abel flynn mccroft tell me reality is better than a dream. general info
appearance There is a mechanical essence to Abel considering a majority of his golem components are visible most of the time. He comes in at a towering height of 6’3”, his body having a muscular appearance due to the shaping of his more metal components. A big portion of his body lacks flesh, his facial constructs being the only feature to have artificially made flesh placed over it; the artificial flesh is fair in colour. The remainder of his body is metal alongside various more electronic components that work towards operating him. The primary colouring of his metal body is black with portions of dark grey most specifically marking his arms, shoulders and the upper section of his chest cavity. The body itself is sculpted to make Abel’s shoulder appear fairly broad and his body generally fit. A majority of the visible metal pieces are platting designed to protect the electronics hidden beneath. It is incredibly durable, even having a layer of waterproofing in order to protect Abel from his worse enemy. These plates have their share of dents and scratch marks, but anything incredibly broken gets replaced or restored. There are a series of small ventilation shafts as a result of his abilities alongside translucent materials that allow for some of his abilities to show. When is accessing the fire portion, these accesses will become a vivid orange, when accessing electricity or redirecting it, they become blue. In his human body, Abel only has a metallic skeleton with a well-toned suit of artificial flesh covering it; this flesh is also fair. This body has condensed metallic sections meant to allow his head/heart core connect to the rest of his body. Despite being mostly mechanical, Abel does still possess hair in order to allow for a more human aspect to his appearance; naturally, complete humanity was never achieved. His hair is messy and blond, rarely being given treatment other than a rough brushing. When it comes to Abel’s eyes, they are unnatural as a result of the small amount of electronic constructs behind them. The sclera of the eye is coloured black, the iris being a ring of bright yellow and the pupil black; this tends to make him more frightening. The yellow ring of his eye does glow subtly in darkness. Facial wise, Abel has not changed incredibly, with his face still being rather sharp in the aspect of shape. The sides of his face lead down into a pointed chin, his face itself being rather thin with cheekbones being set higher. His nose is average sized, the tip being pointed. His ears are pierced, oftentimes only being accessorized with small, silvery studs and nothing else. Clothes commonly cover the torso of his body alongside his legs. Arms are oftentimes left open, Abel going lengths to rip the sleeves off of shirts that go to his wrists; he finds his vents breath easier without the fabric. This oftentimes means that Abel is wearing tank tops to reveal the robotic arms he frequently uses in combat. He prefers loose-fitting clothing that allows for stretching and easy movement, anything too constricting oftentimes receiving rips. Footwear is an optional factor for Abel, but when he does decide to wear some, it is usually combat boots. He always wears a belt around his waist that holds a pair of knives alongside a holster gun for emergency cases. personality
abilities Flamethrower -- Intermediate Within Abel’s arms are the makings of a flamethrower that can be switched into an electricity launcher, switching takes about 20 seconds. The fire itself is fired from the palm of Abel’s hand. Similar to most flamethrowers, Abel does require using flammable fuel in order to access the function, meaning if his fuel gets drained he won’t be able to create flames. He can only create flames at the highest, which is oftentimes limited to 1000°C, sometimes higher, but this does result in more fuel drainage. The flames can only go the way that Abel is aiming them, and since he is a golem he cannot manipulate them. This means that other fire manipulators can use this ability against Abel. Water can easily douse out the flames and should his arm get too wet, Abel may not be able to properly use the flamethrower function unless he spends time heating it up high enough to evaporate the water. Electric Launcher -- Intermediate The second function of Abel’s arms is to launch electricity from the palm of his hand. This launcher can best be described as more finicky than the flamethrower. While Abel can reach high voltages of electricity, shooting it is not always straightforward. The more energy placed into the strike, the more difficult it can me to aim; Abel can not manipulate this either. The electricity can also be redirected by lightning rods should they be close enough. Tasing shots are weaker, tending to be easier to aim than shots designed to do more damage to the other person. Furthermore, the electric launcher runs off the batteries that power a majority of Abel’s body, meaning that using it can come at the risk of eliminating his other abilities. Although, due to the constructs being there, Abel is capable of redirecting electricity and even using it to recharge his body. The charges he gets from this is minor and usually Abel has to have the electricity hit one hand and redirect it out of the other. Enhanced Strength -- Advanced Due to his golem body, Abel is capable of accessing incredible amounts of strength. This means that he can do immense damage to others alongside buildings and various other structures. He is tremendously stronger than that of a regular human being, even going lengths to be able to stop the moment of a speeding train with his strength. He has excellent control over the ability, being capable of ceasing or invoking it at will. The main banes of this power is those who are a tier higher in the strength department, going to a superhuman strength above him; they can overpower him. Furthermore, this ability does rely on his batteries, meaning that without power, Abel is unable to access it. As time goes on, this ability will drain his battery power. Destroying certain sections of his body can also cease the functioning of this ability, specifically the sections that allow his strength to be enhanced. Enhanced Speed -- Intermediate The constructs of Abel’s body allows him to accessed an enhanced version of speed, allowing him to move faster than an average human being. He can react quickly to certain events, run faster and even move his various limbs quicker. Reaction time is linked to senses, meaning that if Abel is unable to see or hear the other person, they can easily attack him without him reacting in time. Speed can also lead to moments of running into walls depending on how fast Abel is going and how much time he needs to decelerate; making this ability sometimes difficult to use in close-quarter situations. Similar to his strength, Abel needs to use power from his battery in order to access his enhanced speed, meaning no battery power can make it unusable. This ability does drain battery and destroying certain sections of Abel’s body can make it more difficult to use. Enhanced Eyesight -- Natural Abel is capable of accessing numerous forms of sight, including infrared, night vision, blood-flow vision and x-ray. His sight is better than that of an average human being, allowing for him to see things better, allowing for more clarity. Infrared allows for him to see temperatures, but can be distorted by other extreme temperatures. Night vision allows for him to see in absolute darkness, however, it fails in artificial. Blood-flow vision allows for him to see the blood flow of a living beings. X-ray allows for him to see through walls, although, his field of sight does get shorter while he is using this ability. Unlike a majority of his abilities, his eyesight runs solely off of the heartcore placed in his head, allowing for him to use it no matter the circumstances. Bright, strobing lights can easily disorient him as a result of his enhanced vision. Pain Suppression -- Natural Being mostly a machine makes is immensely difficult to actually cause pain to Abel. You can damage and dent his armor, but that section does not make him feel immense pain. Once the armor is broken through is when Abel starts to feel slight pangs of pain, but this remains suppressed. Even ripping off one of Abel’s arms barely results in the man flinching from the pain being inflicted. Although, damages to the head alongside melting does inflict more pain than merely pounding away at Abel. While his heartcore is remains well-plated, since the only way to truly kill him is by destroying it, it can suffer minor damages that take time to heal. When the heartcore gets damaged, Abel feels an immense pain that can stun him. Melting becomes a more agonizing spurt of pain since the heat alongside destruction of his body would hurt immensely. Enhanced Durability -- Natural Being practically a fighting machine, Abel has numerous armor plates covering his body. These plates act as a waterproofing for Abel, and can take an immense amount of blows before being damaged incredibly. Essentially, he is designed to take a physical beating which means usually just punching away at Abel will not due much damage. He can take about two-three blows from a brute before his plates start giving away. While Abel is durable against physical hits, he remains weaker against more magic based attacks. This means magic will inflict more damage and break through the plating. Furthermore, the armor is removable for the sake of repairs, which means a fast enough person can remove the armor which would leave Abel vulnerable to most attacks. Temperature Resilience -- Natural Due to the heating and ventilation programs, this does mean that Abel does have some temperature resistance. The metal used for his body is rather fire resistant, although, can be melted at extremely high temperatures. Cold is mostly handled by heating channels, making it harder for frost to claim Abel’s joints during winter. Unfortunately, this system runs off of battery power which means if his battery power gets too low or runs out, he can easily be frozen. Abel is vulnerable to extreme temperatures still, the electronic portions of his body sometimes having difficult functioning in extremely cold or warm temperatures. He is more resilient to heat than cold. Electronic Power Drain -- Intermediate In desperate situations, Abel can drain power from electronics to recharge his battery. This makes the electronic completely lose power and short-circuit. Despite this ability, Abel can not drain from power plants and houses or else the sudden receival of vast amounts of power will result in an explosion. This limits him to items that have lower power yields, the highest he can take from being a large truck and smaller electric train (a few freights). The transfer of electricity becomes lower as it is given to Abel, making it more of a small boost than anything significant. Weaknesses & Concerns Water: When it comes to water, Abel would be quick to state it is his worst enemy. Those capable of manipulate water can cut through his armor if they make the water thin enough. Furthermore, his body runs mostly off of electricity, meaning that he can be overflowed with water and incapacitated as a result. This does take enough water to completely immerse him for at least 10 seconds, but nonetheless is still an issue. While people do require breaking through the waterproof armor, they can easily defeat him afterwards. Fire: Flames that reach incredibly high temperatures can melt the armor plates. While the process would be slow and it does take intense flames, this is incredibly painful to Abel and can result in certain sections of his body not functioning. Technopathy: A majority of his body is a powerhouse of technology, which means a skilled technopath can control Abel. While this does take a lot of effort, a skilled technopath is capable of even making certain abilities activate without Abel’s permission. Metal Manipulation: A good portion of Abel’s body is covered in metal, which means people capable of manipulating it can cause problems. Once again, this takes a lot of effort since the metal is, in a way, controlled by Abel’s heartcore, but nonetheless can allow for him to be moved like a puppet or destroyed. Battery: With most of Abel’s abilities running off, it means that running out can easily make him have difficulty. Those who can drain energy from technology can drain Abel’s battery if they have enough power. Depending on usage, Abel’s battery can last roughly a week before requiring a full charge. Maintenance: Maintaining Abel's body is easier than most, but oftentimes when sections are completely destroyed, it can take 2-3 weeks to rebuild, replace or fix. In this time, they move Abel to his more human body which is more vulnerable to attack. When the entire body is destroyed, it can take a month or two depending on the circumstances and situation. Human Body: This body is more fleshy which a mechanical skeleton. In this body, Abel can only truly access his enhanced strength, speed and durability, but to a lesser degree than in his mechanical one. backstory The McCroft family was always a quiet group that lived within the city of Lorsette. Carter McCroft was a meek man, finding it difficult to converse with people and oftentimes landing himself in compromising positions. He was spineless, unable to state no to anybody, which resulted in him marrying Victoria, a vicious and stubborn woman. Ultimately, the ideals between the parents left people questioning of the relationship, and rightfully so. They bickered plenty, Victoria constantly winning the arguments due to the incredibly meek attitude Carter. Eventually, Victoria persuaded Carter into having children with her, stating that it would fix the relationship. Naturally, Carter agreed due to his shyness which brought forth the birth of their only son, Abel. In the beginner, Abel was a short child, even being underweight upon birth which always brought concerns to the family. This was not befitting for Victoria’s ideals, the woman was expecting perfection and that raising a child would be easy. After a few nights of being forced to stay up late, Victoria got bored of Abel, insisting to Carter that the child had to go. While a majority of the time Abel’s father was a meek man, he still had a benevolence in his heart and quietly rebuked against the decision. This infuriated Victoria, the pair arguing and Carter taking a portion of ridicule. That night Victoria left, and Abel’s father found a distaste for his mother. At a young age, Abel became familiar with some of the woes of court, but never understood them. The legal battle for his custody was long, Victoria only desiring it to shatter his father. While his grandparents assisted, oftentimes caring for the child or helping with the legal efforts when Abel needed time with his father. Due to this, Carter became Abel’s only parental figure, making him unfamiliar with the concepts of mothers. There was an air of stress in the household during Abel’s vulnerable years, resulting in the young boy being quiet or entertaining himself with the toys scattered throughout the years. It made Abel incredibly shy, the young boy oftentimes hiding when it came to social interactions. The stress made it difficult for Carter to push Abel socially and furthermore the man was an enabler. This made school an extreme stress for the young child, his elementary years being difficult as his teachers attempted to push him, except, Abel was too shy. As the child developed and grew, his family became free from the legal bindings and he remained in the custody of his father. Slowly, Abel became defined as a stereotypical nerd, finding books, video games and school interesting. Unfortunately, his shyness made him a victim of bullying from a young age. He was a vulnerable kid without a friend in the world, an easy victim to the malicious intents, his incredible shortness not assisting matters. There were always moments where bullies would steal something, holding it high above Abel who would struggle to try and reach due to his height. He was pushed, teased, the bullies oftentimes invoking his name to bother him further. Life was ultimately cruel for the young boy who oftentimes found himself trying to hide. He was afraid to tell his family and teaches after taking care of himself during his younger years. There had to be a way to handle it alone, there always was. The bullying left Abel feeling insecure, trapped, lonely and sorrowful, even going lengths to make him want to runaway to avoid it. He felt suffocated by the emotions, remaining uncertain about the incredible wonders of life that people mentioned. He remained alone for several years, but things somewhat changed with sixth grade rolled in. Perhaps it was his shy nature, but Abel had never noticed the kid before he had walked through the school in girl’s clothing. Similar to the rest of the students, it caught the young child’s eye as he watched the person pass. The steady observation continued, Abel flinching when he watched his own tormentors attack him like the vicious sharks they were. Initially, Abel was clueless on how to tackle the situation, but his sympathises with the boy resulted in him approaching. Judging somebody over clothing choice seemed petty to Abel, thus he gradually began befriending the boy. This mysterious boy who was named Benjamin shortly transformed into a miracle in Abel’s life. No longer were those lonely feelings lurking and for once, he found himself desiring to push socialism, but only with Ben. For once, there was somebody who never took advantage of his vulnerability, which brought an unfamiliar happiness to Abel’s life that he enjoyed. As years progressed, Abel began clinging to Ben, rarely separating from the boy as a result of his immense shyness. A majority of his classmates remained difficult to speak to, making Abel only comfortable socially around Ben. Yet, there was always tones of anxiety whenever he spoke to Ben, those concerns that he could possibly infuriated the most significant person in his life. Ever since sixth grade, Abel felt that Ben was the only person who was consistently around for him while his grandparents and father struggled to provide that luxury. Shortly around the age of 14, Abel began developing a crush on his close friend. It was proven by those lingering gazes and constant anxieties whenever Ben would speak to another individual; he feared losing his friend and secret crush. Despite his shyness, Abel would go to lengths to hug Ben since he both enjoyed it and desired for nobody to take him away. He supposed during those days, he was always self-conscious and anxious with some possibilities of having an anxiety disorder. While he cared deeply about his Ben, there were always numerous concepts on his mind, mostly revolving around his mother. Childhood had become accustomed to the notion of her no longer being around, but despite his inquiries, Abel’s father remained reluctant to provide the desired information. All he heard was those bits of information about his mother being horrible for leaving them and vague hints to her attitude, but it never cased Abel’s curiosity. When Abel was 16, he entered the tenth grade and was still clinging to his precious Ben, holding onto the developed feelings. They had mostly isolated themselves from the other students, Abel only desiring Ben’s attention. He cared about his friend, even constantly fantasizing over the idea of dating his crush. Although, he had never expected his dreams to come true during his sophomore year. The instant Ben confessed his feelings, Abel felt his heart beating wildly and immediately launched into dating the man he cared about. Being around Ben in a more romantic sense brought wonder to Abel’s life considering he could display the feelings he harbored more openly to the person he cared about. Smiles, laughter, affection, it was everything the boy would dream it would have been falling into the deep end of love. Everything appeared perfect, and with graduation rapidly approaching, his relationship with Ben was flourishing alongside the curiosities towards his mother. Months were spent begging his father and grandparents for some information about the mysterious Victoria, but it was always refused. Their trust in Victoria was nonexistent, thus the curious Abel was provided with the craved information, resulting in a growing fascination and necessity for investigation. He began looking through some of the photo albums and logbooks of the house, but could rarely discover more than the occasional picture of him when he was a child being held by his mother; things only kept because his family loved him. The investigations was interrupted when he left with his boyfriend to Las Vegas since their high school years were coming to a close. Normally, Abel was not much of a drinker, finding the bitter taste of alcohol and its effects disconcerting, although, Ben managed to convince him. He wanted to enjoy the entire evening with his boyfriend, but one drink led to another, then another and proceeded until Abel was practically wasted from the booze. For a majority of the night he was wobbly, clinging to Ben and having the slightest hints more boldness as a result of the alcohol. Gradually, alcohol consumption led to rushed decision making and the following morning, Abel woke with a nasty hangover and a wedding ring around his finger. During their drinking, Ben had proposed to which Abel accepted and they had been wedded, which was proven by a shotty wedding video. While being rather surprised, Abel had no qualms about suddenly being married Ben, finding the concept rather enjoyable. Their wedding in Las Vegas was kept a secret, Ben and Abel informing people that they merely got engaged. A new wedding was done, allowing for friends and family to attend and Abel was incredibly happy with his husband. This was a dream come true, but there was someone missing… Mother was still an unknown factor, Abel still requiring to search her out. Over two years, Abel researched into finding his mother, not telling his husband in case the woman was indeed a horrible woman. After he made the proper discoveries, Abel got everything organized, even slipping a sleeping pill into his husband’s drink during the evening to make certain he would remain asleep. While Abel loved Ben immensely, he needed to find his mother, the woman who was a mystery to him. A note was left, words scrawled over stating the vague intention; My dear, Ben. I know you will be upset when you wake up and I am not there… I am sorry, I will come back, I promise. I love you. - Abel. Despite being immensely happy, Abel left, his curiosity drawing him away from the most significant person in his life. Essentially, the young boy fell off the earth, keeping himself hidden while he searched for the woman who gave birth to him. Unfortunately, there was a grave error in searching for Victoria since she was still bitter from her marriage with Carter, even keeping the surname solely to display that he was married to the spineless man. In a small town in Quebec was where Abel found his mother, his hesitancy keeping him from her door for several days. Slowly, courage was rounded, the young man walking up the concrete steps and knocking on the white wooden door. The sounds of steps reverberated inside, his mother opening the door and noticing the familiar traits of Carter and herself. An explanation was given, Victoria inviting her son in by using a mask of sweetness. She deceived him, ultimately knocking the young man out and locking him in the basement. Inside his basement cell, Abel was well taken care of, Victoria providing all the essentials and speaking to him constantly. She learned plenty, like her son was a coward like Carter, married to man name Ben, oftentimes picked on in school and various other tidbits. Victoria hated the factors, desiring to change her son for what she defined as the better, which resulted in the construction of a weaponized body. She had intentions to make her son a weapon, a fighting machine to “prove” that her style of raising a child was better than Carter’s pathetic one. Thus, Abel was locked away from months while the body was built, Victoria wanting to destroy her former husband by making Abel into something he would fear. The husband? While he was just collateral damage as far as she was concerned. After an entire year of being locked away and begging to see his precious Ben again, Abel was losing hope. Every evening he would cry himself to sleep, regretting leaving the place that had made him happy for so many years. Each time he would ask to leave, Victoria bitterly refused which left Abel feeling trapped. There was echoes through the basement, Victoria heading downstairs to which Abel stared, planning to convince his mother to allow him to leave again. His voice was muted the instant he witnessed the large knife in her hands and the threatening demeanor on his mother’s face. Sound broke free in a scream when the knife was aimed, puncturing delicate flesh as Abel was repeatedly stabbed until finally life faded from his eyes. People were always delicate, and their memories fragile… ---- ✿ ---- wake up… did all those precious things leave you? do you even remember your own voice? was death a harsh reality, or is being brought back to the living world worse? your memories… they are shattered, all scattered in fragments while others have been destroyed. all those terrible days where your tormentors invoked your name, when they teased you, hit you, bullied you, is that all you remember? to remember only the horrible will transform you into a bitter shell, leaving you cynical and angry… infuriated by the world, by the way you in particular were treated. your memories were shattered and the happiness connected to them destroyed. ---- ✿ ---- There were only fragments of the memory that Abel once held when he woke in his new body. Flesh was replaced with metal, his body changing immensely from the once 5’3” man who was thin to a well-toned 6’3” mechanized one. Victoria was there, her words sweet as she began telling her son deceptions, like how he had been in an accident and has become this. Being naive from his fragmented memories, Abel believed her and allowed Victoria to mold him into her shape. Everything was perfect for the bitter woman, Victoria having stolen was wedding ring, hiding it away in case it meddled with her Abel; sometimes things were best left for later. Over the course of a year, Abel lived in Quebec with his mother, Victoria training him to be a soldier of sorts. Gradually, Abel adopted some traits from Victoria, resulting in him becoming a hot-headed and impulsive man. Although, Abel will never forget when he began feeling a strange series of pains erupt through his body, almost as though he was sensing torture. This confused Victoria, resulting in her closely watching her son. The day the pains ended, there was an incredible feeling of lonesomeness that Abel was unable to understand; why did he feel so lonely? Over the course of months, the young golem found himself unable to understand why he was feeling lonesome. When Victoria deemed her creation ready, they moved to Lorsette where she convinced him to join the Hallow Order, a group of bounty hunters. During his time in the Hallow Order, Abel began discovering how much he loved danger, going lengths to take dangerous missions. Whenever he would get harmed, he would pick himself back up and keep going despite the pain. Over the course of about 4 years, Abel worked his way up the rungs of the Hallow Order, finding himself content around them since they satisfy his need for danger alongside his greed. Although, during one mission he went out to take somebody in, his body armed and prepared for combat, only to discover a man wearing a claiming to be his husband. misc - Likes: Upgrades, money, working, weapons, fighting, action, sports, exercise, sleeveless hoodies, warm days, sunsets, accomplishing missions, music, singing, becoming stronger, sparring, flamethrowers, the Hallow Order, danger - Dislikes: Resting, silence, water, wet weather, being incapacitated, errors, malfunctions, running out of fuel, arrogance, condescending attitudes, getting less money, injury leave, suspensions from work, flashing lights, books, boring activities, staying still, being called a monster - Fears: Becoming obsolete/worthless, water, insects, death - He hates being called Abel, thus he insists that people refer to him as Flynn.
