Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Eased by the chilled night air, Alec stepped at a steady pace along the empty pathways he followed, having long since stopped paying attention to where he was. He'd never had a destination in mind when he started walking, so he didn't particularly need one, now. It'd been an easy day of work. All his requests had been such little things, like fixing trinkets or finding pets. One person had even asked him to get proof that their spouse was cheating? It seemed a lot of people mistook him for some sort of investigator. Still, as a freelancer, it didn't matter to him what kind of job it was. If it was something he'd never done before, then he'd certainly learn. His thoughts often wandered alongside his feet as he walked. Sometimes to the events of the day, sometimes to his past, but most often, to his future. It was the same for everyone, right? All people wandered how they might end up, or what might happen next in their life. But honestly, if there was anything that scared Alec, it was his future. To think that one day, he might not be himself, anymore. That he might change so much over the centuries, that he could no longer be 'Alec.' And if he wasn't Alec, then who would he be? His steps paused as he managed to upset himself with 'what-ifs,' his gaze focusing in on the ground in front of him, and his lips curling into a frown. Shaking his head of the worries, he finally glanced up to take stock. As usual, he didn't recognize the area. He'd been walking for a while, so that was to be expected. But not knowing where you are is just a part of the adventure. Sometimes, it was his favorite part. His frown gradually faded as he looked over his surroundings, making various guesses as to his general location-- he had no trouble seeing in the night, the dark's shadows ineffective against his eyes. It certainly wasn't the cleanest part of town, but that didn't tell him much. Perhaps he'd just have to keep walking. Well, that was the plan, until he took note of a familiar sound nearby. Footsteps. Muffled, but close. Not nearly as wary as he should have been considering the dangers of the town, he smiled. He could just ask where he was.
Benjamin had seen his husband again, mixed emotions had overwhelmed him. His husband didn't remember being married to him, didn't even know who the hell he was. He had known for a while that he would want to find clues into the person that had killed his husband, feeling that phantom pain, it had to be the reason behind it, prove being when he had seen Abel as a golem instead. Normally he could find himself in his closest during his freetime, desiring nothing more than to hold a dress in front of himself to determined on if he would be prettier in this one or that one. He ran his hand through his hair, frustrated at this outcome. If his husband didn't remember him, was it even worth having him back? He couldn't bring himself to accept the idea of his beloved husband falling love with another person, no, he would kill them before there was the slightest chance of that ever happening. He wouldn't give Abel up to anybody else. What am I doing? I shouldn't be thinking of such thoughts to Abel, even if he does move on.... He pressed his hand against his face, stressed. Before I had died, I never would have thought of such thoughts against my husband.
Something wet had dabbled down his check, he lowered his hand to look into the mirror, seeing that of a tear slowly falling down his cheek. He thinks he is the monster, he doesn't even know the meaning of the word. He thought to himself, having done some terrible things since becoming the slums leader. He raised his hand to wipe the tear from his cheek, determined to refrain from crying further. I need fresh air. He turned away from the mirror, wearing a dress shirt with black slacks. He exited his room and started walking down the hall before exiting the building. It was dark outside, the breeze felt cold against his skin. The price he had to pay for choosing to not dress warmer when he was a lich. He walked down the street, after a few minutes he noticed a figure in the distance, closing the distance between them because he just so happened to be heading in the same direction, unaware the guy didn't know where he was going. Another breeze, he found himself crossing his arms, holding himself somewhat tightly to try and warm up. Now within talking distance, he would look at the guy. "Hello." It was a greeting, though he was starting to regret having come outside without putting something warmer on.
Turning on his heels, Alec took note of the approaching figure, already wearing a friendly smile. He'd been warned before to be careful when exploring the town at night, but he hadn't actually put it to consideration. He liked to believe most people were still nice. 'Good' or 'bad' didn't really matter, as long as there was 'nice.' At the simple greeting, Alec's smile grew as he nodded his head. "Hello." He returned, adjusting his pace to walk alongside the stranger. He hadn't yet taken note of the tickle of nausea forming in his gut from the close proximity to the Undead. He was just about to ask for directions, when he noticed how the other seemed to be under-dressed for the weather, and struggling for warmth. "--Oh, hey. Here, take this." He spoke without hesitation, removing his own coat to hand it over to the stranger. "It's really cold out, so you have to keep that in mind when you want to go for a walk." He asserted almost as though scolding a child, still holding out the coat. "Could catch your death, you know." He mused, shaking his head. "Where are you headed? --Oh, right, I was supposed to be asking for directions. I've been walking for a while, and honestly, I'm not entirely sure where I've ended up."
Benjamin couldn't hold back as smile when the stranger had greeted him in return, to his surprise he adjusted his pace so that they would be walking side by side to each other. He couldn't help but appear surprised when the stranger had removed his own coat to hand it to him. "Oh no... that is alright." He had planned on refusing it, not wishing to cause trouble for this stranger. "It's stranger.... I find myself agreeing with you, though if you had make the comment a few years ago, I would have disagreed with you." He chuckled, not meaning to say he had died but hey, he was now a lich, easier to become cold.
"I'm not really headed anywhere.... I just came out for a stroll because fresh air sounded like a good idea.... I'm currently debating on if I think it was a good idea or not." He rubbed his arms again, deciding at the last second he would borrow this stranger's coat after all. "Thank you." He would wear it until the stranger took it back or they part ways, which ever came first. "This area is the slums.... or poorer part of the city." He explained, pointing in the direction stranger would want to go if he planned on heading back where it wasn't nearly as poor.
"Mmm, I see. Can't go wrong with a night-time stroll. As long as you dress for it." Alec spoke, chuckling. He was relieved that the other had taken his offer to borrow the jacket-- He would have been worried for him the entire time, if not. As he was given direction, the Half Fae took note of the pointed direction, but still only turned back around to continue walking alongside the other. An odd feeling bubbled in the pit of his stomach, but he ignored it, only clearing his throat as if that would help ease the discomfort. "Thank you. I haven't walked this far in a while... I was pretty caught up in my thoughts. Do you mind if I accompany you for a while?" He asked with a polite smile, his hand reaching up to wipe chilled sweat from his neck. It took him a moment to even notice the action, though he soon looked to his hand in confusion. Why would he be sweating? The moment the question entered his mind, the nausea hit him all at once, causing him to stagger in his step before pausing altogether. "Ah-- Um, sorry. I'm suddenly not feeling too well, myself." He excused in a quick ramble, struggling to keep his breathing steady. By that point, he had a good guess for what was going on, but he was reluctant to ask. "Are you--- I don't mean to sound rude, but are you undead?" He questioned with a conflicted expression, his voice weaker than before. He'd had this happen before, a few times, and it was never pleasant.
Benjamin shrugged his shoulders, ever since he had come back as a lich, even the slightest bit of cold seemed to put him on edge, being able to dress the way he used to, it was impossible unless he forced himself to bare through it. "Well you see, I always tell myself it was worth it in the long run. As if I could possibly getting used to it if I do it often enough." Though it hadn't happened yet, he still had high hopes that he'd find a way to manage through this cold. He didn't want to have to dress warmer just to endure it, he wanted to be how he was before he had died. To his surprise, the stranger had chosen to remain nearby him, not that he was complaining, he just wasn't used to have company, it felt nice. "I don't mind." He answered, somewhat distracted by his own thoughts. When the stranger staggered, he stopped walking to turn back.
"Are you?" He started, pausing when the stranger spoke up. Something was wrong, he just wasn't sure what it was. The stranger explained that he wasn't feeling well, it seemed to answer that question but the question that had come to him was a surprise. The question had sting, he found himself staring at the stranger for a moment before letting out a sigh. Of course, I forgot some people couldn't handle being around me... He slowly removed the jacket from his figure, reaching out to hand it to the stranger. "Yes." Whether the stranger had reached for the jacket or not, he turned away from him and started walking away. I remember back when I was a medic, all I wanted to do was help people.... now.... I'm this... I can only hurt people unless I go away....
Alec glanced up as the jacket was held near him, his brows furrowing in confusion. He'd only wanted confirmation on the reason he felt ill, but it didn't change his intentions, any. He still wanted to keep the other company. "--Hey, wait. Wait." He called out once he managed to regain himself a little, hurrying to catch back up with the man. "Here, keep the jacket on." "I'm not leaving, yet. I'll just walk a little further behind, if that's alright." Alec spoke, allowing himself to fall back several feet to avoid the worst of the toxicity, once the jacket was back with the other. At least in the quiet night air, there would still be no trouble in talking to each other. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you, it just kind of snuck up on me." He continued, laughing softly in attempt to dismiss the illness as a funny miscircumstance. "...Oh! I haven't even introduced myself yet. I'm Alec. I'm half Fae, hence the... You know. You can keep the jacket for tonight, by the way. If you're going to be walking for a while, it's best that you have it. I can always pick it back up some other time if I need it." He offered, nodding.
Benjamin was confused when he heard the stranger calling from behind him. You don't understand, you won't start feeling better unless I give you distance... He thought to himself, debating on how he would go about politely making such a comment. The stranger had told him to take the jacket, he raised a brow at the offer, thinking since it was his, he should refuse, it was only cold outside. The jacket was handed to him, he found himself staring at it, listening to the stranger speak about not leaving just yet. "I understand." He answered, not sure how he could push this stranger away, partly because deep down he desired the company. With a breath, he spoke up. "I'm not upset with you." He answered, feeling upset at himself for dying, maybe a little bit upset that some species couldn't handle being near undead, but he really couldn't blame them.
Feeling sick wasn't a fun experience, he was just on the short end of the stick where he couldn't give everybody in the world help as he once desired. "Are you sure you'll be fine back there? I understand if you need more distance... It isn't the first time somebody got sick near me and I'm sure it won't be the last either." He titled his head back to look up at the sky, looking at the stars as he walked forward, having yet to put the jacket back on. I'm reminded I'm not the same person I used to be, dear god I changed a lot since my death. He was pulled from his thoughts when the stranger had introduced himself. Another breeze and Benjamin found himself slipping the jacket on again to escape from the unpleasant coldness. "Benjamin and I'm a lich now." Once more, slipping on the fact he died. I should have said I'm a lich, why'd I have to add the world now as if implying I wasn't before?
With a small smirk he answered, "I don't know if that is such a good idea Alec...." He chuckled, glancing towards Alec he answered. "I have a full closet, I'd hate to lose it." He couldn't help but wonder to himself why he just flat out admitted to having a full closet. He hadn't had this much talking to somebody since Abel, no he needed to stop thinking about his husband, he didn't even remember being married to him.
"Ah, yes, I should be okay with this distance." Alec replied with a casual smile. In truth, he could still feel the nausea in his body and a certain heaviness to his limbs, but it was entirely bearable for the time beings. He would just feel odd if he were walking any further back. Alec nodded to himself as Benjamin introduced himself in turn, committing the name to memory, though his thoughts wandered to the mentioned species. He'd never met a Lich, before, though he had read about them. "--Ah, then you must really be struggling with this cold weather! Honestly, don't go putting yourself in difficult situations, when all you need is a few more layers." "A full closet, huh?" the elf repeated, humming in thought. He didn't have all that many clothes, himself. Easily content with simple things, he didn't often go shopping. "Well, that should be okay. You look like you have good taste in clothing, so that old coat would probably stand out among the rest of your closet, hm?" He joked, grinning. "Mmm... I always come out walking like this when I've got something to think out. Seems like you've got a lot on the mind, yourself, Benji." He noted, upon watching the subtle changes in the man's posture.
Benjamin couldn't help but smile slightly, finding the view of the sky enjoyable as he had their conversation. He couldn't help but chuckle when Alec made his comment about wearing warmer clothes. "Such good advice.... however, my goal is to overcome this terrible coldness so that the extra layers aren't required...." He didn't want to be required to wear extra layers, he wanted the option, the freedom to choose what outfit he would be wearing when outside. He made the comment about having a full closet and grinned at Alec's comment in return. "Well you see, this isn't the only type of outfit I have in there.... I am guilty of having old outfits as well. Some of which might surprise you." It wasn't everyday a person ran into a cross dresser. Not that he was ashamed of it or anything, but the person who killed him, they'd know he was a cross dresser and he was trying to avoid sticking out as much as possible.
With a smirk, "But then again, it still might stick out.... are you sure you want to chance it?" He wasn't about to steal his jacket on purpose but, he really didn't want to hold it hostage if Alec wanted it back. He sighed slightly, "Yeah, I never thought I'd see myself in this position before..." He titled his head to look up at the sky again. "My friend had died but I saw him the other day, he doesn't remember me however...." Calling Abel a friend wasn't correct, he was his husband and yet, he couldn't bring himself to admit it in front of Alec at this time. "It just hurt..." He finished, unsure on how much more he would say on the subject.
"Oh, I see..." Alec spoke, tilting his head in thought. Was it possible for a Lich to overcome their weakness to the cold? Surely, it would have to be possible to some extent... Otherwise would just be too sad. "Well, even if it does disappear forever, I think I'd be okay with that. Perhaps it'll reappear for you, when you need it." He replied with a chuckle, shaking his head. He could always get another jacket. "What would be so surprising, in there? Do you have clown costumes? I think that'd be pretty surprising, but honestly, you could probably pull it off." He joked with a cheeky grin. He fell quiet, then, as he listened to the other's lament. He didn't respond immediately, his thoughts wandering with the issue. He'd heard before that amnesia was common with many types of Undead. "I see... That does sound rather upsetting." He agreed, walking just a foot closer to the other. It felt odd, trying to be supportive while so far back. "Nothing scares me quite as much as the idea of being forgotten. Or even worse, forgetting." He continued, his tone soft as he idly brushed his fingers through his hair. "But I think it'll be okay for you and your friend." He concluded, looking back up with a smile. "It's very sad that your friend had died... And very sad that he's forgotten, but... Really, it just means that you now have a chance for a new friendship. I bet you've changed from before you died, no? He's probably changed too. Isn't it only natural that your friendship should change, as well? Rebuild it from scratch if you have to, and I'm sure it'll turn out even better than before."
Benjamin nodded his head, though it would be a hard goal, he wanted to at least try and overcome it. Besides Alec was trying to remain nearby him even though it was likely a burden, he was likely feeling sick from being close to him even if he was walking behind him from a distance. He couldn't help but glance behind him in surprise when Alec mentioned how he'd be okay with his jacket disappearing if it had come to that. He couldn't help but blush when Alec asked what he had in there, nobody but Abel knew about him cross dressing. Not since the day he died, since he had gone off the grid to avoid getting detected. "Well..." He paused for a moment, with a small smile on his face he took a small breath before answering. "I'm a cross dresser, so many formal attire, but none as much of a favorite as my many dresses." He glanced behind himself, peeking to see Alec's facial expression, curious on how he would react before looking forward to keep walking.
Will he freak out, will he be pleased.... would he try and bully me as those kids back in school? Though he wasn't a child anymore, he couldn't help but be somewhat upset over those days, the only difference now is that he was prepared to fight back if it called for it. The subject had been changed over to his friend forgetting about him. "I can see your point, it does sound scary forgetting..." He paused, Forgetting the person you loved.... He thought to himself before he continued speaking, "I hope so..." He felt bad for calling Abel just a friend, the fact of the matter was, he was more than that to him, he was his husband. "I... yeah.... I changed since my death." He admitted, not at all pleased over it. "That sounds easier than it really is meant to be...." He sighed, kept walking, tugging the jacket closer to himself.
It wasn't that he was cold, it was just, pulling the jacket closer was somewhat comforting. He slipped his hand into the collar of his shirt to pull out his necklace, gripping the ring in the palm of his hand. "I just wish I could have protected him..." He commented, looking forward as he tried avoiding the longing tears from falling from his eyes, thankfully he knew how to keep from crying else it would likely startle his company.
Alec had paused at the explanation that the other enjoyed cross dressing, though looking more curious than anything. "Ohh, really?" He spoke, his smile returning as he seemed to examine Benjamin's figure. "...I see, you must look very nice in those clothes, too!" He exclaimed, having apparently been trying to picture it. Sensing the other was nervous with the subject, he himself felt conflicted on whether to continue talking about it. "...Do you think I could pull it off?" He soon asked, chuckling. He was often mistaken for a woman, as it was, so he'd always figured he could. Plus, the clothing he'd grown up wearing had always been so feminine, it probably wouldn't be that different. Taking a step a little too close to the Lich, Alec was again forced to back off a little more. "Mm, things are never as easy as they should be. But... You can achieve most anything with a little persistence." He spoke, nodding. "Sometimes when things are too scary, it helps to simplify the matter. He gets to meet you all over again. Your relationship won't be the same, but it'll definitely be better. So don't worry too much, okay?" He continued, looking up to the sky, himself. At the following lament, Alec fell quiet once more. "...I've learned, lately, that life is often cruel. So many live in agony, or drown in their regrets, simply because they were dealt a bad hand. In comparison to that, doesn't death almost seem kind?" He pondered aloud, his gaze lost in the stars above them. "That feeling you have, wishing you had saved your friend--- that's why your here, now. You may have lacked that first chance, but... You can certainly protect him, now, can't you?"
Benjamin glanced behind himself to see that Alec had a smile on his face, he couldn't help but smile himself as they kept walking. "Why thank you. I do enjoy standing in the mirror holding them up to decide which one I want to wear for the day." He couldn't help but zone out for a brief moment, only being drawn back into the conversation when Alec had asked if he thought if he could pull it off. Benjamin turned around, walking backwards so that he could look over Alec. "Of course you could." He answered, that smile still on his face. Once the subject had changed, he had turned around again so that he could walk a tad bit faster so that it would make Alec feel less uncomfortable. He didn't deserve for him to get sick even though he was good company. He found himself falling silent for a moment, trying to figure out how he would word his next choice of words. "I don't think meeting each other over again is a bad thing... it is just...." He let out a sigh, "My friend.... my dear special friend...." He couldn't bring himself to admit it, husband... his dear husband.
"I don't even know if he really wants to reconnect with me. We happened to meet up because of his job, there wasn't any other reason for searching me out... and yet, I don't know if there is hope for us to gain what we lost." He let go of his wedding ring to look back towards Alec. "Before our deaths, we were married... I don't think I could accept his choice if he fell in love with another person." Well now that he said it, all would be clear on his worry for Abel forgetting him but then again, how would Alec handle finding out that he was married prior? He still considered them married even though Abel didn't remember them, their relationship, their everything.
"Ohh, you think so?" Alec replied, humming in thought once more as he considered it. He typically made sure to wear the least feminine clothing possible, simply because it was a bit awkward, being mistaken for a woman by people intending to flirt. He'd never considered wearing women's clothing on purpose. Still, Benjamin seemed pretty happy talking about it, which was nice. Listening to the other's sad tone, Alec could feel his own heartache. Whoever the person was, it was clear that they had been very important to the man, and still were. He listened quietly for the time, inwardly searching for words that might be able to help his new friend feel better. It was when Benjamin finally admitted that he had been married to the special friend that he looked back up in slight surprise. "Oh... I see. I am sorry for you, that must be painful." He spoke, frowning some. "But with that being the case, I feel it will be even more likely that the two of you will be reunited. His mind may not remember, but I'm sure his heart will." He continued, toying with a lock of his hair as he smiled. "If you fear losing him, then this is no time to be lamenting what may be. You need to search him out, yourself. Make him fall in love with you all over again. The heart does not easily forget... So put your doubts aside for the time being and get your husband back." He asserted with a firm nod. "Did he like your other clothing?"
