. One way for Jaki to calm down is by secluding themselves to think and meditate in order to settle their thoughts and reaffirm their existence in the present. Even so, certain things can trigger Jaki’s lingering anxiety. They refuse to go near the ocean and their once overwhelming passion for sailing has been tainted. Talks of sailing unsettle them and you would be hard pressed to get them onto a boat. Jaki now prefers the comfort of the forest or mountains to that of the sea. They continue to blame themselves for the utter decimation of their companions during their final battle. abilities Enhanced Strength - Beginner While a typical ability of golems, Jaki is somewhat tricky when it comes to strength. The amount of force they can apply is highly dependent upon their durability, which in turn is dependent on temperature. In warmer climates and during hotter seasons, Jaki is considerably weaker. At around 70 F/21 C and higher the amount of force they are able to apply is not much stronger than that of an average adult male. Attempting to apply force beyond that while under such conditions would result in Jaki’s form sooner shattering than causing significant damage. However when temperatures are well below freezing (32 F/0 C) their strength dramatically increases along with the durability of their ice. They are more than capable of decimating wood and bone, fracturing, if not crumbling rock, and bending steel pipes like wire. Unless these temperature conditions are met, Jaki’s enhanced strength is typically below average compared to most other species with similar abilities. It would take several consecutive blows to deal damage to metal or stone and likely cause minor fracturing in the process, thus they tend not to rely on their strength, but speed. Enhanced Agility - Advanced Where Jaki lacks in strength, they make up for in speed. They were created in a world where it was survival of the fittest, and usually that meant the fastest. This did not necessarily mean the first to strike held the advantage, but the one that was consistently able strike in quick succession. While solid ice is certainly heavy, this can help Jaki build momentum to build speed in consecutive blows. They are also able to manipulate and redistribute the ice within their body, allowing them to hollow out a limb to make it lighter and faster in the initial strike. However in doing so they decrease the durability and strength behind the altered area. So, a solid leg would initially kick slower, but repeatedly would build up momentum to be faster in following strikes, while a hollowed leg would kick consistently faster, but the blow would have less force so as not to shatter the limb. This ability is particularly useful in their preferred fighting style, speed being the main factor in taking down their opponent. Martial Arts - Lausatök - Advanced The viking fighting style found particularly in Norway known as Lausatök was first introduced to Jaki almost immediately after their creation. The skill came somewhat easily to them due to residual memories from their soul having already mastered the style. It is known as loose-grip or free-grip wrestling. The key factor in Lausatök is speed, which Jaki excels at. One must grasp their opponent, typically around the chest, leg, arm, or throat, and strike quickly at pain-inducing pressure points to get the opponent to fall to the ground. In sport the strikes are not intended to severely injure, merely take down so that one is able to step back and out of arm’s reach. However, in self-defense or combat the style is significantly more aggressive. Strikes are typically made with the sole of the foot, open palm, or closed fist with a raised index to precisely, but not leathally, strike pressure points. There are numerous rules in place for Lausatök Glima, the sporting version of the fighting style. Repeated cheap shots to break bone or throw an opponent on their head to even turning one’s back on their opponent are seen as “níð” or unsportsmanlike. This could get one disqualified from a sporting match. While not in battle or raiding, Jaki did participate in Lausatök Glima and, naturally, were skilled with their enhanced abilities. However, awareness is key in anticipating your opponent, thus Jaki was still capable of being grounded in a match if they did not keep their wits about them. In battle, the skills learned in sports matches could be applied in both armed and unarmed combat. Lausatök is a primary reason why history regards vikings with such ferocity. Ice Manipulation (Limited) - Master Arguably Jaki’s most useful ability, they are able to manipulate the ice within their body to a degree. This is limited to the material connected to the heartcore, thus they are no longer able to control or attach pieces of their body that have been broken off. But for what remains attached Jaki is able to redistribute and alter the form of the ice. They can hollow out areas of the body (lowering their durability) in order to reinforce other areas or decrease weight to a limb. The shape limbs and other smaller areas can be greatly manipulated, though it is dependent upon the amount of material available. By smoothing out the material within their arm they can form it into the blade of a sword or by pulling material from other areas of the body they could form a throwing axe. Jaki is even willing to break off an arm that is formed into a weapon in order to freely throw it. However, doing so completely removes the limb and cannot be reformed in battle without redistributing the majority (if not entirety) of the material from another area. Manipulating the material also takes time, anywhere from ten seconds or more depending on the degree of manipulation. This means they cannot detract material from an area being attacked with enough speed as a means of dodging, such as contouring out their shoulder in order to avoid the path of a bullet. But, they could attempt to break out of an opponent’s grip by spiking the ice beneath their hold into them, or, if that should be ineffective, redistributing the material entirely and severing whatever is being held if necessary. Both fire and vibrations are capable of slowing, if not completely disrupting, their ability to manipulate ice. Should a part of the body be hit with direct, high heat the ice will melt and the now heated area can make the remaining surrounding material difficult to control. Ice capable of absorbing vibrations, similar to the wood of instruments, though to a lesser degree. Due to the complexity of the crystalline structure there is a high amount of tension and strong vibrations can cause cracking, even shattering if powerful enough. Due to the speed with which sound waves travel through water it would be impossible for Jaki to be fast enough to compensate for the damage. Immortality - Natural Like most other golems, Jaki is unaffected by the passing of time. Unless their onyx heart core is damaged they are essentially unable to be completely destroyed. This does not mean they cannot be incapacitated in battle as they cannot regenerate or heal anywhere near a reasonably brief amount of time. However, even if their entire ice form were to be shattered, so as long as someone collected their heartcore it could be placed within water and reform the body. This would take an extremely long amount of time, at least two to five months depending on the temperature of where they are healing, due to the complexity of their ice form. More minor injuries or lost limbs can be repaired by resting while submerged in water overnight. Very minor fractures can be repaired by consuming water-based fluids while active, though this takes at least eighteen to twenty-four hours to take full effect. Low Temperature Resilience - Natural As Jaki is made of ice, they are resistant to drops in temperature. Cold environments have no negative impacts on their body and, in fact, only serve to make them stronger. Ice-based attacks are also ineffective as the ice forming Jaki is enhanced in durability by the spells carved into their heartcore. Thus standard ice could not damage them, even when fighting in high temperatures. Enhanced Auditory Processing - Natural Due to the nature of ice absorbing vibrations, Jaki is capable of hearing sounds clear and more brightly than the average person. They are also not limited to traveling merely in an ear canal, but throughout the whole body. This give Jaki more time to process the sound, enabling them to better decipher and pinpoint where the sound is coming from. Since muscles do not play a factor the actual hertz they are able to hear are not restricted to the typical 20000 Hz of a human, though they must be in range of the sounds vibrations through the air to actually hear them. Naturally, this can make noisy environments distracting as so many vibrations are passing through the air at once and, thus, through them. Jaki is also weak to the intensity of a sounds vibration, its volume. Stronger vibrations can cause fracturing in their body due to the tension already present in ice. Enhanced Durability - Natural Runes carved across Jaki’s heartcore increase the quality of the ice directly connected to it. The material is not as fragile as standard ice and capable of taking hits without damage, though this can vary. As stated previously, Jaki’s durability is heavily dependent upon temperature. During the spring and summer seasons they tend to be at their weakest or while in any heated room. However, rather than constantly being drenched from melting and losing the form of their body, the remaining ice is hollowed out to hold the loose water and maintain shape. With their limbs hollowed to contain water they are more liable to fracture or completely shatter. In contrast, during the fall and winter, as well as while in generally colder environments, the ice continues to harden. At temperatures of -1 F/-18 C and below Jaki is considered to be at their full potential. One could calculate the weight their body could hold without cracking similarly to gauging that of a frozen lake. With a torso of roughly 10” in diameter, one of the thickest part of their body, they could take upwards of two to three tons of direct pressure before cracking. This is particularly helpful as their heartcore is located at their sternum to spare from damage. Though this is not taking force into account, nor what is applying the pressure. An icepick could still deal some chips and fractures to their body, but at pique performance it is unlikely to be able to shatter them at their widest diameters. Despite this heightened durability, Jaki remains weak to fire manipulation. Even under the best circumstances Jaki would still suffer severe melting, if not loss of limb if hit with a direct attack of fire. It is also important to note that Jaki’s heartcore is carved from black onyx, which has a hardness of 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale, which is equivalent to granite. It is further enhanced in its strength by the various spells placed during its creation so as not to shatter easily. Enhanced Endurance - Natural As they are not subject to the bodily functions of a typical living being, Jaki’s energy levels are not dependent upon oxygen or sustenance. They have no muscles, therefore do not create lactic acid, enabling them to move and run for extensive periods of time. This is not to say they are without limits. While they could easily go several days more than the average human without sleep and not lose consciousness or fall ill, the heartcore is forced to overwork itself. This can make controlling and maintaining the body difficult. Jaki would lose control over more advanced ice manipulation and their durability would decrease due to the heartcore lacking energy to the power the spells enhancing the ice. It is in Jaki’s best interest to rest daily like a mortal in order to allow the heartcore to go dormant and recharge in order to repair any damage received. Pain Suppression - Natural Jaki’s ability to feel and touch is processed through the vibrations of molecules and friction. While the actual vibration on a molecular level is too subtle to feel, the temperature of the material is altered (solids tending to be cooler than liquids or gases, unless a heat source is applied). Also by touching surfaces the resulting friction from vibrations is able to pass through Jaki’s body. These vibrations, however subtle, travel to their heartcore to be interpreted. The vibrations are conveyed and then related to memories of the soul. Thus, they are able to distinguish touch and the sensation of different materials without electrical impulses. As their body is merely ice, they lack a nervous system that would process sensations such as pain and pleasure. They could distinguish hot from cold by the vibrations, but would not feel discomfort. Since pain is not dependent upon vibrations, but electrical impulses, receptors, and chemicals in a living body this sensation cannot be processed. The same applies to distinguishing pleasure, though certain vibration frequencies and decibels can affect Jaki. vulnerabilities Sound Manipulation Sound being the product of vibrations can be a double-edged sword for Jaki. Ice absorbs vibrations to a degree, which allows Jaki to process touch and sounds. But increase the intensity and they can be a liability. An enemy with control over sound, particularly over decibels, could cause damage. This is the closest Jaki could come to feeling discomfort by being exposed to such intense vibrations. Their body can only absorb so much before fracturing or shattering, but before that point they are liable to become dazed, unbalanced, deafened, and unable to distinguish touch. This could even disrupt their ability to manipulate ice, making redistribution of material imbalanced or impossible to alter their form even minorly. Unless they are able to guard themselves with a material that muffles sound or escape to a location far enough from the source, it would be a difficult weakness to counter. This can also work on a more subtle level, as their sensitivity to vibrations tends to increase closer to where their heartcore resides in their sternum. Minor vibrations experienced within that area can have a similar dizzying, almost euphoric affect. Fire Manipulation While high temperatures merely decrease Jaki’s durability, their heartcore’s spells compensating for melting, a direct attack of fire is far more dangerous. Those with fire manipulation or weaponry pose a particular threat. The intensity of heat from fire-based attacks is more than capable of melting Jaki’s body if the full blow is received. Grazing hits can singe their body, exposing the ice beneath and increasing the temperature of the surrounding ice. This weakens the durability and also makes it more difficult for Jaki to manipulate. Heat from fires, while intense, will not cause visible melting without direct contact. They can, however, cause rapid melting contained by the heartcore within the ice. Jaki’s only defense from such attacks is to dodge or flee to a cooler location to avoid further damage. Ice Manipulation Though not vulnerable to ice-based attacks, Jaki is at a severe disadvantage if they encounter an enemy capable of manipulating ice. Jaki’s entire body is ice, even if it is enhanced with spells, and their heartcore is frozen within. On their own they would be at the mercy of their enemy with little chance to escape without assistance. Jaki could make it difficult to control their body by countering with their own ice manipulation. So while unlikely to be puppeteered against their will, Jaki would be left rigid, unable to move as they fight back for control. This would take their entire focus and would easily leave them vulnerable for attack. backstory Tell us your life story! Please have at least one 5 sentence paragraph. Even if your character is an amnesiac there should be one pretty little paragraph right here. <3 misc - Likes: winter, snow, earth tones, hiking, camping, meditating, singing, athletics, exploration, cloudy days, sparring/wrestling, competitions, forests, - Dislikes: swimming (they cannot), summer, sun, blankets and layers, confined spaces, excessive noise, - Fears: oceans, sinking, boats - Prior to the Battle of Svolder, Jaki had a great passion for sailing, despite being unable to swim due to their heartcore causing them to sink. - Jaki’s resting state is similar to that of sleeping for other beings, though closer to a meditative state than an actual REM cycle. They are incapable of dreaming, but can relive their memories and fragments of memories of the soul used to make them. Jaki’s preferred place to rest is not a bed, but a pool of water. Within their room at TRS headquarters is a large stone bathtub which they fill every night with enough water to completely cover their person while lying flat. Jaki has no need to breathe and is able to use the surrounding water to repair broken limbs and cracks while resting. Attempting to rest without being surrounded by water is nearly impossible for Jaki. - Being made of ice, Jaki has no need to eat, drink, or breathe. They are capable of feeling through the vibrations and friction, which travel through the ice in their body to resonate the soul and be conveyed and related to their memories. However, they have no taste or smell receptors, nullifying those senses. Since their body is without organs, they are unable to process food. But Jaki is able to consume water-based fluids (no alcohol) and disperse them through the body to heal minor fractures. This is not the ideal way to heal as it takes roughly twice as long as standard healing while resting and fully surrounded by water. The delay is due to the fluid being agitated by movement and requiring excess amounts of energy that are already being drawn upon to keep Jaki functioning. They have only resorted to this method in the past during long voyages at sea. - Jaki is capable of feeling emotion within their soul and emoting through facial expressions, but they lack certain indicators due to their golem body. Crying, along with the production of any body fluid, is impossible as they lack the necessary organs to create tears. They are also unable to blush when embarrassed or angry, even with their mask of skin active as their body temperature remains static. Over time, Jaki has adopted certain body cues to compensate for these. When sad Jaki will furrow their brow and their gaze will become downcast, rather than cry. In embarrassing situations they will turn away, avert their gaze, and cover their mouth with their hand. - While deep in thought Jaki enjoys singing quietly to themselves. They know a number of traditional Norse songs, which help them to focus. - Jaki is fluent in Old Norse as it is their original language, and can understand some Icelandic which is derived from it. They only recently learned English, and while relatively fluent they do still struggle a bit with finding certain words, occasionally slipping back into Old Norse if they can’t find it or are excited, distracted, frustrated, etc. - Though they have never formally consulted a therapist, Jaki would be diagnosed with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder due to their anxiety, avoidance, flashbacks, “nightmares”, and emotional distress. | roleplayer info ☆ NAME Frost ☆ RP EXPERIENCE On/off 15+ years ☆ TIMEZONE US EST ☆ GENDER Female ☆ AGE 23 ☆ OTHER CHARACTERS @takumisatou @raoulbellerose ☆ FACE CLAIM HOUSEKI NO KUNI, Antarcticite ---------------------- THIS CHARACTER BELONGS TO FROST.
