lachlan fraiser tell me reality is better than a dream. general info
appearance Skinny is the best definition given to Lachlan’s body as a result of the abuse he went through prior to death. A majority of his body fat has returned since he has eaten in desperate hope of at least appearing reasonable. While his ribs no longer show, his body possesses a flat stomach and little muscle tone. The amount of muscles that Lachlan does have is lower than average for a male, making him easily to overpower. His limbs are lanky and viewed a delicate with the amount of skinness they possess. Height wise, Lachlan is a little below average at a 5’7”; this combined with his skinny appearance makes him look smaller than the average male. His complexion is pale due to days spent indoors researching while little time is taken towards being outside in sunlight. Thin, pinkish marks adorn his skin, all signs of the abuse he faced in captivity in his former home. Wider marks are displayed across his back, which were the marks created from receiving the belt on numerous occasions, these are a paler white His wrists have paler colouring, the scaring being the faintest on his body and closest to his pale skin tone. The remaining scars are a variety of sigils and elaborate lines that have a colouring that is more pink. These were used in the ritual to transform him into a reaper and remain the scars he is most sensitive about. They cover his chest and abdomen, some portions touching his sides. When it comes to Lachlan’s face, it has a surprising beautiful sense of slenderness to it. He possesses higher cheekbones that trail down to a slightly pointed chin. The flesh here has been untouched, leaving it void of any obsessive scaring unlike the remainder of his body. His blond hair is oftentimes while maintained, rarely possessing mess with the exceptions of days where he feels to low attempt tidying it or is simply distracted with work. A black headband is worn constantly to help give a cleaner appearance to his cream blond hair. His eyes possess a simple oval shape, the colouring being a bright hazel. It is noted that Lachlan rarely smiles, most tending to have a plastic appearance to them instead of genuine intent. Clothing is a variety for Lachlan considering his self-conscious attitude makes is difficult for him to say he looks good enough at times. Despite not intending to openly display his sexuality, Lachlan will still attempt to look pleasant as instinct to get men to at least glance there way. This has resulted in Lachlan desiring variety opposed to a single type of clothing. He will frequently switch between casual, formal or even other varieties of clothing. He does, however, avoid skimpy pieces due to his sensitivity revolving around his scars and lack of muscles mass. He is more prone to clothes with long sleeves, but has been known to drift from that. There is constantly a temperature regulation bracelet around his left wrist to avoid overheating or freezing. personality
abilities Necromancy --- Advanced The possibly offensive implications that the ability provided was the reason for Lachlan training it. There had to be something used to defend himself in certain situation when his emotions were preventing proper functioning of his seancing. He is capable of controlling the corpses of dead creatures, making for a variety of capabilities, however, the creature does not possess their abilities. This has allowed him to attack people by using even the smallest of animals, although, insects tend to merely pose a distraction for escape. When his energy is at its best, Lachlan can control the corpses of five humans extremely well. This has given him an incredible influence in the world of necromancy. Animals, specifically smaller ones, allow for more controlled vessels for attacking possible enemies he meets during work. Various diseases that the body may have contracted can be administered to the victim if they can be delayed via bites, scratches or general contact. Naturally, this ability does have drawbacks to it. The more corpses under his control or the more complex movements can drain Lachlan’s energy faster. Furthermore, the decay of the body itself stays, which oftentimes results in a fragility in the creatures that are under his control. The more decayed the body is, the more difficulty that Lachlan can possess attempting attempting to control it. This can work as a double-edged sword and allow for flexibility, but this can be at the risk of the creature losing a limb. Fear Inducement --- Intermediate Inducing fear in others is oftentimes limited to being for stunning purposes. In moments of panic, Lachlan will activate this ability in an attempt to delay the opposition. This rarely gets used as an interrogation tactic, but depending on the situation, Lachlan may also activate the ability for information. The lengths that Lachlan can reach in this ability is not very severe, mostly being limited to causing mild heart palpitations. In his case, Lachlan’s ability can not reach the degree of fear that diagnosed phobias can give somebody; he can’t do anything detrimental to another person’s life as a result of the fear. Control is the frequent questionable factor of this ability since it is prone to automatic activations. This usually occurs when Lachlan gets incredibly anxious or panicked over something since the ability has been frequently used while those emotions have been present which has caused people to hesitate in calming him or simply not attempt. Soul Manipulation (minor) --- Intermediate Oftentimes, this ability is used in emergency situations since the effects are not permanent, although, it occasionally gets used to make somebody feel more obliged share information. This ability allows Lachlan to temporary change moral standings, which has saved him from meeting death’s axe a second time. The more strong-willed are less susceptible to the abilities effects alongside the extremely determined at times, but it can cause hesitation at times. Those who are determined to do crimes can sometimes weaken the effects of the ability. This ability does require physical contact with the other person for Lachlan to invoke it. Seance --- Advanced Due to the numerous implications it possessed to researching crimes, Lachlan began training his seancing ability immensely. There have been multiple occasions where seancing the correct spirit has assisted in the solving of a crime. As a result of this, Lachlan can easily summon spirits to speak with him, even the more strong-willed finding difficulty resisting his call. Naturally, the more strong-willed require more energy to summon so Lachlan can speak with them as required. Summoning for the sole purpose of conversing takes the least amount of energy and depending on the attachment that Lachlan has to the spirit, can allow him to accomplish the task in numerous locations. The more a spirit favors him, the higher probability that they will answer him in other locations, although, this does require an immense amount of focus to accomplish. Due to his capabilities in seancing, he can summon spirits to assist him in fighting. The spirits do not possess any weapons or powers from when they died, but can attack other people if Lachlan wills it. This remains one of the reasons why he attempts to get closer to the spirits who favor him is for assistance when required. Summoning them for more fighting-based purposes takes a lot more energy, especially when the number of summoned spirits exceeds 3. Below 3, Lachlan can last a maximum of an hour. He can reach a maximum of summoning 10 spirits, but the time duration lowers to a staggering 20 minutes. If Lachlan gets knocked out, the spirits disappear as a result of him being the energy supplier in the situation. The main weaknesses of this ability remains Lachlan’s emotional state. When under emotional duress, he finds himself unable to summon the spirits since his will tends to weaker during these moments. On days where his depression is affecting him heavily, it becomes hopeless to summon the assistance of spirits. Periods of exhaustion can make summoning difficult, sometimes only limiting him to only communication based gates. Self-sustenance --- Natural Due to constantly abusing the ability alongside his own body, Lachlan’s self-sustenance does not work to full capacity. While energy sources such as food remain unrequired, his body still requires energy retrieval or rest. This means that sleep is necessity at times to give Lachlan’s reaper body the chance to replenish energy without being pushed further by its master. Unfortunately, sleeping periods remain few, having extensive time periods between them which can negatively affect Lachlan by making him groggy or run the risk of fainting. Furthermore, this constant abuse has made his body more susceptible to illness which should be a rarity from both his self-sustenance and immortality abilities. Other Naturals: Healing Factor (minor), Soul Sensory, Immortality backstory Trigger Warning: Physical/Mental Abuse, Neglect, Homophobia, Violence, Murder, Torture When Lachlan was born, he became the youngest of 5 siblings, 2 boys and 3 girls. Originally, Lachlan lived in Omaha, Nebraska in a rather large home. His parents were rather strict and religious family who followed the Bible’s exact words. It was their significant gospel, breaking it was viewed as the ultimate sin. Abnormal behaviour itself was heavily disliked, earning moments of shunning and neglect from other family members. The more peculiar the individual acted, the worse their treatment would become. There was never truly a moment where Lachlan felt properly treated in the household. He was the product of an affair that the mother disguised as a rape, resulting in him being viewed as horrible for being the man’s offspring. From the beginning his mother shunned him, he was merely a reminder of the atrocity she committed. His presence became something impure, his mother going lengths to believe it tainted her further. Due to this, Lachlan was treated beyond differently from the rest of his family. Childhood was void of sibling interaction, his older brothers and sisters being mostly disinterested in him. They would ignore him, at times pretending he did not exist. This would result in them commonly pushing him out of the way, careless towards the concept of injury befalling the young boy. Whenever he got injured, his parents would merely tend to him, but not provide the comforting attention the boy required. The actions always remained unpunished, Lachlan retreating to his tiny bedroom to cry. A majority of the time, he felt there was no love within the household considering he was never provided it. Accomplishments were never praised and breaking rules was always met with harsh punishment. During these times where rules were broken, he would become familiarized with yelling and rather abusive means of punishment. There were times he was hit with a belt, demanded to stand on his tiptoes above tacks, locked in a dark closet for hours or hanged from high locations by his wrists. On rare occasions, they would hit him while yelling horrible things at the young child. Tears filled his youthful years, the child constantly craving escape from the torment of his household. For the most part, Lachlan was miserable in his current home, resulting in him being prone to attempting to escape around the young age of 5, although, he was always brought back. Every runaway would make the abuse worse as he would be submitted to beatings, his older siblings getting the privilege to indulge in the event. A majority of the time he was isolated, oftentimes being forced to eat meals in his room. It made the delicate years of life hellish and depressing, which made it immensely difficult for him to make friends. When school began, there was still no release from the harsh torment the young boy would face. Prior to even arriving in the building of education, his older siblings had weaved a tight web of rumors to make him undesirable as a friend. They would insist that he was prone to fits of violence, sometimes even “informing” the younger kids that he tortured bugs and was planning to move onto animals. The image they painted was of a future serial killer which easily created vivid imagery in the minds of his classmates and teachers. School years were plagued with avoidance, his teachers even approaching him in cautious manners because they feared those lies his siblings told. The school believed him to be a the spawn of something horrible instead of a little boy who only desired company. Constantly, he would feel lonesome, but the remedy remained out of reach. Inside the classroom were his only brief chances of interacting with his classmates during projects, but even those were slim. The group who was stuck with him was all work no play considering the teachers would constantly hover around them out of concern. Despite the lack of violent incidents, everybody still believed the lies. There was a sense of isolation in the verdict for Lachlan as he shortly discovered that despite the numerous individuals in the room, he felt alone. Nobody stood beside him, nor would he receive defence for false judgement, he was simply alone. The verdict was accepted at some point, taken as nature. It left the young boy believing that this confinement to loneliness was his destiny, a punishment for an unknown sin. As time progressed, Lachlan grew aloof and blunt as a result of lacking social interaction. While most children would rush off to find their friends, Lachlan always remained alone. It caused him to officially be viewed as the weird kid, children oftentimes stating that “he doesn't play right!” as though there was a constant formula to playtime. Instead of concerning himself with others, the boy spent boring hours to himself until the age of 7. When the following grade arrived, a new teacher was in school and despite the warnings his siblings and classmates bestowed, he began interacting with Lachlan. At first, it remained as small talk which was already unfamiliar with the young blond. It never truly growed, but it left Lachlan fascinated in the strange teacher. Instead of spending time outside, he would request to remain in the room for an extra learning class which expanded his intellect immensely. Some moments were spent listening to an extended lecture from the teacher while others featured reading sessions featured around morals. Laws, justice it was all discovered in these independent learning sessions that the young boy would attend. Although, Lachlan never allowed the teacher to get too close considering that the following year he change grades; he was meant to be alone. With the expansion of his intellect surged forth the intense ambitions to succeed in all his classes. He became an unfavorable group partner due to his critical and blunt behavior alongside the determination to create advanced projects. During moments where students would hastily run to pick partners, Lachlan would always remain still until the teacher arrived to speak with him. Nobody desired to work with him, his partners oftentimes complaining to the teacher. Eventually, Lachlan was placed into a new type of isolation where the teachers gave up attempting to get him to lower his standards and work kindly with his group. It allowed Lachlan’s extreme attention to detail, ambition and determination to flourish, making him renown for incredible projects accomplished by a single person. The grades he received were higher than his siblings, but still his parents never provided praise. It was not long until the young boy allowed his siblings to beat him home easily by taking extended routes or remaining at the school longer in order to arrive home later. Each time he arrived home, he would slip through the house similar to a ghost, arriving to his room where he would stay. It was simple, focusing on projects and school work saved him from the immense stress and sorrow of his loneliness; being a workaholic was seen as a saviour. By age 10, Lachlan was diagnosed with insomnia since his ambitious determination he possessed would keep him up for hours working on projects, reading or extra credit assignments. Intellect was the single trait that would provide him those few moments of glory and attention, which the child craved. Accomplishing the tasks to the highest degree also provided a distraction from the constant neglect of his household. Little was done about the diagnosage, his parents never bothering to make certain the child was slumbering instead of staying awake long past bedtime. Why would they begin caring now? Thus, the young boy continued abusing his own body and would only sleep on occasion. Ultimately, Lachlan began struggling with gym class because of the manner he treated himself which caused the physical education teachers to attempt to remedy the situation. The boy’s poor physical health, which resulted in frequent trips to the nurse instead of to the gym. These sessions were designed to teach him the importance of caring for himself, but they always met deaf ears. Days progressed, the first fainting incident occurring when the young boy was walking down the hallway. The sudden dizziness overtook him, everything going black before he woke to teachers informing him to remain unmoving. After he seemed sturdy, he was taken to the nurse where his parents were called to take him home. Their faces were plastic like people on TV shows when his parents were forced to arrive at the school to speak with the nurse. They were actors, displaying feigned affection and worry for their son. After the discussion, Lachlan was taken home where he was scolded for being a burden to the family; for having health related issues. They informed him about how weak and pathetic he was for requiring dedicated attention. Naturally, this was upsetting to Lachlan and once the “lecture” was completed, he began hiding in his room again. Without the affection of his parents after the incident, Lachlan fell into the depths of his lonesomeness. Thoughts swirled, reminding him how this was merely destiny. They progressed, becoming a new form a tormentor that insisted that affection was wasted on him. There were moments where he believed himself to be a burden, a nobody; merely a husk attempting to be a person. Worthless, unlovable, pathetic, weak, lonesome transformed into common words used to describe himself at his young, vulnerable age. The isolation was saddening, resulting in harsh self-loathing and continued to points where Lachlan was heavily self-critical. Tiny mistakes made him nervous, resulting in a self-consciousness beginning. Around the age of 12 was when Lachlan steadily began gaining responsibility for himself, oftentimes refusing help unless absolutely necessary. The plan was simple, to escape the control of his parents the instant he became 18. The young boy worked towards getting jobs that required little to no physical activity due to his poor physical health. As time proceeded, he started taking almost any jobs that he could find and saving a majority of the money with the intent of leaving come the future. Freedom was a craving, and it began increasing heavily around when puberty hit. There was a peculiar sense of awkwardness that afflicted him whenever he was close or, on rare occasion, interacting with him. While the opposite genders flirted with one another, Lachlan stood alone and confused. Unlike all the other males in his class, he could never understand the attraction that women held. Their appearance was extremely unattractive to Lachlan, and as time progressed he began comprehending the reason behind it. The solution was simple, he found men to be attractive, which brought the conclusion of him being homosexual. Although, he was one of few homosexual students inside the school which appeared to be a death wish in some cases. The first incident that revolved around his class resulted in one of the openly homosexual students being tortured by a group of bullies. It had been a meager walk to class when Lachlan heard the muffled screams from the students. The bullies had knives, waving them around menacingly at the young boy. Punches and kicks were constantly being thrown alongside torturous words insisting that everything about it was morally wrong; it broke the exact words of their gospel. Only for a few moments Lachlan watched in surprising, listening, insisting that it would end, but by two minutes it was still continuing. Those looks of malicious torture towards an innocent boy resulted in Lachlan accomplishing a task that he was uncertain about. The fire alarm lever was above his head, the boy reaching up and yanking it down. The bells began ringing loudly, the blond standing there for moments too long as the boys noticed him, the interrupter to the “necessary” torture. After a mere seconds, it was a short chase due to Lachlan’s weak physical state. He was slammed against the wall, the bullies bringing the knife close to his neck and threatening to end it. Initially, Lachlan thought his heroic act would bring his death, but fortune was in his favor. The teachers found them, screaming when they say the knife close to Lachlan’s throat. The bullies had pulled away, insisting that he had gone violent on them, but the security cameras proved them wrong. Despite the actions, Lachlan still remained somebody ignored in the school. The boy he saved was taken out of the school because his parents feared him getting injured or killed. It was the correct action considering there were people who pitied the bullies, those who considered it the right action in the name of their god. When his parents were called about the incidents and brought to once again take their son home, Lachlan was scolded for the actions he took. They stated that homosexuality was vile, unholy and wrong which stung the young boy. His homophobic parents were lecturing their gay son about how a portion of himself was guilty of the “most disgusting” action. Ultimately, Lachlan found himself hiding his sexuality from the world, believing that should anybody discover his attraction towards men, he would hated and possibly killed for it. Revealing his desires for the same gender was never planned; he was meant to be alone forever. Lonesomeness was after all the verdict handed down to him ever since his birth. Years progressed, the young boy working hard to earn enough money to escape the haunting grasp of his parents. Witnessing the crimes that occurred in his school sparked a requirement for justice, thus, with his immense intelligence he worked towards gaining numerous scholarships. He worked towards getting into a school in Newfoundland, Canada in the city of Lorsette, which was successful. Criminology alongside various other courses aimed towards assisting him to become an investigator were taken; there was also consideration to his poor physical health. There were no qualms or farewells when Lachlan left home, finally feeling the breath of freedom that he had heavily craved. As planned at the mere age of 12, he had managed to move out by the age of 18 to live in the student housing. While working on his studies, Lachlan began working towards getting papers arranged for his citizenship in order to stay in Canada, away from his family. The process was tedious, but gradually he was getting accepted into the country. After two years of education, Lachlan began doing his own personal investigations of crime scenes and areas frequented to crimes due to an outstanding curiosity. A majority of time, there were very few incidents of the young man finding himself in harm’s way. The 20 year old intellect found himself capable of observing the various scenes, some even being featured around terror and assembly based attacks. Eventually, this ended bringing the young man into a troublesome situation. A late night walk alone was bound to end horribly, Lachlan being pulled into an alleyway and knocked out by a group of masked individuals. Everything was blur of movement at first, Lachlan waking up in a dark room restrained, gagged and intoxicated with some sort of drug. He felt dizzy, unable to focus properly while he sat in the foreboding silence of the dark room. There were noises, the scuffling of feet on a hard floor alongside the hushed voices of people conversing in a whisper. Faces were hidden, the young man finding incredible difficulty remembering the detailing of the masks that haunted him, scrutinizing him while they mumbled to one another. Fear coursed through Lachlan’s veins, heightening as the drugs wore off. Once the effects began diminishing, he struggled against his bindings, discovering that it was impossible to free himself. During the course of his unconsciousness, he was beaten and abused possibly for their own twisted enjoyment. The knives arrived after that, thin and covered in a substance that burned the freshly inflicted wounds to his delicate flesh. Immediately, he screamed and squirmed, but the fellons were prepared and injected a substance in his veins. The ability to resist receded as his struggling was decreased to a meager twitching or feeble movements. The effects of the drugs failed to numb the immense pain, Lachlan unable to even scream while the masked individuals carved symbols and markings onto his skin. Every second, Lachlan desired the opportunity to scream, but it was never granted. Day progressed, the young man never receiving decent food and only being given a meager amount of to avoid dehydration. The markings were constantly re-opened, never being able to fully heal from the afflictions of his tormentors. Days passed, the young growing thinner as time continued until finally the day arrived when he was blindfolded and forced to kneel. Unfamiliar words were muttered, the variety of drugs making it difficult for him to concentrated on what was being spoken. There was singular, sharp pain and a horrible sensation until everything faded. After a few days, Lachlan’s body was discovered in a rundown warehouse in the outskirts of Lorsette, his murderers nowhere insight and no leads being discovered. There was a numbing darkness, everything feeling like he had woken from a deep slumber. The world around him was a monotone canvas as he laid on the cold floor. Initially, his body refused to move as his mind attempted to focus on the world around him. A voice was speaking, foreign, but still possessing an oddly chilling edge. Eventually, he was capable of sitting up in the greyscale room where a single individual remained. The appearance was familiar to the numerous books that revolved around him, the tales told by the numerous undead species that returned from the realm. Gradually, the young man arrived to the conclusion of being in the realm of Purgatory, the realm that belonged to this individual. Thanatos, in his godly glory had eyes staring at him while he moved closer. The words he spoke, invoking the young man’s name as he explained the situation. The explanation was simple, he was cursed, bound to return to the ugly world he was familiar with as a reaper. It was a chilling verdict, the man pleading to remain in death’s embrace opposed to facing the horrors that plagued his life on earth. Unfortunately, the pieces were set in place and his soul was removed from Purgatory and returned to his body. The cold table that the body was placed on with plans for autopsy was where Lachlan groggily awoken. There were morgue specialists prepared to begin working, but the sudden panic from the presumed dead startled them. Clothing was fetched alongside a medical team to do an assessment on the man’s health after returning from the haunting realm of Purgatory. Few words were traded, Lachlan possessing no information about his captors due to the mysterious nature of his captivity. It meant the crime was likely to become unpunished because of the enigmatic circumstances that surrounded the murder. After days of recuperation, Lachlan returned to school with a new determination to discover the perpetrators of his own murder. His new species assisted greatly in the verdict since he no longer required sleep or food, but unfortunately this did not last. Constantly, Lachlan would push his body beyond the brinking point which ultimate resulted in a form of abusing his energy. Resting was unnecessary, he needed to work in hopes of getting closer to the conclusion and distracting himself from the depression harbouring inside his mind. The lack of resting lashed out against him, causing the young reaper’s body to face a unique type of harm. The energy provided by his self-sustenance was unable to replace the expended energy, resulting in doctors stating that Lachlan was required to sleep to make certain that the energy was replenished. They gave him sleeping pills, informing the young man that he was required to take them. However, sleep meant nightmares and his body prior managed to work with very little sleep, thus he pushed himself to points of exhaustion. The random fainting episodes began again, but each doctor visit and lecture met deaf ears as the student continued working on his studies and attempting to solve his murder. He was determined, ambitious and ignorant to medical advice. Gradually, the pills began stacking up since Lachlan began neglecting his other medications due to constantly getting distracted with more “important” things. By the age of 22, he was successful in the numerous classes that assisted in allowing him to become a private investigator. Between his work on his personal case, Lachlan began solving the various crimes that would be given from those who required the attention. He excelled in the occupation despite his rather aloof disposition, shortly becoming a reputable investigator. Ten years have passed since his death, and despite the trails leading to dead end, Lachlan continues to search while assisting the numerous people of Lorsette with the crimes that plague the city. His home has transformed into a mess of notes based around crimes in hopes of helping others alongside distracting himself from his depression. No attempts have been made to try and make friends considering his cynical train of thought has brought difficulties to trust and increased the belief of him being meant to be alone. misc - Likes: Books (mostly mystery novels), quiet places, candles, spirits, talking with ghosts, solving cases, puzzles, watching, work, ambient music, strategy games, trivia, tea, good dreams, writing, independence - Dislikes: Being yelled at, idiocy, heavily crowded places, sickness, headaches, stress, being unable to work, nightmares, sweets, cats, allergies, knives/daggers, sad music, being unable to find answers, being alone, his family, arrogance, being ignored, neglect, burdening others, how easily flustered he is, criminals - Fears: His family, death, abuse, being alone forever, being tortured, drugs/poisons - Lachlan is an in the closet homosexual.
