Jean LaChance Here's a little trick, you'll be dead with one click. BOOM! general info
appearance Jean stands at 183 cm (6'0"), being nicely between average and above average, so he doesn't stand out too much on that alone. To compliment his height he's quite fit, having a healthy amount of muscle which is hidden quite well under clothing. While his height and body type might be average, Jean's facial features stand out a bit more, with him being a rather handsome man with mature charms and sharp eyes, grey in color. On top of this, he has short, black hair, which quite often is kept stylishly messy. Jean's toned body is also surprisingly clean of injuries despite his occupation as a hunter, though the one time he did sustain a serious injury resulted in him losing his arm above the elbow, the lost part having been now replaced by a mechanical arm. The arm holds no special functions to it and has no artificial skin on it, as Jean insisted on not wanting such a thing on it. The arm holds no special features to it, though where it connects to what is left of Jean's arm is a piece of metal it is connected allowing easy removal (though it requires you to know what to do) and replacement. His prosthetic arm aside, the most unique thing about Jean's appearance is his attire. He tends to dress up quite nicely, with his most common set is a black vest, a dark red dress shirt and black trousers made out of a material as durable as the jacket provided by TSR and combat boots or leather shoes depending on whether he's working or not. If working he also wears an unmodified red TSR jacket meant for Elite Hunters. It isn't this however that makes his attire unique. It's the top hat, a single dark red glove worn on his right hand and masks with different markings that he always wears, which makes him appear like a magician or a trickster. Under the mask, he wears a ski mask in case the mask is taken off, or that's what he says. In case Jean goes somewhere he isn't allowed to wear masks, he won't insist on keeping them on, but instead just puts on some rather stylish shades. personality
- Jean is the sort who has a habit of paying attention to people, be it their mannerisms or expressions, being able to notice even quite subtle things. As he knows how much you can read a person from their face alone, Jean at some point started wearing a mask. He just feels uncomfortable with the possibility of people being able to read him, being a person who enjoys keeping some things to himself and his privacy. For the same reason, he isn't fond of being around people with abilities that allow reading thoughts and emotions. Him being around a person completely unmasked is a big sign of trust. - Though someone who doesn't believe in objective morality or meaning, Jean isn't a generic characterization of a nihilist. Even if there is no universal meaning and morality he himself gives his life what meaning he thinks it has and lives by what he himself thinks is right. He doesn't go around flaunting things about wrong and right or justice and evil and doesn't think highly of those who do. - Jean doesn't take things at face value but instead chooses to personally look into them and then comes to a conclusion. After that, you'll have a hard time changing his mind though, as he can be outright stubborn with his opinions. - Thanks to smarts and a cool head, Jean has always been quite the pragmatist, choosing the most efficient way whenever possible and never allows himself to get his head into the clouds. He'll always be that one person to look at things from a realistic perspective. This and his general style of combat has allowed him to become an efficient hunter as well have the highest mission survival rate in TSR. LIKES: masks, stylish clothes, sleight of hand, tricks, entertaining people, movies, reading, strategy games, children, half cloudy days, jazz, orchestral music, playing the piano, cooking, sweets, cute things, critical thinking, philosophy, beauties, teasing DISLIKES: being unmasked, sandals, party poopers, romcoms, most modern comedy and horror movies, extreme weathers, goatees, bees (allergy reasons) pop music, heavy metal, cheap beer, red cabbage, recklessness, naivete, generalization, pain, extremism, abilities Gifted Abilities Flatten & Fold 'em [Mastered]: An ability which allows Jean simply by touching something with his right hand (used to be both, but y'know) to turn practically anything which is solid into a 2:3 piece of paper, with the turned thing trapped inside it looking like a picture, and fold them into the size of about 5 centimeters wide no matter how big it may be. The size of the object turned doesn't matter when turned into a piece of paper, but that paper will be around the same scale in size and will weight as much as the object. The transformation is immediate and once turned paper, it will quickly start folding itself, and depending on the size of the paper the paper the folding can take from a single second to a full minute. Once folded, the small piece of folded paper is thin, weighs about as much as a piece of paper of such size would and has the thing trapped inside it in a state where time doesn't pass (i.e. put in a clock, take it out an hour later and it's one hour behind, or a hot drink will remain hot). Objects can be released from this state in two ways: 1) Jean can with thought alone release them. 2) You just unfold it. Once either one of these is done, the object trapped in the paper turns back to normal just like that in a split second. Simple, right? Things of note: - The paper which objects are turned into is water resistant, but burns about as well as any other paper. - Any damage the paper might take will cause damage to the object inside it as well. - The power isn't limited to turning single objects, but to turn multiple things at once into a single paper it requires them to be in contact with each other. - While objects with no mind to them are easy to turn into a piece of paper without any issues, animals, and people are a different matter. Unless they in their mind allow Jean to turn them into paper or are unconscious they can't be affected by the power. - Being trapped inside paper when folded is like blacking out; you don't register any time having passed between the moment you were flattened and folded and when you were released. - The paper at first weighs as much as the object trapped inside it, but once it has been folded it weighs practically nothing and will remain like even if you start unfolding it. - When turned into paper and the paper starts folding itself, the folding can be easily stopped by a third party as the folding, despite being incredibly fast, doesn't have much force behind it. Pin 'em Down [Mastered]: Jean is capable of creating light blue pins of energy of varying lengths and girths, which he can then pin onto anything be it solid, gas or liquid. These pins can pierce through anything as well, though they do not cause any damage, instead just passing through before it is pinned down onto something. Once Jean makes the decision the pin will stick to its current position and remain there as if it were solid until Jean erases it or it is pulled out. Even if the pin is piercing through, let's say a hand when it is "pinned down" it wouldn't cause any damage to the hand but would be solid now and prevent some usage of that particular hand. The pins disappear, dissipating as light blue sparkles when Jean himself wills it or they are pulled out. Things of note: - While Jean can create in a split second a pin 20 cm in length and 5 cm in width, any pins bigger than that will take more time, with every second passed in creation adding a maximum of 5 cm in length and 2 cm in width. The largest he can create is 2 meters long and 50 cm wide, which takes about 90 seconds for him to make. - The pins have weight to them and are comparable to metal in that aspect in both their pre-pinned and pinned state, though in the pre-pinned state only Jean is affected by this. - Jean is capable of having thirty pins exist at the same time and after that, he can't create anymore before earlier ones are erased. - The pins aren't affected by outside forces and are only moved if they are pulled (i.e. if pinned to water the current wouldn't move the pin from its position). From Hoop To Loop [Advanced]: With the fingers of his right hand (even when wearing a glove) Jean can leave a trace of any color he wants onto any solid surface and when he draws two circles of the same color they connect to each other and form a portal through which anyone or anything can pass through. These portals can vary in size the only requirement being that it is drawn upon a flat surface and the two circles aren't too far away from each other, the max distance being 4 kilometers. Things of note: - Once the portals are connected to each other they will remain open for 24 hours or until Jean erases one of them when touching the trace in which the circles were drawn with, after which the other circle disappears as well. - Jean can only have up 10 different portal pairs up at the same time, after which portals after that don't activate before one of the earlier pairs gets erased. - if Jean draws a circle, then uses 'Flatten & Fold 'em' and draws a circle of the same color afterward, the circles won't connect with each before the first one is released. If 'F&F' is used on a circle that is already connected to another one the connection is broken and the circle that's left normal disappears. - If something is passing through a portal, it cannot be closed. This isn't the case however when the time limit has passed, and then the portal will close itself forcefully even if something is passing through. If something is between when the portal closes it is severed, but not damaged. The cutting point will have a rainbow glow to it instead and the two separated pieces can be reattached simply by connecting them. - The trace will remain as long as Jean keeps contact with it, but once he lifts his hand off of it and unless it forms a circular shape it'll disappear. Notable Skills Marksmanship [Advanced]: As Jean's powers as a gifted aren't exactly capable of causing direct damage, he has had to resort using weapons on the side to be more than just support and through years of practice he has become quite skilled with modern weaponry of different varieties. Close Quarters Combat [Intermediate]: Though not a skillset he gets to use that often, as his job is to keep his distance in combat, but still something that was learned by Jean just as an insurance for some specific scenarios. He can't beat masters or the like, but he can take down unskilled fighters with relative ease, as long as they aren't too physically superior. But as many people tend to be that, as Jean's physical prowess is only that of a very fit man, the man's combat style is more about dodging blows and using his abilities for surprise attacks and to restrain. Dexterity [Advanced]: There's no denying the fact that Jean is a skilled person when it comes to his own body, being nimble, swift and capable of feats of dexterity plenty wouldn't be. He has the balancing skills to get footing even on more unbalanced and small surfaces, the swiftness to disarm a normal person with ease and most importantly: perform all of those impressive sleight of hand tricks like it's nothing! Strategy [Advanced: Arguably Jean's most valuable asset is his mind, as through years of experience he has grown into an expert hunter and a combatant, capable of coming up within a short time span multiple strategies and figure out the most efficient of ways to tackle the enemy. backstory - Jean's earliest memories are of him in The Red Bell Orphanage, and at no point has he wanted to really find out about his background. The caretakers and other kids at the orphanage were his family, after all. - At first was one of the more quiet kids, usually reading whatever books he could get his hands on, but after one of the caretakers showed off some card tricks Jean fell in love with sleight of hand and magic tricks. He immediately started practicing and learning any trick he could find, and whenever he learned one he went around showing off that one trick to everyone around the orphanage. In addition to his passion with sleight of hand, the boy found that out he enjoyed entertaining others and slowly began putting on more of a show. - Around the age of seven, Jean's abilities as a Gifted started showing up and he started learning to use them, more for the sake of his tricks than anything else. - At the age of 11 Jean, as he was still at the orphanage, he started to ponder about his future. He knew that staying too long wouldn't be beneficial for him nor to the orphanage itself. Him getting adopted would mean one less child to support, after all. He pondered quite a while, and at some point, he came to a conclusion: he wanted to become a hunter for TRS. Not only was it incredibly profitable, though risky, it would also be for something he could approve of; to protect lives and Lorsette. A lot of the kids at the orphanage had lost their parents to Terrors, so it was just an extra motivation for Jean. - He couldn't, however, get in the TRS through the orphanage, so Jean's only chance was getting an adoptive parent who'd get him in or to wait till he was an adult. It was quite troubling for Jean as he had no real idea how he could achieve the first (and only real) option, but the answer came in the form of a senior TRS Hunter looking to adopt a child. Seeing his chance, the boy did his all to convince the man to adopt him and thankfully he succeeded. - As soon as he became the adopted son of Christopher LaChance, Jean LaChance, the boy made a request to allow Jean to become a hunter. The man just laughed and gave a smile, approving the request immediately. Before his father would let him become an apprentice, Christopher told Jean that he had to train first. - The training lasted two years, which felt more like torture than anything, but it did get Jean into the sort of shape and give him skills that would let him survive being a hunter. It also resulted in a mixture of fear and respect for his adoptive father. - At the age of 14, Jean becomes an apprentice hunter on Unit 3 and finished his training in two months, thanks to his previous training from his adoptive father. The training was like a pleasant spring breeze compared to the two years before, he tells when asked of his experiences. - After that Jean kept on working and proved to be an efficient hunter, and at the age of 18 was granted the position of an elite hunter, after having performed multiple exceptional feats related to saving other hunters during missions in addition to having received the nickname of "The Magician" in the TRS, because of his abilities, behavior and attire. - At the age of 22, Jean lost an arm when saving a fellow hunter, but was soon back in the game as he was provided with a prosthetic arm. - Now at the age of 32, Jean keeps on working as an Elite Hunter, has become an exceptional asset for TRS and is treated as a vital support for important missions, thanks to his abilities and priority on survival. He's as well a well-received instructor for apprentices and is often the first option for those with more supportive abilities. misc While the masks he wears have different markings, they all are the same mask with the same functions: 1) The lower part can be removed, allowing the wearer to remain masked even when drinking or eating. 2) Your voice is by no means muffled by the mask. 3) You'll look mysterious and cool. Because of his quick thinking, strategic mind, calm-headedness, teamwork skills as well highest survival rate of all hunters Jean was at one point offered a position as a sergeant and was believed to be capable of becoming a lieutenant as well. He, however, turned down the promotion and had proposed another hunter for the promotion he believed to be better for the job. He had many reasons for this, but Jean believed that he could do the most in the field so that he could always be on the field to ensure the safety of the other hunters. Him taking the promotion would mean that he could take fewer field missions. His adoptive father is still alive and kicking, and though a retired hunter these days, he is quite the lively old man and Jean makes sure to visit him. Usually, the visit holds cooking and eating together, playing some chess and just chatting about things. Nothing amazing, but the time spent is pleasant for sure. Jean to this day visits The Red Bell Orphanage to come say hi to the head of the orphanage and to play with the kids. He's well-liked by them as he's always willing to entertain them with little magic shows or whatever fun ideas come to his head. He's actually rather deeply involved with the orphanage for someone that's, in theory, an outsider. Jean is always carrying quite a lot of things with him that have been folded just to be prepared for anything, ranging from more mundane things like card decks, drinks, and food to a car when going around out of work, while at work he carries around folded guns, explosives, portals ready for use, and the like. He also has a couple of special weapons in his arsenal, with guns that are fired with the push of a remote instead of a trigger or special bullets that carry folded items of all sorts, with the idea being to utilize Jean's abilities to their fullest. | roleplayer info ☆ NAME Some Guy ☆ RP EXPERIENCE Three years ☆ TIMEZONE EEST ☆ GENDER Male ☆ AGE Twenty ☆ OTHER CHARACTERS n/a ☆ FACE CLAIM BOKU NO HERO ACADEMIA, sako atsuhiro ---------------------- THIS CHARACTER BELONGS TO SOME GUY.
