Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2022
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
The sound of a loud bell echoing within the café could he heard as the dirty blonde haired teen stepped inside. Snow was everywhere on him and once again he was dusting himself off whilst moving the next available seat as far away from the front door as possible. He had just bought groceries for his family and upon returning Kenneth had remembered some other garbage he wanted. If this continued he was going to kill his family before they were able to request anything else from him.
He had to do as he was told, but he certainly was going to take his time doing so. Especially when it was minus forty below outside...or at least it felt that way to him. And snow...why was it always snowing here?!
One of the stupid workers were looking at him probably wondering if he was going to order, but they could wait until he was damn well ready to do so. He shot them an open glare before glancing outside to the window whilst rubbing his arms. But the sight of the winter frost land was only depressing and he promptly found his phone to begin playing on that...only to stop midway when he realised the stupid thing was just as cold as outside.
"I hate this place..." he muttered out as he brought his gaze back towards the window to glare death rays out at it.
Alfonse quickly learned that winters in Lorsette were extremely cold, much colder than they were in Chastain or Ruen. He hadn't assimilated to the weather and it would probably take a lot of time for that to even be possible.... for now, he had to rely on layers of warm clothes and a bulky coat to supply the heat his body was unable to naturally produce for him. The boy had kept his winter jacket on after entering the cafe and even now after having been sitting in the window booth he'd chosen out twenty minutes ago, he still had on the same layers he'd left the manor with.
After being inside, Alfonse did feel considerably less chilly. The cafe was comfortably warm and the aroma of coffee and baked goods wafted in the air long enough for him to feel a little hungrier. He, however, had tried waiting for his mother to arrive before ordering anything. Worriedly, he checked the clock on the wall for a multiple time, and noticed that fifteen minutes had passed since when his mother said she'd be there. He wanted to be early, just in case... but it looked as though his mother was going to be 'fashionably late' as she liked to call it.
As the time passed he was met with disappointment when seeing the few people who'd gone in and out for a quick order were certainly not his mother. His face fell into an almost downtrodden sulk as his shoulders slouched and he looked in front of him at the empty seat. The seat where earlier this morning his mother promised she'd be sitting in.
M-maybe she just.... had something unexpected come up. It wouldn't be the first time.... but, now, he was in an unfamiliar city and felt a severe unease at the thought of his mother not showing up at all. He didn't have a means of getting back to his grandparent's residence for another hour and a half.... which meant he was on his own if she didn't show up at all.
He'd been waiting long enough to where Alfonse, finally, caved in and tried to distract himself by ordering a drink to help pass the time more smoothly. With there being no line, he found himself right at the front of the register while trying to read the menu.
Promptly Alfonse was met with a woman who whizzed around the corner of the counter and startled him with a teasing, "You finally ordering something?"
Alfonse tensed, his eyes growing large in surprise from the worker who seemingly appeared out of nowhere... and had noticed he'd been sitting by himself. It almost embarrassed him that someone noticed.... was he being rude by sitting and taking so long to order something?
His face warmed and sheepishly, he gave her a small nod. "What can I get for you?" She asked, and although unintended, it caused Alfonse to feel pressured on deciding what to get. Being the only customer didn't help, either, as she had no one else to help and her ears seared through him. The first name he saw on the menu, he quickly decided on using. "I-I will order the hot chocolate, please," He quietly told her and the woman barely heard him over the sound of the brewing coffee pot. She leaned closer, leaning an ear towards him. "Did you say hot chocolate?"
"Yes, please," Alfonse replied with a small, polite smile. "What kind of milk would you like? And size?" She went on to ask him, her voice quick and in routine with conversing with customers. It wasn't something Alfonse was used to and caused him to feel a little flustered... since he had no idea how to order a hot chocolate from here. W-was there different kinds of milk...? "U-um..." He softly murmured, somewhat fidgeting in place, ".I would like... normal milk... and a medium sized cup,"
The woman looked mildly confused by his order, of which Alfonse took notice of and his feelings of embarrassment were solidified. She made her own assumptions on what normal milk meant and simply smiled, providing Alfonse with the cost of the drink before being provided the proper payment amount as she went around to make it right in front of him. The sound of a blender went off in the background from a different worker, filling the room with its loud roaring of crunching ice, before Alfonse was given his hot chocolate and the boy gently took it into his hands. "Be careful, that's piping hot!" She warned him and Alfonse lightly smiled her way as he took a step back from the counter, "Thank you,"
Turning around in a hurry, his mind was set on getting back to his booth without drawing more attention to himself. Unfortunately, left over melted snow that'd been tracked in by other customers regularly popping in and out of the cafe had other plans. His foot met contact with slick flooring from a left over sludge of melted ice, causing his heel to loudly squeak off the ground and send him clumsily slipping forward and almost crashing into a booth next to the one he'd previously sat in. His drink fell from his hand and flew forward, much like his own foot did, hurling in the direction of a young man whom sat dangerous close. The lid of his hot chocolate opened from the pressure, causing the steam to explode from the container and droplets of screaming hot chocolate to splatter all over the place.
With a loud CRASH, Alfonse fell to the floor barely a second later, sputtering whatever remains of snow sludge off into distant and unknown directions.
At least the place was warm. He was actually able to take off his jacket after a little bit despite being so cold moments ago. It was then that Nicolas noted the vacancy of the café minus one redhead and some other black haired dude reading a newspaper. But he equated that to the fact that it was an ice age outside. Of course, Nicolas wasn't exactly dressed for the winter...and that was one of his major issues. The demon didn't have gloves, a toque...in fact the only thing he did have was a jacket with a hood with some fur on the rim. One would think demons could just warm themselves up being immune to fire, but in fact they could control and make fire and last time he checked (seriously he checked) clothes were flammable material.
Santin Warvine, the Conium estate was warmer than Lorsette and he didn't have to venture out as much as this new place. His family had recently moved and therefore he was required to rush around getting things they needed. The first month was going to remain chaotic, but afterwards it would settle down...at least until they moved again. The thought was sobering for him as he pressed his elbow on the table and rested his chin in his hand. The Conium estate wasn't home to him it was a headquarters. Before his thoughts were able to delve deeper...the dirty blonde caught sight of movement and jerked his gaze towards the redhead who was flipping over.
His beverage lurched forward and the styrofoam cup along with it's contents splashed on his face...his neck and down his shirt. The feeling of water was uncomfortable, but the heat...eh, it was fine. He could feel the burning sensation of the liquid, but it didn't harm him. What human's felt was scorching, they tolerated as heat. It wasn't as if they couldn't feel it, it just wasn't painful for them. He could get uncomfortably hot, but never painfully so...or at least that was his understanding of it. It wasn't as though he had jumped into a lava pit before.
A light sigh left him as he stood up and reached for the nearest napkins to begin wiping off his face. Hot chocolate was the drink from the smell and taste. Though it was too sweet for his liking.
"Are you okay?" The worker who had prepared the drink asked and the dirty blonde glanced to her, but gave no answer. "Here," he spoke up, and reached down to offer the fallen kid a hand up.
The impact of slipping and falling on the ground shocked him from how sudden and quick it happened. Alfonse nearly fell flat onto his face but his arm shielded that from happening, but nonetheless the boy very clumsily and ungracefully landed flat as a pancake and the squeaking sound of his feet and the noise of his cup hitting something may as well have echoed throughout the entire cafe from how quiet it was.
The fall didn't hurt too bad and it was mostly the fact it happened the following embarrassment that effected him as the sight of hot chocolate splashing on the ground around him showed that the drink was no more and he'd made a big mess. Alfonse begun trying to sit up, his arms wobbling from how quickly he was trying to get himself back up, but faltering when hearing a sigh above him from another person.
His expression turned in horror, eyes growing large in panic as he tried scrambling himself back onto his feet. Another person was sitting right there, and he just-- h-he just--! H-he may as well fell right on top of them and threw his drink at them! Wh-what if he did hit them?!
His rushing to stand up caused him to once more, clumsily, slip on the same exact snow-slushed spot he was still stuck on. "Are you okay?" A familiar voice asked them, and Alfonse's face burned as he felt an arm looming in front of him and at first assumed it was the woman... who'd just warned him to be careful when handing him the drink....
When he looked up, he instead saw it was the boy who had been sitting at the booth, now standing away from it to offer him a hand in getting up. His face, neck, and shirt were painted in his spilled hot chocolate massacre and very likely burning the poor innocent guy's skin. The sight amplified Alfonse's horror with what'd happened, seeing what he'd done to someone else because of a stupid mistake... his mistake, because he wasn't being careful!
The sight was enough to cause him to gasp, his face mortified in guilt. "O-oh no, I'm-- I'm very sorry!" He frantically apologized to the teen, whom still offered to help him stand up even after he'd ruined and scorched his clothes. With a shaking hand, he gently grasped the other boys and was careful not to put too much weight on him whilst getting himself back onto his feet. At first, he once more staggered forward, but he quickly caught himself. Without a moment to spare he was quick to ask him, "A-are you okay?!" He forgot about the worker who checked on them and without hesitation, and reached the nearest napkin dispense on the table. He wadded up several as fast as he could and turned back to the blonde, offering them to him and even using a couple in his other hand to start dabbing at the young man's mid-arm where some of the chocolate disaster had splattered.
notes: I wasn't sure what Alfonse would do so I stopped my post there!
It took a bit for the kid underneath him to even realise he was trying to help him up. The stupid worker was watching them like a hawk and he imagined she was waiting for him to attack. She saw the horns and instantly assumed he was all rage and no manners. It wasn't as though Nicolas' wasn't irritated, but the kid had fallen and was still currently falling even while on the floor.
The demon heaved the kid up with ease and was soon bombarded with his immediate concern. It was odd...dealing with someone freaking out over what had happened instead of taking in the obvious that he was a demon. Maybe he hadn't noticed yet? His expression remained distracted as he cocked an eyebrow at the boy as he asked if he was all right and even tried drying him.
"Er...yeah, I'm fine. Don't worry about it." Nicolas told the kid, but didn't stay for conversation. He actually moved away from the shorter teen and right to the dumb worker who was currently still gawking at them.
"I've just had a boiling drink poured all over me from your negligence to keep your floor clean. I'll take a Cappuccino as compensation." His tone was dead serious and was at first met with silence before the worker finally began arguing with him. "You're clearly a demon so your fine." She snapped at him and had an entirely different attitude with his kind than the boy prior she had served. Even the other male worker came over asking if there was a problem.
Specism...he had dealt with it before, but he had more years of being treated better due to mostly being integrated in demon communities. "I want a Cappuccino for your negligence. It's pretty simple."
"We can't offer that--"
"Why? Because I'm not a human or a heaven species?" He returned with that same smug calmness about him as he dealt with the two morons in front of him.
The young man's vocalized assurance that he was all right didn't ease Alfonse's concerns in the least. His eyes fretfully, and in embarrassment, avoided looking up at the other teen and kept focused downwards and seeing that his drink had literally flew absolutely all over the place. Before he could do more of trying to clean off the chocolately spill that'd painted his clothes, the blonde moved out of the way, leaving Alfonse's hands in napkins and his face beating in a warming humiliation of doing this to someone.... h-he should have never ordered anything and just sat in his booth.
"I've just had a boiling drink poured all over me from your negligence to keep your floor clean. I'll take a Cappuccino as compensation."
The worker's response to what he said surprised Alfonse, who right then gave a double-glance in the blonde's way and actually looked up at his face for a good second... and quite belatedly he realized that the victim to his clumsy accident was, in fact, a demon. Which... was why he may have not been more visibly hurt by the steamy liquid hurled his way...
Alfonse froze, caught off guard by being close... to a demon. He'd never been right next to one before, and his mind... hadn't even observed who this guy was. He was far too absorbed in the mess he'd pulled a stranger into, but now that he realized it... he felt his heart thud against his chest, apprehensive of their encounter.
H-he'd.... just accidentally attacked a demon by his foolish clumsiness.
Hearing the exchange and how the young man was treated in response merely for being a demon prompted Alfonse to make an abrupt decision. He was to blame for what happened, and... may have even just permanently stained his clothes. The tone of the worker's voice had also strongly ignited tension and confrontation, which Alfonse didn't want to allow happen. "I-I can pay for it..." He offered, his voice falling into its natural quiet tone before attempting to gulp down the tightness in his throat to prevent his voice from wavering. A courteous smile was sent the demon's way, although not masking his visible self-conscious embarrassment. "It's the least I can do for what happened. Anything you want, I'll compensate for," He insisted softly, his gaze wavering away from the demon and glancing at the faces of employees... whose attention all seemed to be focused on them. It made his face blush in extreme guilt, "I-I'm sorry, again, for causing such a mess...."
notes: It can be an open bathroom if you feel like Alfonse will follow him!
All three of them glanced towards the kid who had fallen and sprayed his entire beverage all over him. The sticky substance was still on his clothes and his face felt sticky. He'd have to go to the bathroom and wash up, but not before getting what he deserved. The offer didn't appease Nicolas because he didn't blame the idiot in the first place. The dirty haired blonde was thankful that at least he didn't have to deal with this guy blaming him as well. "Get him a drink too while your at it, hot chocolate, free." He snapped as he ignored what the kid was saying and jerked his gaze back to the worker. Maybe they'd be more willing if it was a damn human and demon.
"Make our drinks or I'll clean up your mess," Nicolas purposely threatened them as he tapped his finger down onto the counter and glared daggers at the worker. Black shadow currently protruded from the tips of his fingers, lurking underneath his palm like smoke...and it was clear that he wasn't screwing around.
Threats...the fear that made them hated was also their biggest benefit because the bloody workers did as they were told and made both of them a drink. Nicolas watched them like a hawk the entire time until the drinks were set before him, he grabbed his, and gave the kid his own. He offered him a somewhat smile thing. Demon's weren't all a**holes and if you stuck up for one you might even get a free drink.
Nicolas even cleaned up the water on the floor by evaporating it with fire to avoid anymore slips and show the workers too that if they didn't piss him off things would be fine. From there he began towards the men's bathroom to finally clean up.
Building off of Alfonse's initial proposal of trying to make up for what'd happened, the demon demanded thata free hot chocolate was also reimbursed.... except, the tone he used made it sound more so like a threat. A smoldering smoke swirled about the other boy's palm to further assert himself in front of the employees, catching Alfonse's eye and at once feeling his heart leap at the fear of things escalating.
He'd never be able to show his face at this cafe again if things escalated.... and being around a demon like this made him wonder if he himself were standing on thin ice. After all, he was the instigator of all of this... and from the mouths of adults he'd grown up with, he'd heard various stories and opinions regarding those from Hell-derived species.
At the same time, Alfonse had his own experiences with some of those were shunned and had a a mind of his own to determine how he felt. Winnie in particular, who proved many of those gossiping tales to be judging and untrue, shown a different light on the world... and Alfonse refused to be disrespectful to someone because of what they looked like.
A shaking, quiet breath surfaced from the teen, wanting to somehow ease the situation but feeling a bit helpless in being able to do anything else. The drinks were prepared, watching and feeling an odd unsettling aura swelling around them... putting him on edge. The atmosphere in the cafe had certainly changed since he first walked in. Drastically.
When the drinks were done, the blonde turned to face him with a smile and his drink in hand. Alfonse returned the gesture, smiling in return and gently grasping the hot chocolate... of which felt the slightest more luke-warm than before. "Thank you," He managed to say, before the demon begun in the way of the men's bathroom. Both hands anxiously wrapped around the cup... still feeling like he hadn't done enough yet. The situation hadn't... really been fixed and he wasn't certain it could be.
However, before the demon could venture too far, Alfonse went to shorten the distance by a few feet and called out, although not loudly, "Are you certain you're all right? I-I mean, your clothes.." His voice vaguely drifted off, referencing to the stained display on him. Thoughtfully, his hands lowered the hot chocolate. Should he offer him money to buy something else? W-would that be proper...? Or perhaps too overbearing? He didn't know how to offer, or suggest compensating for anything else... thus, shyly, he asked him, "Would you like me to help, o-or... pay for any damages?"
Nicolas paused when the boy behind him spoke up once more. He seemed really uncertain and awkward for what had happened...and despite everything he was still trying to buy him something. It was weird...but then if he really thought about it maybe the person was just petrified that he had offended a demon. The thought wasn't pleasing for him because he didn't take pride and joy in forcing others to do his biding... errr well... his gaze moved to the workers for a moment. He'd do it to people who deserved it.
No, he was beginning to think that until he let this kid buy him something he would be haunted by nightmares of him murdering him out of revenge. He wasn't that akari damn petty and he had half the mind to snap at this kid. But whatever. If buying him something would make him sleep better then he'd do so to get his annoying human of his back.
"Uh..." he mumbled out and paused glancing at the menu. "Buy me a big beef sub. Yeah, that should do it." He told him and gestured towards his table. "That's my seat," he continued before going to head to the bathroom to clean up. The sub was the most expensive thing on the menu, about 17 dollars or something like that. But he did it on purpose to really drive home the fact that he was letting the kid pay whatever dues he had dreamt up.
Alfonse's voice brought the other teen to a stop, proceeding to glance in the direction of the cafe's menu. It hadn't mattered what the teen ordered, Alfonse already knew that whatever it was he would be willing to pay for the young man's order as an apology for causing him trouble and also in thanks to him being understanding about his slip-up. He was still a little wary... of the observation that the demon was able to summon his abilities without difficulty. The ease he had in bringing upon dark magic into his palms, and use it as a means of intimidating the employee who'd initially refused him a drink, was enough to show that he was familiar with what he was capable of... and may have been capable of performing his abilities well.
However, the other teen's composure towards him had mellowed Alfonse's feelings from turning into fears. After a pause of glancing over the menu, the demon told him, "Buy me a big beef sub. Yeah, that should do it." With a gesture towards his booth, alerting Alfonse of where he would be sitting, he once more begun in the way of the restroom he'd originally been heading in the direction. With a slight nod of his head to acknowledge his order, Alfonse's smile had sustained in his expression, but it'd lessened as the boy walked off and he was once more introduced into a situation of having to order from the same exact employee that'd been involved in their incident.
For a first time being in this cafe.... he'd already caused a lot of commotion and felt like he was making a bad impression. He hoped it wouldn't always be the same employees working here... or else visiting again would be extremely uncomfortable for him. The employee at the counter, the same exact woman before, had already heard the whole short conversation with the two teens and as Alfonse shyly stepped up to the counter for another time, her face didn't quite show the same hospitality as before. "H-hello again," He greeted, sheepishly smiling to the woman who reciprocated a more so forced and tight smile of her own, "Ah... u-um, one big beef sub, please,"
"That'll be seventeen dollars," The amount surprised Alfonse, his eyes rising above her head to take his own quick peek at the menu to see if the price were enlisted next to the name. She was right... seventeen dollars. B-but... why was it so much...? "Priciest item on the menu. Awfully generous of you," She went on, her voice bordering smugness as an indirect hint at Alfonse being too accommodating.
He was made uncomfortable by her judging gaze, although the woman did try to keep professional as she awaited for either the payment or for him to change his mind on giving the demon a free lunch. The guy wasn't anywhere in sight and now would have been an easy time for Alfonse to take his leave instead. Alfonse didn't consider leaving, however, nor did he make a complaint as he instead fished for his wallet from his puffy coat jacket and took out a twenty. The employee was disappointed that a demon had gotten their way, but said nothing of it as she snatched the payment from Alfonse's extended hand while the other held onto his hot chocolate. "Will that be all?"
Alfonse nodded in a wordless response and he was given a plastic number card to sit at the edge of the table for the food to be delivered. "It'll be right up," She dismissed with a quick turn with her back now facing him, and ignored his "Thank you,". His smile completely faltered, sensing a shift in mood in the staff, but he just... wanted to move on and get back somewhere more private. This had turned out to be a big disaster and he hoped that nothing else bad would come out of this.
He was cautious in where he walked as he went over to the other boy's designated booth. Whilst walking, however, he noticed that the traces of snow had disappeared entirely and the floor was dry. The splash of leftover hot chocolate on the ground had also seemed to have disintegrated... as though none of it had happened to begin with. Alfonse assumed the staff had cleaned it up, although it was odd to see just how clean it now looked.
Setting the card on the edge of the table, Alfonse looked off towards the restrooms and about the room from where he stood to see if the demon were anywhere in sight. He didn't know if he should wait.... o-or if he was being too attentive by waiting around. With his mother still having yet to show up, Alfonse was stuck here all the same... and he was still ambivalent on the atmosphere surrounding the staff and the meal he promised the demon. Anxiously, he bit on his lower lip, and hesitated before slowly sitting on the very edge of one booth seat. Waiting until he got back hopefully wouldn't hurt anything...
The bathroom was medium sized, two sinks, and three stalls one being a disability accessible one. He stayed out in the main area and began cleaning off his face and any other sticky part. His jacket which had thankfully not been soaked, rested on the counter. What a day, but hey, he got a free drink and meal out of everything. He'd certainly be returning there sometime soon...maybe he'd even bring his whole demon family to be served here.
"Should have made sure they didn't spit in my sandwich," he muttered out as he pulled out of his shirt and began rinsing it off, squeezing it out and air drying it underneath the hand dryer. It took him about, seven-ish minutes to be done before he stepped out of the bathroom and back into the world of the specist humans. He flashed the workers a cocky smile before moving to his table.
It was then that he noticed the redhead was sitting at his table...with a raised eyebrow...he threw his jacket into the corner and plopped down on the seat across from him. What...was he doing?
"What? Did you want to buy me more things?" he asked with an intensity to him, but he was being harmless...he was teasing the kid because he was seriously just sitting in his booth and waiting for him. He did tell him 'my seats here' maybe he actually thought that was an invitation or a demand? "Look I don't know what fairytales your mother told you, but I'm not going to eat you or hunt you down or anything else you've dreamt up. I'm just a guy who wanted to get a coffee. At a Café."
Folding his hand around the hot chocolate he'd set upon the table, Alfonse awaited for either the order to arrive at the table or for the demon to make his way out of the cafe restroom. Whichever came first... and it happened to be the demon himself, whom caught Alfonse's attention right after he'd strolled through the middle of the room and threw his jacket to the empty corner of the booth across from him.
His gaze uplifted arose from beneath the few locks of wispy auburn hair, meeting with the demon's as he sat down across from him. He was about to greet him, but the other teen spoke up before he could with an upfront and confident question oh his own, "What? Did you want to buy me more things?"
Being face-to-face sitting across from each other gave Alfonse the clearest view of the young man's demeanor without any other distractions to side-tract him. Black curved horns peered, sturdy and strong through his medium-length head of dark blonde hair strewn in darker shades. They were so apparent, hardly easy to miss... yet it hadn't been the first quality of which stood out to him in his floundering from falling to the floor.
"Look I don't know what fairytales your mother told you, but I'm not going to eat you or hunt you down or anything else you've dreamt up. I'm just a guy who wanted to get a coffee. At a Café."
It were as though he'd read his mind, or more so, knew his cautiousness and... even curiosity dwelling within his thoughts. Alfonse sheepishly blushed from such direct, upfront words and for a second, he'd wondered if this guy could see right through him... if he could sense the disguise his charm had activated to hide away his wings. That fear was dulled within a second when realizing how unlikely it was, but still... w-was he obviously acting terrified around him or was it just something he'd assumed from past experiences?
Thoughtfully, Alfonse's smiled grew meeker. Maybe he was imposing too much and... worrying too much about the incident between the employees. In Chastain and Ruen, demons were scarce but were looked down upon. Based on what happened in Lorsette's cafe, that reality didn't seem too different here. "A-ah, right...! I know... I'm sorry, I--" Unable to keep his gaze on the boy much longer, he looked down at the cup of hot chocolate. His lean fingers idly roamed over the styrofoam, the warm texture of the cup gliding under his fingertips, "This is my first time... meeting a demon..."
With a mild bite down on his lower lip, he gave himself a scolding shake of his head. "But that doesn't excuse anything. I just.... felt responsible, for what happened..." For causing a scene and igniting the flames between those employed at the shop.
Surprisingly his antics didn't frighten the kid or make him so pale he'd look like a ghost. But instead he found it in himself to blush and that oddity caused him to quirk a brow. Why was he getting shy around him? Apparently, his returning expression caused the kid to question himself and his smile grew nervous once more. A few other customers entered the store and his brown eyes lifted briefly to them before he reached down to gather his own drink and take a sip.
He was shocked when he was actually told that the guy before him had never met a demon. He placed his cup down and looked confused. Demons were everywhere...how had he not met one before...that suspicion grew...until he was slowly looking him over.
Human or heavenly? Ugh, why did he always have to ask this kind of question. But it wasn't normal to meet someone who had never interacted with a demon before. "Like personally or...?" Nicolas ended up asking and seemed snagged on the fact that he had never met one of his kind before. "Like have you seen them walking around but never got a chance to talk to one?"
My skin has turned to porcelain, to ivory, to steel.
Alfonse felt the other boy scanning him over, re-igniting a worry of him sensing something or anything "off" about him. It wasn't that he doubted the strength of his pendant with its current re-enchantment before having left Ruen to embark on a new life in Lorsette, but he still worried about what a demon would think of being around someone like him and if he had some hidden power that could unravel the magic idly swirling in the sphere-like pendant hidden beneath his layers of clothing.
That worry in its own was also strange and unfamiliar, treading on unknown territory, and Alfonse was beginning to feel dishonest with himself. The young man sported his own inherited species attributes fearlessly while he hid behind a charm.... h-he probably shouldn't even be sitting here...
The blonde showed interest in what Alfonse had meant about having not encountered any other demon, asking him if he'd ever seen them in person and just hadn't gotten to directly speak with one. Chastain and Ruen weren't welcoming cities to Demons and most other Hell species. They were sanctuary cities, although Chastain was slightly more forgiving to Vampires and Fallen Angels whom still made up a lesser population due to the economy and demand for entering through the barriers.
Alfonse lifted his hot chocolate off the table, simply keeping it in hand as the boy's lips formed an uncertain slight upturn of a hinted smile. "No, I've read about them in books, but...that's all..." The stranger in front of him admitted after nodding his head and giving him an uncertain smile. The kid seemed to be telling the truth from how humble he was acting. But it was too hard for him to believe...there had to be a catch...a lie somewhere in his words. There was no way someone who had been 'untainted' by his kind would just be casually waltzing around. Especially in a place like Lorsette, the place was famously known for peacefully housing all species. Peacefully, pfft, what a joke that was. The thought caused him to glare at the workers again who were taking a long ass time finishing his sub.
"Never heard that before," he told him as he took another sip of his drink and glanced out the window, but his gaze was pinpointing on the auburn haired stranger. There was no reason for him to get confrontational with him because he wasn't stupid. There was no way he'd get a straight answer if he just asked the kid.
