Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
It could be a good development should it be possible they gain a positive relationship. c: Plus with some of the personal plotting around Arlo, it could be a good relationship for him to have. Side note, there is a plan for him to be kicked out of his grandpa's home when he refuses to do crime anymore because he wants Nicholas to be happier with him. If not, we could always think of an interesting enemy dynamic; although, I still need some more thoughts for interesting interactions. c:
I like the drama around Takumi needing a moment to think since Arlo could possibly overreact because of his clingy behavior. Arlo does have a tendancy to believe that separation could result in the person returning and believing him to be a possible monster, so he would definitely be upset if they got close prior. It also would result in him thinking that Takumi did indeed abandon him which could possibly create some interesting arguments between himself and Takumi when he tries to connect again; or even an amusing sense of wariness and tension between them.
With the injury route, should it be Takumi hurt, I will say that establishing some sort of bond between Arlo and Takumi prior would be best! Considering his criminal alignment, Arlo would be hesitant to assist somebody out of concern for them possibly being his enemy. Thus once they have some sort of definition of a bond, even if vague since Arlo is clingy, he would definitely be more interested in helping Takumi; especially if he insisted in an escape, even if it was an accident! c:

However, should it be Arlo escaped Coastal and Outskirt streets would be the best bet! Outskirts being a criminal hangout, it would likely be easy for Arlo to slither away, but Coastal could prove difficult which could be useful for the sake of Takumi assisting in his escape. :3 Feel free to make suggestions towards this or ask for more info as needed!
Agreed, though, obviously, we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves either. If they don't end up getting along in the end, then it could lead to a whole different direction of threads. Which isn't an idea I am opposed to either. Likewise, I'd need to muse over it a bit more should that happen, but I have a few rough ideas for how Takumi could view Arlo as an enemy of sorts. As I've said before, Takumi is a pacifist, so I could see that if they don't get along after Takumi finds out he's a criminal, he could twist his view of TRS when Arlo joins. Basically, he could barely see it as an improvement since they're still fighting, people are still dying. And also, if after joining TRS Arlo tried to prevent Takumi from getting involved in any terror attacks for his own safety, he probably would not appreciate it. We could even potentially work in Takumi's sub-plot with finding his mom since she's missing and I've yet to decide why or if she's dead or alive. Depends on how involved we want these two to get into each other's backstories, though. But, again, still super rough ideas, I'd need to think on it more.
As do I. I think that tensions increasing between them by Takumi needing some space could add a little more drama. Takumi might even take offense to Arlo thinking he would just abandon him without a word. It would easily remind him of his mom leaving, and since Takumi is very family-oriented he'd be irritated that Arlo thought so lowly of him if he considered them to be close. While Takumi does care dearly for his mom, he's still bitter about her leaving and would not dream of doing the same. Obviously, Arlo doesn't know this though and understandably with his past could think Takumi was doing exactly what his servant girl did in the past. Arguments could definitely ensue from this, which could be interesting and possibly lead to them taking more of an enemies route in the future. As for the whole injury filler, we could do a different filler before it to establish more of a relationship (something casual, considering the drama we have in the works for their future), we could have Arlo be the one hurt since Takumi would readily help anyone injured, or we could scrap that idea and go in a different direction. Since we had the meet over Arlo escaping from a crime scene, maybe they could encounter each other when Takumi is some remnants of terror activity. Crime's higher in areas with more terror attacks, so it's not entirely improbable that they would run into each other. These are all just ideas of course and if you have any preferences or other thoughts, feel free to share. We can also just focus on the initial thread for now and save the details of future ones for later. You know, see how they get along at the start and then work from there?
Op, I didn't even realize the streets were closed, lol. Probably should have scene there was no "new thread" button. But the coastal area works too I think. Since Takumi is still new to the city, I could definitely see him scoping out high crime areas to get a better idea of what he's looking for. But he probably wouldn't head straight to the outskirts to start, since it's pretty dangerous and he's not completely stupid. Coastal sounds best, it's relatively safe for Takumi with the higher amount of tourists, and also adds a layer of difficulty to Arlo's escape. I'll hop right on that thread, obviously respond at your leisure and, again, feel free to let me know if anything needs changing for you to work Arlo's crime in. c:

Sorry for being slow. ^^' My brain sometimes decides not to work. Both sides will definitely be fun since depending on the drastic nature of their parting from the criminal activity, Arlo could get violent. Which could make interesting, resulting in some difficulty and would be the likely way he would react towards Takumi being an enemy; heck, if they reconnect this could be a temporary thing resulting in Arlo being required to apologize. It could even bring them closer or could be a somewhat permanent option should they remain, enemies; naturally depending on escalation or decreasing aggression. c: Also the fact that he would see Arlo joining the TRS as barely an improvement would be interesting in itself considering challenging views is always interesting. Also, Arlo should at least protect him, even as enemies since it would be neat! That could be amusing to join that subplot too since it could inspire Arlo to search for his own mother in curiosity since he was taken from her around when he was first born.[break][break]
The intensity is what makes it amazing since they could both gain offence from the actions of each other! It could even result in a more heated arguments between one another. Since Arlo is extremely clingy, he would also be upset because he would never just abandon someone he cares about out of the blue. In fact, maybe prior to them separating, Takumi could tell Arlo about his mother? He would be interested and it could spark a strange curiosity for Arlo to follow; maybe even resulting in him hearing smack about his mom from his grandpa. [break][break]
As said, I can deal with any being injured. c: Although, Arlo may be a better choice for a longer period of bonding since Arlo could heal himself via a healing hex. We could set that thread up where my boy is low on energy and injured so Takumi has plenty to do; plus, why not play with the hemophobic person that way? lol Also, random question I would pop here in case you want Takumi injured, but would Takumi be opposed to healing hexes? They do use blood in order to function, so Arlo is making a circle with symbols all out of blood.[break][break]
It's all good! I was not sure how far it allowed someone, so I wanted to mention to avoid a "PROBOARDS ATE MY THREAD" incident. x.x You write incredible, long posts, so it would be a shame to hear it was destroyed. ;-; Coastal makes sense, and as stated, works better since Arlo would have more difficult escaping on account of the tourism and citizens in the area. Either way, I feel like this could be interesting considering Octavio would be assuming his disguise as the Puppet Master; essentially making this a relationship to earn his favouring. It will mostly depend on the results of the first thread since Octavio here has a naturally cynical nature, but I can see potential. Since Octavio is also a soldier and/or since he possess branding, we could potentially use the set up of Tyler possessing the information about a particular target the Assembly of Phantoms have deemed to have valuable information.

This could be in the light of an interesting job where Tyler needs more information, since the Puppet Master is fairly renown for his capabilities in branding another individual. If Tyler would be willing to ask for assistance under these circumstances. I mostly see their friendship possibly budding from work, since it appears to be the more likely path considering they both have ties to the Assembly. Unless you desire something more amusing where Tyler meets Octavio off duty, unbeknowst to his true identity and attempts to gain information from him and they perhaps meet in the future under coworker circumstances.

FELIX and Vanya- I think interactions/friendship between these two could be interesting! IDK, I can easily see them having #deep conversations while traveling together or something.
PERSEPHONE and Vanya- OOOOH goodness I think there could be a really fun and interesting thread here. Van comes from a very hardcore extremist Hell Is The Only Way family, but she herself is not at all about it. She very obviously looks hellish too, and I think would be a great person to help challenge Percy's views of Hell races like you're asking for.
As said, all plots with Felix are 100% welcomed since they don't get enough attention. Either way, I feel like this would be interesting, especially because Felix can be a bit of a loner themself. They don't really seek attention unless the person has information they require. However, I love the idea of deep conversations between them! It sounds super interesting especially since those are the types of conversations which keep Felix engaged! Maybe for these two, Vanya had information about something AP related if possible?

It is just a spitball idea since there are a plethora of possibilities for my fiercely independently blind informant. Heck, Felix is known to head to public locations and just listen in hopes of detecting new information on behalf of the TRS.
A view challenger is very welcomed, especially one who came from an extremist family! I most enjoy this because Vanya's family was heavily against Heaven species while Percy here is obviously the opposite after everything she has been through. I think their initial interactions would be a little difficult since Vanya does have visible hellhound traits, but once these two start interacting more, it could become very interesting to read through. Maybe for a starter thread, we try and think of something which establishes a forced interaction?

While this would be a suggestion which would need to be AU, Persephone did briefly work elsewhere to please her crush, Kayla Ann, so maybe they were coworkers? That would force Persephone to have to keep her opinions tamed and could heighten in interest when Persephone suddenly quits (she quits when Kayla gets kidnapped and returns to her original job). Either way, I think that could be a good way to enforce a civilized conversation, albeit, a little one-sided at first.
PERSEPHONE and Vanya: The forced interaction sounds great! I could get us a thread going where maybe Vanya is helping someone physically (like they're trapped under something in an accident etc) and Percy comes in and is either AH YOU ARE KILLING THEM I HURT YOU or Yo What The Heck That's Not Normal? And I think we can probably work something in with her crush, I'd just have to know where she worked. Van is very much a physical laborer, so if it was somewhere like a library she'd probably just be Book Moving Lady.
FELIX and Vanya: I can have Van come into town and maybe make some offhanded comment about her/hell races and Felix could get interested? I'm sure we can get these two chatting, I think she would find them interesting at the very least. I'll be honest and say I'm not sure if Van is going to have any company involvement on either side, but maybe this thread can get her thinking about it :3c
That would definitely work! Felix is a curious one so they would not mind lending an ear! Especially if they were having troubles finding information that day; so I can add that in too for extra confirmation. <3 Also, Felix might do that, they are kind of hush about their occupation since they fear the possibility of being attacked. They would probably talk about it more vaguely with cautious word choice and such. c:
A labourer is actually the most likely choice for Persephone since in her other career at this time (assassination) she would be required to exercise to avoid being overpowered easily. Furthermore, her education comes into questionable origins since she was "homeschooled" by her father while they travelled around the world. As for her helping with a trap, it is plausible considering if we're going with the past timeline since Kayla desired for her to change. She would probably use her water manipulation to help them get out because that is where most of her power lies.

Honestly, she would probably just glare when they came out. XD While she does despise hell species, she can keep it quiet for the purposes of not drawing suspicion. Doesn't mean she won't show it in subtle ways, like glaring.

Nathan Beckard & Severus Cross
I would definitely enjoy this because of their overlapping experiences! I can definitely see them butting heads at first since, well, Nathan is not always the easiest to handle. He would definitely clash with Severus' personality at times until they at least come to some sort of relationship. As for pre-established, Nathan has another person apart from his brother who died by terrors. This includes a nanny of his who died when he was around 10 years old. With Severus' age, maybe he was on the scene or something like that during the event? Or in the aftermath? I am not sure if he is one to deliver news, but I can see Nathan being a bit of a jerk about it. Would probably make it bad and ask "Why didn't you save her?" if we go down that route. That's if you like this idea! I am up for anything and wanted to mention it as a possible pre-established since I know the position of Nathan's former mentor is taken. c:
Emmerson Halogan & Severus Cross
This was an idea I am really excited about! I have had yet for Emmerson to have a sergeant, so. XD I do fancy the idea you described with Emmet constantly staring at him like "Why are you like this?" because I feel Severus would confuse him at times. Especially with how non-chill he can be since, despite his nobleman ties, Emmet is an extremely casual lieutenant; literally lets everyone in his unit called him Emmet. Another spitball for this friendship is I believe you mentioned Severus smokes in Discord (correct me if I am wrong). So maybe sometimes they smoke together so they could have more "casual" interactions and Emmet can think what? at some of the actions. Emmet believes his lieutenant and noble status no longer holds as much weight in the TRS since he tried very hard to make things casual. >.> As for the bad influence, I can see the potential and am amused by it! By all regards, Emmet is a bit of a goody-two-shoes, so seeing someone at least try to influence him sounds really funny since it can be another awkward layer of their friendship. XD
Brasti Vanderfeld & Severus Cross
Glad to hear because I have been craving a distrust plot for Brasti! I am really into the idea since Brasti has a somewhat condescending way of acting and honestly, Severus' distrust would amuse him. I fancy the idea of it starting with distrust and gradually forming into a friendship! Heck, if you want, we could even add a plot later on where they have to rely on one another because of dire circumstances and group separation. It could be how they come to trust one another where they have to work together and fight alongside one another. If you do not mind that idea of course. <3 As for the manipulation tactic teaching, I would enjoy that! I think it would be really funny for Brasti to be like "Well, usually I hack and find what I want, but here is a neat trick!" XD He would treat it like parlor magic. lol
Octavio Kremlen & Severus Cross
AH! Then Octavio is doing his intention in some weird way! Among the Assembly of Phantoms, Octavio is one of the more mysterious members since he wears a full-blown disguise with a trench coat, boats with a thicker sole to make him taller, a gas mask respiration type thing that covers his whole face (even has voice changer) with a hatch to reveal his binding eye and clothes of dark colours. In short, Octavio kinda has two identities, one being Octavio and the other the infamous Puppet Master. So for rivalry, you would likely be dealing with his Puppet Master side which could definitely be a thorn in Severus' side! A doll manipulating sneak who the TRS or police cannot figure out his identity. A fun thing we could do is maybe they accidentally become acquaintances? So maybe after Octavio pulls a Puppet Master stunt, he can hear about how much Severus hates that guy? Just an amusing thought I had if you are up to it! I don't mind if it is even Octavio needs to overhear it if we go down that route. Either way, Octavio would gladly clash with him and it would be interesting giving him a rival to deal with it. <3
SEVERUS CROSS + NATHAN BECKARD[break][break] oh hold up-- that being on scene for the nanny idea. i'm living for it. i'd imagine that severus would have put his all in to trying to save her but perhaps something as too many terrors all at once. severus being severus would want to tell him himself what happened and wouldn't blame nathan for being upset about that but god, moving forward severus would have no idea nathan is that same kid since i'd imagine a lot of time has past and nathan would have to tell him himself. it'd be interesting if nathan held a mini grudge over that and was one of the reasons why they could butt heads! Then this could be extra fun! I like the idea of Nathan recognizing him and asking because he is still broken up about losing her... Nathan has problems losing people. Maybe if we wanted to make a plot that comes full-circle, Nathan could be placed in Severus's position? As in maybe at one point a family member of a kid dies and he gets asked that same question? Could bring their head butting to an interesting end with some sympathizing. Just adding some more spitballs here!
Emmerson Halogan & Severus Cross
OOOOH! THAT SOUNDS SUPER INTERESTING! Because then Emmet can wonder Why does he act so different when he smokes? and be even more confused. Plus it would be nice to kinda have those, for lack of a better word, gentle moments where Emmet can see more layers of Severus. Either way, it would be an interesting difference for Emmet to see. <3 Also, Emmet is not sure, he has a bad feeling Severus' chaos will bring him paperwork! XD
Brasti Vanderfeld & Severus Cross
Ooooh! That would work. Maybe it is a larger case and with short staffing, they were forced to take resources/people from unit 1? That would explain why Brasti would be pestering him. I imagine TRS can be stretched thin sometimes, so it would work as an excuse for their partnership. That and Brasti is capable of fieldwork; he used to be a soldier for Hell's army. Heck, if you want to add additional reasons for Severus to not trust him, Brasti betrayed Hell to protect his soulmate. So we could have that rumour circling around. >.> So that would add to his brother, Xander, being Assembly and his wife Lilliana being "former Assembly" (she was a spy).
Octavio Kremlen & Severus Cross
I fancy this idea a lot with Octavio maybe even attempting to get closer to Severus. >.> Sergeants are useful in his occupation, so he would want to try and be on good terms with him! As for the truth bomb, it may take some time. XD I really want to savour my time playing Octavio the way he is because I really enjoy the concept. I am still on the fence on if or when it will happen as a brief warning. Although, I will be sure to keep you updated on it since it would be fun pissing Severus off. <3 So far only Phoenix and Jaxx know Octavio's identities.
