Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

My skin has turned to porcelain, to ivory, to steel.
With another sip of his hot beverage, the blonde responded, "Never heard that before," He hadn't been in Lorsette for even a couple days, but... Alfonse had a bit of an after-thought of how different it already felt to him compared to his other hometowns. Demons would never be spotted within the city territory, yet Lorsette was quite visibly not the same.
He was still a little stunned that by chance, he happened to encounter one. A-although, Alfonse felt very lucky that the demon he crossed paths with wasn't more infuriated with his clumsy display. H-he didn't think his mother... would have told him to meet her here if she thought he'd wind up sitting at a booth with him.
Then again... wasn't she raised here? Wouldn't she know this was a possibility?
With a softening smile in response, Alfonse's light gaze fell on the other teen's face once more, his shoulders gently leaning inwards from the cooling breath of air surrounding the window beside him. Curious thoughts came to mind regarding the city and the young man himself but he was respectful and also generally quiet in nature, keeping to himself and not wanting to bother the other young man.
Barely any pause was left between them regardless for from the corner of his eye, Alfonse saw an employee strolling over with a black tray of which had a white plate atop it. The beef sub was in clear view as the male worker approached, seemingly avoiding looking directly at the blonde as he got up to the booth and instead placed the plate in front of Alfonse. He wanted to give the guy the benefit of the doubt that it was a mistake, but there was a lingering unease in the air...
Immediately the worker turned around and hastily walked off, looking as though he couldn't get away and faster, and Alfonse set his hot chocolate down to carefully push the other boy's plate to his side of the table. He glimpsed up at him, sheepishly with yet another small hint of a smile upon his lips, "Here... have you eaten this before?"
It was also his indirect way of asking if he'd come here before, since he was uncertain after how everyone reacted towards him.
The silence grew between them, but the dirty blonde actually didn't mind it. The only experience he had with people interacting with him was a never-ending one-sided conversation. In fact the one to interrupt them was one of the workers. Nicolas drew his brown eyes to the dude as he purposely set the meal down before the kid in front of him despite knowing exactly who the free sub belonged to. It caused him to scoff lightly, but he took no real offence. He'd get them back...when be brought his two fathers there. It made him smirk coyly as he briefly glanced to the window.
But only for a moment because the kid in front of him was finally speaking up as he pushed his meal towards him. "Nope," he returned with little hesitation and actually checked his sub to make sure they hadn't spit in it. Once he was finished he immediately took a big bite of his sub as he glanced back towards the two jerks working behind the counter.
"What about you? How long have you been in Lorsette?" The dirty blonde spoke up as he peered back towards him and obviously knew what the kid was really asking. "And why Lorsette," he added because he knew the answer to his first question...or rather the potential lie the kid would give him...
It'd only make sense to say he 'just' moved there...especially since he admitted this was his first time meeting a demon.
My skin has turned to porcelain, to ivory, to steel.
The other boy responded with a simple "nope", not divulging in much more as he went ahead to check the contents of the pub. Alfonse hadn't ordered any food for himself nor did he feel craving for any... he was fine with just the hot chocolate that barely warmed his palms, taking an idle and short sip from it.
After the other boy had taken his first bite from his meal, glancing off towards those working behind the counter, Alfonse had unintentionally done the same. His eyes followed in the same direction, keeping his cup near his lips... and feeling uncomfortable when seeing that they'd received a sneaky glance in return, though one of the workers tried to seem preoccupied with mopping the counter off with a towel.
"What about you? How long have you been in Lorsette?"
Alfonse's gaze shifted back over to him, promptly in time for the demon's addition of words. "And why Lorsette,"
Having the conversation begin to direct towards focusing on his own personal life stirred a brief nervous swelling within his stomach. Being more of a 'nomad' here, just another face... was a security in its own, and Alfonse wasn't too open with sharing more... but he also didn't want to be rude or suspiciously secretive when he'd chosen to sit by this guy and order him a meal.
"O-oh, just.... for a few days now," He told him, meekly smiling and lowering his cup from his mouth, "My grandparents live here. I'm visiting, for awhile,"

Nicolas was making it known by directing the question back at him without any 'fluff' that he wasn't someone to mess with. It was unconscious and part of his personality to be passive aggressive like that and part of that reason was because he didn't trust this kid. His brown eyes remained on him as he answered and the dirty blonde took another big bite of his meal nearly finishing half the sub already. It was a good sub and it made him happy to have a full belly.
"Hm," he returned to him when the kid told him how he'd been there for a few days and was visiting his grandparents. "They teach you these kind of manners back where you come from?" Nicolas asked and was purposely on his own side fishing for more information. "To give strangers free things?" He clarified.
He was a hypocrite for not being direct on his own side, but that was just the way he was. The kid made him curious, he did buy him a free meal after all and so Nicolas was willing to entertain him for a bit.
My skin has turned to porcelain, to ivory, to steel.
"Hm," answered the demon, currently enjoying himself the cafe's sub quite.... quickly. Alfonse had barely glanced down at the plate before taking a double-take, looking again and seeing that the first half was already gone. Licked clean off the plate. How did he do that!? He couldn't help but to be momentarily distracted by it and how fast this guy ate, his eyes mildly widening in surprise before the boy went on to ask him more questions.
"They teach you these kind of manners back where you come from?"
Alfonse reminded himself to be polite and not rudely stare at the guy's meal... even though it still was perplexing to him that someone could eat that fast... did demons have hearty appetites? His mother complained about how he didn't eat much, not always finishing his meals, and compared to the blonde sitting in front of him.... Alfonse definitely felt the differences between them regarding that.
The other teen clarified after Alfonse hadn't replied to him, asking if he did this for strangers often as a result of how he was raised to treat others. He could feel the growing apprehensiveness of sharing the intimate details of his life... and Alfonse hesitated.
"Um..." He softly murmured, not seeming to be able to keep a steady gaze whatsoever his way, although this was much for the reasoning behind his own reserved shyness. His cup had lowered closer to the table, the shyness of a smile not leaving his features before managing to once more look up at the curious stranger before him, "W-well, no-- I mean, yes... i-in way, but--!"
The light tap of the styrofoam sounded from him setting it down. His face warmed, feeling put on spot as he sheepishly went on, "Wh-what happened was my fault, and after getting it all over the place-- and all on you, this was something I wanted to do as an apology,"
notes: Alfonse's thoughts on how Nicolas eats was hilarious.
Nicolas cocked an eyebrow when the kid in front of him clearly hesitated. He watched him for another brief moment before reaching for his glass. He expected 'um' to be the only thing he told him, but after a minute the stranger began awkwardly stumbling all over himself. Nicolas scoffed out in amusement to the fact that his question had made him so flabbergasted that he couldn't speak for a moment. The red head was around his age, but he had an air about him that made Nicolas refer to him unconsciously as a 'kid'.
But what he said next caused him to frown. "...Okay tell me this. I walk into..." he paused and suddenly smirked a bit cockily. "...a church and let's say it's been snowing...so inside there's a stretch of water...and snow, mud, you get the picture," he continued and became a bit animated when he set his sub down and began gesturing somewhat with his hands. "Boom, I slip and knock over bunch of poor choir girls. Tell me who's at fault? Me, the choir girls or the damn janitor for not mopping up the sludge?"
My skin has turned to porcelain, to ivory, to steel.
Alfonse saw a frown momentarily cross the other's face, causing his own shy smile to begin fading upon seeing his reaction, but right after the demon's frown was replaced by a smirk... one that almost seemed to challenge him as he offered his own words.
"...Okay tell me this. I walk into..."
With a pause, Alfonse's face turned more attentive to him as he heeded the beginnings of a scenario that the demon created of his own... to relate what'd happened between them minutes ago to a different setting. He described a church with snow tredged inside much like the snow that'd been left to melt in Lorsette's Cafe.... and Alfonse begun feeling a certain looming cautiousness for his binding tale.
He tried not to show it as he listened quietly, his eyebrows gently lowering in a muted serious yet curious gaze, but his wariness of not sharing too much... and of wondering if the young man may have been probing him for something more, prevented Alfonse from relaxing.
"Boom, I slip and knock over bunch of poor choir girls. Tell me who's at fault? Me, the choir girls or the damn janitor for not mopping up the sludge?"
The story reached an upfront end, mirroring back at him similarities that Alfonse caught on to without struggle... as did his taking notice of how he'd used a church as the back-drop. He didn't want to fall into a trap with how he answered but he could already sense pitfalls looming before him. A pause arose as Alfonse allowed the blonde's words to sink in, processing them and letting them roll through his thoughts.
Just as before, the boy appeared to be carefully thinking of a response before vocalizing anything. Thoughtfully, Alfonse let his shoulders slightly fall back into the seat of the booth behind him before answering softly, "The weather would be responsible for the conditions.... and causing the accident. It could have been prevented, if the janitor saw the melting snow first.... and had the other person watched their feet...."
His face heated, pressured and mulling over how there were various factors playing into the roles of those involved. "I-It's part of a domino effect, though.... almost anyone could take liability for it,"

Nicolas watched as the kid took in his worlds real carefully. It was interesting to say the least...how he could act like a child fumbling over his words, but he had some intelligence to him as he mulled over his scenario. The dirty blonde waited and decided to take another sip of his drink and another big bite leaving maybe...one to two more bites before his meal was completely demolished. He was a fast eater... There had been a time when he was younger when he didn't eat so insanely fast, but his 'influence' to that passed and so he just returned to what was more natural to him; scarfing down his meal.
When the kid answered him...Nicolas let a long pause filter between the two before he scoffed out a laugh. Wow, he didn't expect that answer, but he liked it and was impressed.
"You're right, kiddo, so next time don't just blame only yourself. Since as you mentioned anyone really could take the blame," he told him with a smirk. He was acting clever...like he had this whole thing in his mind, but he really didn't. He actually was just annoyed that the kid found the need to blame himself when clearly it was the 'janitor's' fault. It was the stranger who offered up a new perspective and the teen just jumped on it like he had always owned it in the first place. Some would say it was conniving, but he had good intentions towards the end of it so who cared.
My skin has turned to porcelain, to ivory, to steel.
Another pause arose at the cafe's booth but this time, it was long and uninterrupted.... stirring the utmost discomfort Alfonse already self-consciously was feeling prior. The meal set before his new demon companion noticeably deteriorated, having rapidly been eaten since... h-how long had they been sitting together?
Alfonse's serious face lightened into astonishment once more at the feat of how fast this guy could eat a meal. They were just talking, he'd been providing him a riddle of a sort to answer... a-and somehow his meal shrunk even more so than before. While he, himself, barely was mid-way finished with his hot chocolate.
He was on edge, teetering on the edge of feeling awkward about how he answered him since the other young man had fallen so quiet, but finally, the blonde spoke up after a scoffed laugh.
"You're right, kiddo, so next time don't just blame only yourself. Since as you mentioned anyone really could take the blame,"
Alfonse was met with a smirk of which ignited a shy warmth in his face and caused a bashful smile to touch his features. He responded silently by giving only a small nod in acknowledgement of what he said. Something about this guy.... had a strong presence about him. It may have only been because of how desolate the cafe was, or Alfonse being very aware of how he was a demon. The first he'd met in person. All the same, however, he felt like he were being kept on his toes... perhaps it was the demon's intent to do so.
The bashfulness in his face sustained, making him impossibly more self-conscious over himself as he tried to occupy his hands by taking his hot chocolate into them once more. "H-how was your meal?" He asked, a change of topic but a sincere one as he wondered if this guy ate all his meals so heartily.
Flattery seemed to be the kid's response to his statement, and he soon asked him how his meal was. He was quiet and he liked that...if one was going to be noisy then they had to be the right kind of noisy which was never the case, but quiet one couldn't go wrong with that...although it was equally as hard to come by.
"Good, thanks again," he told him, as he gestured with the remaining piece of his sub before finishing it completely. He then took a sip of his drink before reaching for a napkin to wipe off his face. "You want one?" Nicolas ended up inquiring with a cocked eyebrow.
It seemed like he was teasing, but one couldn't be sure just where his thoughts were. In reality, Nicolas was just offering for fun, but if the kid in front of him asked for one which he doubted he would, he'd buy him one, why not. Wasn't that why he was asking in the first place?
The thought of their conversation, of their meeting, it was a weird one...a weird beginning. But despite them conversing Nicolas didn't expect it to go anywhere or really anything of it. He'd talked to people he didn't know before and had never seen them again...which would no doubt be the case with 'visiting' boy in front of him. That's why he didn't offer his name or continue pestering him with anymore personal questions.
In a matter of seconds, the rest of the pub was gone in its entirety with nothing left of its remains. With a satisfactory sip of his beverage, the young man looked content with his now completed meal."Good, thanks again," He responded, further confirming that despite the rocky start to their encounter, everything that reached a smooth ending at the booth.
No more clumsy mistakes on Alfonse's behalf, and the staff had thankfully resumed their own business while doing whatever matters they were paid to do at the shop. It was enough to bring a little more ease to Alfonse, who watched as he went to wipe his face while offering something in return to him. "You want one?"
With a raise of a brow, the demon appeared to almost be teasing him with the question. He didn't know him well enough to know for certain and tried not to make assumptions as he, with a vague surprise in his expression, uplifted his smile as he rose a palm. "Oh, no thank you! That's kind of you, but I'm not very hungry," He politely declined, his risen palm taking his beverage into its grasp as he went on to claim, "I still have a lot of this left," As though following alongside his comment and polite refusal, he lifted it up to take a sip.
Today, this was his treat for the other boy and he didn't want him to feel obligated in doing the same for him.

A soft ding of his phone caught his attention and Nicolas' lowered his gaze to the side of his booth seat to see...his father b***hing at him. The sight caused him to cringe somewhat...because he had lost track of time a little and was running more then late now. But it wasn't so bad...hopefully. Nicolas held back a sigh as he brought his brown eyes back to the kid before him as he raised his palm and politely began declining his offer.
Nicolas silenced him with a raised finger and did what he seemed to do best, ignored him midway through his talking to actually go over to the counter and order him a sub. "To go," he told the worker and waited for them to pack up his meal. He watched them briefly before being given the plastic covered sub. They weren't friendly or talkative at all with him, but he didn't care and soon was back at the strangers side to set down his purchase.
"Consider it my treat," he told the boy as he moved to grab his things. "I'll see you later," he told him with a cocky grin before moving to brace the cold once more. A final wave came from him as he passed the window and completely vanished into the street. He was in a good mood, a full belly and pleasant conversation could do that for him.
Alfonse, mid-way through his attempts of declining the blonde's offer and not troubling him, was interrupted by a raised finger. His eyes lowered, nearly crossing to look at the finger that had successfully brought him to silence, and without a word his companion arose from the booth.... heading right in the direction of the ordering counter.
He was able to connect the dots right away. His eyes grew large as they followed where he went and he stood from his seat. Before he could join him,Alfonse already heard him vocalizing the same order to go.... and surprise solidified in his expression. The other boy still wished to reciprocate the gesture, and... he was worried he really may have felt an obligation to do it for the reason of him having stuck around.
Th-that wasn't what he was trying to do... he wasn't expecting anything from him in return. Before he could so much as stop him or insist he pay even just half of the meal, the decision was made for him in what felt like a flash. He almost reached the counter, though the meal was already in the works of being prepared, and upon him almost reaching his side their eyes locked upon the demon already turning to grab his items off from the booth they'd just been sitting at.
"Consider it my treat," He told him without argument. Alfonse opened his mouth to speak but before he could, a familiar grin crossed the blonde's face that held a similar effect over him. His face hinted with a blushing warmth as he was bid an, "I'll see you later" and just as fast as he'd devoured his sub.... just as fast as he'd stood up and ordered for him, the boy was already off on his way.
Alfonse quickly turned around to face him after he'd passed by, the expression of shock among other feelings swelling inside his chest nearly tongue-tying him from this stranger's... adamant yet kind deed... and the cool smirks that'd been sent his way. "A-ah, um, th-thank you!" He practically blurted, his mind racing to catch up as he returned a small wave his direction. In his flustered moment, Alfonse had forgotten to smile... and all too late, he brought one upon his heated face that was accompanied by an inkling flush of red in his cheeks.
Beyond the exterior of his demon attributes, this guy was a lot different than those present in his life. What he exerted was.... h-he wasn't certain of how to take it all in, but.... without awareness of it, Alfonse's smile warmed as his gaze lingered at the doorway he'd just exited through. There was something.... exciting about what'd just happened. N-Not the free sandwich, but in meeting... him.
The worker called out to him, having placed the bagged sandwich on the take-out section of the counter for him to take. Alfonse's attention was snapped over and he offered her a thanking for her services. The woman, the same who'd warned him of being careful with his 'piping hot cocoa', didn't give him anything in response as she simply found something else for her to do behind the counter. Loneliness surrounded him as Alfonse's gaze mellowed into somberness and he wandered away from the counter, being set back into a state of waiting... for a mother who wouldn't be showing up.
M-maybe at this point, that was a good thing...
The time went by fast since his surprise encounter and Alfonse knew he'd be waiting only a little longer before either his mother's vehicle or transportation from his grandparents would arrive to pick him up. He wanted to save the gifted meal for later, when he could eat in privacy. Until then, Alfonse decided to take a seat near the doorway, and watch for a familiar face.
