carmine andreasen one day, I will escape this bird cage. general info
appearance At a meagre height of 5’6”, Carmine is definitely shorter than most men, alas, he has no qualms about his height. Oftentimes, he uses his shorter height to maintain a more “vulnerable” appearance for his beloved boyfriend, however, never allow Carmine’s height to fool you. Beneath his clothes are a variety of lean muscles, his frame built to display a natural, physical health. A pleasant exercise regiment maintains a strong, albeit, still smaller build for Carmine and while it is nothing supernatural, he is still plenty strong. A well-maintained fair complexion covers his body, however, the nature of his stunning appearance is moreso predicted by his enhanced beauty. Scars and blemishes never touch Carmine’s enchanting skin, each being fended off by his enhanced beauty. Under most circumstances, he sustains a clean complexion without the usage of makeup, thus Carmine relies solely on the power provided by his enhanced beauty. Carmine’s facial features are comprised of sharper angles, from the way his high cheekbones rest on his face and slope down to a pointed chin or the manner his nose leads to an upturned point. Even his almond-shaped eyes assist in manifesting this sharper appearance, these eyes being a pleasant hazel colour. He has a strong chin which assists in creating a slender appearance to Carmine’s features all around. From his head sprouts, soft, semi-long locks of dark purple hair. It reaches just above his shoulders and is rather straight with little curl to it. Under most circumstances, Carmine ties his hair back in a small, but tight ponytail. Despite this, a few strands near the front escape his ponytail and poke out, however, he is not bothered by this. In fact, he embraces the notion of having a few loose strands to manifest the appearance he enjoys most. Clothes are quite the variety for Carmine since he genuinely wears whatever he feels like for the day’s attire. Oftentimes, this includes casual and formal clothes, but Carmine has been known to stray from his norms. For the most part, he enjoys the pleasant comfort of a casual style, but also favours the straight-laced formal attire. As expected, he enjoys semi-formal clothing, mostly consisting of loose-fitting dress shirts with the top one or two buttons undone to reveal a portion of his chest. Pants rotate between black dress pants or simple blue jeans, once again, depending on the style of which Carmine has decided to rock for the day. Rarely, Carmine may wear jewelry, however, he would consider it should his boyfriend gave him any. He usually wears a specially charmed bracelet to avoid randomly having his merman tail spawn. The most unique feature of Carmine’s body brought on by his merfolk genes is the elegant merman tail which appears when exposed to water. This tail is coated in shiny, dark purple scales similar to his hair colour. They glisten in the sunlight and maintain their elegance whenever Carmine swims with the use of his tail. When shifted, his pants disappear until he returns to human form where they will reappear. The only clothing which remains is usually anything above his waistline. personality
abilities Water Manipulation -- Mastered The ability to manipulate and create water, sometimes in different states, allowing the user to accomplish incredible things. When water is in a liquid state, Carmine has his best chances of manipulating the substance to his fullest potential. He can create massive tendrils, drag water from fibres or seperate it from dirt. Water as a liquid can be manipulated at faster speeds and is generally easier for Carmine to work with. Other forms of water are known for being a tad slower and sloppier in control. Steam tends to eventually float away despite his best efforts and ice’s weight makes it difficult to move. Under most circumstances, snow is the easiest different form of water for Carmine to manipulate, and spending years in the cold north adjusted him to accomplish the action. Frequently, he would melt down know to complete the necessary tasks of defending himself or gathering water to survive. Heat is usually the main enemy to Carmine’s water manipulating abilities and similarly to his abilities to create. Evaporated water and steam is more difficult for Carmine to control and the feeling of dehydration makes creation difficult. Creating his own water takes more energy than merely manipulating water from a source. Enhanced Swim Speed -- Advanced The ability to swim faster than an olympic swimmer, allowing the individual meet extreme speeds. As a merman, Carmine is capable of swimming incredibly fast. He enjoys speeding through the watery depths, his tail only making him faster when he swims. For hours, Carmine is capable of swimming at an excellent pace, allowing him to smoothly enjoy the water. Unfortunately, this ability only manifests itself when Carmine is swimming, when on land he is average speed. Only when Carmine is completely immersed in water will his swim speed become enhanced. Consistent use of this ability can cause stiffness in Carmine’s muscles, thus he must be cautious. Hymns -- Intermediate A type of music-based magic that allows the user to accomplish things such as healing, protecting, strength and even a siren song. Oftentimes, Carmine is decently capable with hymns, however, the problem arrives with the connection between his song and the needed magic. He simply struggles with discovering songs that heavily connect with the required magic. As a result, Carmine’s capability is limited with hymns, but there is still strength to his magic whenever he does find a song with a good connection. The longer he sings these magical songs, the more exhausted Carmine will grow. Healing and protection hymns tends to tire him out the most. Protection hymns do depend on what is attacking the barrier he created. Naturals: Enhanced Beauty, Temperature Resilience, Underwater Breathing, Aquatic Zoopathy backstory TRIGGER WARNING: Violence, gore Red splattered on a white canvas, breath bated, held as he pretended everything would be alright, but nothing would be the same. At a young age, two parents lost their lives in a savage murder accomplished by the Assembly of Phantoms. Traitors were given these punishments, each gruesome detail being leaked to law enforcement and the Terror Response Syndicate. Thus, from an early age the children of those individuals knew blood; Carmine, the younger twin, could even recall the splatters across the snow as a beast devoured his parents. He exited the house to play outside while his parents worked in the yard, only to be told to run. The young boy was digging holes in the snow mounds around their house, thus he quickly squeezed inside. Slowly, he dug deeper into mound, settling inside while screams echoed through the air. Immediately, Carmine hugged himself tightly, attempting to remain calm as he listened to the horror show. Abruptly, everything went silent, the young boy peeking out to notice a terror ripping apart his parents. A scream was bitten back after viewing the gory scene, the young boy retreating into the small hole. The child’s heart thumped hard against his sternum as he brought his knees to his chest. Fear staved off tears as Carmine covered his mouth, the cold snow from his mitten touching his mouth. Shivers coursed through the young boy’s body, however, he forbade himself from speaking or whimpering. Tears welled in Carmine’s eyes, the young boy pressing one of his mittens against his eyes before covering his whole face. The minutes were unbearable, Carmine shaking as he heard the perpetrators entered the house, the door being swung open. They thought he was inside with his sister, but despite those thoughts, Carmine stayed put because of his intense fear. He prayed Hiroko would survive the incident, prayed she hid and those villainous people would never find her. Frightful minutes passed at an agonizingly slow pace, Carmine’s chest beating hard inside his chest. Everything was a nightmare in those moments, and even as he heard retreating steps, Carmine refused to move. The temperature resistance of merfolk allowed him to comfortably remain inside the hole in the snow. The Terror Response Syndicate had arrived to rescue him and his siblings, first finding Hiroko while he remained stationary in the small hole. Time moved slowly, Carmine refusing to move because of his fears. Hunters called for the young child, but Carmine refused to move, scared that people were pretending to be apart of the TRS. Then, he heard the voice of his twin sister, and hesitantly considered his options. Hiroko called for him, and slowly, Carmine peeked out of his hole in the snow. The bodies of his parents were bagged, the red blood splattered across the snow still proof of the abhorrent tragedy. People in TRS uniforms were in the area, which meant Carmine was finally safe. Hastily, the boy escaped the tiny hole, sprinting to where his sister was to hug her tightly. Within seconds, Carmine was bawling, the fear and sorrowful emotions hitting the child hard. Their parents were gone… The parents of Carmine and Hiroko were formerly affiliated with the Assembly of Phantoms. During their time within the group, their mother became pregnant with twins and later gave birth. Some time after their children were born, the pair made the courageous decision to betray the Assembly of Phantoms. They wanted to protect their children, not swear their lives to Zeredah as pawns in her war against the Terror Response Syndicate. Never was Carmine and his sister provided knowledge of their parents’ previous affiliation. Beneath their parental rule, the twins were supposed to grow and learn about morals to deter them from joining the Assembly of Phantoms, however, this single moment proved their parents would no longer be around to watch them grow. Not long after the incident, Carmine and Hiroko would be placed into foster care, the siblings refusing to separate. They were provided special care to handle the traumatizing situation of nearly being abducted or killed by the Assembly of Phantoms. Their story eventually reached the ears of the Andreasen family who had always desired children, alas, the wife was infertile. Upon hearing the horrible, waterdown details from a news report, the pair knew these were the children they wished to adopt. A news story transformed into their parental instincts kicking in, and later a sense of love for the unfortunate children caught in a messy, frightful situation. Mere months had passed before they were introduced and adopted by the benevolent couple. Hastily, the children’s surnames were changed to Andreasen, both in respect of their adopted family, but also for their safety. The TRS believed the Assembly of Phantoms could still be searching for the children. As items were packed and Carmine alongside his sister were moved into the Andreasen household, everything felt fast. The young boy was still gripping with the horrific memories of his parents being murdered and was still frightened by the reality of possibly being killed should he have been found. Fortunately, the family Carmine and Hiroko were accepted into was astonishing and pleasant. Whenever Carmine had nightmares or felt frightened, his adopted parents were there, helping the young boy feel better. Gradually, Carmine felt at home in the Andreasen household, the fast-paced movements being handled marvellously. Eventually, the young child’s mental state began improving because of his adoptive parents. Once he started attending school, Carmine became a cheerful and sociable child despite his early years of torment. The young child no longer allowed the ghostly hands of his past to grip him and instead became a student known for his cheerfulness and talkative nature. He was a good kid, albeit, a little mischievous. His grades were average, nothing which his parents would complain about, thus Carmine happily enjoyed school. He made many friends and even requested his parents to train him in his abilities, which they agreed. While his adoptive parents were a different species, they still assisted in training the youth. As he entered high school, Carmine began showing an interest in dating men opposed to women. Exploration was slow, nobody really having a long-term relationship with the beautiful merman. However, as the years kept dialing up, Carmine’s hazel eyes eventually locked on a handsome blond man. His twin sister had noticed his lovestruck stares in the cafeteria, and after being confronted, Carmine gained the courage to approach the stunning man. The conversation began slowly, the young teen working on breaking the ice to become more acquainted with his crush. His crush’s name was Uriah, however, Carmine oftentimes called him Riah for short. Quickly, Carmine fell for the attractive blond, and as time proceeded, he began flirting with the individual, yet, he kept playing hard to get. At some points, Carmine thought the handsome boy was not interested in men, however, he was eventually proven wrong and the pair began dating. He adored Uriah, thus, Carmine found himself happy with the relationship. Around when graduation was approaching, Carmine made the decision to become a bodyguard, which was inspired from his past. The young man desired to protect innocent people, thus he was quick to find work as a bodyguard. The merman was pleased with his life and enjoyed his time spent with Uriah and working to assist those who required protection. He worked hard, enjoying romance, friendships and general quality of life. However, Carmine’s occupation was eventually going to earn him some trouble. When Carmine was 23, he defended someone against some members of the Assembly, resulting in them knowing the children of those traitors were still alive. Immediately, the Assembly of Phantoms wished to capture Carmine as a special type of revenge. Their parents left to avoid their children joining the Assembly, this they fancied the notion of forcing them to join. As Carmine used his sword and water manipulation to fend off the attacker, blood splattered on the sword. They fought hard against one another, both gaining their share of wounds. Cuts, bruises and nasty wounds were given to one another in the vicious battle. Fortunately, Carmine managed to cut through one of the Assembly members, however, the other retreated. Somebody needed to relay the information about the child being alive, a child they perhaps thought perished that evening. Nobody wished to fail Zeredah, thus people lying was merely an expected consequence for having high expectations. Although, there was something which would happen without a doubt. Blood on the snow, another sign of a change to come. Days after the attack, Carmine discovered people directly following and attacking him. Something changed, the young man learning the amount of danger to him and those around him were in. The fear sinking in as he confided in his boyfriend Uriah and found comfort beside the man he adored. Everything Uriah did for him was appreciated, particularly when his boyfriend agreed to travel with him so Carmine could escape the danger. In his eyes, Uriah was a magnificent boyfriend, someone genuinely wishing to help the situation and assure his safety. Around Uriah, Carmine found he could be vulnerable and confess his concerns and fears, which assisted in the man’s mental state. From that point, Carmine and Uriah travelled throughout the land in a desperate attempt to avoid the people tracking down Carmine. Despite the dire circumstances, Carmine found himself happy to be travelling, although part of him wondered if it was because he could be with Uriah. Years were spent travelling, Carmine thrilled with the adventurous nature of their journey. Throughout their travels, he worked odd jobs to keep them afloat, however, even with the occasional money issues, he found himself overzealous. Birthdays, anniversaries and holidays were still celebrated throughout their travels and no matter where they went, Carmine would discover reasons to be cheerful. Frequently, he texted his family, always soothing their worries and insisting him and Uriah were doing fine, even when they had some struggles. Alas, the attacks still occurred as the Assembly relentlessly tried to track down Carmine in hopes of capturing him, however, the pair remained elusive when possible. Despite the constant paranoia of the Assembly catching up to them, Carmine did his best to remain optimistic about the situation. Although, troubles always arrived to paradise. Ten years of escaping the frightening clutches of the Assembly of Phantoms and getting by on wits alone. At times they settled down, only to be discovered again they were followed. The Assembly was simply an expected threat, but they learned to cope with the worrisome thought. After another lengthy moving process, Carmine found himself desiring a moment to breeze and clear his thoughts. He allowed Uriah to relax before venturing out of the house alone to explore their new surroundings. Cold, winter air embraced him as he tramped through the snow, recklessly wandering alone, but they were safe for now, right? The belief was thoroughly invested in since the Assembly of Phantoms usually took days to track them down. So, he kept walking… Each step carried him further from their temporary home, each step carried him further from a man who would undoubtedly fight beside him at a moments notice, each step carried him closer to them. They ambushed him suddenly, hidden in the bushes and brandishing their varying weapons and abilities. Instinctively, Carmine drew his blade, a thin, sabre prepared for battle should the need arise. There were many enemies, an intimidating circumstance and to make matters worse, they blocked him from where his boyfriend would be. Retreating home for another dynamic escape would not be an easy task on this fateful evening. Immediately, Carmine charged his attackers, praying he could narrowly manage to break their line and sprint back to their home. The entire situation was risky, thus, he saw no harm in gambling his safety for the narrow hope he would survive the altercation. Unfortunately, the Assembly soldiers were quick to stop them, their vicious attacks cutting into his flesh. Desperate sword slashes, prayers he could hold out until his boyfriend sensed his pain and arrived to his aid, but falling to the enemy was inevitable. Blood dribbled from those nasty cuts as he fought, similar to a cornered animal desperate to survive. Alas, the soldiers were merely toying with him, plenty aware they were bound to capture Carmine. On that day, their opportunity was presented, and they hastily prepared and seize the chance. Exhaustion eventually arrived, Carmine’s wounds conquering as he fell, consciousness fading in and out as he fixated on his blood. His blood, splattered across the snow filled land. Whenever something bad happened, red droplets sprinkled onto the white canvas. On a cold December evening, Carmine never returned to the location he was staying with his boyfriend. Injured, battered and unconscious, the Assembly of Phantoms captured him and threw him into a cage. Laying on a stiff, jail cell cott, Carmine awoke, alone, but healed from the previous fight. The man’s eyes locked with the cell’s bars, and without hesitation, he went through the motions to manifest water and cut through them, alas, nothing happened. Around his wrist was the newest piece of jewelry, a cursed collar designed to cease the functioning of powers. Breaking off the metallic device was impossible, especially since he would receive a nasty electrical shock should he even attempt it. Meanwhile, the Assembly was pleased with their catch, however, they needed to assure their little minion would obey orders. Thus, Carmine found himself treated like a dog. Despite everything happening around him, Carmine tried to maintain optimism; people were looking for him, right? Then hope arrived in the form of a short-haired woman with a similar hair colour to him. His twin sister, Hiroko, a TRS scout and officially a person given the job to spy on the Assembly of Phantoms. Hopeful and clinging to the possibility of escape, Carmine would listen to any advice his sister provided to survive being a prisoner. Eventually, the TRS were being fed his whereabouts, but before they could infiltrate and retrieve Carmine Andreasen, the Assembly of Phantoms moved him. These travels were accompanied in lessons on how to speak the native language. Should they wish to break Carmine down and transform him into a ruthless soldier, they needed him to blend in. Alas, they learned quickly that their captive had spirit and refused to do the tasks they assigned him. He got shocked for it plenty, but Carmine never regretted refusing to carry out their missions. After a year of captivity, Carmine has been moved to Aria Village in Newfoundland, Canada. He is mostly unaware of his location, merely going off the pieces of information he has received. Currently, he is unaware of his boyfriend’s condition, but worries about him every day and hopes to return to him once he escapes. misc - Likes: Pocky, swimming, summer, sweets, fun activities, competition, training, games, Hiroko, his soulmate, oranges, snuggling, cuddles, warm blankets, protecting others, running, exercise, closeness, socializing, parties, teasing, dancing, singing, heart lockets - Dislikes: Winter, prison cells, being alone, darkness, chocolate cereals, bullies, sickness, being locked inside, snow, the Assembly, terrors, cramped spaces, spicy foods, scary movies, nightmares - Fears: Winter, snow, breaking - Snow sometimes makes Carmine nervous because of how often he has seen blood upon the stretch of white.
