Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Despite the fact that she was hopelessly lost, the youthful blond hadn’t regretted her decision to enter the parks impressive hedge maze. She had started when the sun had been high in the sky, but peering out from behind the dark shade of her sunglasses revealed a wash of yellow and pink across the horizon, and a now setting sun. Thankfully she had left the house in a black cardigan, maroon pullover sweater, and a pair of dark jeans, leaving the bitter chill of spring tolerable for the most part. [break][break] In Corner Brook there had never been mazes of any kind, and so she had found the whole idea fascinating. There wasn’t anything too interesting about the squarely trimmed hedge bushes, other than the fact that they purposely rose to about six feet tall. She supposed the true fun part was rounding a corner only to be stopped by a dead end. Alida had already taken her phone out quite a few times by now, mostly to catch pokémon on GO, but also to snap photos and selfies, and send them to her friends Wayne and Felicia. Sometimes she would also send a photo or text to her brother, but most of the time he was too busy with the TRS to respond. [break][break] Thoughts of her brother and father were a bit sobering, and she was incredibly impatient for them to return to Lorsette. She enjoyed the stability of her father’s strength over the household, and solely having to rely on her mother had been… well, straining to say the least. So, she had been all up for the opportunity to finally leave the house and venture out into the city, even with apprehension nipping away at her conscious. The Sheppards had been insistent on Ivory, their daughter, showing her around, but Alida had been able to convince the family, and her mom, to allow her to head to the local park on her own. [break][break] Only a dabbling of snow remained this far into March, but the consistent melting had left the pathway in the maze sludgy throughout most of it and slippery in the shade. With a heavy sigh parting from her mouth, Alida brought one of her hands through her hair, standing on her tippy toes briefly in hopes of a glimpse over the towering hedges for an answer of where to go. She was pretty sure that she had come to this particular section several times now, because of the two adjacent corners and the fact that it dead ended behind her.
She still couldn’t make anything out above the tall hedges of the maze, but a sudden commotion certainly drew Alida’s attention. A dozen or so feet away she became witness to a chase. The younger of the two looked no older than eleven and there was fear, anger, and frustration mingling on his youthful face when he was grabbed by the hood of his jacket and jerked backward. The older male, a young adult, with dirty blond hair, had been the one to grab him, and there was fury ignited within his features. He was a demon; Alida felt immediately, given the guy’s disposition and the horns that protruded from his skull.
[break][break]
The kid bashed him in retaliation and made a run for it, and when he spotted her he decided to use her for coverage and protection. When the dirty blond finally paused, his furious gaze lifting to her own, it didn’t go unnoticed how his expression and demeanor completely faltered for a moment before he grew stiff and uncomfortable, reeling it back at notch as he revealed; “Kid’s got something of mine.”
[break][break]
Alida reflected his standoffish attitude with one of her own. Although, she did turn her sharp gaze down on the kid who had decided to hide behind her. “You take something, kid?” Her features softened, though. What could she say — she was a girl. It was hard to be guarded against kids. Glancing back, she added as she addressed the guy in front of her. “Even if he did, you shouldn’t have yanked him like that. It’s not right.”
[break][break]
Irony, she realized. That’s what her words were. The thought bore down on her and caused her to breathe out a sigh and bring her hand through her hair, giving her attention back to the kid to see what he had to say for himself.
The child shook his head in denial which just seemed to irritate the other male further. Alida didn’t really appreciate being the middle man, and despite her softening when it came to the kid, she still didn’t have much sympathy or care. In fact, she felt rather apathetic toward the entire thing. But, when demon guy over there opened his big mouth, she could feel her irritation flair. Dealing with demons all her life had made her less tolerant to their bullshit. [break][break] “Look… lady. He’s a thief. I don’t care if he’s a kid, you don’t steal.” [break][break] “Yeah, yeah,” She returned dismissively, but did turn her attention back to the kid. “Look, kid. Give whatever it is you stole back.” She reached down to grasp onto his wrist. What may have been surprising was the fact that she actually believed the dirty blond. Why would he throw such a fuss on a farce? Regardless, the kid wasn’t exactly a threat. At least she didn’t feel so. That may have been an ignorant thought, considering. But, ...eh. “Or I’ll take you down to the police. You don’t want to go to jail, right? For stealing lollipops, or whatever.”
The kid actually listened to her, her threat having struck a chord. Obviously, the kid was too young to be put into jail, but he hadn’t known that, and so she had used his ignorance to her advantage. The boy pulled out what looked to be an expensive music player that he had apparently somehow swiped, and the dirty blond didn’t hesitate to snatch it back into his possession.
Alida’s grip on the boy loosened and she offered him an actual smile as well as gave him a pat on his head. “No more getting into trouble, you,” She chastised him, giving him a lighthearted smack to the bum just before he decided to head off. She looked back to the other male, then, only to see him critically examining the merchandise. The guy was probably around her age, maybe a bit older. He dressed like a lot of guys in school she had had the misfortune of being acquaintanced with. He was attractive, yeah, but she really didn’t give a shit, to be honest.
Still…
“Hey, you wanna help me out in return for that favor,” She stated, not really posing it as a question. “Get me out of here.” She actually offered him a bit of a smirk and folded her arms across her chest, peering at him from behind her dark shades.
The guy was acting a bit awkward, clearing his throat, and giving a shrug of his shoulders as he mumbled out a barely coherent ‘guess so’. In truth, she actually wasn’t used to getting this sort of bizarre treatment. But, then again, she had lived in Corner Brook where pretty much everyone had known exactly what she was. She hadn’t received any favorable opinions. Of course, there had been the odd time things like this had happened while she had been out and about, but it certainly wasn’t usual. She could hardly remember them anymore.
She wasn’t stupid though; she knew this guy could turn on her at any moment. Apparently, she was the walking, talking, embodiment of taboo. Alida followed in after him, eventually taking her place beside him as he presumably lead her through the maze and toward the exit that had been evading her for the last hour. She didn’t really have much to say. No need to ask his name, no need to get to know him. But, then again, she didn’t really know what she was doing with herself in Lorsette. This guy, and thief-boy, were the first two people she had met in the new city. Huh, maybe she should get his name after all, as a bit of a keepsake.
“Hey, what’s your name,” She stated again, in that pushy manner of hers, delving both of her hands into the front pockets of her black cardigan sweater.
“Nicolas…,” He supplied, but looked as though he had just come to some sort of horrible revelation. The look on his face instantly caused Alida to stiffen, her features becoming granite. “Remember that favor I owe you for getting my ipod back? Yeah…” He trailed off and pulled a hand from his pocket; a hand full of sand. Surprise clearly transformed Alida’s features as she stared in wonder and amazement at what he had revealed. “Consider it fulfilled. F**k.”
“That little sh*t,” She couldn’t help but find bewildered amusement in the situation, as she gave an astonished shake of her head and glanced back toward the maze. The two of them had come to the exit rather quickly, and she was thankful that this "Nicolas" fellow had actually been useful.
“Well glad we found the exit, see you later.” Alida brought her attention to him, only to see him putting a finger to his mouth to keep her quiet. “There’s only one way in and out of this damn thing…,” He revealed in a whisper. “I just have to wait until he leaves.”
“Well sh*t,” She chuckled again, her voice low, and a large smirk spread across her face. “Don’t worry, we’ll get him.” She perched down on the stone half-wall beside him, crossing one leg over the other. “I can’t believe the little brat. Oh, he got me good.”
Nicolas laughed, but again there was an awkwardness to it. Alida physically rolled her eyes from behind her shades, wondering if he was attracted to her. Over her last few years of high school she had suffered through a lot of vulgar commentary regarding her features and so she was not ignorant to the fact that males found her exotically attractive. But, she wished they didn’t and that she wasn’t; some of the things that had been said to her were downright terrifying.
“Look… I mean you don’t have to stick around.” Nicolas told her. Alida glanced to him and could see that he was staring straight ahead, his face scrunched in distaste. “You don’t even know me.”
“So what,” She gave a shrug, but her earlier thoughts made her second guess her nonchalant attitude. Why was she sticking around? Why was she bothering to humor him? Eh… Who even was this guy, and would he one day decide to try and physically beat her, like so many of the others?
“Che,” She made a noise of annoyance, dropping her leg, and leaned forward to start and get up. However, within her pocket her hand hit… “...The hell…,” She whispered out tightly, her jaw clenched, and her gaze going to Nicolas as she very pointedly pulled out her hand, gripping a fistful of sand. “The little ass stole my phone!” She shouted, springing into a standing position with every intention to storm the maze.
Nicolas hadn’t hesitated to reach out and clamp down over one of her wrists, keeping her rooted in her spot. “Wait. What are you going to do, run around in hopes that you spot him?” Alida’s sharp mahogany gaze riveted to the other, blond hair falling over one shoulder, as she took in his scrutinizing words. Sure, whatever, she deserved that. She had acted irrationally, and had already bullied him on various points throughout their meeting today.
But, when he turned the plan to her flying over the maze while he secured the thief, her expression quickly narrowed in distaste. Although she had been picked on at Corner Brook high, even physically assaulted, one of the things that had been more rare was them underestimating her. Downplaying her ability to apprehend or kick ass. Sure, they’d talk shit — but that’s all it had been. They had all known, underneath the lies, that she had been a force to be reckoned with.
“How about you take the skies, pretty boy?” She challenged, placing one of her hands on her hip as she cocked an eyebrow at him. “I’ll apprehend our little thief.”
The dirty blond seemed so utterly confounded and tongue-tied that Alida faltered for a second. A sheepish sort of feeling sweltered over her feminine form, tinting her cheeks with the subtlest hint of a blush. The fact that she had rendered him completely useless, and all while he stared at her, mouth agape, made her feel a bit… frazzled. What the hell? Get a grip, weirdo. She silently fumed, but thankfully (for Nicolas) he had decided to finally get his sense about him and summoned his demon wings to take to the sky. Alida felt a twinge of envy enter her as she watched him take flight for a moment, knowing that her own wings resembled a bird, not a bat. She needed to do something about that.
With a conniving and mischievous smile spreading across her face, she didn’t hesitate to finally head into the maze, following the guide of the demon, while she silently relished in the thought of proving her worth to this sorry sod. How dare he assume that she couldn’t handle herself. She’d get this little thief, and teach them all a lesson.
For a moment, Alida had no idea what Nicolas was going on about with his hand gestures. She stared up at him, a clearly perplexed expression on her features, but as he excessively pointed and mouthed the answer to her, realization dawned on the blond. She gave him the A-OK, suddenly feeling a bit… entertained, although it was probably terrible for her to feel so. They were essentially terrorizing this poor kid. But, he was a thief, and she was going to teach him a lesson.
When Nicolas landed at the top of the barrier, Alida stepped forward, hands first. The illusion of green hedges flickered and distorted, dissolving into dirt, pouring down over her shoulders and hair as she stepped through. With clumps tumbling down her bangs and hitting her in the nose, she was clearly unamused as she stepped forward into the enclosed space the kid had made for himself.
With a snap of her forefinger and thumb, she had erected a barrier of her own — one made of darkness, completely sealing off the only exit. “I’m skipping the police and going to spank your ass myself,” She sternly told him, crossing her arms over her chest. However, more of the dirt lost its hold and fell from her shoulder, over her arms and chest. “Argh, really.” She openly complained, and took a moment out of the interrogation to begin dusting down her hair and clothes.
Alida paused mid-dusting when the dark haired kid suddenly began shifting. To say she was surprised would have been an understatement, yet it hadn’t come to the honey blond as completely blind-sided. The Shephard’s had warned her of Lorsette and the fact that the city was a melting pot of different species. “F**k off lady,” The overweight, muscular, bearded man warned her, now standing a good few inches above her own height. “And you call the cops and I gut your friend.”
He held a dagger within one hand, threatening the two of them, treating her like some sort of damsel in distress. She supposed she wasn’t the sharpest crayon in the box, and held a temper like a firecracker. Growing up in an environment where she had been constantly beaten down by her peers left her with an edge of irrational decisions, borne from a lack of fear, in dangerous situations.
Whips and lashes of solid darkness ejected from the shadows in a split second, Nicolas still in mid-sentence from atop the barrier. They shot out to bind around the man’s eyes, acting like anchors and chains that were meant to pull him backward and bind him to the ground. “F**k you,” She hollered as they made contact, two others simultaneously targeting the burly man’s ankles, intending to rip his fat ass from the ground and let gravity fasten him to his demise. The one thing she hadn’t targeted, ironically enough, had been the dagger he still held clutched in one meaty fist.
Roughly an hour and a half had passed since the whole burglar fiasco, and both she and Nicolas had been required to give lengthy statements to the police officers who had arrived at the scene, taking the man away in handcuffs. They had been given their stolen belongings back, but in the aftermath of it all… Alida felt kind of sick. Her complexion had noticeably paled, and she had taken the opportunity to sit down at one of the park’s benches while Nicolas finished up with the police. She had used up quite a bit of her energy. Contrary to demons, her species actually only held the ability to wield over minor manipulation, and the amount she had exerted in that moment of adrenaline and drive, along with the stress of the investigation, had left her feeling sick and lightheaded.
This wasn’t at all what she had imagined when she had convinced her mother and the Shephard’s that she would simply be going to the “park”. How had it ended in a crime scene? Alida held her head within her hands, bent forward with her elbows propped on her knees, and her long honey blond hair cascading down over her shoulders. Her sunglasses had long since been removed, instead clipped to one of her jean’s waist loops.
When she spied Nicolas venturing over, and the police finally taking their leave, she openly groaned in complaint. “Ugh, I feel like shit.”
Nicolas sat down on the bench next to her, leaned back and stretched his legs out. “Yeah,” He agreed and then asked, “You ever deal with cops before?”
The energy was zapped from her and the headache it had brought forth felt like a drill burrowing into the life side of her skull. Damn, she had really overdone it, hadn’t she? Still, the f***ing bastard had deserved all she had delivered. If she had actually been a full-fledged demon, she could have dished out even more. Speaking of which, Nicolas had been completely useless (minus his call to the police). Although, she was far too tired to care or make a quip remark.
Instead, she slouched back against the bench and spread her legs out in very much the same manner as the demon counterpart, and let both of her hands fall to the bench beside her. “Yeah…,” She muttered out, and then exhaled a large sigh of relief. “Gotten into… a lot of fights over the years.”
“You’re tough I’ll give you that, but crazy.” Nicolas openly joked with her, his mood light and different from the way it had been during their meeting this afternoon. Alida wondered if it was due to exhaustion, or if it was her own low energy levels that made him appear more amiable and approachable than before. “So why were you out here all alone anyways?”
“I’m new to Lorsette,” She explained, too tired to have her usual pep or attitude, and was actually much more laid back and casual as well. “Staying with some friends of the family. Wanted personal space, I guess.”
She snorted and tilted her head back, closing her eyes as she rested. “Hah, I said to my mom before I left; ‘It’s just the park. Nothing’s going to happen!’. I stand corrected.”
She couldn’t believe that she had spent all day out at this maze. Looking out at the road before them, the street light’s had actually turned on to illuminate the parking lot and sidewalk, and the sun had all but set by this point. She hadn’t even noticed how late it had actually gotten.
“I’m new too. Not sure I expected to meet someone else like that,” The dirty blond demon commented with a twinge of awkwardness resurfacing. Offhandedly, Alida wondered if this was what conversation between two demons was like? Was this what Felicia experienced? Could demon men actually be… awkward around other hell-related women? The thought was souring, because she had never been able to experience it. She wondered what kind of expression this guy would make if she revealed what she was to him. It’d wipe that awkwardness clean off that pretty little face of his.
“Yeah, well, I think that’s the point of Lorsette,” She managed to keep her tone casual and the conversation going, despite her inner thoughts. “It’s a melting pot of ‘diversity’.”
