Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
"The Terrors, hmm... I've honestly never been sure what to think of those." Alec spoke, his expression spacey as he thought on it. He'd seen a few, but never stayed around long enough to observe. Though it certainly did seem to be true that they thrived on attacking people. But were they creatures of their own will, or tools? He still wasn't entirely clear on that. He'd like to meet a member of AP so that he could ask about them. As the conversation segued, Alec smiled as Silas mentioned hopefully meeting up with husband. "That would be good, too! Either way, it seems as though everything should be fine, once we get there." He agreed, nodding. Looking back to Silas, however, to took note of the somewhat worried look on his face. "Is something bothering you?" He asked, with a concerned look of his own. The wraith certainly seemed to be going through a lot. "It's going to be a bit of a walk, still... Hey, how about you tell me about yourself? The things you remember, at least." He suggested, looking rather excitable. "I'll tell you about myself, too, if you'd like to know."
Silas could only remember the Terrors being deemed as scary, but that was only because his memory was limited to the time he died till now, which was a year ago. "I think because they only seem to kill, they are evil.... I've never been a fan of those.... or at least I don't think I was.... I mean I was a hunter before I died..." He was choosing to believe that side of history unable to remember it for himself. He nodded his head in agreement, the sooner he found Umberto, the sooner things will get better for him. "Not everybody at TRS was happy to find out I was alive... I hurt people by dying and not remembering them...." He answered, sighing, the last thing he wanted was to allow that woman to ruin his good mood.
"I just decided if I run into her, I'll try and avoid tension...." He forced a fake smile to cross his lips, the last thing he wanted was for Alec to worry about him. "That is alright...." He honestly didn't mind the walk, though the history exchanged brought a real smile to his lips. "Well, I found out from my husband that my name is Silas Darian, I was an elite hunter previously, I have a sister I don't remember.... I recently joined back up.... oh I was a warlock before I died.... so that would make my sister a witch.... I can't remember anything else." He waited for Alec to give his answer as he tried remembering some more stuff.
"Mm... Is killing what makes something evil?" Alec pondered, looking up to the sky in thought. Many creatures killed. Though Silas was right, Terrors did seems to only kill. But having never seen one in person, he couldn't make any further judgements. Did they eat people? Was the killing simply instinct, or just for the hell of it? What kind of creatures were they, anyway? "A hunter, hmm? You must be pretty strong, then. I'm sorry you died." He spoke, looking back towards the other. "Really? If I'd lost someone I loved and they returned as Undead, I'd be happy just to know they were back, whether they remembered me or not. Even though I wouldn't be able to hug them, or be as close as before... Isn't it enough, that you still exist?" He asked, his expression falling. "Though... It's true that everyone handles such things differently. I guess there's those that simply can't handle it right off the bat." He added, pondering what Silas had said. "I can't claim to know what happened between you and the girl you mentioned, but perhaps she just needs time to come to terms with things?" "An elite hunter... That sounds pretty powerful. I've met a few warlocks before, too! Human magic is such an interesting thing. It must be strange, to be told you have a sibling, but know nothing of them... Perhaps you just need to meet her all over again." Alec spoke, smiling. "Ah, as for myself! Well... I'm an Elf. My mother was Fae. She never mentioned my father, so I'm not sure about that. I'm sixty-two! Pretty young for an elf, I think, but I've been trying to make the most of my life." "I spent the first thirty or so years living in a certain forest glade with my mother. It's funny, up until the day I left, I had no idea there was anything outside of that forest. She despised people, so I guess she wanted to keep me away. I've been to all sorts of places, now. I'm sure I'll be going to a lot more, too." He continued, grinning. He liked talking about his life, even if it was the shortened version. "I work as a freelancer. Basically, I take any request, no matter how little or big. If it's something I'm unfamiliar with, then I use it as a chance to learn. I've got quite a few skills under my belt, at this point, but there's still so much left."
Silas watched Alec, he personality thought that it fit perfectly for Terrors. They were created only for the purpose of killing. They didn't do anything else but attack the innocent and those who went against the AP. "I wish I could remember the reason why me....." He mumbled, not mentioning his sister had been there that night. "I think it mostly the shock that I'm here and well a year went by and they are barely finding out about it...." Though it made sense to him, he just couldn't see himself as being the type to give a hard time, more focused on the happiness of that person being back. "I hope so...." He answered, sighing as they kept walking. "She was upset with my husband too.... all because I was alive and failed to let her know.... He didn't know that long before she found out and she still was upset with him anyway. I can understand the frustration but wanting to hurt him, it just isn't appropriate...."
He stared at the ground as he walked, his husband was ashamed at how that day had ended and he felt like he failed to comfort him even though he had followed Umberto, wrapping his arms around him. He flinched when Alec made the comment about meeting his sister all over again.... "Well you see.... I... I knew her before Umberto brought her home.... not like my memory remembered her as my sister already but.... It is complicated." He finished, then asked Alec about himself so that he wouldn't have to talk about himself for a few minutes. Hearing all about Alec made him feel so much better. "Are you happy you came out here?" He asked, curious since Alec had mentioned his mother despising people.
"I see... I suppose after a year, it would be quite the shock. Even so, it's certainly not your fault that you've lost your memories, so how could anyone put the blame on you? It must've been quite the year without any memories of yourself." He spoke, in thought, his brows furrowed. Life was a complicated thing, for sure. "Mm... Still, it's amazing that you've gained a second chance." He added with a nod. The whole concept of the undead was fascinating. His Fae blood seemed to consider them some foul monstrosity, but Alec couldn't help but just want to get to know them, more. "She wanted to hurt him...? That's quite the overreaction." He commented, his head tilting in concern. "Did things turn out alright...?" He asked, hoping the situation between the siblings wasn't still spiraling. A sour relationship between family was a sad thing, to be sure. "Before?" The elf repeated, thinking on Silas' explanation. "Mm, that does seem complicated." He agreed, wondering if there was any advice he could give to help. It seemed he simply didn't know enough. Would it be rude to pry any further? "Ah, I am! Very happy, yes. The world is so much bigger than I ever could have imagined, when I was little. When I first stepped out of the forest into that town, I worried that I had crossed into another world. Imagine my surprise to realize there was even more beyond that." He spoke, laughing at the memory. He had been so frightened. His mother had spoken of other races, and even her own kind, as monsters. Alec had imagined them as such, as monsters that lurked in shadows, before finally seeing for himself. Now, he would never think of another person as a monster, no matter their personality or actions. People were simply people, and they all deserved a chance.
Silas nodded his head. "Yeah... I was smart enough to write down my husband's name to not forget.... but I failed to write down where I would find him so it took me a whole year and my husband to see me before I was found. I don't give myself credit for finding him, he, he found me." The conversation was quick to change to a female TRS agent. "Yeah, I think she was moody because she thought training me had been a waste.... I mean, she claimed that we acted like siblings but.... the fact she has one hell of a temper makes me question it...." He mumbled, trying to keep actions vague. "It hadn't been a good day but I'm still standing so I suppose that is good enough.... it was because of that day I was giving my husband space... that was worse than being by his side though because I'm sure he is worried about me. I miss him too...."
The subject had been changed about him and his sister. "It is hard to say, I hurt her feelings because I don't remember her but.... I'd rather not go into further detail because I haven't talked to my husband about it yet. It would be only fair for me to mention it to him first." He was surprised that his husband didn't seem to know, his sister could have chosen to tell him after all. He couldn't help but smile slightly when Alec mentioned how he is happy. "I'm glad that you think that we aren't all monsters...." He walked slightly faster from excitement. "Sooooooo who have you met so far.... species wise? I'm curious.... Maybe you can meet my sister, she is a witch.... or my husband who is a familiar..."
"After all you've been through, it's bound to be a bit bumpy, still, I suppose." Alec spoke, chuckling. "And that's alright!" He continued, as the other explained he wouldn't feel right telling him something he hadn't told his husband. "Communication is super important you know. I listen to people's stories all the time, and you'd be amazed to realize just how many of their problems stem from poor communication." He mused, shaking his head a bit. It was true. As the other asked what kind of people he had met, Alec turned to him with another grin. "I've met so many! Ahh, mostly humans... But a lot of other species', too. I haven't met many witches or warlocks, though. And honestly, I'd only met one of two Undead, before moving to this city. Now that I think about it, this city was quite an extreme amount of interesting people, doesn't it... I wonder what it is that draws us here." He spoke in though, pausing. It seemed to him, that most of the people he'd met in Lorsette hadn't been born in the city, but moved there. Was it a coincidence? "Let's see... Before I left Norway, I met a couple of Gifted humans, as well as a few Faekin. Though, my mother is still the only proper Fae I've ever met. I went to Denmark from there, and there were some funny Shifters I would hang out with. Ah, I can hardly remember where I've been, anymore... Though I was also good friends with a Lycanthrope, and I met an Angel, too. I thought he was a bird shifter, at first... There were so many things I didn't know, when I left home, every new unique species I met was a bit of a shock, to me."
Silas sighed, "It is true, it is just... for what I need to tell him.... It is going to be hard to form it into words..." He wasn't sure how he'd go about telling Umbero that his sister was there when he died. He just didn't want Umberto being upset at her too, the little bit of time they spent together, he couldn't help but find her to be somewhat innocent. The last thing he wanted to do was cause possible tension between her and his husband. "I'll feel much better once I finally get around to telling him." He didn't want to make a promise and possibly break it, so it would be better to wait until he was comfortable before doing it. Silas couldn't help but smile slightly. "Oh I see." He answered as he listened to Alec speak. "It sounds like you've met so many people." Whether they were good encounters or not, that would be for Alec to know, but he couldn't help but feel slightly excited for him anyway.
Then of course meeting his sister and husband would just add to the different people Alec had a chance to meet. "An angel as a bird shifter? That sounds so adorable." He found himself walking slightly faster, not thinking about how close he had gotten to Alec.
"Honestly there's nothing quite like getting a load off your shoulders like that, when it's been weighing you down for so long." Alec agreed with a nod, crossing his arms over his chest. He'd had very few such experiences in his long life, considering how he typically had no trouble being honest, but he still understood. Not knowing how someone might react could be worrisome-- it was natural for people to fear any sort of unknown. "I wish you luck with that, Silas." He offered, smiling. "Ah, I have! I hope I get to meet a lot more, too." Alec agreed, grinning as he nodded. So far, this town had been a gold mine for that venture. There were interesting people scattered around every corner. Real conveninent for making new friends. Of course, there also seemed to be serial killers and monsters scattered around every corner, but that was beside the point. Chuckling to him, he glanced back towards Silas, being careful to keep a certain distance so that he wouldn't get too sick too fast. Still not as mcuh distance as he should have kept, but at least he was making an effort. After a while longer of walking, Alec began to recognize the streets near their destination. "Oh, it should just be another block or two, now!" He explained, smiling as he gestured in the general direction of the building. He'd wanted to chat a bit longer, but he supposed it was alright. It was probably best for the man to get back to his family quickly. "What will you do when we get there? Will there be a way for you to contact your husband?"
Silas nodded his head in agreement. "Thank you." He did appreciate the luck, feeling like he would need it. If only he could remember his past, perhaps it would have helped him with his current situation. Not only finding his way back home but how to handle the people giving him such a hard time over things happening. Or at least he hoped it would become easier as soon as he got his memory back. Though there were quite a few times that he was scared of getting his memory back because he wouldn't like the person who he ended up being. Though there were plenty of people here that would do harm, he knew quite a few people that wouldn't. For one, his husband whom he couldn't help but love dearly. Knowing he would laid down his life if it meant keeping him safe.
And the girl that he called his sister, slowly starting to care about her well being, unaware of his past memories trying to affect him emotionally. There were also a few people in TRS that he trusted with his life, such as his apprentice and even that woman who claimed to kick his butt if they ever crossed paths again. He just couldn't explain why he felt that way about any of them. As they kept walking, Alec mentioned how it would be another block or two. He couldn't help but feel like he recognized his location. It was only a few more minutes before the TRS HQ had become in view. He was pulled from his thoughts. "I hope so, I do know there are plenty of people there that know him and likely kept in touch." He answered, hoping he would run into them when he got into the building.
As Evelyn's familiar, Umberto did have duties to assist her nonetheless, especially considering he had promised Silas he would all those years ago. The familiar had fixated his attention on the female redhead, his eyes adverted from his husband. They talked for a few minutes and when the conversation finally concluded and Umberto turned around, Silas was missing. A soft sigh escaped the blue-haired man's lips as he began walking around the house, believing that perhaps his lover decided to excuse himself to a different room. The familiar checked various rooms, panic increasing whenever he found a room empty. As he filtered through the rooms, only finding the same drab walls, furniture and no Silas, Umberto swore under his breath and hurried to the front door. Already, his right hand dipped into his pocket, fishing out his cellphone.
Unfortunately, the familiar had lacked the opportunity to buy his husband a new phone, resulting in him calling the neighbours in hopes Silas had merely wandered to a nearby house. He walked frantically down the sidewalk, eyes searching for his husband desperately while he inquired numerous people from over the phone. Inside his chest, Umberto's heart began to beat rapidly as his concerns elevated over the man he held dearly. Not long had passed since Silas had returned as a wraith, the young man still struggling with memory loss from the circumstances of his death. The determination to find his lover increased alongside the panic as minutes began ticking and no signs of his precious Silas arrived. Fears conquered the familiar's mind, his pessimistic thought process causing him to worry about his husband possibly facing his demise a second time. He was uncertain if he could spend more years knowing Silas could possibly be gone forever, the very concept began tearing Umberto apart.
There was a quiver to the familiar's hand the longer the search continued, the cellphone being stored in his pocket while he resorted to yelling out his husband's name. Frantically, Umberto's eyes would glance around, praying to notice the russet hair of his beautiful lover. A sweet man with amnesia could not be left out on the dangerous streets of Lorsette where crime ran rampant and terrors lurked. He feared never finding the man he adored, his heart beating faster as time proceeded, pounding agonizingly against his rib cage; almost like the sinister ticking of a clock. Suddenly, there was the recognizable ringing of his phone, the familiar answering it before it could ring a second time. A panicked greeting was provided, the person providing the information he desired as Umberto's eyes flew open in surprise.
A member of the TRS informed him that Silas had somehow managed to end up near their headquarters, which surprised Umberto. He had not expected for his amnesiac husband to get extremely far from home; either way, the familiar was determined to arrive their quickly. A cab was hailed as instructions were hastily provided, the vehicle carrying the anxious man closer to where his husband had been seen. Eventually, he arrived, Umberto giving the driver the money for the drive before leaping out the car and running towards the building. He entered the double doors, his eyes flitting around until they finally landed on his beloved husband. Without hesitation, Umberto hurried towards Silas, reaching out to wrap his arms around him.
"SILAS!" He exclaimed, adjusting to look at his husband with a worried expression. "DON'T YOU EVER WANDER OFF LIKE THAT AGAIN! Okay? I was so worried about you..."
The familiar stared at his husband, on the verge of tears from the intense concern that gripped him a few moments prior. He had feared never finding Silas, but thankfully, he had found the man he loved. A slight calmness transcended over Umberto as he began analyzing his husband for any injuries.
As they approached the TRS building, Alec's concern grew. What if when they got there, there wasn't anyone around who could contact Silas' husband? He couldn't just leave the man there and hope for the best. Pondering it, he'd just decided that he'd definitely be sticking around until Silas was for sure with someone he knew, when there was suddenly a large figure sprinting up to them, basically tackling the redhead as it wrapped him in ta hug. Alec has looked on in concern, though soon relaxing with a small laugh as he realized the loud man was definitely just Silas' husband. Standing at the sideline, the elf stood patiently while the two reunited, his hands locked behind his back. He couldn't just leave now that things were settled, he had to say bye to his new friend. Though he felt a little awkward, watching, it was obvious that Umberto had been absolutely trodden with worry, so he was glad that they had gotten back together safely. Suddenly feeling queasy as he hadn't noticed he'd been standing too close, the elf took a sneaky step back in attempt to ease it. Just for a little longer.
Silas had reached out for the door handle, pulling it open before slipping inside. No sooner had it made it inside the building that somebody else had come inside, wrapping their arms around him. At first he had thought it was Alec but the words that had come out of the person's mouth proved to be from somebody else. He knew that voice, he would melt in his husband's embrace. He slowly turned so that he could look at Umberto before wrapping his arms around him. "Umberto.... I'm sorry." He whispered, tightening his grip slightly. "I got lost... then I met him." He glanced towards Alec, as to prove that they weren't alone. "He walked with me until I remembered this building... I knew that you'd find me..." He whispered, feeling ashamed that he couldn't remember the way home. Directions around the city proved to be easier because he had been wandering around here for so long, unlike their house that he had only barely gotten somewhat familiar with.
He happened to look towards Alec, noticing him take a step back. "Are you alright?" He asked, being reminded that his presence made Alec sick because of the fact he was an undead and Alec was an elf. "I'm so sorry...." He whispered, feeling ashamed that he was causing so many people, problems today. It was then, that he had remembered that he had failed to introduce them to each other. "Alec, this is my husband Umberto." He glanced towards Umberto, "Umberto, this is Alec. He is... he is my friend." He wasn't sure why he felt so nervous admitting that. He had only just found out about his husband and yet it felt so strange introducing friends to him, somewhat worried that Umberto might get upset by it. I wish I could remember my past.... How much did I know as a warlock before I lost my memory?
A tight embrace was maintained around Silas, Umberto possessing no desires to release his precious husband. After fretting over his beloved husband for the extended period of time he wandered off, the familiar was happy to have his arms wrapped around him. Never would Umberto allow for Silas to wander off that easily, especially considering there could still be people lurking around who desired to harm his lover. The familiar was terrified of the notion of feeling those phantom pains and those intense feeling of loneliness; he would not let Silas be killed again. When his husband turned in his embrace, arms promptly wrapping around him, Umberto finally relaxed, finding serenity in the embrace. There was nothing better than gaining the opportunity to embrace his beloved Silas, the familiar happy to find his husband unharmed from his wandering.
The moment his husband apologized and tightened his grip, Umberto reciprocated the action by squeezing Silas affectionately. Quietly, he listened as his lover explained he had gotten lost and later was found and escorted here by another individual, the familiar glancing to where Silas was looking. When the redhead finished explaining, Umberto carefully rubbed his husband's back in an attempt to soothe him. The familiar's gaze remained on the stranger, providing him with a fragile smile as he kept his husband close.
"Thank you so much," Umberto said softly before his gaze returned to Silas. "You don't have to apologize to me, just be more careful, okay? I don't want you getting hurt."
The familiar believed his own ignorance to be the cause for his husband wandering off. If he had been more attentive, he could have made certain his beloved husband remained inside the house. When Silas apologized to the blond man, Umberto tightened his grip and continued to rub his back, attempting to provide comfort. The introduction caught the blue-haired man's attention as he proceeded to hug Silas, sparing a glance at Alec to give a nod of acknowledgement. Being rather anti-social, Umberto usually had difficulty interacting with strangers until he became familiar with them. While he quietly embraced his husband, there was a mild worry with the quick relationship Silas established with the blond, Umberto wondering if perhaps Silas managed to find somebody better already. There was no hesitation as his depression used the opportunity to rip apart his emotions, the familiar hugging Silas tighter, wanting the redhead to remain with him.
Releasing his husband from his grip was impossible, especially considering his fretting over losing the wraith to a different man; he prayed the gods would not take Silas away from him. The familiar was uncertain he could handle Silas departing from him, even if happiness was a possibility from it.
Alec couldn't help but smile wide as he watched the two, though he tried to hide it for the sake of being polite. While the intense display of affection was certainly cute, it was clear that the both of them had been under quite a bit of stress from the whole ordeal. As the hug between them lingered he was starting to wonder if Umberto had any intention of ever releasing the Wraith. Probably not. It was understandable, if he was prone to wandering off. Laughing a bit at his own thoughts, Alec quickly caught himself and cleared his throat as he glanced away, wondering if it was time for him to go. Though he had been a bit reluctant to just leave, his worries were eased as Silas referred to him as a friend. He wouldn't have to worry about being avoided on any future encounters. "--Ah, it's no problem." Alec spoke upon being thanked, chuckling. "I enjoyed chatting." He added, then pausing as he observed the others. There was a notable change in the blue-haired one's demeanor. The way he was hugging Silas, now, seemed more possessive than anything else. Well, he supposed that was understandable, too. "Hmm, not to pry, but perhaps you should help Silas relearn the streets around here. Or at least around your house. Specifically your address. Maybe a phone, too, so that you won't have to worry. I can't help but feel like you're intending to keep him held up inside, because of this..." Alec suggested, having decided to speak his mind on the matter.
