Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. [attr="class","ltrhead-text"] After years of serving in the familiar bar, Ross was unbothered by the atmosphere. He adjusted to the realm around him, experiencing thoroughly it and working endlessly to preserve his position and safety. Time spent in the RCMP taught Ross to protect himself, assuring he would not fall easily to the whims of a reckless drunkard. Additionally, the security guard at the door, while disinterested, would provide support should it be required. The comfort allowed for smoothness in hands despite the less promising location of the establishment.
[break][break]
Nonetheless, potential risks existed in the questionable realm of serving alcohol and allowing people to grow intoxicated. Thus a watchful eye in the midst of gathering information was a crucial piece to his survival and gathering intel. However, his limited information on the engaging patron meant he was required to dig to discover if she could provide insight. These were natural formalities given his hidden occupation. Information was crucial for his boyfriend, Aloysius, to accomplish his duties in eliminating the vile monsters from the world.

He nodded in response to the woman’s thanks. A smile remained on the young woman’s lips as he gazed at the dark-haired woman. As a respectable bartender, he listened to her menial woes about hours and work. It was something Ross frequently heard because of his position.
[break][break]
"Ah, what kind of job you work? Something in the night scene or?" The light-haired man asked innocently.
[break][break]
The question could unveil possibilities, yet, remained innocent enough to avoid chastising for nosiness. Furthermore, assisting the circumstance was her bringing up the occupation with her comments, making it a simple connection in conversation. As they interacted, Ross wore the classic customer-service smile, pleasant, but unwavering. There were hints of genuine nature in his grin, but evidently, a portion was from politeness.

[attr="class","ltrhead-text"] Observant eyes watched the dark-haired woman, Ross brandishing the classic customer service grin across his lips. Fortunately, the lack of belligerent customers assisted in the steady maintenance of the smile. There was a familiarity in the stranger’s appearance, suggesting she attended the bar before during one of his shifts but was not a regular. Thus, the woman’s name alluded to him, likely unspoken and kept hidden from lack of interaction. However, Ross quelled any desires to request the woman’s name.
[break][break]
Unfortunately, the individual at the door who checked IDs and acted as half-hearted security already admitted the young woman. Therefore, her ID was assured and checked, meaning Ross could not request a driver’s license or ID from the young woman himself. He shoved away any concerns about the dark-haired woman's identity for the time being. An individual sitting at the bar after the busier hours manifested an opportunity for conversation. Quietly, the bartender listened, noting the woman's change in order from a non-alcoholic beverage to an alcoholic one.
[break][break]
After hearing her order, Ross provided her with a nod and began grabbing the class and components. A Black Russian was a simple drink, something the light-haired bartender could easily concoct. Only briefly was his back turned to grab what was necessary, before returning to face her as he prepared her drink with smooth hands.
[break][break]
"Eh, it's quieted down. It was busy, but everyone's settling in now. So you came at the perfect time I would say," Ross explained. "So a little bit of both in a way you could say. How about your evening?"
[break][break]
Developing condensation tickled Ross' fingers as he lifted the freshly filled beverage. He placed it on the bar counter, presenting it to the waiting customer. A little banter was probable, Ross working to open the doors to conversation to continue the happenings.

[attr="class","ltrhead-text"] Around him bustled customers, warming themselves with the alcoholic beverages he turned out on the regular. Despite the arrival of a snowy cold front and the chill of wet winter air, people managed to navigate to the outskirts bar for cheap liquor. The young, light-haired man behind the counter wondered if they would wander their way to the bar even during a nasty freezing rain. While the rundown bar was nothing special, the bartender kept himself dressed nicely. A semi-formal style was accomplished, a pleasant, white dress shirt with a pair of black dress pants and slacks.
[break][break]
The scents of alcohol surrounded the young man as he stacked away the freshly cleaned cups into the cupboard. The second bartender worked towards cleaning whatever cups that arrived back, leaving him somewhat alone. His coworker was merely in the back where the sink and additional supplies were stationed, a simple call away if things picked up after a quick rush. However, Ross was doubtful the bar would gain any additional clients. Their regulars arrived for the most part, alongside the quiet drunkards and the rowdy partiers.
[break][break]
A couple were people of interest in information investigations on behalf of Aloysius. Unfortunately, Ross wished to avoid suspicion and was forced into a waiting position until opportunities presented themselves to him. An over-interest in the affairs of alleged criminals could easily result in a fight breaking out. Thus, the young devil behaved himself, working over the bar sorting glass cups, shot glasses and bottles as required. Around him, a couple of the more rowdy cackled up storms, fists bumping onto the table.
[break][break]
It was nothing Ross was not adjusted to. Since arriving in Lorsette, he grew adjusted to the landscape of the bartending scene for this location. Though, while his investigations could not be conducted with inquiries and gentle prodding, Ross would listen to the world around him. Occasional, alcohol managed to loosen the lips of the foolish, allowing for Ross to gather preliminary information before confirming it for the actions of his fiance. A majority who entered the rundown bar were hardened criminals, never to change and locked in their ways.
[break][break]
Nowadays, the former law enforcement officer knew there was no possible method to change them. Thus, he worked alongside Aloysius to dispose of the trash in this world. The more amoral individuals who were snuffed out from this world, the further along peace could arrive to balance the scales. A harsh lesson he learned was how people never changed, thus, opinions transformed into these cynical viewpoints on criminals. They merely worried about themselves, never thinking of the other individuals, and accomplishing their selfish objectives.
[break][break]
The creaking sound of the wooden door caught Ross' attention, his eyes flitting towards the new individual to enter the business. As she approached the bar, the light-haired devil greeted her with a smile.
[break][break]
"Hey, what are you thinking today?" He asked, diving right down into business.
[break][break]
His eavesdropping and thoughts could wait until after he served the customer. Furthermore, a lonely patron meant one with the potential to remain at the bar rather than scatter into the corners of the establishment.
Stationed at a shorter height of 5’6”, Ross is considered nothing impressive from the height perspective. Relatively slender in body with lean muscles covering his form, Ross possesses pleasant muscle despite his unimpressive height. He has a flat stomach with the muscle being the most prominent along his limbs. The man’s complexion is fair skinned with undertones of pink colouring beneath his flesh. There is limited scarring on Ross’ body, specifically across his knuckles and a little on his sides. These scars are paler than his regular skin tone, though, they are extremely subtle and difficult to see.
A delicate face is perched on Ross’ neck. With light, high cheekbones that rolled into filled cheeks down to a slender jawline, his face possesses a somewhat feminine appeal. This is emphasized by his small, upturned nose and small, slightly pointed chin, alas, his eyes bring everything together. His eye colour is a light green and bordered with long, fluttering eyelashes along with thin brows. From his head sprouts messy locks of light pink hair. His hair is relatively curly, the pink darkening near the tips in the back. With their medium length locks, his hair reaches near the nape of his neck and has a tendency to enter his eyes. His ears are pierced.
Depending on mood or plans, Ross’ clothing will change accordingly. At his workplace, he wears semi-formal clothing despite the overall mood to make a more appealing atmosphere. He is open to wearing both semi-formal and regular formal wear, but prefers the initial because of its less restrictive nature. During non work hours, Ross prefers the embrace of casual or comfy wear. He is the type that on days where he is going nowhere, will not swap out of his PJ bottoms. Under most circumstances, Ross prefers warm clothes with long sleeves or pants, however, he is not opposed to t-shirts or shorts. He tends to wear jeans more often than anything else. Ross does enjoy his fair share of jewelry, regularly swapping between longer earrings or simple studs. When not working, he tends to wear a three-piece necklace set with a choker, a smaller crystal necklace and a long, circular one with an off centered hole.
Fire Manipulation -- Mastered The ability to control and manipulate flames, allowing the user to increase or lower the heat and spread the flames. Both defensively and offensively helpful, Ross has learned the capabilities of flames and the methods to use them. Oftentimes, Ross will create walls of fire to create a barrier between himself and another person. Frequently, he will create intense heats to ward away the individual causing him problems. Additionally, Ross can create long weaving strings of fire, allowing him to rush them forward to attack others with fire. He can accomplish large-form manipulation, but it requires a lot of focus and energy to accomplish. Gradually, Ross will slowly become tired, his energy lowering over time and limiting his capabilities. As this tiredness comes, Ross’ flames are more susceptible to water. Should Ross be wet, his fire manipulation will become extremely weak.
Smoke Manipulation -- Advanced The ability to control and manipulate smoke, allowing the user to make smoke bombs and thick smogs. In sketchy situations, for the purpose of escape, Ross has learned the art of smoke manipulation. He can manage the creation of smoke bombs, thick and condensed. This ultimately allows him to slip away, Ross being able to move smoke and slither through it. This allows him to thin out the smoke in order to see and move through it. Over time, Ross will tire from the creation of smoke and the movement of. Additionally, smoke can still have negative effects on Ross, such as causing him to cough.
Enhanced Speed -- Advanced The ability to move at a speed above that of a regular individual. Fine-tuning his reflexes, Ross’ enhanced speed allows him to protect himself and others with well-needed haste. Similarly, he is capable of sprinting at high speeds, allowing him to outspeed others and even vehicles. The most common use of Ross’ enhanced speed is self-defense, with the young man weaving around attacks to get closer and accomplish his own. However, in circumstances where retreat is necessary, Ross uses that as an opportunity to escape a bad situation. Overuse of his abilities will result in the light-haired man requiring rest. While his stamina can carry him for a reasonable amount of time, enhanced speed still places stress on his body. Over time soreness will accumulate in his muscles because of the intense nature of enhanced speed.
Hexes -- Mastered The ability to use magic accessed via circles drawn of chalk and/or blood. The usefulness of hexes had revealed itself to Ross on many occasions. He has learned summoning both for offensive and assisted reasons, frequently using small mice and birds to help him into locked rooms. He also uses these mice to bite at the feet of his opponents. In order to recover from wounds, Ross learned the wonders of healing to help himself and others. He can fully restore people, however, he is required to use blood to form these hexes. Disguise hexes are regularly used for sneaking into different locations, however, if he is knocked out the hex will fade. He can teleport to distant places with the use of hexes, the further he goes the more exhausted he will become. Sight hexes are regularly used to find criminals in hopes of figuring out their plans and finding them faster. His sight hex only works if he has a clear image of the person in his mind while making the hex. Over time, using hexes will make him tire over time, furthermore, blemishes in the circle will lead to the ability not working.
Possession -- Intermediate The ability to control another person, allowing the individual to influence their movements. An ability solely used by Ross for the purpose of deterring one’s action. In tense circumstances, Ross uses his possession as a persuasion. There are situations where Ross is required to create hesitation. Unfortunately, due to his lack of training, the ability does not always accomplish its goal. At times, people can easily brush off his persuasion attempts and go through with their actions, potentially placing Ross in danger.

backstory
Trigger Warnings: Mentioning of Crimes
On a cloudy evening marked the meeting of two kindred souls. A pair of individuals transcending the bounds of closeness and entering the domain of romance. The parents of Ross Bergerdorff were magnificent people, raised right and confident in their choices in life. Diana Longborn was an infamous spokeswoman, speaking out for the rights of the lesser appreciated species groups since her youth. She was dashing and capable of captivating an audience with both her alluring body and powerful voice and diction. This resulted in a natural chemistry between her and a charming, young businessman who supported her words similar to a holy gospel. Perhaps he fed into a growing ego or upheld her arrogance, but his confidence and compliments caught Diana’s attention. Thus, Elijah Bergerdorff managed himself in the field of courtship and eventually won Diana’s affections. The pair eventually wedded, becoming a well-reveried couple and would eventually conceive Ross mere months into the marriage. Birthed into confidence and a family faithful in humanity’s willingness to repair the disconnections of turbulent histories, it inspired a natural hope inside the light-haired child from a young age. Taught the manner people can change and how improvements across humanity could be manifested with benevolence and understanding fueled the insatiable thirst for changing everything for the positive.
Throughout his childhood, Ross was educated privately, homeschooled and raised to become another bent of changing the world. Constantly, his parents supported the notion that alterations to social patterns required the smallest ripples for people to listen. Each ring it entered inevitably grew the seeds of changing with the life-essential water. Nonetheless, the world of public speaking or change through power in business hardly allured Ross. Spurred by the idealization of law enforcement in the media, the young child hastily grew infatuated with the notion of assuring justice was met throughout the world. He wished to inspire faith in the form of protecting others and assisting those who required it most. In those places, he believed he could create a difference and spark the change his parents supported in his youth. At a young age he expressed his desire to join law enforcement and despite the possibilities of occupational changes, his parents supported him. They wished for a child brimming with jubilee, thus, they supported their child at every opportunity. It was quick to increase his determination for entering law enforcement further.
Wishes cultivated by excellent parents, Ross began craving the world of justice and assisting those around him. In his youth, the light-haired man inquired about lessons relating to learning his abilities. Hastily, the arrangements were made, a tutor being discovered and the lessons started. The opportunity to learn the concepts that interested him influenced the young child. He felt loved and cared about alongside grateful for the opportunities given. The abilities training started as small games, minor methods to spark the capabilities. From starting fire on candle wicks to playing with small rings of smoke to create different shapes, Ross was learning greatly. These games were merely the beginning, allowing the child to gain a footing into the world of abilities. Discussions would be made towards the appropriate times to start Ross learning the defense and offensive aspects of his future. His parents decided it would be best to wait until the child turned 14 and fixate on the concept of teaching Ross control and caution. They wished to assure their child would remain on a virtuous path, thus, it meant regulations, teaching and reassurances.
As the teenage years arrived, school gained difficulty and Ross began learning further about education and the career he wished to pursue. The young man indulged in both his lessons, the realm of self-defence and abilities coinciding with the education required for high school. Tutors assured Ross would know everything deemed necessary, his parents’ money fixating on improving his son’s well-being. Through it all, Ross’ grades were magnificent and the amount of effort he placed into his abilities showed. The child worked hard, inspired and spurred by the dreams of his future occupation becoming lively. The amount of people he planned on helping, his golden heart and soul shining significantly as each step brought him closer. Gradually, he was reaching the hanging fruit constantly lingering above his head. The arrival of graduation and arrangements for education in the RCMP force only solidified the potential future being laid before him. Excitement filled his veins as the arranged, family-oriented graduation arrived and he received his highschool diploma. The receiving of his diploma meant the beginning of his career.
The next step required the wealthy child to leave the binds of home he grew familiar with. Alas, the experience was needed for the child who spent many days without the connections of fellow students. Inevitably, the work would become difficult as the daily routines changed throughout the days and Ross would be expected to accomplish. The light-haired man had challenges to complete and a body to forge for the sake of protecting others. He learned plenty from the people running the academy, his education being based upon learning to resolve arguments along with tactics relating to force should it be required. Despite the difficulties, Ross enjoyed the chance to learn alongside his peers. The wishes to reach the end and start protecting others shined within his mind, motivating his steps and carrying him closer to the goal. A Bergerdorff’s duty was assisting the world, and gradually, he would receive the opportunity to make his parents proud. Thus as graduation arrived, a fresh surge of jubilee entered the man’s heart as he prepared for the future.
Upon graduation, Ross hastily entered an RCMP unit a few cities over from Lorsette. Ultimately, it meant leaving everything he knew behind in Lorsette and heading over to the new city. His entrance into the RCMP resulted in a broad grin playing across the man’s lips as he entered the next phase. He began learning the ropes and improving his skills, however, there was always something off in the city. The crime rates were high and few situations were resolved in a timely manner from what Ross understood. He wished to make those differences, thus, the young officer attempted to offer his time to solving those circumstances. Unfortunately, the greenhorned officer would get shoved aside and told to not worry about it. The confusion reflected in Ross’ eyes, however, with wishes to maintain his job, he merely left in silence. He craved the desire to assist those around him and make his parents proud. He remained silent about the piling up cases, his eyes occasionally gazing upon him and bringing a perturbed feeling to his stomach.
Months were spent in the police department as Ross began learning the protocols and gaining the experience he craved. Through his days spent in the law enforcement, the unresolved cases piled up alongside few arrests being made in a crime heavy city. The confusion lingered in Ross’ eyes the longer he attempted to analyze the circumstance and try comprehending the situation. The patrols added to the befuddlement of the RCMP unit’s work in Ross’ mind as his partner would wave things off. His green eyes would notice suspicious activities, his excitement to make a change in the world causing him to inform his partner. The desires to assist others existed, it was evident by the manner he triumphantly declared it. Alas, his hopes were always dashed whenever his partner would wave off everything happening. The man’s feelings were left down upon his partner’s words and there were plenty of incidents where he iched for work, but received nothing.
As the years piled up, Ross began gaining the strength to assert himself in those circumstances. After years of being told no and not to worry about or with the lying open cases that it was not his place. He wished to sever the chains binding him to the came routines and the lack of action being accomplished to assure law and justice would reign. Thus he worked harder, investigating those shady circumstances and poking his nose in situations where he was required to. From there, he discovered it all from repeat offenders returning to jail and others influenced by the circumstances of life. The arrests he began making on these individuals caused wondering about if people would truly change. Alas, it would be the people who harmed others and returned to it that disparaged Ross the most. From hurting their spouses to aggravated assault, the amount of horrific actions would naturally bother Ross. Nonetheless, he carried the work, feeling everything heft as his partners continuously informed him there was no point in making arrests and doing his job unless somebody calls for it. It dragged on Ross, but he carried on with his wishes of making differences upon his chest.
At times, the world around him felt similar to heavy rain dragging down his clothing and mudding the lands he trudged through. There were instances where Ross felt he was attempting to climb a mountain because of the lack of assistance received. He protected people, but received injuries because nobody backed him up until necessary. He investigated situations, but at times was required to push his partner away because of lack of care. Consistently, Ross was in danger attempting to make those meaningful changes in the world, alas, he struggled. Though, everything felt worthwhile as people thanked him and appreciated the hard work he placed into protecting the people of the city. Unfortunately, everything only delved into the depths of darkness as Ross pushed forward. Alas, the point of condemnation appeared at 30 years old when the light-haired man attempted to push for answers to a solvable homicide involving a former RCMP member. He wanted to make a difference and after listening to the endless pleas of families with unsolved cases, he began seeking it out.
The answers arrived naturally as he delved into the information remaining on the case. The clear cut evidence provided in the case file said everything, and the meagre following of a couple leads. He believed he could accomplish what was required, and once the evidence was there, he approached the head of the police department with his information. He showed every ounce of work he gathered with the utmost confidence, only to discover himself shut down by the commissioner. He was informed his information meant nothing, and rather than accept an officer’s excellent work, Ross received a lecture about disobeying orders. The officer was left disheartened by his hours of work being taken for nothing, and furthermore, the abrupt loss of evidence in the aftermath. He began noticing the inner workings, discovering the man responsible for the murders in office, handcuff free and talking with the commissioner. Quietly, Ross had followed and listened, hoping his work may have changed the course of the case. Alas, instead he saw the flash of green as the commissioner accepted a hefty bribe for “keeping everything hidden.”
Corruption made everything pointless. The darkness of the RCMP headquarters Ross was in ran deep into the veins of the city, and there was no assisting the scum who accomplished the crimes. Time and time again, people would repeat their crimes without a shred of remorse for their actions. From homicide, to assault to drug charges, there was an endless rallying list of offences committed by the same faces. Never would they be held accountable and instead would be left to continue their crimes. The light-haired officer felt burnt out watching as time and time again, his efforts would mean nothing in the end without the follow up. He grew pessimistic and cynical towards others, believing thoroughly that the death penalty was right for their crimes would not be committed again and that the justice system was as broken as shattered glass. In the end, Ross could not handle the circumstances of his occupation and resigned from the police force and law enforcement as a whole. He felt dirtied by the conditions of their police force and hopeless to do anything. The young man packed his bags, moved into a small apartment in Lorsette and began working as a bartender.
He heard everything inside the small bar, turning drinks and cleaning tables. The news about Lorsette’s circumstance leaving through unreliable drunken lips. For a long time, he was a man hopeless in regards to justice and people receiving what they deserved... Though as rumours circulated about recent maulings of individuals associated with crime. He became aware of everything through his bar connections, people loosened their lips upon suckling down a little alcohol. Thus as the news reports came, connections were made through media sources alongside confirmation from a portion of his own. A lingering curiosity arrived at Ross as the reports kept coming about a type of canine shifter eating criminals... It was what they deserved for diving back into crime time and time again. Nobody changed nor cleaned up their acts, they instead allowed the blackness to devour them, thus, Ross believed everything to be karma. He fancied the notion of people being brought to the ultimate justice and judged by Thanatos himself upon their end of their final seconds. He wished to praise the person accomplishing justice and provide the information he had to them, and little was he aware the opportunity would arise.
It would be on a slow walk home to his apartment that Ross’ ears would detect the muffled screams and growls. The cold chill of late autumn weather around him, his breath escaping his lips in wispy clouds. Despite the bite of cold, he followed the sounds, his feet carrying him closer until he discovered a wolf with blood dribbling down its chin. His heart tightened with fear as for a second Ross sucked in a breath and pondered. All his wishes to create a better world hefted onto him. Despite the secretive nature required for the brutal killings, there was an opportunity lying in front of him, a chance to make those blackened hearts repent their crimes. He needed to take it. From the bricked wall he would walk out, attempting to gain the wolf’s attention and asking if he was the one. The individual responsible for killing those criminals and expressing wishes of assisting in his mission to remove said criminals. He gave the stranger everything, attaching his history in the RCMP and explaining how he left. He wanted to help, he wanted to change things and his desires were listened to by the strangers' ears. Upon the offer, he watched the man change back and from there, Ross began assisting the vigilante Aloysius Baum.
Over the years, Ross would gather information on behalf of Alo, working extensively to charm suspected criminals and gain information for the vigilante. He would hand everything he gained over to the wolf shifter and discovered a calm in knowing matters would be handled suitably. Finally, the differences were being made in the world that everybody required, and it brought happiness to Ross. It eventually correlated to their discussions, Ross trying harder to get to know the blue-haired man who he worked with extensively. Though, with their connection, the pair began slowly gaining closeness to one another. They managed to forge a friendship from the business relationship. The pair enjoyed one another’s company and the work towards a similar goal only aided in manifesting their connections. He enjoyed being around Alo, discovering a sense of comfort around the other individual. Regularly, Ross would smile and laugh around Aloysius and become invested in their conversations. However, those discussions slowly became more and more meaningful.
In the span of years, the pair eventually started a romantic relationship. The dating phase was an ideal for both, with each valuing their private moments and keeping everything away from the public eye. Gradually, they stepped further into the realms of romance, starting with dates and sweet moments before becoming serious enough for Ross and Alo to move in together. Their relationship only became stronger, the pair exhibiting an enjoyment of romantic teasing and fluster conversations. No matter the circumstance, Ross enjoyed being around Aloysius. The serious conversations and the gentle, softer ones, Ross enjoyed every portion of their relationship. It made the hurt emotions of the past heal over as Ross gained a new sense of energy as he stood alongside Alo. For years they lived together, the pair eventually getting engaged in the months of 2021 with plans to get married in the future.
