Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
City Life in Lorsette could be as magical as it's inhabitants. Or as scary as the beasts that lurked beyond. It was both filled to the brim with ways to make a fortune, or loose it. People wanting to protect, and those that wished harm. Joy, or depression. Life, and death. It honestly was quite the place to live. And so filled with people. It made it rather easy For one to slip Right through The cracks.
It had only been a week or so sense the assembly had attacked the TRS headquarters. Launching an assault straight for the medical ward. Many caught up in the attack had unfortunately lost their lives. Many more were injured. Yet the TRS was persistent if anything. And had begun to pick up the pieces almost as soon as they had fallen. And when all was said and done everyone was accounted for. Everyone, not everything. As even after looking through the rubble the agents couldn't manage to find some item that was labeled under restricted files.
A single thing labeled 'ITEM IN CUSTODY - WILLIAM'
Though that wasn't to say William was missing. More... Misplaced than anything. After having been released from the hospital the young man had just simply wandered off. Due to the fact that his room had been destroyed in the attack, as well as the rather unfortunate wording of the receptionist who told him he was 'free to go'. And being that his existence in the TRS was largely a secret it wasn't like anyone had shown up to retrieve him. As most low level agents either didn't know he existed, or weren't looking for a person at all.
Yet his sudden ejection from the hospital did cause several problems for the young man. The first of which being that he had absolutely no where to go. With no idea of what he was doing. The city before him filled with endless possibilities, but none came to mind. Like being stranded on a boat at sea, surrounded by all sides by water, without a drop to drink. The very same thought giving the young man an idea. He remembered a lovely blond barista he had met some time past. The idea of coffee and a conversation sounding rather pleasant. And if anything it may even give him some insight. And after a lovely walk he found himself at the cafe. Slightly giddy as he pulled open the door and hurried up to the counter. Though as he looked around Charlotte was nowhere to be found. As instead he was greeted by a rather bubbly fellow whom seemed rushed on getting the young man's order. After a quick back and forth, and a transaction. William found himself standing outside once more. This time with a cup in hand as he stared blankly down the street.
He didn't have a clue what he was doing, or even why as he stood there. Remembering the circumstances that had brought him to this point. He wasn't sure why the assembly had attacked, yet he couldn't help but feel some blame for what had happened. As if it weren't for him several hunters wouldn't have been hurt. Without thinking his legs began to carry him down the street. Wandering aimlessly along the sidewalk with no real destination in mind. Too busy mulling on the idea that perhaps the TRS had decided he was too dangerous to keep around. Yet it didn't take long for the city to find a way to distract him once more. As he turned a corner to notice a vibrant patch of orange and green in the distance. Curiously his brow raised as he began to close the distance. The foliage becoming more lush as he arrived at the entrance of crow feather park. Taking in the sights he let out a slight sigh. Trying to put the negative thoughts out of his head as he wandered along one of the stone paths. Until finally coming upon a small bench right on the side of the trail. As he had been walking for quite a while at this point a rest seemed quite nice. So he briskly walked over and sat down. Both hands gently holding the cup of dark liquid in front of him. And for a moment, he actually felt quite peaceful.
Violet eyes stared into the depths of the centerpiece’s fountain, the crystal blue waters vacant of the koi fish the park promised. A wooden sign had been placed beside the centerpiece, explaining that the exotic fish had been removed for the fall and winter season. Thannah turned her gaze up to peer at her surroundings, finding the array of autumn colors to be the foreshadowing of a slow death. Winter would strip the land of any color, and was by far the most morbid of the seasons. [break][break] Negativity loomed over her like a gray rain cloud as her mind wandered to the impending start of the school year and what she would and wouldn’t find in Lorsette High. What sort of bullies would she meet there? What sort of foul creatures and corrupt powers? A knot had tied itself within her stomach, as she simply wasn’t certain of what the future would hold. Who would be her ally? What would she honestly be able to do in this world? The city of Lorsette hadn’t been a blessing in disguise — it had been a nightmare. [break][break] Thannah gracefully turned about to face the opposite view of the fountain, her strawberry-blonde hair left down in the fall weather to cascade halfway down her back and over her shoulders. The long sleeved pink-knit sweater she wore was one size too big, the cuffs of her sleeves coming over most of her hands as she squeezed them delicately together at her midsection. A nervous smile graced her features, her bottom lip tucked under her teeth as she looked around the park, seeming to innocently fret. [break][break] It was then that her gaze just so happened to fall to the man seated upon the bench that overlooked the right side of the trail and the fountain centerpiece, in which she currently stood. Really, he was only a dozen or so feet from her, and the sudden company brought a rosy tint to her cheeks. He looked to be only slightly older than her, perhaps even her age, and from his appearance alone, she felt that he may have had fae blood in him, as she recognized some of his features to match her mother and sister. And, well, her, if she were to be honest. He didn’t have her mother and sister’s unnatural beauty. [break][break] “Ah, hello,” She greeted him with a reserved meekness, clearly appearing to be flabbergasted by whirling around to find him sitting there a dozen feet away from her.
Hello, I decided to join! I hope my response works well. ♥[break] Edit: I happened to glance at the chat and saw that you and Chibi were talking in there about the thread, and that you had asked Foxxy to reply. I'm fine with deleting my response (oops) but I'd also be fine if you guys wanted to turn it into a group thread. Sorry about that! xD Just let me know what to do.
William's emerald eyes stayed looking downward at the still steaming pool of dark liquid sitting in his cup. The crisp fall air biting at his skin. Yet the warm embrace of the beverage seemed to make things much more barrable. Pleasant even as he sat there on the little bench. He let out a little sigh as he continued to wrestle with his own thoughts on what to do next. He had been so lucky before, having a place to stay, and plenty of meals. That is before the TRS had 'let him go'. And now he was stuck with what little money he had left. With nowhere to stay, and no one he knew in the city that he could rely on.
He grumbled slightly at the thought. The entire situation being quite frustrating. "Why couldn't the hospital just let me stay..." He thought to himself.
He could feel a slight headache coming on. The constant back and forth in his mind putting a strain on the young man. He began to tap his foot somewhat impatiently as he expected some sort of idea to fall out of the sky. His brow scrunching slightly. And in a desperate attempt to calm his nerves he suddenly raised the cup to his mouth to take a big sip.
Yet several things had gone wrong. The fist being that William had vastly underestimated how hot his coffee still was. The second being that as he began to sip he suddenly made eye contact with a girl he hadn't noticed before. Staring directly back toward him and standing not more than a few yards away. His eyes grew wide and he felt a sudden spike of pain in his throat. Even as she spoke up William was unable to process anything. His body reacting instinctively as he pulled the cup away from his mouth and began coughing up a storm. His free hand reaching up to cover himself.
A few moments later and he had managed to recover slightly. Red in the face he started to look back up toward the girl whom had startled him. "H-hello." He said rather embarrassed.
However, as soon as the blond's gaze flickered up to her own he was suddenly choking. Thannah’s violet eyes widened considerably from the shock of the male’s violent display of coughs. Certainly taken by surprise, she didn’t hesitate to step forward and reach out toward him with one hand. However, she thought better of it as she drew close, instead drawing her hand back as she favored her bottom lip. [break][break] She was suspicious of the outside world and its inhabitants. What may have appeared innocent or alarming could have been a ploy or manipulative trick to garner the consequences one was looking for. Inwardly she sighed to herself, thinking of how full of malice and distrust she was. Another thing she often wondered was how many other people out there were like her? She was sure that there were others whom possessed powers even beyond her wildest imaginings. [break][break] All of this was true and yet she had to admit that the male’s red face and watering eyes made him seem rather convincing. Thannah placed a worried smile on her features and looked sympathetic. “Goodness, are you all right? I’m sorry for the surprise.” [break][break] She drew her hand back to her side and straightened her posture to her full petite height, and brought one sleeve covered hand to the side of her face to brush away a few stray strands of hair. “I was quite surprised myself, ...i-if that makes you feel any better.” She offered sheepishly.
Teary eyed and red in the face. All William could do was contentiously cough into his hand as the girl drew closer to him. He could only make out blurry glances of her as he tried to calm himself. The sight of her outstretched hand giving him slight alarm. As he wanted to warn her that touching him wasn't the wisest of ideas. Yet he had no way of doing so, currently preoccupied with doing his best to just remain breathing for the moment. Luckily however he didn't need to say anything, as she lowered her hand on her own. Instead deciding to keep a slight distance from him.
He didn't blame her, after all he was a stranger. And from what he was told there were all sorts of people in the city that may or may not be the greatest of individuals. Her actions showing that perhaps she even considered him to be untrustworthy. The thought of witch would have made William chuckle had he not been coughing. As he was slightly amused by the idea of anyone finding him 'scary' by any means. Finally beginning to settle down William let out a few deep breaths. His attention now turning up to the blond girl whom had begun to apologize for startling him. Still regaining his ability to speak all the young man could do was shake his head for the time being. Squeaking out a few words as he did so. "N-no.." He said before coughing once more to clear out his throat. "No, really. You are perfectly fine. It was my mistake. If anything, I should be the one apologizing. I didn't mean to give you such a startle as well." He said with a soft chuckle.
Thannah’s violet gaze roamed from the soft but pained features of the male and to the cup of steaming coffee he still held gripped within one hand. A belated sort of realization dawned on her as she realized that not only had he choked on his drink — but apparently he had scalded himself as well. Her cheeks harbored a rosy tint to them as she favored her bottom lip in worried contemplation, inwardly feeling a sting of irritation toward herself for not opening her mind. To her own defense, she had been brooding over the coming school year, lost within the shallow blue depths of the empty koi fountain before she had been taken by surprise. [break][break] Furthermore, she was also a little hesitant to practice such a thing… in public. Still, temptation now called her quite powerfully, and she had always been so bad at squandering those little voices in the back of her mind. Thannah listened to the hoarseness of the poor lad’s voice as he attempted to speak on her behalf despite the rawness of his throat. [break][break] H-How could she… make this up to him? Her gaze nervously surveyed the park grounds as the blond spoke, and then just so happened to come across a small ice cream stall, with its customary blue and white striped umbrella, and a woman behind the counter. Thannah’s features instantly lit up. [break][break] “O-Oh, I… I have such a wonderful idea,” She cheered, turning her gaze back to the male seated in front of her. “Can you... stay here for just a moment?” She made soft hand gestures as she hesitantly backed up a step and then another before she turned to rush over into the small line at the ice cream stall. [break][break] Five minutes later she returned with two popsicles and promptly held one of them out for him to take. “I think this should help you,” She offered with a grin and tasted her own. It was already late into October, and rather chilly, but she supposed having an ice cream treat wasn’t too far fetched for this time of the year.
A slight nervousness began to overtake William as he sat there staring up at the young woman. Feeling rather awkward for having acted so foolish at the mere sight of her. He hadn't meant to startle her in any way. As a matter of fact, he hadn't even noticed her at all when he took his seat on the bench. Too busy being lost in his own thoughts. Deep in contemplation on where he was going to go next. He didn't have any real skills to survive in the city. His formal education ending at the fourth grade. After that he had left to live with the fae. And now. Now he was stranded in the city without a clue of how anything worked. Or even where he was.
His fingers began to tap quietly at the cup of coffee in his hands. Sitting in awkward silence in front of the girl for a moment. It wasn't as if he didn't want to talk to her though. As it had been a little while since he had had any real conversation. He just didn't know where to start. The TRS had specifically kept him from interacting with anyone out in the city for safety reasons. So his small talk was rather limited. After all it wasn't like he could just lead with 'Hey I'm William, and I'm completely lost.' Or could he?
At least he didn't have to think long. As she rather cheerfully spoke up toward him. His eyes grew wide at the sudden outburst. Looking at the girl rather confused as she asked him to remain seated. "Ok." It was the only word that sheepishly left the young man's lips. And then suddenly, she took off. Rushing to a small cart on the other end of the fountain. Curious William craned his neck as he tried to see what she was up to, to no avail. So instead he just resorted to sitting there timidly. His feet swaying slightly as he awaited her return. He didn't have to wait too long however for her to make her way back. Returning with two small colorful sticks. And when she got close she jutted one toward him. Saying that it would help.
His brow raised slightly as he eyed the object. One hand reaching forward slowly, and ever so gently. Retrieving the popsicle while carefully keeping himself from grazing her fingers with his own. As he claimed the treat for his own he looked at the thing puzzled for a moment."A stick?" His eyes shifting up to the girl whom by this point was already enjoying her own. His brow cocked once more as he figured he would at least give the thing a try. And with one quick motion he popped the majority of the treat into his mouth. Though he immediately regretted his decision. Pulling it free he shook his head back and forth a few times. The sudden rush in his mouth being rather overwhelming. "It's cold!" He exclaimed. Yet as the shock from hot to cold began to fade it was replaced by something completely different. A sweetness that seemed to overtake his senses all at once. "Oh my.." He said looking back down at the stick of ice in his hand. "What do you call this?" He said waving the treat forward at the girl.
The fair haired male stared in wonder at the popsicle being held out for him to take, and Thannah watched him closely as he tentatively reached out to gingerly grip the end of the stick and carefully bring it to him. Admittedly, she was surprised by his apparent ignorance over something that was so common in the world. But, she kept such things clear off of her soft and smiling features. As he investigated the frozen treat, Thannah opened her mind to his, spying a quick glance around the park to ensure that she could contained it to a small radius that was only between her and the other male. Th-This was her first attempt at something so nefarious, and she had to admit she felt a bit of a thrill racing in her heart. [break][break] The male at first tried the popsicle but immediately drew away from it in astonishment when he realized that it was cold. Thannah giggled a soft laugh. However, inwardly she wondered how someone could possibly be this dense. Hmm, but it was true that the world was filled with terrible beings. Either he was playing her a fool or he’d been extremely sheltered his entire life. [break][break] Surveying him as she was, Thannah could tell that the male was genuinely perplexed by the popsicle and its wonders, but she wasn’t so easy to believe it. When he looked to her, asking her what it was called, she smiled at him prettily. With a humorous glint sparkling in her eyes she answered, “It’s called a popsicle!” She told him with wonder. “H—Have you… never had one before?” She asked, clearly baffled and surprised by her deducement.
"Popsicle." William repeated tentatively. Taking a moment to examine the strange frozen treat. It wasnt anything spectacular by any means. Yet it seemed to captivate the young man none the less as he began to wonder how the thing was made. It was tart, and sweet, like some sort of fruit. But it was unlike any he had tasted before. A stark contrast to the dark roasted flavor of the coffee he had been drinking. Now stuck with an item in each hand he glanced between the two. Unsure as to which of the two he liked more. As he began to compare the pros and cons of each something rather odd interrupted him. Not a person or thing by any means, but a sensation. As if a shiver had run down his spine, or much like the feeling of being watched from afar, it was just something he couldn't quite put his finger on. His gaze quickly surveyed the area, yet nothing had changed. And everyone else seeming to be going about their business as normal. He blinked a few times, thinking it must have been nothing.
"No..." 'The fae..' "They didnt have anything like this where I'm from.." He said, a slight homesickness coming over him as the words left his lips.
He let out a slight sigh, realizing only too late how foolish his actions had been. He had left the fae, left his home. In search of his human parents that may or may not even be excited to see him. For all he knew they may even be dead. And now here he was, stuck in a foreign place. Away from the people whom had brought him here. And he didn't have a clue about what anything was. Least of all a popsicle. As soon as the thought of the treat crossed his mind William became flustered. His eyes snapping back to the girl in front of him as he realized he had rudely ignored something rather important. "Oh my! Where are my manners." He said abruptly. "My name is William, and thank you for this 'popsicle'." He said with a soft smile.
Seeing into the male’s thoughts was… startling, to say the least. He was like a child, looking between his coffee and the frozen popsicle, attempting to determine which one he liked the taste of more. Well, if she hadn’t been certain of it before… she was certainly certain of it now. Thannah glanced off to briefly gaze around the park as she brought one of her hands through her hair, combing it over one of her shoulders. She couldn’t quell the nervousness that fluttered in her stomach, which she found to be a shame. She needed to be able to control herself, considering the paranoia she felt over others being able to read her. [break][break] “No…,”’The fae...’“They didn’t have anything like this where I’m from…” [break][break] Had he just…? Thannah’s violet gaze returned to him first with mild surprise, but then an understanding nod. However, her mind reeled and she quickly tried to separate thought from dialogue. She’d already had trouble with Nicolas when she had practiced her powers on him. Everything had become jumbled together and by the end of it all she had been terrified to bring up anything in the conversation. [break][break] Thannah listened to the male’s introspection and learned, quite surprisingly, about how he had left his home, and the fae, in order to search for his parents. He referred to Lorsette as foreign, but Thannah had gathered that a lot of things were apparently foreign to him; like popsicles. She tried to not become too overwhelmed by the information overload and sectioned everything off into one corner of her mind before having a bit more of her popsicle. [break][break] “Oh my! Where are my manners!” He abruptly spoke up and garnered her innocent, wide-eyed expression. “My name is William, and thank you for this ‘popsicle’.” [break][break] “You’re welcome, William.” She giggled light-heartedly, and even gave him a bit of a childish, but cute, grin. “I’m Thannah. May I ask… where you come from? The place with no popsicles?” She teased.
Even though William's actions were childish he seemed completely oblivious to the fact the girl had noticed. Having been raised through his adolescence by the fae he hadn't really progressed much sense his childhood. Not to mention the fact that in their eyes he was still a baby at best. Their own lives often tripled or even quadrupled his own before they were even considered to be a child. And like a unwatched infant william had managed to crawl away. Getting himself caught up in all sorts of messes in the process. But hindsight is 20/20, and there was little he could do about it now. As he didnt have a clue how to even return to the fae if he wanted to.
But he didnt have time to dwell on the past. Instead he was too preoccupied with the girl in front of him. As well as the odd feeling giving him occasional goosebumps. Though at first he had been unsure of the girl he was quite confident she could be trusted by this point. As she hadn't done anything suspicious. Hell she had even given him sweets. But in the back of his mind he still remained just the slightest bit warry. After all the TRS had told him to be cautious of anyone when he was out in the city.
Still he figured there wouldn't be much harm in at least introducing himself. After all, besides a handful of people, no one in the city even knew he existed. "Thannah.." William repeated to himself as she returned the greeting. Yet she continued speaking quickly after. Causing William to fall silent for a moment. 'Ok.. that's easy, just um...' He let out a slight nervous cough, his mind desperately searching for an answer. "Well uhm.." 'The TRS... no they wouldn't like that.. the fae? NO, definitely not that! Think... what did they tell you to sa-' "Out of town." William suddenly blurted out. 'great.. subtle.' He started to mentally grumble at himself. Not quite satisfied with the response he had chosen.
So instead he did the one thing he could think of. Try to change the subject. "S-so you? Where are you from miss Thannah?"
