Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Naoya has never really been one for grandiose gestures, let alone grandiose desires. All he needs is the feeling of belonging, to someone or to somewhere .. and that was enough. ”You don’t want me to?” The quick swiping of the mints says otherwise, but it makes Naoya happy. He’d have to make a habit of bringing more, so that there’d never be a lack of them. Better to have extra instead of needing some, yeah? Naoya is content with allowing himself to show forward these little gestures, small hints of affection. It’s the way that’s easiest for him, and he always desires to show how he feels.
Showing how he truly feels ... sometimes it’s still a little hard. It took a foot being shoved in the way of the closing door, and then slowly budging it open tiny bit by bit. It’s gotten a little bit easier the longer he spends in Severus’s presence, but sometimes he has a twitch reaction to turn away even still. ”Hmmm...” Naoya’s voice here is merely a deep hum, his playfulness evident. He’s happy to see Severus here with him, even if he didn’t quite say it out loud.
His affection probably bubbles through with the tenderness in which he strokes his hair, more so than any words he could ever hope to string together. Naoya has always been better at actions in comparison to words, the intents behind them could often stumble and fall flat. Treating each individual strand as if it were precious, delicate even. Severus’s next action caused him to pause, surprised. He found however, that he wasn’t entirely opposed.
Closeness like this is ... something he hasn’t had in a long time. The last time someone had been close, it left a sour taste in his mouth. His usually cold eyes are lighter now, warmer. He was content to let these new memories overwrite the old ones, change the sour taste into something sweeter. Almost as if they, she had never existed.
”The chair not good enough for you today?” Naoya is teasing, but he allows himself to be poked. The warmth he feels at the banter, he likes it. His fondness is bleeding over into his voice now, but he doesn’t want to hide it. The smile tugs further up his face, and he hums under his breath again. There’s faint traces of a blush on his face, though subtle and a little hard to catch. At his touch, his kiss, he wants to purr. The look Severus was giving him was enough to shake him to his bones, draw every inch of his focus. ”Nope.”
It was a joke, though an obvious one. ”Of course I did. I miss you whenever you’re not here.” His voice was a low whisper, the admission only meant for Severus alone. Nobody else really needed to hear, though he really wouldn’t care too much if they had. Naoya was happy today, content in his life situation. Things were looking up, always.
He knows he looks horrible, otherwise the apprentice wouldn’t have balked. ”Even if you say that..” His face still looked like a cracking marble pillar, or like some kinda horror movie slasher smile. It was a broken gesture he had never been able to properly showcase, or really tried that hard to. For a long time it was a useless skill, with there not being anything to smile about. Gently trying to push those thoughts aside, it wasn’t the time for that. Later, he could think about it later. For now...there was something to do.
”I wouldn’t blame you.” His teeth grit a little and the forced smile bleeds over into his voice. It makes for a verbal twitch in tone he isn’t used to. Smiling is awkward and he doesn’t like it. Was it really such a necessary thing? There were other ways to show how you were feeling, right? ”Okay...” He allows the slasher smile to drop, and feels relief watch over him.
It was just as unpleasant as he remembered, but at least she hadn’t run away. That was a sign of some sort ... right? ”Don’t I have to think about smiling in order to do it?” His voice is tinged in a subtle curiousity, though it was still pretty evident. Can you smile without thinking about it? That felt strange, but maybe there was a truth to it. ”It’s fine with me. It’s to help ... right?” He breathes out slowly, allowing his face to fully return to it’s normal state. ”Okay...” Was this really okay? Was it possible to make any progress?
If one thing had never changed, well, it’d be his workaholic tendencies. He was bound, set, and utterly determined to make sure everything was completed properly before he allowed himself to get distracted by anything else. Still, it had changed around recently, almost as if gravity itself had altered, he has been drowning himself in work less and less, especially when somebody specific would come and ... ah. Speaking of...the timing was pretty spot on, huh?
Naoya rested his chin atop one of his hands and sighed heavily ... though it was more for show, more teasing than really showcasing any irritation. ”Done already? That was quick.” He dropped his hand back down, a slight quirk to his lips. Reaching into a pocket of his coat, he retrieved a tin of mints and tapped a finger against it. ”Have these for working hard. Something tells me you’ll grind them down into dust in no time.” It seemed like so long ago that he had been pushing everyone aside, making sure they stayed at an arm’s length. Things were ... really different now, huh?
Work wasn’t really as push and pull, reigning supreme over every thought and breath like it had used to. He had managed to feel safer somehow, had managed to settle instead of constantly keeping his guards up. Now that he didn’t spend every moment looking over his shoulder or laser focused on ever slip of paper that existed in his direction, he noticed more of the little things instead of just the big ones. It was easier to engage with others now that he didn’t try to have a bruised knuckle grip on keeping everyone at an arm’s length.
”You know ... fine. I like talking to you too.” It was easier to admit to things now too. ”Hey, c’mere..” A faint light of playfulness wavered in Naoya’s eyes as he reached forward as if to touch Sev’s face ... before ultimately bypassing it and yanking his hood down to cover his eyes. Hehe, gotcha. A soft smile played over Naoya’s face as his hand retreated, only to sneak under the hood and stroke Sev’s hair. And you think I can’t surprise you, huh?
He still didn’t say everything that came to his mind but ... he’s appreciative. He knows the path he could have gone down, and having been pulled back from the precipice just before he fell into the abyss ... it wasn’t what he had been expecting. Or maybe it was just as simple as not knowing what he needed, or even really what he wanted. Naoya still can’t say he really has a future goal now, but what he has here is enough. He doesn’t need something grandiose.
He hums lightly at her comment, before giving his head a tiny shake. He wasn’t nervous so much as worried, that all of this would be in vain. Taking another sip of the coffee, he decided that he can’t actually remember the last time he felt nervous about something. Or rather, maybe it had been a long time since he had allowed himself to acknowledge himself feeling it. Feelings that he didn’t think were relevant, he had learned to ignore. Anything that wasn’t needed for survival was discarded, but maybe it was time to loosen the grip. He wasn’t under his father’s thumb, so he could stop looking back over his shoulder.
Had he said something strange again? No, maybe it was just strange to say these things out loud. Maybe he’s letting himself be a little too loose with his words? He blinks and tilts his head to look at her when she pokes him, mostly curious as to what exactly had prompted it. Was she really so surprised? Still ... he doesn’t really regret saying it. It had been the truth, after all. Taking another sip of the coffee he can’t help but feel a little satisfied.
He hummed again at her words, though more thoughtful this time. ”I think it’s pretty important to you, though.” Besides, others needed to see something other than a stone face every once in a while...right? ”Then I guess I don’t have to worry, huh?” Maybe she would be one of the first who could weather the chill, he found himself hoping as much. He’s drawn to her smile he finds, and her words catch his cold eyes softening. ”If you’re certain about that...” He’s relieved, he thinks.
She ... just had to ask that huh? Sighing a little and instinctively frowning a bit, he might as well do as asked. ”Just remember that you asked for it...” The apprentice’s face momentarily flashes in his mind and Naoya tries to force his face to cooperate as he had then. The corner of one lip twitched, and the forcing was quite obvious. He looked either like he was in intense pain, or was about to kill something. ”Look - I’m so happy- Can’t you tell?“ His voice sounds stiff, pulled tight.
