Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Despite being a former hunter, Isidore is rather slender with an around average height of 5’9” tall. He is rather lanky in appearance, his arms and legs being longer than average. As of body type, Isidore is best defined as having a healthy fitness, his body being composed of slight muscle and having an overall healthy appearance. This is mostly from having a healthy diet prior to death and maintaining good physical health even after meeting his demise. While Isidore is by no means a muscular man, he is plenty able to keep a slender body. His skin is best defined as fair complexion, although, is renown to becoming the victim of bruises, scrapes and small scratches. This is due to Isidore’s own clumsiness at times which frequently results in tripping, which can lead to injury. Even though he is renown for being clumsy, Isidore has mostly avoided scaring, the most significant scar being around his chest and back. These have a fainter skin tone than the rest of his complexion.
Isidore possesses a youthful and rather feminine face, his cheeks being a bit plump. He has a softly curved chin and an upturned nose. Settled on the bridge of his nose is a pair of glasses with a thin wire frame under the lenses. The legs of his glasses have a similar slender appearance. A majority of the time, Isidore will wear his glasses, but occasionally he will use contacts; usually in situations where glasses may hinder him or if his glasses have broken. His hair is short, being black in colour. He has a simple styling to his hair, oftentimes just taking a few moments to brush it out. During dates, he will groom his black locks back to appear more professional and gentlemanly. His eyes are a dull brown, making them an unnoticed feature to his face.
Clothing wise, Isidore switches between casual and formal since it depends on his mood. He does prefer dress shirts, finding them rather comfortable to wear in a formal or more casual fashion. He will usually only wear a full suit on formal dates. For pants, he will either wear dress pants or jeans, only wearing shorts when he goes swimming. When he is not in regular clothing, he is in his TRS ward medic uniform which has no alterations.
Spiritual Form: In this form, Isidore is completely a spirit and is unable to interact with the physical world. He will phase through walls and people, physical weapons and some abilities being unable to harm them. All abilities in this form are entirely passive, resulting in him not possessing the ability to attack or defend. While in this form, he can still be harmed by the abilities of reapers and wraiths, particularly the necromancy of reapers and minor dark manipulation of wraiths. There are a variety of abilities accessible only in this form for Isidore to use, although, he had little reason to train his spiritual form abilities. It takes roughly 40 seconds for Isidore to shift into spiritual form.
Phasing -- Intermediate The ability to phase through items and people without receiving harm or bumping into them. This can allow for the individual not to get hit by physical objects and occasionally other abilities depending on the ability’s nature. As expected, Isidore is capable of phasing through just about anything, ultimate allowing for faster travel or to sneak into restricted areas by avoiding alarms. Unfortunately, Isidore held little use for phasing through walls, objects or people since he is a ward medic. Occasionally, the ability will be used if a patient managed to lock the door of a room or should he manage to misplace the house keys. A majority of the time, he seldom uses his phasing unless he is of the utmost necessity. This is partly because of how long it takes to shift between his spiritual and physical form; having your medic phase through everything is by no means helpful! During moments of weariness, Isidore has been known to accidentally phase through things if he happens to be in spiritual form.
Invisibility -- Intermediate The ability to become invisible to the human eye, allowing for somebody to move completely unseen. Other senses, such as touch and hearing, can indicate the individual’s location; those with enhanced senses frequently being capable of detecting where the person is. Certain abilities can allow the person to see the other individual, thus the ability is not always full-proof. Essentially, invisibility makes Isidore transparent, making it difficult for others to notice and/or watch him. While Isidore may be transparent, he can be seen should the light manage to catch him at the correct angle. In this situation, he would be mostly transparent, but certain reflections would allow for a normal person to notice Isidore. He can keep this ability up for roughly 45 minutes, perhaps an hour if he is willing to push himself.
Enhanced Sensory -- Advanced The ability to sense those around you, allowing for the individual to sense people. This ability can allow for the individual to sense beyond the room they are inside, making it easier to sneak around or know where others are. There were many uses that Isidore could think of should they ever require him on the field medic team. He oftentimes uses the ability to detect other injured individuals, allowing for him to smoothly lead others to those who require assistance. He only really trains his spiritual form ability because of the many uses it possesses. Isidore is capable of sensing within a 3-meter radius of himself, sometimes even pushing further with enough focus on the area.
Physical Form: In this form, Isidore can be hit by physical objects and abilities, although, he does have access to defensive and offensive abilities. This allows him to defend himself, but this is based on his skills, which means he does risk missing or being surprised by attacks. While in this form, Isidore is capable of physically interacting with the world. This form is seen as most useful since Isidore has access to hymns which he can use to heal others. It takes him 40 seconds to switch into his physical form.
Telekinesis -- Mastered The ability to move items and sometimes people through the psychic abilities of the mind. Depending on capability, the user can can change the speeds of an object or even launch it to fly far distances should they provide enough momentum. This ability requires immense amounts of focus since it requires the capability of the mind. The concept of telekinesis has always been interesting to Isidore, thus he began training the ability to test its boundaries. He has excellent control and capability with his telekinesis, even finding himself capable of moving objects two times his weight thoroughly or even nudging heavier items. He can suspend an item and person in the air, allowing for him to “carry” something without the use of his body. Depending on the weight or size, Isidore can carry something for extended periods of time. Being able to suspend people is a frequent skill invoked by Isidore considering the useful implications it can have on the medical field for somebody of his average stature. The amount of time he can carry a person depends heavily on the person’s weight, size and how much they struggle in response to the telekinesis.
Somebody who is larger and struggles immensely would be more difficult to carry and possibly result in Isidore dropping them or losing energy quicker than if somebody submitted to his hold on them. Distance is a larger variable when it comes to Isidore’s telekinesis since he can only move items in a 40-meter radius, but Isidore must be able to see the object, otherwise, his ability would not work. With this limitation, he is also unable to defend himself should somebody throw an item behind him unless he turns around in time to move it. Individuals with psychic shielding are completely immune to Isidore’s capabilities, making it impossible for him to move or even slightly nudge them. Certain charms can make items less susceptible to Isidore’s capabilities.
Hymns -- Advanced A power that can be utilized through song, allowing the user to heal, protect, strengthen and lure others towards them. The capabilities of somebody’s hymns depends on the songs they use to represent each one. There were plenty of uses with hymns and being an enjoyer of music, Isidore adored exploring his capabilities. He trained his hymns extremely, but there are certain areas that are stronger than others. Healing and protection are Isidore’s strongest hymns because of his occupation as a ward medic. While he remains inside the ward, Isidore has trained his protection hymns to avoid getting hurt or to protect others. His healing hymns are used to restore those who have faced horrible injuries, Isidore using them quite frequently. Depending on the length of the song, he can heal somebody entirely or partially, although, he can only heal a maximum of 5 people; he cannot heal himself. His protection hymns spawn a shield that will remain there for the duration of the song, however, he will be exhausted and possibly faint if this goes beyond 4-5 minutes of singing.
Strengthening hymns are best described as a tier below healing and protection since Isidore rarely sees action. Oftentimes, he will use this to help patients keep their strength, but he only does this when he is getting desperate. Obviously, he cannot sing forever and the effects of the strengthening hymn are only temporary and more designed to provide energy to those who need it. The siren song is the one that Isidore uses the least, although, nonetheless does use for curiosity. He only really utilizes the siren song for research purposes, him never truly using it.
Possession -- Beginner The ability to control others by using the abilities of the mind to enforce control. There was always something that never sat right with Isidore about controlling another person, thus he never used it. He has no plans to use it, and should he try he could not put much power into it. He would be lucky to have somebody obey his commands and furthermore those of strong-will would be more susceptible.
Illusion Manipulation -- Intermediate A power that allows the individual’s to create illusions and lead people into false senses. This can allow the user to trick another person’s senses and depending on the sights, sounds, feelings and various other elements, can leave a lasting impact on the person’s mental state. Isidore is rather weak with what he can do with illusion manipulation, most of his abilities being limited to only sight-based illusions. Usually, this ability is only used to creature smoke clouds for escape or to temporarily make calming scenery to lull patients. Otherwise, Isidore seldom uses or exercises the ability. Using illusion manipulation can make him tire rather quickly because of his lack of use in the ability. He can only make an illusion within a 2-meter radius.
Flight -- Advance An ability that allows the user to soar through the sky or levitate without the use of wings or other methods to obtain elevation. After learning about the ability, Isidore began to adore it quickly since it became a method to avoid his clumsiness. While he is capable of flying high in the sky at fast speeds, he oftentimes keeps it limited to a slow, levitation. This is because the faster he goes, the more energy Isidore will use up. When merely levitating, Isidore can use this ability for hours before becoming too tired and being forced to walk. At higher speeds and greater heights, he is limited to 2-3 hours.
Naturals: Immortality, Self-sustenance
backstory
On a sunny, spring day was when Isidore was born to the Vynlay family who were renown hunters in Lorsette. As expected of the family lineage, they were hunters and oftentimes married hunters to maintain a prestigious line of hunting in the family. While the Vynlay family were never necessarily strict over the necessity of hunter or marriage rights, they preferred their relatives to assist in the efforts of vanquishing the Assembly of Phantoms. Thus, from the day he was born, Isidore gained this expectation like those before him. Even as he started school began the hinting towards joining the TRS in the future, his parents even providing information about terrors at a young age. They desired their son to succeed and hoped to have another hunter join their prideful ranks when the future arrived. While in school, Isidore was rather popular among his peers on account of his large intellect at a young age. He enjoyed school, even as the grades started to get more challenging, he found entertainment from learning new things and reading books. This thrilled his parents who desired to see him succeed, their son’s enjoyment of learning being used to further teach him about the TRS and the Assembly despite his young age.
These lessons never bored Isidore, his admiration for learning only increasing as time proceeded. As days passed, he had grown use to his parents being away on missions and his grandparents being around to watch him until they returned. This was simply how the Vynlay family functioned with mother and father working together on missions while his grandparents happily watched the child. However, things eventually changed when one day his mother remained home while his father left for work. At first, Isidore believed his mother was merely ill considering most mornings she would head to the washroom, yet, something appeared off. After the morning passed, his mother usually appeared quite fit and healthy, even going around to assist with chores. This confused Isidore, the young boy eventually approaching his mother to inquire why she remained home. There was a smile on her face as she took him onto her lap to explain he would have a little brother or sister in a few months. While many details went unmentioned, Isidore was uncertain about what having a younger sibling would be like.
Gradually, months passed and which each passing month, his mother’s belly seemed to grow rather large and round. Once again, the young boy was confused considering his mother was a beautiful and lean woman. Her body was oftentimes well-maintained, evening having some muscle because of her years of being a hunter. After more months passed, Isidore’s younger sister Nicolette was born. The evidently curious young boy would always ask random questions about his younger sister, most being featured around if she could play with him or what they could do together. While they could not play, his mother would always find something for Isidore to do in order to assist with the new child. Obediently, he would listen since once Nicolette was asleep for a nap, he would play boardgames with his parents or be allowed to learn some new information about terrors. As time proceeded, Isidore and Nicolette became rather close, although, had the occasional brother-sister fight as expected of siblings.
When Isidore was old enough, his parents began training him to defend himself to further motivate his decision to become a hunter. At first, training was simple games designed to teach him the basics of his lessons. These later evolved as years continued and when Isidore became 12, he joined the TRS to become a hunter. While he proceeded to train through the TRS program, Isidore was given further instruction from his parents who desired their son to graduate with the highest grades. He excelled in the TRS training program, even going lengths to qualify as a tutor for those who struggled with the material. During his training, Isidore managed to make a best friend, the pair oftentimes working together on the material to make certain they received the best understanding. They were close, being an excellent pair and amazing friends as a result. He finished his hunter training within a month, which allowed for him to begin hunting with the assistance of a senior member. Occasionally, he would manage to go on some missions with his close friend.
Around the age of 15 was when Isidore began enjoying the concept of romance, the young boy frequently flirting with those around him. He would do similarly to his friend, uncertain whether his friend was interested in him or not. Isidore yearned for the concept of romance and spending his years by another individual’s side, thus he consistently flirted with others. He gained a few partners from this, but none would stick with the bespectacled boy. What he truly desired was to find his soulmate, the person destined to be beside him by fate itself. It resulted in plenty of heartbreak during his early years because of his specifications, but he learned about what he enjoyed. Physically, he found himself more attached to tall, redheaded people and he frequently liked the male gender more. He adored bravery and efficiency alongside several other traits that captured his attention. His frequent flirting made him dislike being alone, thus he oftentimes placed himself in the company of friends or people he could flirt with.
A few months after his 17th birthday, Isidore was labelled an elite hunter, giving him some authority among other officers. As time proceeded, his friend and himself were called out on a mission regarding a razor and an Assembly member in the area. They arrived on scene, successfully defeating the razor and Isidore stating they should search the area for an Assembly member. The young man turned his back for a moment, only to shortly feel the intense pain of a knife entering his back and his friend’s hand covering his mouth. Isidore wanted to scream, but the noises were muffled as he feebly attempted to squirm free, the knife only digging deeper. Only moments later did his friend pushed him to the ground and added a few extra cuts to make it appear as though a razor had killed Isidore. Later, his former friend ran off, screaming for “help” to pretend that Isidore had been reckless during the battle and perished.
As an extra precaution, the traitor pretended to get disoriented, resulting in Isidore’s body not being found that evening. When everything was done, a pair of TRS hunters knocked on his parents door to inform them of the incident. After hearing about what happened, Isidore’s parents were devastated to have lost their son. The evening was spent mourning his loss, people already apologizing for what happened. The following morning, TRS squads left in an attempt to find the body. They searched the area, but oddly enough only found a puddle of blood, DNA tests proving it was Isidore’s. There remained no body, not even drag marks to signify that somebody dragged the corpse away. The hunters were baffled, but continued to search the area in an attempt to figure out what happened to the body of Isidore Vynlay.
Despite everything that happened, Isidore Vynlay did not enter the afterlife that evening since he had unfinished business on Earth. His restless soul returned to his body, healing over the stab wounds and allowing for him to rise from the cold ground. He needed to find his soulmate, he was certain they were on Earth, out there somewhere. He desired to get the traitor who stabbed him locked up since they were a threat to the TRS and the public. Thus he woke, aimlessly wandering around the Calico Forest for the entire night and the morning until being discovered by TRS agents. The agents were thrilled and hastily escorted Isidore out, the weary spirit following them as he recounted the truth, explaining his friend had betrayed him and murdered him. Unfortunately, the traitor managed to escape, avoiding capture from the RCMP and TRS after hearing about Isidore being alive.
After the frightening evening, Isidore returned to his family, receiving tight hugs and a small celebration since he was safe again. The incident left the newly turned spirit paranoid and in serious debate about where he wanted to work in the TRS. His experience with death left him pondering if he should leave the hunting division to avoid death. A few days passed, the young man talking out the situation with his parents, explaining how he lost the desire to be a hunter. To drive his decision to leave hunting further was his extreme lacking in dexterity after his death, losing the power proving to be a hindrance to the young man. His parents explained they would support any decision Isidore came to, and thus, Isidore left the hunting division. After checking for other TRS jobs, he eventually settled on becoming a ward medic and began training immediately. In a few months, he succeeded and was placed on the medical staff in the ward and has assisted there for 2 years. In this time, he has trained his abilities to better help others. As time goes on, he hopes that one day he will find his true love.
