Mostly it is loss that teaches us,
There was an odd feeling of joy and dread in the air now as realization dawned on Nathan. This entire conversation was bringing them closer and the vampire was certain that he disliked the prospect, yet, he still found himself sitting at the table. The fact his ceramic mug was empty did not matter anymore, he was enjoying the trivial conversation despite his certainty that this was merely occurring due to his usefulness. When Nathan glanced up and noticed that Caelumina was hiding her smile, he was slightly confused by the action. It somewhat was revealed on his face as he watched her for a few moments. The dark haired girl was definitely the interesting sort and made the atmosphere fun with her ability to take his teasing and even the way she teased him back. Nathan found himself unable to escape due to the enjoyment of the interaction.
That was when Caelumina mentioned heading out for Karaoke afterwards. Instinctively, Nathan flinched both due to the surprise of the offer and the horrible thoughts about his singing voice. It held the slightest tones of date, but the vampire was fairly certain the girl did not mean it in that sense. They had been having an excellent conversation, but it changed little about how much they knew about each other. Yet, when he noticed Caelumina's gaze leave him and the slightest hints of red on her cheeks, he became less certain. The spectacle made Nathan's own cheeks burn and tint a pale red at the prospect. Either way he planned to turn down the offer; he could not warrant her getting too much closer. For a few moments, the vampire remained silent while he looked away himself. The air seemed to grow more awkward the longer he remained silent and ignoring the question probably was not going to help.
"Uh, no thanks. I'm not one for that kind of stuff," he responded.
The tone of his voice possessed a foreign awkwardness and quiet that was uncommon for Nathan's voice. Taking a glance at Caelumina due to what had just occurred. It would probably just create more of an awkwardness, but the vampire was finding it particularly difficult after what happened. Recovering from what were likely false thoughts was more difficult than Nathan had expected it to be, leaving him trapped looking elsewhere for a while. Clueless was how the green haired man was feeling; he had never been in these sorts of situations. When the young man finally managed to bring his gaze back, he saw Caelumina's puffed out cheeks and began chuckling again. Seeing the girl puff her cheeks out like that humored him for some reason; he just thought the appearance was funny. Eventually, the red left his face and Nathan was chuckling again at the conversation. When she glanced at the counter it only made it even better.
His snickering grew louder when Caelumina was looking at the counter. Then when her face turned red, Nathan began laughing a little louder. Saying that was definitely an excellent idea considering the results it brought as of her reaction. When Caelumina attempted to hide behind her scarf the snicker grew once more. The amusement was written across Nathan's face, making it clear that he was enjoying the girl's reactions. It was an obvious lie when she stated that she was not thinking of purchasing another doughnut.
"Oh really?" Nathan teased. He wagged his finger at her again. "Something tells me you're lying again, Cae."
There was a playfulness in the vampire's voice, he was really enjoying this. It was obvious by the expression on his face and the tone of his voice. Leaving behind these emotions of joy was definitely going to be a difficult task since it kept drawing him into the wonderful world of friends. The only thing that kept him away from the idea now was the thoughts of losing his brother and nanny, all that pain that his lonesome world defended him from. Shortly, the laughter quieted and Nathan began staring into the empty cup; perhaps he was indulging his social side too much? Yet, he could not find the nerve to leave or attempt to scare Caelumina off; she was a pleasant and nice presence. For a while the concept of singing was completely out of his head, until the concept of the dark haired girl being better than him was brought up. It attacked his arrogance, and instantly Nathan straightened his back.
"What? No way are you better than me," Nathan stated. A tease followed after his statement. "I can keep a rhythm after all."
To punctuate his point about keeping a rhythm, he began drumming his fingers against the table's surface while he smirked at Caelumina. The drumming kept the same rhythmic smoothness as it possessed before which gave his point the emphasis he was searching for. When the dark haired girl began chuckling again, Nathan gave her a bemused look. He was clueless to what she could possible be laughing at.
"What are you snickering about?" Nathan asked curiously.
The conversation soon returned to the topic of Caelumina's self-control, this time is revolving around cute things. It resulted in more snickering on Nathan's part and a lip tight smile coming across his face. Nathan did secretly had a soft spot for cute things, although, he would never admit that. Stating such would make him look soft and his sadistic mask that he maintained with most people would be completely gone; or at least those who were tougher to scare would laugh at him. Personally, he would prefer not to have the task of scaring people off become difficult. When the doughnuts were brought up again, Nathan offered her a shrug while he leaned back in his chair.
"Meh, I'm just skeptical since I'm specific when it comes to baking," Nathan stated simply.
That was an excellent way to put it, that he was merely specific about his baking instead of outright stating he enjoyed blood in it. Although, it would not be far fetched for a vampire to enjoy such a thing. It was hard to ignore the idea of taste with Caelumina softly smiling at him; clearly she really enjoyed them and wanted to spread that joy to others. When the conversation turned to his parents, he noticed how Caelumina dropped the topic and opted to go back to the topic of clothing. A gleam of appreciation shone in the young man's eyes since he immensely disliked speaking about his parents and their achievements. They were merely a missing part of his life; a reminder of his longing for parents who would have been there for him. Their absent ultimately caused them to not feel like parents to him and instead like complete strangers. When the dark haired girl agreed with him, even adding how marvelous it would be to just go around in pajamas.
"Walking around in pajamas everywhere sounds amazing," Nathan agreed. "If only that was possible."
The sudden question towards which colour he enjoyed got Nathan to raise an eyebrow. Nobody asked him such things, thus once again making the concept foreign. It was a basic question, something that people asked all the time in the form of 'what's your favourite colour?'. Throughout the younger grades teachers and friends constantly asked the question, but it had managed to turn into a strange question nowadays to the young vampire. The vampire gave her a slight shrug at the question as an answer.
"I like both to be honest. Don't have much of a preference really," Nathan answered simply. "Why do you ask anyways?"
He was clueless to why Caelumina had inquired him on the topic, and would be unlikely to figure it out. Thus, he merely watched the girl's expressions for a few moment while he leaned back in his chair with his arms crossed over his stomach. A few moments were spent with Nathan being silent as he wondered if this was going to be some sort of strange secret.
