Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2022
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
The outskirts of Lorsette, was the furthest area from the main area of the city and the place closest to the wilderness. Most people will find it is complicated to traverse such a long distance in such a small amount of time. For Charles wasn't much of a problem, teleportation allowed for a faster method of travel. As long as he had been in the place before and it was within his line of sight it wasn't much of an issue. As the Deputy from the TRS Scout Division, it wasn't much of an issue in general. Occasionally he had to scout out the outskirts of the city for any AP activity, since the area was far away from the TRS Headquarters the eyes of the TRS were significantly lower here compared to other places. TRS members still patrolled around the place, but one could say that their presence here wasn't as high compared to other places. There was a lot of terrain that had to be covered, which made things difficult.
Charles was patrolling the area and keeping an eye out for AP activity. To him, this was just another day on that job. The circumstances drastically changed the moment he heard the buzzing on his radio, as someone had suddenly requested assistance. He knew for a fact it was a TRS member who had requested assistance, as only TRS members could tune in to the same frequency as he was in. "Copy that... Responding. Try not to die before I get there... The location of the place that was provided through radio wasn't too far away from where he was, he could probably get there much faster than the rest of the TRS who heard the message so he definitely had to go even if having to deal with potential enemies like the AP was an annoyance to him. His job involved him doing so.
So the Deputy swiftly made his the area where the shoot-out was taking place. He eventually arrived at the place but decided to keep his distance. The last thing he needed was to enter a place without having a grasp of what's going on. The sound of gunshots could be heard in the distance, the entire area had been abandoned. Nobody else aside from himself appeared to be nearby close, so he was the only one that could help out. "Goddammit... I'm the only one around."
As Charles approached the place the sound of gun firing increased much more, the entire had turned into a battlefield. He decided to take a much more careful approach, he crouched using the abandoned cars as cover. Any brash movement without knowing how many enemies in the area were was risking. Not to change the fact that it wouldn't surprise him if the person that requested help ended up being attacked by a group of pissed AP members. "Deputy Ohm here. I'm close to your location, how many enemies do you see?" He spoke through the radio as the battle ensued, he was yet to be spotted, but he wanted to make sure the person who had requested help was still alive. The Deputy knew he was close to their location, but was unable to get a good grasp on how many hostiles were in the area. So he remained behind one of the abandoned cars from covers, he was just a few meters away from Felix and Bruce.
All attempts to tell her to calm down were futile. Charles would've preferred a much peaceful approach and avoid a fight, but it was expected for a woman who had lost her husband recently to be mentally unstable. She clearly wasn't going to listen to anybody, much less someone from the TRS. The TRS Hunter noticed the sparks of electricity coming from her hands. She was an electricity manipulator, just like him. So the intel from her was correct, she was capable of such. He didn't know much about her husband's death, but now he was just another target in her path of revenge. Whether he was innocent or not stopped being relevant to her the moment she spotted him.
"Spoken like a person who has been brainwashed from an early age. If it wasn't for the AP, the TRS wouldn't exist." He replied, it was clear that she had been brainwashed by the AP as a child soldier. Two opposing ways of thinking were bound to clash sooner or later. The AP were the ones responsible for killing his parents, it changed his entire life and that was the reason why he had joined the TRS. If it wasn't for that, maybe his life would've been different, but that didn't matter now. "Reasoning wouldn't work with you..." This was clearly a tragedy, he could tell she was crushed on the inside and her sense of reason was just as crushed as her heart by the death of his husband. He never felt such a tragic loss, except his parts, but he was very young so he doesn't remember them that much. The two were probably together for decades. Charles could only imagine the pain she felt, but even then he couldn't let himself get killed.
"I'm sorry for your loss." Charles said, as several sparks of electricity came out from his body. Electricity surrounded the Hunter. It was unknown to him that Jessica was immune to electricity. He was human, gifted, but human, that was probably his biggest weakness. As always, he was going to use Electricity Manipulation, Time Manipulation was too risky and was normally left as the last resort. Although it was also his greatest asset, it acted as a double-edged sword as it also strained his body. He waited for Jessica's move, he kept an eye out for her claws and other projectiles. As soon as the chance presented itself he was planning to counter-attack.
Charles remained behind his desk, as he waited for the entrance of the Elite Hunter to his office. He didn't know much about him, but he was aware of his rank as an Elite Hunter. The Deputy was lazy, but not ignorant when it came to information gathering. He had a brief knowledge about the people conformed to the unit he was in. Although, sometimes he would rather just act like he doesn't know anything. The countless hours of paperwork had always been a pain for him, reading reports, analyzing data obtained from the field, and coordinating scouts were draining. One could argue that was the reason why he looked so tired and always acted so lazily. He just lived with it, and today it was just another day on the job. Maybe something interesting will come out of it.
"Eh, that's true... He may just be some random criminal that has nothing to do with what we are looking for." He replied, Entoan was right about it. Most reports and people they found resulted in being petty criminals that the TRS had no interest in investigating. The Scout Deputy highly doubt that an AP infiltrator will be easy prey to catch, if he was a member of the AP then he would send in his smartest and most capable members to infiltrate the enemy. Minimizing the possibility of getting compromised was important. Intelligence played an important factor against the war with the terrors and the AP. Charles looked at the things that Entoan had brought. "Hopefully, it will make things a lot easier for us. Most of the reports that come here just consist of things that end up in a dead-end or are simply not related to what we are looking for. All of our efforts are ultimately pointless if we can't predict where they are going to attack. How did the guy look like? Did you manage to ask him some questions or obtained anything aside from these things?" For him, getting asked a bunch of questions was partially annoying. He felt like Entoan would maybe feel the same, but the more he knew the better. If he received a bit more context regarding what occurred then he will get a deduction.
Between one of the things that had been handed to him, there was something that particularly got his attention. A radio, in there, was a paper that had a cipher text in it. Whatever that piece of paper has, it was encrypted. He was familiar with the types of ciphers the AP used to relay messages to their informants and agents. This was often used to camouflage messages and prevent them from potentially grabbing the attention of TRS Hunters or anyone who could potentially report their activity to the TRS. "It appears there's ciphertext here that has been encrypted. It's going to take me at least a few minutes to figure what it says." As much of annoyance it was, work was work at the end of the day. It was unusual for a petty criminal to carry something like this, though. So maybe they were dealing with someone that was working for the AP to a certain degree.
The night was relatively peaceful, and Charles partially hoped for it to be that way. He had several questions in regards to what exactly happened, but it was better for him to wait for a chance and just watch from afar. As far he knew, the couple of the former members of the AP decided to settle down and make a family. The man known as Lawrence wouldn't simply go missing with a desire to leave his family, it was very unlikely it was for that reason. The Elite Hunter attempted to remain undetected, simply posing as a random civilian without attempting to be suspicious. However, Charles himself had underestimated how recognizable he could be at times due to his own renown as a TRS Elite Hunter. Little did he knew that Jessica was already aware of his presence. Despite having stepped down as an AP member for a while now. She still retained her knowledge, skills, and experience from her time in the AP. Her husband had gone missing for a while, anyone would be smart enough to realize that something was wrong.
Charles kept his eye out on the entire house, his main focus was the surrounding places rather than the house itself. That confidence of his that he wouldn't end up getting spotted by anyone, especially Jessica was his own demise. The sound of a door opening was heard. He turned to look where the sound originated from only to be met by a green-haired woman that landed a cold glare on him. "Damnit..." The Elite Hunter muttered below his breath, as he was met by the person that he had to watch over. He wasn't expecting to encounter this early on, but after her husband's disappearance, it was only expected for her to become a lot warier of her surroundings. It was clear that she believed that he had something to do with his disappearance and her facial expression was more akin to a seasoned murderer that had been doing this for a while. Charles thought to himself that it was better to try and be calm about it. Being was aware that she could lash at him at any moment if he wasn't careful. "I just happened to be here. I was keeping an eye in case something happened. Please, calm down, I don't mean any sort of harm to you and your family. Let's try and be civilized about this, alright?" He replied to her harsh comment politely, attempting to come off as friendly. It's a good thing that he brought up his weapons with him.
A Glock 17, commonly used among the British military and law enforcement agencies around the world. And a Thompson Contender that has been modified to chamber .30-6 Springfield which was used against armored targets or stronger beings that had much more durability than a human. The size of the small size of the weapons allowed for easy concealment under his overcoat. He didn't want to use them if it could be helped. Charles was dealing with a husband that had lost her husband, the rage and mental instability was only to be expected. He didn't have high hopes that she could be reasoned with.
Several things were going on in London, for a while now the TRS had been keeping tabs out on two former members from the AP that had allegedly left the organization and were now living together. These two people were Jessica and Lawrence Blane, two high-ranking members of the Assembly of Phantoms. Defectors from the AP weren't something uncommon, but high-ranking members who have served the organization for such a long time were a rare sight to see. For the most part, the TRS was just keeping tabs on them to make sure their retirement was true. However, a change of plans occurred when Lawrence Blane was nowhere to be found. This forced the TRS to take action, it was possible that Lawrence had been kidnapped by the AP, or suddenly decided to rejoin the organization. Whatever was going on, they had to figure out what had happened. At this point, only Jessica remained, attempting to establish contact with her was an option, although it had to be done carefully. The TRS decided had decided to dispatch Elite Hunter Charles Ohm to keep an eye out and take out any AP that may possibly be involved. Any information from Jessica could be useful as her former position as a high-rank could help the TRS obtain some new information about their operations or possible bases in London.
Charles was deployed to a mission that was different from what he was normally accustomed to, but he had already obtained some experience in intelligence-gathering missions. The Scout Division already had their hands on other things, so they decided to have an Elite Hunter handle it for now. In London, he was a renowned Elite Hunter by the name "the Fool." His appearance was different, long black hair with a ponytail tied to his back followed by a more lively facial expression.
It was 9:21 PM, it was already night time and the place was dark with only the lights of streets illuminating the place. It was best for him to do this during nighttime to move around without problems. This was also where the AP would attempt to strike if they were interested in targeting Jessica. It was much easier to kidnap or assassinate someone at night. Charles was walking around with a long-sleeved white shirt and a black overcoat. The Elite Hunter adjusted his white gloves as he walked around the place, he found himself close to the entrance of her house. His plan was to first keep an eye out on her for the first few days to see what was really going on. Before attempting to establish contact with her. Charles stood at the house next to hers and waited outside, just keeping an eye out. A long night was ahead of him...
The ability to read others, their facial expressions, their voice tones, and body language. It was something Charles was very familiar with doing both as a hunter and now as a member of the Scout Division. At this point it was one of his main skills as a scout, for reasons like that was how he managed to obtain the rank of Deputy within the Scout Division, despite his rather lazy personality. At first glance, it would be hard to believe that someone had managed to obtain such a position, especially at his age when the TRS was filled with members that had been in the organizations for decades and even centuries.
As the injured and lazy deputy thanked the ward medic for taking care of him while he was unconscious. He attempted to make his way out of the ward only to be met with resistance. Haley placed herself in between the exit of the room and him, much to his annoyance. Charles just wanted to head home and relax there instead of being stuck in the base, and it seems like it wouldn't be as easy as he thinks. He was too tired and injured to properly use teleportation and get out of the place in an instant, so that was not an option. Neither was electricity, it's not like he looked to injure her either, much less manipulating time in his current state.
Charles looked at Haley in the face, his facial expression didn't change much. He looked like a dead fish and it seemed like he didn't have any proper rest. The height gap between the two was quite small with the ward medic just being an inch smaller than him, she was much taller than he had expected. "Good grief... He sighed, fully aware he couldn't force his way out. Haley had a lot more strength than him and could easily prevent him from getting out forcefully. "Don't worry... It's not the first this happens. I've gone through the worst things before, I should be the least of your concerns. You look tired as well... It's 4 AM, with six minutes and eleven seconds..." His comment was rather strange, he clearly didn't have a clock or anything that could give him the time, yet he somehow knew the exact time as if it was an instinct of his. That's what it pretty much was. His voice was tired, as expected, and judging by some of his body language it was painful to move. "I just want to go home and get some proper rest there, I can take care of myself. Plus, what's the worst thing that can happen? You should get some rest too, nobody has to know." The Deputy said, he knew he was her job, but in his eyes, she had already done enough while he was asleep. She could go rest easy as he knew properly how much it felt being tired. It was 4 AM and he could tell just by looking at her that she was slightly tired. Who wouldn't be tired at this time early in the morning? Charles was truly careless, too lazy to care.
The high levels of terror activity always meant one thing for him, work, constant work without breaks, and work meant pain. If he could, he would rather stay home and do something else, but duty called. His presence was required, especially in times like this. It was during times like these where the TRS was under pressure the most, the presence of tourists was the best opportunity to show up and wreck the party. His job consisted of verifying reports, relaying information to the rest of the scouts, and ensuring they were no leaks on the unit's network. The last thing they needed was for the enemy to hear out their plans and strategies. Intel-gathering playing a vital role in their war, they had to know what the enemy was up and predict their movements. Taking down the enemy before they had a chance to react was an effective way to win a battle and the easiest one at that.
They were times where suspects were arrested and interrogated, sometimes they would learn useful information and sometimes they would learn nothing at all. While he hadn't originally joined the TRS as a Scout, but instead worked in the Hunter Division before transferring after the incident. Charles had picked up several skills as a scout throughout the years, after all, someone like him wouldn't be able to reach the rank of Deputy.
At the time of Entoan's arrival, Charles was currently analyzing some data that had been obtained by a few scouts on the field, but unfortunately, it wasn't anything special. This was followed by a knock on the door and then the doorknob getting twisted, someone had entered and required his attention. "...Hm? Let's see it then, take a seat... I'll get to analyzing it shortly." He said, welcoming Entoan into the room. Considering the previous analysis proved to be a failure, the arrival of the Elite Hunter with additional things to analyze lifted his mood a bit. Maybe something interesting would come out of this. "It's rare for an Elite Hunter to show up here, but I assume it's because you have something good to show." The Scout Deputy commented on his presence, a yawn followed, but it was by his hand briefly. One could assume that he was tired, but in fact, Charles is like this 90% of the time. Perhaps, what Entoan brought with him would lift his spirits and remove the dead look in his eyes.
It has been a while since he had joined the TRS as a hunter. From a young age and after the death of his parents he had the determination to become a hunter. Charles had been working in the TRS for over a decade now, officially joining at the age of 18 and becoming an elite hunter a few years later. Nowadays, such past didn't matter much to him, it was more of a reminder of his innocence, ignorance, and lack of experience.
After being out in the field for a few hours to gain information in regards any future attacks, Charles encountered some enemies on the way there. He had been forced to use Time Manipulation to evade them and defeat them. Time Manipulation, the ability to manipulate was a strong ability that many little people had. However, it had a lot of limitations and weaknesses. Overuse of Time Manipulation placed a lot of stress on his body, which normally lead to injuries. This was because of the fact that he was human. Increasing the flow of time on his body created a lot of stress than the human body wasn't normally subjected to. It was rare for him to use Time Manipulaion, preferring to rely on Electricity Manipulation since it didn't put that much stress on his body. Under most circumstances if he got injured, he could probably rewind time on his injuries a few seconds and up to a few minutes. But whenever he was injured through Time Manipulation it was impossible for him to do so. He managed to arrive back to the TRS Headquarters, but last thing he remembered was passing out of exhaustion. After that, he was brought to the medical ward to get his wounds treated and to get some rest. He had been out for several hours now and it was pretty much late in the night with the ward being empty.
Charles opened his eyes and turned to look around the place. This was followed by a feminine voice calling him by his full name. The man raised his head to look at the ward medic that was in the same room as him. By the looks of it, he could deduce that she had been looking out for him while he was asleep. "Hm... Yeah, I slept like a rock..." He replied, for him sleeping was one of the best things ever. Although, under this circumstances it wasn't quite nice. His muscles were still in pain after exerting himself hours prior. However, the pain didn't stop him from getting up of the bed and sit down at the side of the bed. "If that's that true, then it definitely works... I want to get out of here and get to my house..." He sighed, doing something that he wasn't supposed to do so, but as a professional slacker. Charles stood up and began towards to head the exit of the medical ward. It wasn't hard to see that to tell that he was in pain, his walking was slow and sluggish. The TRS Deputy would prefer to rest on his house than in the headquarters. Not like the injuries were much of a big deal, this wasn't the first or the last time he would get injured. "Thanks..."
Time flows constantly, it doesn't care about the people who are struggling.

appearance
Charles is a man who has no particular care about his personal appearance, doing the bare minimum to look presentable. Measuring 5 feet and 10 inches, slightly taller than the average adult male. A dark hair that is usually unkempt, with a messy fringe covering his forehead. His body is slim and toned thanks to the training he has received as a member of the TRS over the years.
His choice of clothing isn't anything special. While he's working, he wears the standard TRS uniform which consists of a black jacket. During the Winter season, he wears an altercated version of his uniform that takes the form of a black overcoat. Off-duty, he prefers to wear casual clothing for the most part. Such as half-sleeved shirts with jeans, or any type of clothing that he may find comfortable. Preferring to wear something comfortable above everything else.
Time Manipulation -- Advanced: The ability to control, manipulate and interact with time itself, the indefinite continued process of existence and events. As a person with the ability to manipulate time, Charles is proficient with it, having the ability to speed, slow, and stop the flow of time. This is normally applied to his body by speeding up the flow of time in order to move faster, slowing down the flow of time to slow down his body functions, and stopping time on certain objects or projectiles to prevent getting hit by them. Rewinding time for a few seconds in order to avoid a potentially life-threatening situation or to heal wounds.
While the ability to manipulate time is powerful, it comes with heavy restrictions. Over usage of time manipulation for extended periods of time will result in the body getting strained. This can make the person a lot more prone to getting injured if that's the case, such as broken bones, pulled muscles, etc. Injuries caused by over usage of time manipulation can not be healed through time the usage of time manipulation. Continued usage of abilities such as time rewind could result in a change in the flow of time. Because of this, the user may be attacked by time itself, which could lead to death.
Electricity Manipulation: -- Mastered: The ability to control, manipulate and create electricity. Charles has mastered Electricity Manipulation over the course of his life. Both in his physical ability to manipulate it and his knowledge about electricity concepts. This allows the user can release and create electricity for offensive purposes with various shapes and intensities depending on the target. Such as charging his fists or several parts of his body in order to increase the strength of his attacks. Electricity is naturally strong against conductive materials such as metals.
Regardless of its powerful nature, electricity is still subjected to weaknesses. It is naturally weak to materials that inhibit the flow of electrical current such as insulators that such as wood, glass, plastic, etc.
Teleportation -- Advanced: The ability to move instantaneously from one place to another. Charles is capable of teleportation over large distances that are several kilometers away as well as short distances. However, in order to teleport one of the two conditions must be met. He must've been in that area before or the place in question needs to be in his line of sight in order to teleport. This allows him to avoid attacks that may otherwise be considered lethal. Charles is also able of teleporting people with him, up to four, as long as they are touching him.
The only drawback of teleportation is that the user needs to focus for at least a few seconds in order to teleport to another location.
backstory
Charles was born and raised in London, England. During his early years, he lived a relatively normal life, however, the threat of terrors was something that had always lurked for centuries. At the age of 4, during a terror attack, his family was attacked by terrors and killed. The last thing he remembered before the death of his parents was to tell him to run as fast as he could. He ran so fast that time turned slow for him and managed to get away from the threat. It didn't take long for the TRS to show up, although it was already too late. On his last breath, his father had told the hunters to look for him. It didn't take long for the TRS to track him down. Afterward, he was sent to the orphanage, with his parents gone. Charles felt alone and confused, without any idea as to how to proceed. He spent around a week in the orphanage before a hunter from the TRS arrived and decided to adopt him. After being taken in the person that had adopted him revealed that they were a hunter and gave him an explanation about the one's responsible, the terrors. As time passed, Charles grew up and began to train to join the TRS once he became 18 years old. It had been discovered that he was gifted and possessed special abilities. After graduating from high school he joined the TRS as a hunter and was accepted into the local university, studying physics as a side thing from his job as a hunter. This was mainly because of his gift, electricity manipulation, and time manipulation, he was extremely unfamiliar with the ability to manipulate time and was the thing he struggled the most to control. Despite his tragic past, Charles had become an ambitious and idealistic man with a strong will and desire. After having experienced such a tragic event, he desired not to have anyone else experience the same thing he had gone through. His entrance to the TRS was a new chapter of his life, he quickly rose through the ranks and became an elite hunter. Regarded as a prodigy and genius, his gifts proved to be quite useful against the terrors. Time Manipulation was an extremely rare power. His unpredictable, unconventional tactics proved to make him a foe that shouldn't be underestimated. As time passed, he became known as "the Fool."
Everything to be going well, one could say that Charles had beginner's luck, but he was also inexperienced. One day a town nearby had been attacked by terrors and it was said that high-ranking members of the Assembly of Phantoms were present. He was dispatched alongside the rest of his unit to deal with the threat, confident in his ability, Charles fought against the AP with the best of his ability, but proved to be no match against them. The town had been overrun by terrors and his comrades he had known for years were dying one after another one. Out of desperation and frustration, he attempted to rewind time to a point where he could the death of his comrades, but it resulted in a failure. Such an attempt almost ended up costing his life as he was attacked by time itself for attempting to alter the flow of time. Even if he was able to manipulate and control time itself, it had limitations and laws he had to abide by. He managed to escape the battle and retreat, with less than half of his unit remaining after the attack.
This had affected him mentally, he was confident, he believed and had a strong will to protect the ones below him, yet with such power, he was unable to do anything. This made him feel frustrated, he realized how naive he was and how over-confident he was. If he was smarter, he could've thought of another way to save his comrades without a need to go as far as to attempt to rewind time hours prior to the operation or maybe even a whole day prior. Charles spent several weeks stuck in his apartment, without going outside. After some time passed and some convincing, he was transferred to Lorsotte, Canada. Followed by that, he decided to transfer to the Scout division there. Preferably wanting to avoid any sort of combat. He had become a shadow of his former self, becoming lazy with little desire to give his best. Regardless of that, he continued to do his job as a member of the TRS, but with less motivation than he used to have in his early years.
