Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

a small yawn escaped his lips as he flipped the pages of the book he was absentmindedly looking through. why were they here again? oh yes, it was part of an assignment. they were supposed to find a book to read and then the book report would follow after. surely this couldn’t of been done at a later time, but they had a substitute teacher that day. they were probably just trying to pass the time like the rest of them. well, they managed to get out of the classroom, which he was still trying to figure out if that had been a good thing?
all he knew was that if he didn’t get up he would fall asleep. well, perhaps that wasn’t such a bad idea. though it wasn’t likely that he would just take a nap at the table and be caught. where was the fun in that. no, he would get up and go looking for a nice place to catch some z’s. hopefully after his nap he would be ready to look for a book or something. he pushed his chair back as he got up, grabbing the book he had been trying to read.
it clearly hadn’t caught his interest and was going to throw it in the box return cart. he knew librarians were not fond of them putting them back. hell, he couldn’t even remember where he got it from. the less attention he drew the better. he picked a random aisle and started to browse, just something that made him look like he was actually trying to do the assignment. he randomly grabbed a book and headed towards the back corner of the library. he managed to make himself comfortable on the floor. knees drawn towards his chest, elbows resting on his thighs as he opened the book. not that he read much, before closing his eyes and drifting off. [break]
Cold outside weather kept Liam inside whenever possible; he even scurried quickly into the school upon his arrival. He wished to avoid the shivers of a chilly winter’s day. Classes passed in a blur, the young, grey-haired teen going about his work to assure homework would not exist. The sounds of his pencil etching into paper alongside the quiet chatter of his fellow classmates filled the cherubim's ears. Fixation on work allowed Liam to ignore the possibility of seeing Robyn... the individual his thread connected to... the precious soulmate thread which dictated a lover of destiny.
[break][break]
His species forbade acting on those desires for endless romance and happiness. The Belmonts were supposed to be loyal matchmakers who assisted with couples discovering love and maintain their relationships. Tradition existed, and Liam was expected to uphold those values. The constant focus on school work kept his thoughts from wandering to fantasies of holding his soulmate's hand, pulling them into a hug and eventually their faces getting close- no need to speak on those actions! They would never exist between him and Robyn, it was the forbidden fruit.
[break][break]
Answers were being etched until suddenly, there were no more questions to answer. The young boy's green eyes widened as he realized his task was completed and therefore, his distraction gone! He needed something to keep his thoughts off Robyn else he thought of those romantic curiosities, like how warm his hand- STOP! The anxious young man rose from his desk, cautiously approaching the teacher whose gaze was on the computer screen. A sideways glance was accomplished by Liam's somewhat distracted teacher.
[break][break]
"Yes, Liam?" He stated, eyes returning to the computer screen.
[break][break]
"Um... I finished my work... May I go to the library and get a book, please?" He quietly explained and asked.
[break][break]
"Yes, go ahead. Come right back when you are done please," the teacher said, granting permission.
[break][break]
Hastily, the grey-haired teen turned away from his teacher and scurried towards the door. In a smooth action he slipped out the door, closing it behind him. A sigh of relief breathed through Liam's lips as he entered the hallway. Through the corridors he ventured, mind fixating on things other than Robyn. The cherubim hurried down the stairs, entering the hallway which led to the large school library. Softly, he pushed open the doors, entering without anybody paying much mind to him. He began weaving through the bookshelves, green eyes glancing over the spines of books.
[break][break]
A thought occurred as he traversed the book-filled room... The longer he took choosing a book, the less time he would be required to spend in the same classroom as Robyn. With those notions orbiting, Liam slowly walked through the halls, pretending to be uncertain about the book he wanted to read. Moments later, he reached the furthest corner of the library where old textbooks and yearbooks were stationed. He entered the hallway slowly, glancing around to make sure nobody spotted his walk into the section.
[break][break]
Gradually, he moved through the shelves, eyes flitting until noticing a young teen curled in the corner. Confusion flickered before dissipating to worry. Was there something wrong with the stranger? Hesitantly, Liam approached, a hand reaching to softly touch the other teen's shoulder.
[break][break]
"H-hey, are you okay?" He whispered.
[break][break]
Gently, the cherubim gave the mysterious man a little shake in hopes of gaining his attention. He wanted to make sure the stranger was not upset about anything or needed a teacher. It never occurred to Liam the teen could desire some time to nap.

it took him not even a full paragraph to put him to sleep. the book had fallen out of his hands and landed near him. he stirred only for a moment to get comfortable. his legs extended and he crossed his arms before continuing with his nap. he had picked a good spot. away from people and the noise. yes, despite them having to be generally quiet, some people were just a bit too noisy for his liking.
he wasn't sure for how long he had slept. he thought he was dreaming when he heard a voice. he couldn't make out what they were saying. he just wished they would let him sleep a little longer. then they started to shake him. yeah he wasn't going to be able to sleep for much longer. he slowly opened his eyes blinking a couple times before rubbing his eyes with the palms of his hands."what?"he asked softly, still half a sleep. he hadn't thought about who could be waking him, but he hoped it wasn't a teacher. then again they weren't yelling at him. [break]
Concern was evident on the grey-haired teen's face as he attempted to gain knowledge about the boy's condition. If the stranger required assistance, Liam was determined to lend it where needed or scurry off to fetch the librarian. The cherubim's large, green eyes watched the white-haired boy, curious on if he would respond to the actions being accomplished. The book on the ground and spread legs suggested the teen could have fallen unconscious and required healing. Anxiously, Liam awaited a reaction from his schoolmate, hoping he would receive one.
[break][break]
After a few moments of shaking, the teenager stirred and began rubbing his eyes with the palms of his hands. Relief showered over Liam similar to a hard rainstorm. There was a calmness that settled onto the grey-haired teen's shoulders, although, being aware did not confirm wellness. Sleepiness was evident in the stranger's eyes, hence revealing the truth about the white-haired kid's situation. He probably dozed off to the world of dreams while he was reading his book. Slowly, Liam released his fellow teen, hand reaching to awkwardly scratch the back of his head.
[break][break]
"Um... are you okay?" Liam asked again, anxiousness still in his voice.
[break][break]
Inquiring a second time was something the grey-haired teen decided there was no harm in repeating. He could at least assure the teen was alright, there was no harm in it.

how did this kid end up finding him? had he not picked good spot that was far enough away. could it have been that he was snoring? thus attracting their attention. he hoped not. that would mean he would be found no matter where he went off to take a nap. once rowan had uttered a word the shaking had stopped.
he yawned once more and stretched his arms straight above him. this was not how he wanted to be woken up. the kid asked him once more if he was alright. rowan stared at him blankly. why were they still here."i'm still sleepy."he told them as he grabbed the book that he had dropped."i'm fine kid."he said before covering his mouth as he yawned once more. he figured the kid was alright, but it was polite to ask."are you okay?"he did look a bit skittish."if you plan on telling the teacher, go ahead. i don't care." [break]
The cherubim's wandering through the shelves allowed him to discover the young stranger, although, he wondered if he wanted to be found, to begin with. Initially, Liam's thoughts never crossed the possibility of his fellow student desiring to hide amidst the library shelves. He should have maybe overlooked the quiet young man lying in the corner and instead had focused on "finding" a book. Then again, a distraction was a welcomed existence for the young cherubim attempting to avoid his soulmate at every turn.
[break][break]
The green-eyed boy stood, taking a few steps back to provide the stranger with the room he required to stretch. Silently, Liam witnessed as the stranger's arms moved straight up, a yawn leaving his mouth as he stretched. Oh dear, it seemed his fellow schoolmate was sleeping and he woke them without a second thought... There was a select group who would get annoyed at the short student's intervention to their slumber, hence, he hoped the boy he woke was not among them. There was more relief as the stranger stated he was alright and displayed no expressions of being upset.
[break][break]
The following words caused Liam's eyes to widen as the boy inquired about his well-being and informed him he could tell the teacher. Wh-what if the boy fell asleep on accident? He would get in trouble should he tell.
[break][break]
"Um... I'm fine," Liam began slowly, "and I won't tell. Sorry, I woke you."
[break][break]
The apology escaped Liam's lips naturally, almost as though the saying was automatic. Meekness infected the young boy's heart, thus he would sooner apologize than stir the pot. Avoiding conflict was considered the ultimate goal of surviving high school in Liam's opinion. Therefore, teachers would be unaware of the situation which unfolded in the back of the library.

he continued yawning as the kid answered his questions. why was he so sleepy today? it's like no matter what he did he couldn't keep his eyes open. well, it certainly didn't help that he had made himself comfortable. after stretching his arms, he figured it was time to stand up.
he couldn't even remember why he had picked out this book. he would probably end up placing it in the bin to be placed back in it's proper spot. he looked at the kid and nodded."alright. it's fine. i was going to wake up eventually."he said with a sigh. how long had he been out? he was positive his class was still here. then again if they left without him it wouldn't surprise him. after all the sub seemed a bit oblivious."were you going to get a book from here?"rowan asked as he moved out of the way. it's why he had picked this spot, because he believed no one wanted to read the books over here. [break]
The seemingly exhausted fellow student was a yawning machine it seemed. Through the answers, Liam watched as the mysterious boy proceeded to yawn. The display of tiredness proved the boy wished that somewhere in the school laid awaiting cot, however, only the nurse’s infirmary held such a luxury. Not to mention, students could not waltz inside and flop down onto the white mattress for a quick nap. The bed needed to be open for sickly students or those who became the unfortunate victims of thrown fists or schoolyard accidents.
[break][break]
Part of him wondered in the stranger stayed up late. There were plenty of high school students who indulged in those practices, Liam not being among them. In the Belmont household, discipline was practiced constantly which included the children being sent to bed on time. Perhaps it made Liam a bit of a goody-two-shoes at times, but he appreciated arriving at school well-rested opposed to absolutely exhausted. Finally, the student stood from his position on the floor, revealing his full height that was higher than Liam's; as a cherubim, he inherited those short genes.
[break][break]
He nodded when the stranger explained he would have woken from is slumber anyways. The young cherubim was relieved he woke somebody with a laid-back attitude. Then books were brought up and Liam recalled his purpose for coming to the library.
[break][break]
"Ah, yes... I almost forgot... but... I don't know what to pick anyways," Liam explained softly.
[break][break]
Plus the unmentioned fact of wanting to avoid his soulmate of a classmate for as long as possible to avoid accidentally falling in love! Cherubims could not be with their soulmates, it was a golden rule. Their jobs were to assist others in discovering their true love while never biting into the sweet, forbidden fruit.

the short nap had been good, it could of been better. he wasn't going to complain, seeing as he didn't get caught by a teacher and he wasn't exactly sure how long he had been out. he looked at the kid a bit more closely. they weren't in the same class right? he was bad with names, but he was sure he hadn't seen his face before in this current class. then again maybe he was in his class and rowan hadn't noticed. it's not like he went around jotting down every name of every kid he had classes with.
his social circle was small and he liked it that way. less trouble that way. rowan had asked him if he was going to get a book from the spot he had been resting near. he moved out of the way and chuckled softly at his response."you didn't anything in mind before coming down here?"he asked curiously. not that one needed to have a title or what not handy to browse the library."do you like scary stories? i've read a couple good ones i can suggest."he didn't look like the type that enjoyed getting scared, but he wasn't going to judge. for all he knew this kid actually did enjoy this stuff. [break]
There was a vague familiarity about the mysterious boy he conversed with, although Liam chalked it beneath brief passings in school corridors. They appeared approximately the same age and considering they attended the same school, faces could be familiar without a name to tag. Not to mention, Liam personally volunteered himself for the school matchmaker events and witnessed multiple names and faces; including those who regularly avoided sign ups.
[break][break]
Alas, Liam lacked a name to place to the white-haired boy’s face. Grey eyes gazed over the cherubim’s form, anxiety sparking as hairs raised. Intimidation pressured the small, timid student, causing his eyes to initiate a staring contest with the library floor tiles. The green-eyed child’s shoulders raised in an attempt to obscure the view of his face. He always got nervous when people attempted to achieve a glance over of his form, even when it was merely for recognition purposes. When the boy finished, Liam hesitantly glanced up at him, however, his green eyes refused to meet the stranger’s face.
[break][break]
The soft chuckle followed by the curious comment manifested a nervousness in Liam’s gut. Was he supposed to have something in mind?! Inside his chest, his heart anxiously fluttered while butterflies swooped inside his stomach. He wanted to appear normal, alas, his attempts to avoid full truth made things a tad abnormal... Most students could at least provide a genre rather than aimlessly looking around... The stranger continued, inquiring about whether he favoured the horror genre of literature. Immediately, Liam flinched and shook his head ‘no’ in a hasty manner.
[break][break]
“I... I... don’t want nightmares,” he squealed out, attempting to keep his voice hushed.
[break][break]
Romance or adventure books were oftentimes Liam’s favoured genres. Adorable romance novels warmed his heart with the amount of softness and exquisite interpretation of emotions between partners. It created happiness and furthermore gave a slew of date ideas for when he assisted his classmates. Meanwhile joining a hero on their exciting fantasy adventure resulted in him grinning in glee as villains were conquered and princesses rescued. As for horror? A NIGHTMARE-INDUCING SCARE FEST OF ENDLESS ANXIETIES AND SLEEPLESS NIGHTS!
[break][break]
Never would he desire those types of evenings where he hid beneath the warmth sanction of his covers, paranoid about every single noise. Whether it was Belmont Manor settling or the steps of a security guard on his rounds, it frightened him. For years, he swore off of horror movies in a desperate attempt to avoid those sleepless eves.

rowan had not been expecting that kind of reaction. he couldn't help, but laugh. it was clear this kid wasn't joking. which made things even funnier. he probably shouldn't of laughed, but it was his reaction that started it all. he had at least managed to turn away from the kid."sorry."he said as his laughter eventually came to a stop."are you sure though? i mean you kind of looked like you were interested."rowan added with a smile.
"i'm kidding, i don't want to give you nightmares. that wouldn't be very nice of me would it."he chuckled once more. it felt like he hadn't laughed in a long time. hopefully his laughing hadn't bothered the kid. any longer and he probably would of brought attention to himself."so if horror or scary stories aren't your cup of tea. what do you like to read?"rowans asked curiously. he figured anything remotely scary was out. no thrillers or mysteries. was he the type to read poems and such? he probably wouldn't find the kid with anything written by poe. [break]
After squeaking out his refusal to indulge in horror genre literature... the reaction he received was ill-favourable. Laughter erupted from his fellow student's lips at the answer provided by the meek-hearted cherubim. The grey-hair boy flinched, green locking gazes with the tiled floor, almost as though searching for support on the subject. Inside his chest, his heart quivered with fright over the upcoming judgement assumed to be shortly laid upon him. Did most students not fear the dark imagery featured in the horror genre?!
[break][break]
The sheer concept of ghoulish creature crawling from a blackened tar pit of villainously minded creations. With those thoughts, Liam shivered in fright about the creepy creations of twisted minds. Trepidation lurked inside his soul as he refused to glance at the face of the stranger. An apology was given, however, any genuine emotion discounted because of the sheer amount of laughter that occurred prior. Perhaps he should have kept walking as opposed to waking up the random boy discovered snoozing amidst the library shelves.
[break][break]
When the boy asked him if he was certain, Liam's eyes locking with the student's, wide-eyed and somewhat fearful. Immediately, he shook his head 'no' in a frantic movement.
[break][break]
"N-no!" He squeaked, covering his mouth.
[break][break]
The loudness of his voice was considered illegal in a library. He glanced away, being awkward because of his stupid mistake. The boy chuckled as he mentioned not wanting to scare him. Fortunately, the subject shifted to what his favoured genre of literature.
[break][break]
"Um... romance and fantasy," he answered quietly.
[break][break]
He prayed to Akari his favoured books would not be questioned or laughed at. Their relationship started off rocky and Liam was concerned about the situation.

after being awakened so abruptly. honestly was it abrupt? no, but rowan was going to deny that fact. he wanted a few more minutes of sleep. who knows how long this kid was trying to wake him up or see if he was alive. no wonder he was so scared. rowan was not happy when he get woken up.
he hadn't meant to laugh that much. his response was just too funny. he smiled at the kid and chuckled softly. asking him if he was sure that he didn't want rowan to recommend some scary stories. the response was rather quick."alright i got it. no scary stories."
if no one had heard rowan laughing for what seemed like hours, he doubted this kid being loud for a few seconds would capture anyone's attention. once they both had settled down, rowan had asked what they liked to read. since clearly anything horror related was out of the question. this kid was such an easy target.
though it wasn't like rowan picked on others for fun. he could be rude and a little brash at times, but he wasn't going to be mean for the hell of it. people liked what they liked. who was he to judge. besides he had clearly laughed at the poor kid enough. he did not want to make this kid cry. last time that happened he didn't hear the end of it for a week. he shrugged slightly. the kid was rather brave for admitting he liked romance novels. not a lot of guys would admit to that. again rowan could careless. people liked what they liked."i've read a couple fantasy ones, can't say i can suggest you any romance novels though."it wasn't like this kid was asking him for his suggestions or anything of the sort. [break]
#### words for @rowan [break] I'm sorry, my boy is shy. XD
[attr="class","newworldmid"]
Engaging in an interaction with this student was a questionable choice... For several minutes, Liam discovered himself being laughed at for disliking the ever-so-popular horror genre. Some children entered the phase of enjoying ghost stories or chilling flicks about terrifying happenings. Meanwhile, Liam only found endless amounts of fright in those stories. A majority of the time, he found himself quaking in terror until the latest hours of the night. Those thoughts kept them away from the genre entirely, not to mention, the nightmares did too...
[break][break]
If the boy planned on recommending scary stories, Liam was uncertain about what he would do to combat the situation. He wished to read saccharine romance or venturesome tales of fantasy. Fortunately, the light-haired boy agreed to no horror stories. An extensive sigh of relief breezed through Liam’s lips and his shoulders slumped in relaxation. The young cherubim genuinely hated reading anything associated with the horror genre. It heavily fixated on scaring people! The many trepidations he held by his heart always made him hesitant to even watch a second or read a word.
[break][break]
His fellow student mentioned a lack of book suggestions and Liam merely provided a small nod. The stranger preferred a genre opposite to one of his... The sweet softness in romance books was something few boys enjoyed. Adults usually described them as rowdy and wild compared to the other genders available. Thus, Liam was neither surprised or bothered by not receiving hints on what he should read. Although, the awkwardness the cherubim possessed only led into silence as nervously stared at the tiles, uncertain what to say.

he sighed softly. who would of imagined his sleep being disturbed by some sweet kid. though he had been a bit grumpy at being awoken, honestly who wouldn't be? it was a pretty good nap, considering how hard he was out. he wasn't particularly a hard sleeper. despite the grumpy awakening he managed to be alright with it. after all his stomach hurt from how much he had been laughing. he would have to thank the kid, though he probably didn't appreciate getting laughed at. still it had been such a long time since he laughed like that.
he just hadn't been expecting a reaction like that. it was great and definitely took him by surprise. clearly. rowan yawned once more and stretched his arms behind his head. as much fun as he was having he knew it was probably time to head back. he could already start to hear the chorus of students pushing their chairs back from the tables they were sitting at. he pulled out his phone to check the time and he guessed it.
he was positive the kid had enough of him. besides as much as he didn't want to head back to class, he was positive this kid wouldn't let him continue his nap. which was probably for the best. he only had a few more classes left before it was time to head home. he cleared his throat."well, good luck with your search."rowan said as he started to head back to join his class.
