Mooney I'm the monster under your bed. general info
appearance Mooney has a row of too-many, too-sharp, serrated teeth jutting out of her pointed jaws. Her eyes are a piercing yellow with a slit black pupil---unnatural, uncanny, yet still remarkably human if seen in the right light. Her perfectly smooth and ironed attire, and braided-back hair without a thing out of place, gives her the distinct impression that something's too normal about the way she looks, like a drawn caricature of a human being. Her movements are unnaturally smooth and slow, like it was planned and inhuman in a way. All these individual parts just don't seem to click together. personality
Mooney is very changeable and whimsical---while she may be helpful one moment, she may be antagonistic or neutral the next. This behavior could be attributed to her egocentric personality. Years of isolation and a lifestyle the required her to do amoral things to survive has made Mooney self-centered in morality and thoughts and, while she may be friendly, in the end she is currently incapable of feeling empathy towards another person on a level above brief affection or the desire to keep an interesting person or object. Living life without any sort of hierarchy or discipline has made Mooney a wild spirit who indulges and hasn't learned much respect. On the other hand, Mooney is untouched by bias and, almost innocently, has no care for a person's species or history. She's remarkably tolerant and is not openly malicious, preferring to be more open and friendly most of the time. Although she tends to tell lies to feed off fears and for mischief, she keeps her word and accepts her losses. abilities Dream Manipulation (Mastered) --- An innate ability of the Boogeymen and an ability that Mooney has honed to survive. She's able to create dreamscapes and manipulate existing ones to suit her needs. In the dreamworld, she's capable of doing whatever she wishes---until her target wakes up. Illusion Manipulation (Advanced) --- Unlike her ability of create, enter, and mold dreams, Mooney hasn't had as much practice with illusions as she'd like. Existing mostly in the night, Mooney rarely has to use her ability other than for when her victims wake up or when family (or nature) comes calling to conceal her existence. Although making people think that a glass of spoiled milk is fine wine is a fun thing to witness. Curses (Intermediate) --- Again, curses are pretty good for pranks when people are awake, not when they're asleep, and Mooney survives off the dreams of living people and not the dead so long-term effects are generally a no-no. Still, no one ever died from a harmless swollen tongue or the odor of rotten bananas. Night Vision (Natural) --- Yeah, if you can't live in the sun then night vision is definitely a requirement. And yet, in the end, Mooney has ended up with more stubbed toes than she can count. Self-Sustenance (Natural) --- When you're unemployed and making a grand total of $0 annually, feeding off of alternative sources is mandatory for survival. Mooney feeds off the fear of others, as does the rest of her species, and it is a lot cheaper than bacon. Fear Inducement (Natural) --- An ability any respectable Boogeyman has and, to be honest, it isn't like Mooney really needs this ability. Her face is enough to scare any suitors away. Age Negation (Natural) --- 100% off today only, a formula guaranteed to keep wrinkles and crow's feet off your face. backstory Mooney doesn't know much about herself: who her parents were (if she even had parents), her name, who she is, or even where she's from. Funny story is, it wasn't amnesia or a curse or the like. Just like the dream worlds she finds herself in night by night, Mooney doesn't have a beginning or an end. In the same routine of corrupting dreams into nightmares and feeding off her victims' fears, unable to survive the day and forced to survive in the timeless, confusing, abstract landscapes created by living minds, Mooney simply forgot along the way and didn't care enough to remember. There wasn't much to ground herself to. Being a slightly monstrous boogeyman associated with Hell's forces, a creature that can only live off of the suffering of others, and being unable to go out into the daylight makes job-hunting and social network building pretty hard. Going from person to person, house to house, and feeding herself nightly was the only way to go. Thus, Mooney lived her days by going through the motions, barely finding joy in even twisting realities under her once exciting abilities and imagination. Until Zeredah. Despite Zeredah's goals of peace and unity in the aftermath of the War of Traitors, the Terrors that Zeredah brought amazed Mooney. The new nightmares she gazed into were beyond whatever she had previously thought of. No longer was fear being restrained to nightmares but also in daily life where people were terrified of what Zeredah's atrocities were capable of. And it inspired Mooney whose existence had relied solely on the night, whose name she took from the moon and whose life revolved around sleepy dreams in the dark. Mooney, who caused fear in the night, looked up to Zeredah who caused fear in the morning, the domain that Mooney herself was afraid of. And, with the revelations that Zeredah brought her, Mooney stayed up till morning, took an umbrella, and for the first time her in her life, stepped out into the sun. misc
