hao zhao tell me reality is better than a dream. general info
appearance For his ethnicity, Hao is only slightly taller than average at a height of 5’6”, however, this makes him seem rather short compared to a majority of citizens in Lorsette. Furthermore, his body leans more to the lankier side for his short height, however, he is evidently unbothered by the notion. There is little muscle to Hao’s frame, resulting in him appearing more slender, however, his physical strength becomes evident because of his guardian status. From an initial glance, he will always appear to be a smaller man compared to other people. His complexion is best described as being more beige because of his Asian descendants. There are currently no scars on Hao’s body which are noticeable, most being rather minor and not particularly frightening. There is a delicateness to his hands, the long fingers being graceful, especially when Hao is holding a writing utensil or typing on a keyboard. During instances where Hao writes with his pens and such which results in some ink on his hands. Sharpness is evident in Hao’s facial features, especially with his nose and chin. He has higher cheekbones, ultimately making his face rather angular. These lead down to a stiff jawline with a sharp, pointed chin. He has a rather prominent nose which is fairly sharp, most people noticing it initially. Behind a pair of silver, glasses are chestnut-coloured eyes shaped similar to almonds, the lenses of Hao’s glasses making his eyes appear bigger. The glasses have silver frames, these frames holding the bottoms of the lenses, but the tops only have a thin, metal piece holding them in place. The frames are very thin, holding the square lenses with a triangular bottom. Medium-long hair stretches down just past his shoulders, his hair usually is well-tidied. The hair itself is a dark blue colour with slight hints of purple evident in luscious locks of hair. Usually, there are one-two long strands in the front which reach to roughly chin-length. For the most part, Hao’s hair is straight, but it tends to curl near the end. Professional clothing is preferred when Hao is picking what to wear for attire. This nowadays consists of dress shirts, usually of a white colour, but always solid colouring. Occasionally, he will wear a suit coat, colours consisting of black, dark grey or navy colours. Oftentimes, he wears semi-formal to maintain a comfortable sense of style. Pants tend to be simple dress pants of darker colours. During colder days, he prefers dark coloured trench coats to maintain warmth. A majority of people find that Hao’s focus wanders constantly, the man oftentimes dazing off in the distance as he thinks of future projects. In guardian form, Hao has 3 pairs of wings which have a white colour to them. His animal form is a arctic fox, his fur transforming into more silver colour, the thick fur easily keeping him warm. There is a slight blueness to his fur because of his natural hair colour. He had an average sized nose, making it not overly noticeable compared to other features on his face. personality
abilities Guardian Shift -- Intermediate The ability to shift into a canine form with wings. As expected in the Zhao family, Hao is capable of transforming into a fox with 3 pairs of wings. When in this form, Hao is faster than usual, his sleek body capable of moving speedily. It takes time for Hao to transform into his fox form, and during his transformation he is vulnerable to attack. It takes Hao approximately 30 seconds to shift into fox form. The process it slightly painful because of how little he accomplishes the task. If severely injured in this form, his body will revert back into human form. Wing Manifestation -- Mastered The ability to manifest wings from one’s back, allowing the user to fly. Due to his arch guardian blood, Hao can sprout 3 pairs of wings. These pairs of wings are extremely large as expected of his guardian type. Their colour is a pure white, these large wings displaying his Heaven lineage. Due to these being a useful tool for traveling, Hao trained his wing manifestation to excellence. They can manifest very quickly, taking approximately 20 seconds to appear out of his back. He can fly for long distances at an even pace or move fast using his wings. Naturally, his stamina will not last forever, this depending on speed, Hao can fly for hours. Should his wings get injured, Hao is unable to manifest them until they heal. His wings may disappear if injured severely enough. Enhanced Speed -- Intermediate The ability to access speed beyond the normal tier, allowing the user to accomplish incredible achievements. As expected of all guardians, Hao is capable of moving extremely fast. Unfortunately, lack of proper training keeps Hao from access all capabilities with his speed. The ability it merely used to complete chores faster. His enhanced speed is used in small spurts, allowing for him to quickly move from location to location. However, this is limited to around his home which is a smaller area. Using this ability long-term can make Hao exhausted and result in soreness in whichever muscles were used. Enhanced Strength -- Intermediate The ability to access strength beyond the normal tier, allowing the user to accomplish incredible achievements. Mundane reasons for training ability have been Hao’s only motivation to improve his enhanced strength. Housework and jobs which require more muscles have bettered Hao’s strength, jobs regularly getting accomplished before writing. Unfortunate, Hao’s abilities are limited to these mundane tasks. Fighting with his enhanced strength is nearly impossible because of Hao’s inabilities in combat. Power of his strength tends to be a lower tier than a majority of those with enhanced strength, allowing Hao to be overpowered easily. Naturals: Healing Factor, Enhanced Senses backstory Everybody has a beginning, resisting it is futile, especially considering the unconsciousness of our minds upon conception. Unfortunately, nobody can choose where their beginnings will be, but merely how we react to our influences, the people who stimulate emotions on the daily. My beginnings were nothing humble, my family frequently surrounded by silks, golds and other luxurious items. In those days, being born of noble descent was the greatest gift. Health, divine meals and all essentials were granted to those who received the incredible gift, however, these arrived with their own set of downsides. Noble descendants was not mere pampering, several expectations weighing heavily on the shoulders of the children born to these families. Private tutors who marked educational progress, observant parents and constant berating about prim and properness among our peers. However, privilege arrived with challenges to gain validation and acceptance among their family. I will never forget how sought for those desires, how I briefly lost care until discovering a method to receive said desire. Part of me always longed for those fortunes. Hao Zhao was born approximately 3000 years ago in the city of Xi’an to a family of arch guardians and nobles. They were appraised individuals known for making their fortunes controlling merchant routes and transporting luxurious items. Pride and honour was bestowed upon their family from years of service. His father was a former guard later provided the honour of presiding over merchant routes with the assistance of his mother. In the Zhao family, men were expected to learn the ways of fighting for guard purposes while women merely learned self-defence skills. They were expected to marry the opposite gender and have children to allow the line to continue strong. Hao became the eldest child in their family, thus expectations weighed heavily on him and validation itself becoming a rarity. Mere infanthood brought forth requirements for suitable tutors and professionals. Education was extensively sought for, tutors being tested for years. Then once Lady Zhao fell pregnant with their second child, requirements grew stricter. Excellence, prestige and perfection were the traits they sought in possible teachers. The Zhao family heads expected their children to bring honour upon their family. Everything they listed for was honour and pride to befall their family as they conquered merchant routes and grew in wealth. Fortune manifested safety, allowing for their peaceful lives to continue in luxury. Nannies were hired to care for their children, especially after Hao’s younger sister Mikki was born and his mother was pregnant again. Tutors were given time to create a marvellous curriculum for these children. They faced firing should their education be anything, but perfect. Childhood, a time devoted to freedom, exploration and careful development became an endless pursuit for outstanding tutors. Our family’s study transformed into the private teaching chambers my siblings and I grew familiar with. Education was infatuating, bearing those beautiful locks of golden hair and slender features, however, cruel was the curriculum's title. Personal investigations, curiosities and self-learning was thrown from a cliff in favour of restrictions. Our education was stiff, refusing to yield to childhood interests and behaviours. Prim attitudes expected, anything less resulted in punishment from the rulers of our teachings. Tutors would be your initial thought, but in reality our parents received consistent assessments of our education. Expectations from our parents was high without a doubt, but praise was rare. They desired perfection and nothing below that grade. Throughout his sheltered childhood, Hao became increasingly close to his younger sister, Mikki. Friends were limited to noble snobs, thus the young child searched for companionship in his sister. Strict lessons would damper modes, but time spent alongside his little sister was pleasant. Meanwhile, his younger brother was the coddled baby of their family. The pleasantry naturally reserved for the final child born. Despite the closeness in age between his siblings, Hao grew closest to Mikki, his darling sister manifesting happiness in the young guardian’s life. They were best friends, lending a listening ear to one another’s childhood woes or being an inviting playmate. Together, they explored the best they could in their limited environment. Everything about the world was absolutely stunning and different from the garden walls of their lavish home, thus Hao prayed to the almighty Akari they would explore it together. Alas, fate was a mysterious individual, especially considering their different teachings. Their parents expected Mikki to transform into a marvellous wife while himself and his younger brother were taught to be husbands, fighters and worthy businessmen. Subjects were mostly math based, however, those moments where they learned language arts were the greatest. Vocabulary expansion was crucial to his parents, but reading those books inspired Hao. Fantasies manifested in his mind, the words transforming into sentences and eventually being scrawled onto parchment at any possible moment. Writing, a calming escape amidst the constant business of life. Everything began revolving around writing, Hao pleading for those lessons, much to his parents’ distaste. The men of the Zhao family were supposed to be brave soldiers, but quiet writers. Refusal fell into deaf ears, the young boy continuing his pursuit and practicing the art. Ink carving into parchment, black, divinely beautiful in my prideful eyes. Throughout mere childhood, writing was a sanctuary, a relaxation tool until, finally, it transformed into an ambition. Writers existed in numerous forms, but stories enticed, these worlds vividly coloured by words. Broad grins stretched across my face during those evenings after our academic lessons. Supporters were rare, my younger sister Mikki becoming among the few who supported my writing. Validation never crossed my mind, I thought my parents would be expected to provide me acceptance. These were the people meant to warmly embrace you, display endless kindness because of blood relation. Shining faces, supportive and pleasant to be around. Alas, my parents were the colder, strictly profession and merely concerned with their pride. Time passed, Hao growing older and more addicted to the world of words. The relationship between himself and Mikki bettered, while his younger brother appeared keen on proving himself superior. The notion never bothered Hao, the young man constantly concerning himself with the magnificent world of writing. Tutors attempted to fixate him on family business and improving as a soldier, however, those attempts failed. Progress was reported to his parents, the pair diverging onto him similar to angry hawks. Fighting began immediately, Hao’s parents displaying their displeasure with his decisions, especially when the man stated he desired to become a writer. The occupation was alluring to Hao, the young man aware of the difficulties and risks required to enter the field. Undoubtedly, Hao’s parents were infuriated by the notion, screaming loudly. The verbal brawl proceeded for hours, an 18-year-old Hao fighting for the rights to his life. Parents were wise, however, he refused to allow his to control the outcome of his future. Desperately, he attempted to make his parents understand his desires, however, each attempt failed drastically. Eventually, those hurtful words which would endlessly haunt Hao escaped their lips. ”GET OUT OF OUR HOUSE AND NEVER COME BACK! YOU ARE A DISGRACE! I WISH YOU WERE NEVER MY SON!” Those shattering words escaped my father’s mouth while my mother nodded in agreement. I remembered my heart stopped briefly, breath trapped in my lungs. Tears welled, dribbling down my face at their coldness and inability to understand my admiration for writing and desires. Words never escaped my lips when I finally turned away, returning to my chambers. Slowly, I packed, secretly saying my final goodbyes to my family. Those grand doorways with golden paint, wood exquisitely carved for elegance. Hesitantly, I crossed the threshold for the final time, parents and home guards overseeing my miserable departure. Depression suffocated me, unable to accept what occurred. Days passed, money depleting, forging realization my lavish life vanished in a horrible day. Initially, I thought being kicked out would be the worst day of my life, but it transformed into something crucial. Independence arrived slowly as I gradually learned the rules of working hard. I began working a variety of jobs, my superior education being the only proper parting gift my parents provided. Intellect opened a slew of capabilities, calmness entering my mind once I settled into independence. Motivation arrived, my writing transforming into the fixation. My endless desires to traverse the difficult route for the occupation I fancied finally coming to fruition. Oddly, being kicked out of their home became among the best occurrences in Hao’s life. Independence taught him plenty, the young man discovering strength and opening his horizons to commoner life. From there, the tales began whirling as he began to write a variety of different stories. A portion were linked to historic events while others were a small collection of tales gathered in a single book. His popularity was insignificant, however, a force slowly growing as he wrote more. Parents are sometimes unable to notice talent, thus Hao proved he comprehended the world of writing. Alas, they searched for proper heirs to their legacy, undoubtedly believing it was the only method to maintain their noble status. Rumours circulated about his family, Hao’s only sources of information being passerby comments. A single heartbreaking remark left their lips one afternoon where he wandered the streets for muse. Mikki Zhao was summoned for her guardian duties. Everything froze for a moment as Hao soaked in the dreadful news. Concerns about his sister’s health orbited through his mind, her perhaps permanent absence being an upsetting notion. He sulked for days, praying he could discover a method to contact the younger sibling he was most attached to, but nothing came. Discerning her location was impossible, meaning he would never be capable of finding his sister. Peculiar thoughts entered his mind, transforming into determination. His only familial supporter had to be searching for his name, right? Fame, it was something worldspread if somebody accumulated it to immense degrees, and furthermore, his sister could speak their home language. Throughout the evening, Hao began writing, improving his craft and praying the long-shot he desired to take would reconnect him with Mikki. ”Did you hear? Mikki Zhao was summoned for a contract!” Those dreadful words stabbed me through the heart. A guardian’s duties is to protect others through taking contracts, but I worried for my sister’s well-being. Our relationship was strained when my parents kicked me out of the home, but I always prayed to Akari we would reconnect in the future. Homebound I went immediately after listening to the news, sparing a moment to cry and wallow in my loneliness. There were plenty of people around, but something felt empty without my only friend around. She was the sibling I grew closest with, the pleasant individual who followed me throughout our childhood. I spent hours in my melancholic suffering. Unable to fixate on other things as I missed the wonderful sister I spent years growing up beside. Eventually, I stabilized, but remained fragile to words referring to Mikki for days. My only supporter vanished in a single day. Writing transformed into a daily practice, Hao working hard to write more endearing stories or generally whatever he felt musing for. Ideas were scrapped, reforged or thoroughly created as he kept a pen tightly in his hand. Those days resulted in his popularity skyrocketing as Hao worked harder to gain the fame required to find his sister. He never explained his intention, merely stating it a long-standing dream of his. Years of writing development were passing, popularity growing larger with each passing day. People knew his name, complimented him and validated his actions. Although, popularity arrived with an unexpected surprise. A series of knocks at his door and an invitation to join his parents and brother in the Zhao household. Eyes widened in astonishment, Hao inquiring the carrier of the message if this was the correct address for the prestigious invitation. When he provided a nod, Hao provided thanks before returning inside to observe the message. They desired their son to return home. Hesitance engaged with uncertainty as I stared at the lavish invitation and my family’s infamous seal. The circumstances of their decision was unknown. All I knew was centuries passed since Mikki disappeared and longer since my parents contacted me. Thoughts were numbed, however, I was enslaved to noble word after being kicked out by my parents. The following morning, I arrived at my childhood home, invitation in hand and prepared to discuss with my parents. Flashes of those final moments where we viciously fought one another entered my mind. I dreaded visiting my parents, fearing similar consequences for my decisions. In a majestic manner, the doors gradually opened, revealing my parents and younger brother. They invited me into a small room, tea being poured and small confections served. Fancy, the type designed for guests they wished to impress, they desired to impress me. The knowledge of my childhood granted me some insight on their intentions, but I was hesitant to indulge. Throughout our conversation, they emphasized on me being their son. These awkward needs to emphasize brought a strain to the conversation, periods of silence even occurring. Eventually, the visit would close, although, those final words surprised me. “You are welcomed to come home, our son. You proved us wrong, and we wish for forgiveness. You’re an exquisite writer, and we’re proud of you.” Validation from my parents. Acceptance of my craft accompanied by wishes for forgiveness. It was everything I desired, and I hastily granted it. Those were among the best moments in my life. My happiness was secure, alas, I was still searching for Mikki, thus after receiving the thing I searched for, I traveled. Honour was restored through actions and even established by my parents. As the War of Traitors arrived, Hao continued his travels with caution as he finished the final words of his auto-biography. He wrote about the figureheads in the war alongside the consequences enforced on smaller civilizations. The sides of Heaven and Hell mattered no longer as Hao learned the woes of the people. He learned their languages, cultures and ultimately broadened his comprehension of the world. He wrote throughout the War of Traitors, only ceasing shortly after Volos and Akari were confined to their realms. As languages were learned, Hao’s popularity increased throughout the world. The guardian was still hunting for his younger sister, however, the popularity created interruptions in his world. Time proceeded and Hao was devastated as he was forced to travel through more discreet means to avoid the more crazed individuals who caused more harm than good. Nonetheless, he continued writing which became a tool of validation from his parents. He began developing insomnia as his overbearing parents occasionally wrote meddling letters. Things needed to be accomplished timely, to excellence, they needed to be pleased with him. As thousands of years passed, the old guardian’s travels made him weary. Wherever he traveled, he searched for Mikki, even fearfully checking graveyards. Technology allowed his popularity to grow, Hao even establishing an e-mail for fan letters and, he prayed, a letter from his beloved little sister. Eventually, Hao settled in Lorsette, Newfoundland where the terror attacks were most frightful. He desired to capture the struggles of the TRS in the area, thus his settling became a long-term stay. Years passed as he remained in Lorsette, praying he would find a communication from his sister. Alas, a single day in public finally allowed Hao to find the person he desperately searched for. In those few moments, the man who long grew cold desired to cry, however, the urge was resisted until they entered the safety of his home. Ever since finding Mikki, Hao has taken the time to catch up and invited her to be a roommate. Thousands of years passed since their separation, thus there was plenty to talk about. misc - Likes: Writing, learning, books, pens, creativity, story writing, calming music, being alone, rain, water sounds, tea, flute music, nature, muses, reading, researching, relaxing, traveling, adventures, life experiences, learning about people (preferably through articles), birds, pondering theories, validation, history - Dislikes: His parents, overly sweet tastes, disruption, failing, bad reviews, clingy fans, invasion of privacy, people being nosy, writer’s block, restlessness, controlling behaviours, expectations, manipulators, pressure, disgrace, having to sleep, being tired - Fears: Failure, not receiving validation, getting summoned, stalkers - Hao tends to fear his more crazed fans who attempt to stalker them.
