appearance As a surprisingly short man, Russel reaches a meagre height of 5’7” which makes him shorter than most males, but taller than most females. His limbs are for the most part, well-porportioned with his legs being slightly longer than expected, however, this is hardly noticeable. He is light-weight, his body leaning on the thin side with a surprising lack of muscle. Strong is something not associated with Russel at all, although, he does not mind this. A complexion of light brown causes most people to find Russel’s somewhat unique skin interesting and different compared to the strongly Caucasian-based country. There are a few lighter-coloured scars on his body, some on his chest and others on his upper arms from when he lived with his abusive ex-boyfriend. Otherwise, there is nothing particularly special about Russel which catches other people’s attention. Sharpened angles fill Russel’s face, higher cheekbones leading sharply down to a rounded chin. As a result, he has a face-shape similar to an almond because of his sharper features. His nose is proportionate to his face, ending in a sharp, upturned point. Near-matching his complexion, Russel’s hair is a russet brown, making it darker than his skin. Straight hair leaves his head, cut short and kept tidy because of his preference to maintain a clean appearance. Usually, his hair is well-brushed and is only messy if there is an emergency situation or extremely exhausted. There is a surprising softness to his hair, something unexpected of somebody who fixates more on tidiness opposed to keeping his thick, straight hair soft. Eyes of a similar russet shade hide behind a pair of glasses. The arms are black with frames holding the bottom of his thick lenses. The bottom of these frames was shaped similar to a V with straight lines stretching above these V’s. Clothing is always different for Russel since he switches between formal and casual quite frequently depending on his mood. He adores wearing dress shirts, finding them pleasantly light and cool. The thinner fabric makes him comfortable, although, as expected he usually wears these formal clothes to work since he primarily works in an office. Despite this, Russel always keeps a pair of field clothes, as expected, alongside a change of casual. There have been times where Russel has changed clothes before leaving works, however, this is usually on excruciatingly warm days. Casual clothes are worn when he is walking around the city, the comfier pieces being better for walking around for a few hours. He prefers wearing t-shirts and shorts during the summer and adores turtleneck sweaters in the winter. abilities Seance -- Advanced The ability to talk to those who passed through into Purgatory. These communications are done through summoning and these souls can sometimes dangerously interact should the user not be careful. When working in an investigation unit, Russel finds using seances useful for gaining information. Depending on the individual he desires to summon, the seance can be easier or more difficult. The more strong-willed may resist his summoning, resulting in a strenuous mental struggle to force them into their world for the time being. Once summoned, Russel usually only has a maximum of an hour to speak with them before having to send them back. Keeping them summoned in Russel’s situation exhausts him, especially if they are more strong-willed, the more energy will be quickly eaten up. These summon souls can harm Russel, thus he must assure they remain calm or else he could get hurt. Psychometry -- Mastered The ability to view the past of objects and people via physical contact with the individual. Essentially, Russel can skim through the memories of objects and even people, allowing him to view the entire history of the object. Through his seer abilities, he can fast-forward certain sections, but nonetheless, will be forced to skim through until discovering a section he desires to view. His ability is strongest with objects, mostly because they do not have a consciousness to fight his psychometry. Specially protected objects or people via charms will not allow Russel to view the history remotely. Meanwhile, cursed objects will harm him, causing a great deal of pain the longer he attempts to view the history. If he foolishly keeps going, he has been known to get a nose bleed and pass out. People are where some difficulty comes in since unwilling participants are harder to view the history of. If Russel is incapable of enforcing his will-power over the other person’s strong-willed nature, he is unable to view the individual’s history. When showing these histories, he can show other people by grabbing their hand while focusing his energy on where the psychometry reads. He can only show one other person. Telepathy -- Intermediate The ability to communicate through thoughts, allowing the user to read and send messages without using electronics or verbal communications. If the user works hard on the ability, it could potentially be used for mind reading. Never having been capable with telepathy, Russel being fortunate to even broadcast messages when needed. Due to his lack of ability, he is unable to read the minds of unwilling participants, making it impossible for him to pry into their secrets. This leaves him limited to communication and nothing really beyond that, however, he can scream inside other people’s minds to stun them. When embarrassed, Russel’s telepathy is prone to suddenly sparking and broadcasting his thoughts without his knowledge. Telekinesis -- Mastered The ability to move objects or people with one’s mind, allowing the user to even make them float if they wish. Telekinesis is an extremely useful power from Russel’s experiences. He sharpened his reaction time with the ability for those moments when he nearly spills coffee. Years of practiced allowed Russel to fluently move objects or push aside people. Depending on weight, Russel can push things much larger than him, however, he cannot always do this. Heavier objects place mental strain on him. Similarly, adding additional speed to thrown objects can also cause mental strain, carrying items more slowly usually allowing him to smoothly carry them. This can give him horrible migraines if done too often, even reaching lengths of possibly giving Russel a nose bleed and making him pass out. Thus while he is powerful with this ability, he must remain cautious else he risks being vulnerable. Future Sight -- Beginner The ability to view future events, allowing the user to become privy to future knowledge which can aid them later on. As expected of most seers, Russel is capable of seeing the future, however, he has never been particularly good at it. Future sight in his case is a mere glimpse of a few seconds, usually in close vicinity around him. These few second glimpses do not yield much information since he may hear a few words or merely see a few footsteps. During these tiny visions, Russel is unable to move for those few seconds where he is viewing the future. These glimpses perhaps only being a few minutes before the event itself, or sometimes less. For Russel, future sight cannot be activated on a whim and instead these visions will come as they please. She was a magnificent woman with beautiful locks of golden blonde hair. Vanity in her surreal beauty was obvious to most, but she nonetheless received her wishes of stardom on the beginnings of a popular show. In her role, she played hero, filled to the brim with smiles, advice, wisdom and bravery. Both in the fictional and real life she would be given admiration, which was something she adored greatly. Cloaked in those harboured narcissistic thoughts, Marianna grew happy with her career, and eventually met and fell head over heels in love with one of the cameramen. Forest Naulty, a quieter man who enjoyed filmography, but had more humble dreams of hopefully being a father. It was everything the man wanted, although, he would hardly complain about gaining an extremely attractive wife. Thus when the opportunity came, he began dating the infamous Marianna Pallock. After a year of dating, the pair decided to have a child and thus, Russel was conceived. Pregnancy was never a picnic for Marianna as she learned her occupation disappeared as her belly grew larger. The show she once had was hastily ended because of her growing belly from the pregnancy. As time went on, she began hating the child who grew inside her, mostly because of her jobs disappearing. Constantly, Forest insisted having a child would be wonderful, but she would not listen. The self-minded woman never thought about the care of her child, Forest soon be required to make certain his wife would not drink or anything which would hurt their unborn child. When the nine months of pregnancy finally came to the end, Marianna gave birth to a healthy, baby boy they named Russel. The new father gleefully held his child, later offering him to the mother who refused to hold her new child. It was upsetting to Forest, but he held Russel close and planned on raising him. As Marianna worked on getting back in shape, she ignored her child, believing her own requirement for her occupation was more important. His father was furious, however, he merely quit his job and decided to be a stay at home father to assure Russel got the care he needed. A deep connection was made between Russel and his father, the boy’s early memories of his mother hardly existing. He was always curious about the woman, the young boy growing and desiring his mother’s attention. When he entered school, he gained the opportunity to witness the mothers of other children and hear about their stories. As a result, Russel acted like an angel, trying to help his mother to gain her blessing, however, she always gave a disinterested thanks before going about her day. Alas, these thanks motivated the child, thus he kept being helpful. Meanwhile, his father was praying Russel’s good nature would persuade Marianna to come around and become an excellent mother. Thus, Forest supported his hunts for attention from Marianna. Each time she merely walked past her child to head to work with a mere few words to please her boyfriend and child. Unfortunately, Forest felt trapped in the relationship since he required financial support to raise his child alone and he feared to burden his parents. Thus for years, he continued his relationship with Marianna, praying she would come around, but she never did. As a result, Russel was upset about his mother’s absence, but Forest assured the child would develop. The child grew into a sociable kid without any limits to happiness, solely because Forest raised him well. As Russel entered his teen years, Marianna still failed to display any interest in her son and instead focused on herself. Over those years, Forest became a father and a mother to Russel, however, the child still wanted to earn his mother’s favour. When Russel was 15, his mother had a cold during his winter break, thus he decided to help. He would make her food with the assistance of his father. When requested to fetch his ailing mother some water, a broad smile touched the child’s cheeks as he hastily left the bedroom. He fetched his mother’s favourite cup, a special one from her glory days prior to giving birth to him, filled it with water. He hurried to the bedroom to give his mother the requested beverage, however, in his rush he tripped. Water flew into the bedroom, soaking his mother while the glass smashed into the floor and shattered. Immediately, an angered groan escaped his mother’s mouth as she sat up from her bed, soon glaring daggers at her son. Gradually, Russel picked himself up, gasping over the complete accident, but before he could utter a word his mother turned hateful and spiteful. Bitter words escaped her mouth as her narcissistic mindset displayed itself instantly at that moment. Marianna held the audacity to refer to her flesh and blood as a useless piece of trash who nearly ruined her career. Tears became evident, but the derogatory remarks proceeded, prompting Forest to enter the room and listen to the commotion. As Russel hustled to his feet and sprinted out of the room crying, Forest engaged in a verbal argument with Marianna. The pair fought for mere minutes while Russel returned to his room to cry. Sorrow gripped him as he tightly hugged a pillow, rivers of tears falling to cease because of his failure. When the door opened he tensed until feeling the soft hand of his father touching his arm followed by his comforting words. Slowly, he coaxed his son to calm down, later informing him they would be leaving for his grandparents. That day, Russel and Forest packed their belongings and left Marianna’s home to live with the parents on Forest’s side, the ones he wished not to burden. As expected of loving parents, they welcomed their son and grandson in with open arms. Unfortunately, the words stated by Russel’s mother were damaging and the young teen’s sense of self-worth and sociability plummetted. Raising him up proved difficult as Russel struggled to pay attention in class for days. Eventually, his father sat down beside him and they talked. It was gradual, feelings-based and Forest worked hard to give Russel the confidence to work harder. They talked for hours, Russel finding his mood becoming better, however, he still found himself less social after the incident. He feared the notion of others harbouring similar feelings about him, thus he became quiet and insecure about himself. Numerous times he attempted to prove his worth by helping others, but it was solely because he feared the razor-sharp blade of nasty criticism. As Russel grew older, he became interested in crime documentaries and later forensic sciences which resulted in him desiring to become enter forensics and crime scene investigation. Before entering post-secondary, Russel worked for several years to assure his family would not have financial strain should he leave. He entered his post-secondary education at the age of 23 and began working hard to enter the field he desired. Only 3 years into his education did he meet another college student named Florence Ryder. He was undoubtedly attractive, a muscular man with blond hair, striking blue eyes and a charismatic personality. The lovestruck Russel had few relationships in his days, bit Florence impressed him. A mere year after meeting, Russel began dating Florence right after his graduation. Russel was undoubtedly happy dating Florence, their first year together being heaven to the young seer. Once he found a forensics job with the TRS and got into an apartment of his own, Florence moved in with Russel a few months later. From the outside, their relationship appeared remarkable with both parties being happy, after a little over a year of dating, things had secretly turned sour. The pair began bickering constantly when Russel became 29, most of their arguments being petty things Florence brought up. They had their amazing days, but the sour ones were starting to increase. Alas, Russel stayed throughout it because, in those comments, it started all over again. Self-worth was deteriorating, Florence flaunting the notion of Russel being fortunate to even have a boyfriend. The man he dated held a similar attitude to his mother but had the charisma and persuasion to keep Russel from leaving. Perhaps foolishness claimed him, or the constant thought of things getting better. Oh, how wrong he was in those regards. The abuse became more common in the household, Florence willingly slapping Russel if he even returned criticism. Only minutes later would his boyfriend promise it would never happen again, and each time, Russel believed him. Derogatory comments stated by both his mother and his boyfriend coaxed him into the thought of deserving this from time to time. The fighting continued through, intimate moments becoming fewer or painful with how rough Florence would be, even when kissing Russel. The aggressive attitude his boyfriend exhibited was unpleasant, frequently resulting in the seer shoving him off with telekinesis if needed, but it only resulted in more fighting. Despite his dislikes, Russel remained hushed about the abuse in his home. Months after Russel turned 30, the final straw arrived. On a balmy summer day, he returned home earlier than expected after his coworkers noticed his lack of proper sleep. Overtime was used as an excuse to avoid his disastrous relationship. He kicked off his shoes and believed Florence was still working. When he weaved down the hallways and turned to enter their bedroom, Russel discovered his boyfriend cheating on him with a woman. Betrayed by somebody who could exchange the occasional I love you despite hitting him and degrading him. Pain washed over him as anger flooded into Russel’s veins and the screaming starting again. Minutes of fighting transformed into the abused man finally standing his ground as he demanded Florence to leave. Once he managed to kick his ex-boyfriend out, the door was locked and the adrenaline from his anger faded. Tears filled his eyes as he sat against the door and began sobbing. Several times his heart was tortured with the notion of positivity and love reigning, but each time, it was torn out and stomped on. Hours of crying occurred before the landlord heard a report about yelling and came to investigate. He discovered Russel crying, slowly persuading him to calm down before asking what happened. Through choking gasps, Russel explained Florence cheated on him. Once calmed, Russel requested the locks changed and begged the landlord to allow him to place Florence’s items in a box and keep it downstairs. His now ex-boyfriend was a bad memory, an obviously upsetting one, thus the landlord agreed. A few days later, Russel went to have coffee with his father and informed him about what happened with Florence. The pair talked for hours, Forest appalled by the abusive situation his son was in and went lengths to comfort him. Although, Russel was a completely different man after being hurt many times. Self-esteem was murdered after the derogatory comments, finally passing away when Florence cheated on him. He became easily discouraged and surprisingly delicate afterwards. Everything was hidden away beneath a shell of confidence and dedication to his work. Friendliness disappeared within a few days, Russel becoming a cynic who was unable to trust others. People never knew he was scared and delicate after being the victim to a traitor. The changes in his personality were a defence mechanism. Abrasiveness made people avoid him, similar to his moody attitude. A few relationships were tried, but Russel became possessive and paranoid. He feared similar treatment and being cheated on again, thus the relationships crumbled due to lack of trust. Nowadays, Russel tends to focus more on work rather than finding love because he believes he is unworthy of such a thing.
