Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Yet another alias, this one Kaylie. Shouldn’t he be unsurprised at this point? Especially given the few, chaotic things he’d learned about her.
Daichi had watched the previous conversation unfold with a smirk on his lips, this one his true feeling. Maybe he had just agreed to something absolutely ridiculous but it wouldn’t be the first time he’d played a roll he never really belonged in. What was delicious was watching Ruby/Mikaela/Kaylie seemingly prod her associate with cautious eyes. This was certainly something that he shouldn’t be involved with.
Perfect.
He mused over which alias would be best to give the man and, much to his own amusement, settled for none. Having heavy associations with an assassin could get Ruby in trouble with the wrong people. Good. Maybe he could get some answers this time. Besides, it was just pretend.
“Daichi Takeshi,” he said coolly before turning to address Ruby’s insistence that they leave to a more-pleasant location which he knew for a fact might be less pleasant. Granted he didn’t really blame her reluctance to get him further away from another contact of hers – the last one had ended up dead.
Blood red eyes sparkled in his direction with false promises but, once again, he supposed he should play the part. Better to have fun with it though.
“And skip my birthday cake? Really now, just because you love me doesn’t mean you can avoid eating some sugar every now and then,” he leaned down toward a menu that was propped up on the bar and tapped the most decadent one of the menu with his finger twice, “this one and then we can play. Like you promised.”
The last words were so sweet sounding that even Daichi wanted to wash his mouth out with soap. Still, it was all part of pushing her buttons. Clearly this hit wasn’t happening anywhere around Ruby so he’d given up for the time being. Keyword time being.
Daichi smiled sweetly in her direction then shot a piercing glance at her contact as though to wordlessly tell him to buzz off. It probably wouldn’t work but at least it might be convincing enough for him to be alone with Ruby… if only to see her irritation bubble over.

Mikaela pursed her lips as Touri introduced himself to her cousin. She was sure that had been a mistake, even if she couldn’t immediately think of a way that giving a fake name might be used against him. And it had to be a fake name. No matter how smoothly he’d said it, no assassin would be stupid enough to hand out their true name to shady figures, much less in association with her. Then again, she couldn’t care less if he put a target on his own back. She was more worried about how her local family would use her association with an assassin against her. It would certainly make things more difficult than they had to be. [break][break] She barely listened as Touri threw another curveball into their ruse. A birthday. She hadn’t celebrated one of those since she was a child, and even then it was only a silly party at a school for a fake birthday under a name that wasn’t even her own. "Don't worry about cake now, love," She gently grabbed his hand, thumb tracing the phantom of a scar she'd left over a year ago. She didn't have to look to know it would be largely faded by now. She lowered her voice as she continued but made sure that it was still loud enough for her cousin to be able to make out what she as saying. "I've got something special planned for that back home." [break][break] "Adrian Lye," he introduced. Mikaela couldn't tell whether he was playing at something or trying to distract from another lovey-dovey scene. Either way it was unacceptable. [break][break] "What the hell Kerosene? It took me six months to convince you to tell me your name!" Not to mention she wasn't sure whether the assassin behind her would remember her last name and link the two of them. She certainly didn't want it to seem like this idiot was family. [break][break] "You were trying to frame me for murder." he replied, sounding way too reasonable for Mikaela’s liking. [break][break] "We’ve been over this, I can’t frame you for a murder you committed in front of me. That’s just called reporting information to the police!" she huffed, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "Besides, you started it! You threatened to skin me alive and you stole my apple." [break][break] Mikaela's cousin scoffed and she rolled her eyes. "That wasn’t a threat, dear cousin, it was a plan of action. And it still stands! Just as soon as your daddy’s pro-" [break][break] She cut him off before he could say something that would get her in too much trouble. "You big scary men and your excuses," she pouted, glancing back at the assassin who still hadn’t successfully killed her. [break][break] "Says the queen of excuses," he shot back. [break][break] "Oh..." she muttered, stumbling over what to say for a moment before blurting out "A fanabla!" with a particularly offensive Italian hand gesture. [break][break] "And spend an eternity with you? No thanks." he shook his head, then turned to Touri. "You're in for a life of torment with this one." [break][break] Mikaela threw her hands up and rolled her eyes, turning away from her cousin to grab her “drink”. There was no winning such an argument with an idiot.
What unfolded at his not so subtle name drop was a font of information on the woman before him. Family really could be annoying at times but it seemed as though Mikaela Lye – and he was happy to know this was at least, in part, tyed to a semi-real family – was not on good terms with her beloved family.
Murder? Stealing? He split his gaze between the two and simply let the answers come to him.
It really only occurred to him now that Ruby had been holding his hand. Strange that he had completely missed that. She had been tracing the scar from her knife wound, whether intentionally or not.
Of course, her hands were gone now, crossed over her chest in the most convincing pout Daichi had ever seen. In fact, he almost dared to call it adorable. A thin line of annoyance traced on her dark brow as the fiery centers of her gaze bore into this poor Adrian Lye person.
“I love torment, what can I say,” he quipped back with a smirk before sending a look at Mikaela, “I also love cake,” the last word was most certainly emphasized. Cake or they’d be dealing with her family member for the next few hours which, he was certain, she didn't want.
Just to make a point, it would be better to be certain this conversation couldn’t end too prematurely.
“You know she told me she hated you but I can’t understand why, you seem well versed on murder and all the important things in life,” he leaned forward on the bar, adapting a more casual posture. If the man wanted to murder him, he probably would’ve already tried. Besides, it almost seemed as though anything Ruby was involved in seemed to just spontaneously combust so surely this man had the same problem what with being related to her, “she also told me you were a poor shot which I guess makes you more of the stabby sort. Naturally, I approve.”
Daichi didn’t dare look at Mikaela as he asked the next question, trying to grab whatever information her relative was willing to share. Well, that was only part of it, the other was to annoy his “fiancé”.
“Now what was that part about her father? I seem to have missed that,” he settled his gaze on the man, perhaps a little too serious.

Mikaela watched Touri carefully as he spoke. He was pressing the cake thing a bit too hard. Was it drugged or something? She didn't know how he could have drugged a cake he hadn't seen yet, but maybe he had drugged the whole supply. If that was the case it could mean trouble for the casino. How would they possibly sort out all of those poisoned cakes from the rest? Then again, people rarely ordered the cake. Cake was a terrible excuse for a treat that no one would ever really ask for at a casino. [break][break] She let out a deep sigh as he began fabricating insults about her cousin. She may have considered interrupting, but this would save her time coming up with similar insults later. "I believe my exact words were a boring shot," she grumbled, just to eliminate any doubt that she might disagree with the allegations. [break][break] She clucked her tongue as he went on to ask about her father. Her cousin shouldn't have mentioned him. She didn't want to think about the man, much less did she want anyone in Canada knowing anything about him. [break][break] "You're engaged to her, I’m sure you’ve met him." her cousin replied, "I have a theory he's the reason Kaylie isn't dead yet." [break][break] Mikaela coughed to cover a laugh, earning herself another one of her cousin’s glares. "Sorry, sorry. It’s just that-" she broke off in another fit of laughter, then cleared her throat and attempted to compose her face back into something resembling calm. "I may be traditional but I’m not stupid enough to have made him ask my father for my hand if that’s what you’re thinking. I prefer him alive and in one piece." [break][break] She met her cousin's gaze until he broke it to look at Touri. "If only your girl here shared the same set of values as you in regards to murder and bloodshed. She hates everyone but my sister," Adrian drawled. [break][break] "No, I hate your sister too," Mikaela cut in matter-of-factly. Adrian’s sister may have been adorable and she may have tolerated the young girl far more than the rest of her family, but that was only because their interactions served a purpose in some of the webs Mikaela was spinning. [break][break] Her interjection did little to distract Adrian from his train of thought. "Funny though, I don’t understand why she’d like you. Unless little Kaylie’s been lying to us." His gaze returned to Mikaela and she shook her head. "Did charity work finally get too boring." [break][break] She could see the line Adrian’s mind was going down. He wanted something more to use against her. It would be great for his status within the family. She could handle that if it weren’t for Touri’s sudden insistence on cutting away at the safety nets she has in place. Things were starting to get interesting for everyone but her. [break][break] "Lying? To you and your family? Never," she shook her head. For half a second her gaze caught on the familiar form of a tardy card dealer slipping through the casino and Mikaela quickly turned her crimson eyes toward the assassin beside her. It was probably time to bring this whole messy situation to as clean of a close as she could. "What can I say? There’s no controlling the heart." Mikaela placed a hand on the assassin’s shoulder and stood on her toes to plant a kiss on his lips. Between the scheme she was playing and the fact that the PDA was sure to annoy her cousin the simple action was exhilarating. This was almost going to be too easy. [break][break] By the time she pulled away the dealer from before had caught sight of them and Mikaela’s face twisted into a smile. "Oh my is that Amery?" This little game may have been a brief entertainment for the assassin but she felt certain he wouldn’t keep it up with his actual girlfriend in the picture.
The assassin supposed that it had been a shot in the dark to try and get more information on his lovely faux fiancé. Still, he had to try. Instead, what ensued was a quip of verbal blows that would draw Anzu’s attention from 10 miles away. Daichi, cut from the same cloth, at least kept his expression the same as he tried to analyze the conversation between relatives.
For a moment he found himself incredibly amused at the suggestion that Mikaela Lye did any kind of charity work. Imagine Ruby reading to young children at a library or handing out food at a soup kitchen. He almost snickered. Almost.
Until Ruby changed her tune and kissed him on the lips.
It was a call on his bluff he was not prepared for. Then, to further throw him off, she spoke words he’d rather ignore. Daichi’s eyes traced the club to land directly on the woman who’s bed he’d slipped out of this morning. A thick mop of blonde hair coupled with the characteristic dark circles as she trudged through the club more like a zombie.
How was she here? He’d fed her enough to keep her out for at least half the day. Daichi didn’t have time to process the fact that Ruby had just planted a kiss on him but rather looked down to the nearest clock. Holy shit. Had Ruby really stalled him that long? This night was definitely falling apart quick. Daichi wanted to scowl at the misfortune that had just crawled over to him but instead a small thought permeated his natural killer instincts.
He'd already lost this assassination. Tonight, was about making things uncomfortable for the lovely saboteur who’d been responsible for that.
“You guys talk too much,” Daichi replied gruffly before lacing his fingers with Ruby’s. If she wanted to keep this little act up, he’d lean into it more. The assassin pulled her lightly, just enough that if she broke away from his lead prematurely it might look like a dissonance of relationship.
As they got further away from her relative, they got closer to one of the card tables that was being set up. By a late dealer with blonde hair. Daichi flopped down on the stool in front of her and then pulled Mikaela close to him in what could only be yet another PDA.
It was time for work drama. What would they do after all, fire him? Once Amery noticed the two it was going to be an absolute shit show. A perfect escape for him really. Possibly even future problems for his fiancé. How fitting. He released his grip from Mikaela before she bit his hand off and sat back, ready to enjoy the show.

Mikaela felt a wave of disappointment as Touri didn’t vehemently react to her announcement of Amery’s presence. A part of her had hoped this would bring their act to a close and her cousin would be left stranded. Then she wouldn’t have to deal with either of them for a long time. Instead things continued swirling out of control as Touri drew them away from the bar to Amery’s table.
[break][break]
No, no, no. She didn’t know what she’d been expecting, but stirring up drama on the casino floor was off limits. She was off duty so it was Amery who would get in actual trouble for any fighting, but one of the few things Mikaela respected was the systematic flow of the casino. Everything was in its place, a perfect scheme to convince people to part with their money. It was such a pity to do anything that might hinder the con that was occurring.
[break][break]
Alas, she wasn’t able to stop the coming storm and as she focused on embracing it she realised she could still turn this back to her own advantage. Assuming her goal was to torture the stupid assassin that had decided to make an appearance in her territory, of course. So she continued to play along with the act, swaying lightly as she positioned herself behind Touri and wrapped her arms around him.
[break][break]
“Bet something big,” she drawled as Amery began dealing out another hand. Mikaela noted a slight hesitation as she reached their side of the table. There was a tension in Amery’s motions as she continued, but to her credit she finished distributing the cards before turning her gaze fully to the pair of them. Anger and hurt flitted through those green orbs of hers, so at odds with the amusement Mikaela’s face reflected back. The brunette lifted her hand to her lips, a silent signal that they could talk after this deal.
[break][break]
Amery pursed her lips but turned her attention back to the bets that were making their way around the table. Mikaela leaned over Touri to grab a napkin from under their neighbour’s drink, winking at them in response to their glare. She then pulled a pen out of her pocket and scrawled her phone number across the napkin before slipping it to Touri. She wasn’t sure how much longer their interaction would continue once Amery got to butt in and she was hoping he’d stay in contact with her to deal with the family dinner and fake relationship he’d gotten her stuck in. It was naive to assume he had any plans of following through, but it would be so much easier on her if he did.
Daichi almost chortled at Mikaela Lye’s attempts to sink him into a trap. Betting would require staying at this table far longer than he had initially planned. The dark-haired man briefly watched Amery’s stiffened movements from the corner of his eye. Rarely did a plan align so fortuitously than this one. Tell Amery they were through “dating” and release himself from the clutches of a certain Neko.
As Ruby slipped the napkin into his hand Daichi tucked it up his sleeve in a subtle motion as the cards were dealt. Sage eyes feigned surprise as the phone in his pocket began to vibrate on cue. Really, as much as he hated technology, it did have its uses. The man promptly picked up the phone, holding a finger up to Mikaela as though to say one minute. A quick furrow of his brow occurred as he pretended to become enraptured in a conversation that didn’t exist before Daichi turned to his overseer.
“I need to make a quick business call,” he’d already fake hung up the phone by now, locking eyes with those smoldering ruby orbs, “put in a bet for me love.”
He slipped his hands into one of his pockets and pressed a sizable amount of chips into her palm before swiftly pressing a kiss to her lips. Why were they so delicate? Women, really. If she wanted to save face with her co-worker, she'd be stuck playing the round so he had a few minutes before she followed him. If she followed him.
Daichi pulled out his phone, looking at the actual source of his ‘call’. A different casino tonight? Curious.
He didn’t dare see if Mikaela was following him as he put the phone to his mouth, pretending to grab a cigarette before realizing that the cat-eared woman still had the entire pack hostage. A brief flash of irritation stabbed at his brow though he quickly recovered. Daichi slid out the back door and, upon seeing that nobody was gracing the trash-lined dead end, stepped out of view of what he would assume was camera before shifting into his spider form.
With his prey now surfaced he had little time to think about Mikaela Lye and why their faux romance irritated him so. Imagining Mikaela Lye in a relationship with anyone was comical at best. Surely nobody would lack the sense of self preservation needed to have any sort of affection for her. Yet, he had agreed to a very awkward family dinner…
No, this was purely to get more information. She was hiding something for sure and if she was going to keep showing up to ruin things, well, the more he knew about her the better off he’d be.
