Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Pride found himself wandering Lorsette as usual, he placed himself outside. In his husky form he trotted alongside buildings. He was covered in filth, and scratches, even a few bite marks, as he continued to travel out in the public. People began to eye him because of his lack of a collar, and lack of an owner. He continued to trot making his way to an open field. He laid down in the field trying to get some sleep. As he tried to sleep his body reverted back into his human form, twisting it's shape into the long and buff man that was Pride. He awoke after the transformation without any clue where he was, not remembering his times as the animal form. "Where am I?" Pride was wearing a beat up leather jacket, a white ripped under shirt, and a pair of nice jeans. He rubbed his hands through his greasy hair. "I'm filthy," He said in almost disgust.
His stomach began to growl, and he groaned similar to that of a dog. It was much harder to survive as a human in this city, people often gave out scraps to dogs, but people, that was less so, unless the person was kind. Pride didn't really like living on an empty stomach all the time, but it was really the only life he'd known so far. Having amnesia meant he often was misplacing his location, he got lost from his family, and he couldn't even remember their names. The only thing he could be certain of was his own name, and a few contacts he remembers meeting for a time. However his condition was debilitating for him.
Pride made his way down the street walking into the first store he could find to get away from the heat. He was a bit smelly, and a was easily seen with dirty clothes, with rips in them as well. A few gashes in his body visible, he was either someone who just got out of a scrape, or homeless. Making his way into this cafe he made his way to a booth. Still quite exhausted from lack of food he wasn't thinking straight as he made his way into one of the cool booths. He almost stuck his tongue out enjoying the air so much. He needn't do that in this form though. He couldn't help but put a smile on his face as he enjoyed the cool air, liking the small things in life very much.
He sat there for a few minutes before someone came up to him. Probably one of the cafe's owners. He looked at her curiously, the server glaring at him with angry eyes. "If you don't order something I'm going to have to ask you to leave sir," Pride smiled her way scratching the back of his head. "Okay! Can I get something to drink, like a water, and maybe something to eat as well." She looked a little fed up with him already, almost like he had done this before. Pride was pretty happy with himself, she didn't say he needed to pay, he felt like he was quite clever. "How much money do you have on you?" Pride looked a little surprised. "Money?" Pride checked his pockets briefly before replying. "None actually," She grumbled. "I'm going to have to ask you to leave then." Pride's happy face soon turned into a frown.
The sun is shining, the birds are singing. Dogs barking cheerfully. Today couldn’t have been a better day even if she tried.
Amari floated down the street with a goofy grin on her face, a skip in her step as her hand clutched at an envelope carefully with her dainty fingers. The only words going through her mind was “first paycheck” on repeat, after a challenging month of working part-time at the hospital and learning the ins and outs of her chosen craft in a professional environment. This was a big achievement from her after arriving in Lorsette after three years- no more relying on family to help with finance! At least, it seemed like that would be the case soon.
Her head bobbed from one side to the other as if she were listening to a favourite song, but the fact of the matter was that she was simply on a natural high. As she wandered down the street, her mind naturally progressed from one thing to another. It would not be a true celebration of receiving your first paycheck without getting a treat for yourself, after all. She couldn’t help but remember the time her sister had come home with her first paycheck too, and they shared their time together at their favourite fast food chain. It was such a small thing, looking back on it, but Amari’s grin softened as she giddily remembered those moments fondly. Well, this time around she would be spending it by herself since it was already late, but that didn’t bother her much. Amari had a vanilla latte on her mind, which more than made up for it.
The time passed quickly and Amari finally arrived at her favourite place in Northern Lorsette; a beautiful street surrounded by a relaxing aura and a distinct scent of bakeries and cafes. One of these cafes in particular was on her agenda- a place she had never entered before, yet always drew her eye. Despite not disliking the hot weather, the air-conditioned building was a refreshing and welcomed change. Perhaps it would make her coffee taste even better, she thought.
Her smile shifted slightly as she took a few more steps in. Some sort of commotion perhaps?
Perhaps because of her good mood, but her curiosity got the better of her. She peeked her head around the corner of the seating arrangements to see a waitress in a bad mood with one of the customers. Amari thought about moving along to the other side of the room, but the expression she could see in the tall male’s battle-worn eyes as he was asked to leave told a story that she had trouble ignoring.
“Umm…” she began, speaking quietly to the waitress while walking up to the booth. The server’s eyes almost glared daggers for a moment, but quickly bounced back to a friendly look as she remembered other (paying) customers existed. To be honest, the sudden change was surprising, but Amari had already planned her phrasing in advance so it didn’t throw her off too much. The dark haired sphinx girl took a deep breath and continued.
“Um.. Two vanilla lattes for us” she would say with a hint of forced confidence, before looking over to the man at the booth. “And… A savoury croissant too”.
The expression of the waitress was nothing short of utter disbelief, but if someone is paying, then there’s no reason to decline them. You could practically feel the sigh under her breath as she nodded in regretful acceptance.
Pride found himself utterly surprised as someone intervened in the situation between him and the server. He looked at the woman curiously, she looked very gentle of a thing. When she ordered two vanilla lattes Pride's interest was peaked. She was kind, and confident, or at least seemed to be very confident. If Pride had his tail, it would be wagging. He smiled towards the woman, looking at her with a curious eye. "Come! Sit down!" Pride gestured to the empty booth seat across from the table. He seemed overly excited but perhaps that was just his way of being grateful.
The woman who was so adamant on kicking Pride out soon left to get what the woman had ordered. It wouldn't take long, they were simple orders at least. Pride waited for her to seat, if she even felt comfortable enough to sit around him. "My name's Pride! What's yours?" He was so happy with the situation you could practically feel his excitement oozing out from his eye sockets. He smiled, his fangs showing in the process.
"It has been sometime since someone has been kind enough to let me stay inside." Not that Pride would remember most situations, but it felt like the best thing to say at this time. He still felt that the woman was just being kind, not actually wanting to share her items, because why would she? Not that he would complain but he felt a bit greedy taking advantage of her kindness. Still he would more than willingly take the drink, but he was more interested than the croissant if he was honest.
A mere minutes later and the woman brought out the drinks, and croissant. "That'll be 5 bucks," She responded with still a bit of amazement at the girl's kind nature. "That's a lot of money," Pride barked out without thinking. "I mean, it's not a whole lot, but you know to me it is more than I regularly see. Can you really afford it?" Pride would be a little surprised if she could, he was sure most people could, but to get 2 drinks, did she really order a drink for him, or did she order 2 for herself? She was letting him stay, so whatever. He was mainly trying to see if she really wanted to offer the second drink to him, he would love to take it, but it sounded like things were too good to be true.
Amari was almost taken aback as she was offered to take a seat opposite the man. She had made it this far but had in no way shape or form planned for the interaction that would follow it. Amari fiddles with her fingers as she sits opposite him, looking out the window to try and avoid the eye contact she would most likely have to make soon. Pride… His name is something people often told her about herself. She didn’t know if that made her feel any better or worse, but the question that came after it certainly calmed her down a touch.
“I’m Amari” She would say gently, finally giving Pride a warm smile that was more befitting of her demeanour. His wide smile in return was even more brilliant than hers- incredibly genuine and excited, and 100% not the look of someone who was trying to simply get a free meal. He kind of reminded her of an excitable dog, but then again… Those ears probably mean he has a certain part of that going for him already. “This is the first time I have been here, but I wasn’t expecting the waitress to look so upset over something like that.” Amari begins, looking at the table as she thinks about her words. “But I think cafes should be the kind of place where everyone should be able to enjoy themselves… Maybe…”
Amari folds the envelope containing the confirmation of her first paycheck and puts it neatly into her pocket as the woman from before returns with the drinks and croissant. “F- five?” Amari exclaims at hearing the price, before covering her mouth with a sleeve. She couldn’t tell if the white haired man misunderstood her as he mentions how much money it is. In reality, Amari thought it was very cheap… Actually, that figure was small enough that it almost made her want to come back here as a regular… “Ah, ah, of course. She says, fumbling to take her phone out of her pocket. I’ll pay with contactless if that’s okay…” She could practically feel the look of Pride from the other side of the table as she held her smartphone to the little receipt machine. “Thank you” Amari says to the staff member as she watches her back slowly make its way back to the main counter.
“I guess I’m in a bit of a good mood today” Amari begins, turning to speak to Pride as she slides over the croissant and one of the drinks past the center of the table. “I’ve been working in the hospital for over a month now and it feels like everything is finally paying off”. She doesn’t really know if Pride cares or not, but she didn’t want it to feel too awkward between them. She guessed any awkwardness was all in her mind, but she still couldn’t shrug off that feeling.
“And I guess I’m kind of glad I can spend the day with someone.” she mentions that last line slowly beneath her breath as she takes a sip from her coffee. It was a hot day, but nothing beats a vanilla latte, that’s for sure. Her relaxation meter visibly increased as she pulled the cup away from her mouth and sank a bit further into her seat.
Amari looks up from her drink and gets a better look at the man, finally beginning to get more comfortable. Now that she thinks about it a bit clearer, he seems much closer to her (real) age than she originally assumed. It was probably just the height difference and worn expression he had that made him look older at a glance, but his natural friendliness and warm smile definitely balanced it out a bit. She almost began to stare, fixated on some of the scars on parts of the body that she could see. Scars generally weren’t something that were avoidable even with magic, but she couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to them.
"I'm Amari" She seemed to smile kindly. Pride smiled in response, he was happy to hear the name of someone who seemed to be so kind. She wasn't one of those people that used the kindness as leverage to get someone to do stuff they didn't want to do was she? He simply pushed that thought aside as he tried to focus his attention on her. He had a great sense of smell and was smelling the different types of coffees that were being brought to the table, and the smell of the croissant as it made it's way here. "Your first time here? Well you'll be glad you spent it with someone like me!" He responded with a cheerful attitude. He was much happier to have her presence here than not, which definitely pushed his mood up their.
"I think the waitress is just doing her job, I'd probably kick myself out to be honest." Pride yawned, he knew he had a life before being on the streets. He couldn't remember any of it, but he dreamed that perhaps it was a life much cleaner than the one he was currently living. "People like me aren't good for business usually.." He attempted to look into her eyes but she appeared to be avoiding eye contact. He wondered if that was because of the way he looked. He groaned under his breath, kind of wanting more of her attention, like that of a dog not being able to withstand being without some attention.
When Amari paid for the drinks and croissant with contactless payment Pride was a little bit surprised. He leaned over the table ever so slightly to get a better look at the payment system. He didn't have cards, it was pretty neat how people paid with things with something so small and simple. What if he had a card like that, he wondered to himself. He could afford food and drinks for the woman near him then right? Repay the kindness.
"I'm glad to hear your in a good mood! I am now too!" He sat back in his seat, putting his hands in his pockets. "Working in the hospital?!" Pride sounded very surprised. "What's it like to work there? Is it hard stuff?" Pride had seen the hospital before, big building. Looked very confusing to him. "I'm glad to hear it's working out for you though!"
Pride looked at her, trying to get eye contact again. "Well you'll be glad you spent some of it with me! I'm a good listener!" Pride complimented himself happily. He was a very good boy right? He grabbed the croissant, which appeared to be slid towards him, without thinking he began eating the thing, almost devouring it. He then took a sip of the coffee afterwards. Wait was that croissant for him? It was yeah it was. She slid it over to him right. He wasn't really paying complete attention, it was as if his attention was split on multiple things, but he was for the most part able to carry on with the conversation at least. "This place smells really nice," Yes Pride's attention was definitely on the scents.
