Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

Summer 2022
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] Hector is at least glad that she's decided to hold on to her own skirt for safety measure; at her statement about the windy weather, he grins and shakes his head, before turning back to the path toward the cemetery. Danika is fun to keep company, he notes to himself. He just wishes she'd take care of herself if there were situations like this that could potentially scar her for life. One could only imagine what her reaction would be if the wind had blown up her skirt up high. But Hector doesn't like thinking about that.
[break][break]They continue to converse for a few moments, until they have finally reached the cemetery. She urges him to try and search for them, and he complies, walking around the first part of the cemetery in search of two names... or perhaps four. Some names are all dusted, and after dusting them off, he discovers that it isn't their name written. Some stones have been chipped off for old conditions, rendering some names blurred or cut or unable to be read.
[break][break]Seeing none of their names at all, he shakes his head, and Danika declares that they search the next part of the old cemetery. "Alright then. Shall we go?" He agrees, smiling as he offers a hand for Danika to take. If she would take his hand, he would carefully traverse the next paths, with rocks more chipped and more mangled than anything he had ever seen. Both of them should be careful with this.
[break][break]Hector turns to the young woman with a small smile on his face. "I hadn't really expected the cemetery's paths to have rocks as broken as these the first time I came here." This is all half-truth; he had expected well-paved cement for guests to walk on, but maybe he had his hopes too high. Still understandable though, as it is but an old cemetery. "But then again... it doesn't pain me to try walking on rugged paths like this. It all feels like a new walking experience, to say the least."
she rarely wore dresses or skirts, but yet she managed to find one in her wardrobe. why hadn't she checked the weather. well, she had. how was she suppose to know that the weather was going to change. it's not as if she hadn't lived here so many years now. if anything she knew how fast the weather could change. honestly she hadn't thought she would giving a tour. she could move things with her mind and teleport. predicting the future was not one of her abilities.
she didn't mind it though. she figured the skirt was long enough it wouldn't go anywhere. just to make sure she kept her arms at her side. they had finished with the old part of the cemetery and he was ready to move on to the next. he had stretched his hand out to her and she took it without a second thought."lead the way."she said with a smile.
she nods at his words."nature has a way of taking over."sure there were other parts of the cemetery that were more maintained than others. she laughed softly."this is nothing. we trained on all sorts of terrain."she told him before realizing he probably had no idea what she was talking about."im in the trs."she said with a nod."training would be all over."she laughed softly.

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] Danika takes his hand, and his worries of tripping against loose tiles are lessened. He holds it tight, and as they traverse the rugged path, they continue talking about the state of the cemetery grounds. It's nothing, she states. She tells him it is the result of training; whatever training meant. At this, he turns his head to her with a raised eyebrow, confused. The word 'training' already seems really suspicious, and Hector always wonders why he finds this the strangest word of all.
[break][break]She seems to read minds, and so she clarifies, revealing that she worked with the TRS and that training had just ended. He nods his head and hums in understanding. The TRS is known for fighting off the evils of Lorsette, mostly in war with the Assembly of Phantoms who want the opposite. Therefore, rigorous training would be immensely required. It's understandable for someone like Danika to mention such things.
[break][break]"Ah, the TRS... I've heard many things about your organization." He comments, although he does not mention the things he had heard specifically. He has so much more questions to ask her about it, though, and not just about the things about them. "How is the war against the Assembly going on, if I am allowed to ask you?"
[break][break]Speaking would have to wait for a while, though; as he looks back to where they are, (almost tripping against a loose tile again, much to his embarrassment) he sees the other part of the old cemetery. "Here we are." He announces, climbing down the stairs built just beneath them before they are able to reach the tombs. "I should think that after the search around this area, we'll exit and turn to the other parts after."
[break][break]Then he realizes that Danika may have already gone tired of guiding him around. The young man scratches his head, and he smiles sheepishly at the green-head. "...I-If you're still up for it...? But if you refuse that is totally fine. I can search for them myself."
she felt his hand tighten around hers, but she didn't mind. she knew how hard walking around here could be. she would pick him up if he were to fall and she figured he would do the same. she smiled at the look of confusion on his face. it had seemed she was right. it was funny how often she could just say things and assume everyone knew what she was talking about. had she been at headquarters most people would of understood what she had been referring too.
she quickly explained, catching up to speed on what she had been talking about. she laughed softly."hopefully good things."she said as they continued to walk and talk. she smiled softly."i mean we haven't lost. honestly i don't think one side is really beating the other. not to say we aren't trying."she says with a small nod."though im mostly in the medical ward. don't see much action outside those four walls."she tells him with a small laugh."sorry that probably doesn't sound very reassuring."she says with an apologetic smile.
"i'll be here if you ever get hurt."she says with a slight blush creeping on her cheeks. thankfully they had reached the next area even though he had stumbled a little bit. she was able to keep a hold of him and not let him fall. she didn't say anything. he was probably embarrassed as it was and figured not mentioning it would be better.
"sounds like a plan to me."she said as she continued to walk with him. she looked around this part. everything seemed to be intact here. sure there were some headstones that were dusty, but they were still able to read the names. danika nodded at his question."of course. what kind of a tour guide would i be if i left you while there is still half left to see."she said with a smile."plus i still have to show you some secret paths."she said with a wink. though honestly they were not so secret, they were just paths people stopped taking.

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] She proceeds to explain the TRS conditions with the AP, and states that at least they are trying to stop them from causing havoc. He nods in understanding, even after she tells him she could not see much action due to being in the medical ward. At least they are trying their best, and that is something Hector is proud of about that organization. He sometimes wonders how the Assembly and the TRS came to be, but questions such as these are already entering the organization's private space. As a commoner, he would just have to slash curiosity out of the line.
[break][break]They arrive at another part of the cemetery, walking down the five-step stairs. The tombstones are more larger than from what has been seen back where they were; some tombstones lay on the ground, though, which would probably prove as a disturbance. He turns his head and catches the small blush on her face after she tells him she'll take care of him in case anything happens. A small pink hue finds its way to his face, as well, and he nods at this with a grin. "Thank you, Danika, but then again I wouldn't want to worry you." He states, walking up to the tombstones.
[break][break]Again, there are no familiar names engraved, and he sighs, almost wanting to give up. Maybe he should just tell her why he'd been walking around the cemetery in the first place. It would be a huge insult to her, and half to him if he said that, however. His exploratory requirements have been satisfied, but not enough. He wants to know other facts about the cemetery. He can think of no other excuse aside from this.
[break][break]She doesn't seem to go angry when she tells him it's alright to explore further, even winking at him and adding they still had secret paths to explore. He chuckles heartily and walks up to the other tombstones, swiping dust off to see the names. "Thank you. Secret paths it is, then." He says, winking back at her with a grin.
[break][break]His smile falters into a frown when he discovers nothing more. "Argh. It's not here again--" He almost yelps in surprise when he bumps into something from behind his back, and he turns in surprise. Other tombstones... he doesn't expect them to form a wall as the end of the old cemetery. He explores the names of the tombstones, not seeing anything familiar--
[break][break]His eyes suddenly widen, and he quickly wipes off the dust from the tombstones now in front of him. "...Danika." He calls in a quiet voice, still staring at the names now staring back at him. "...They're... here."
[break][break]The two tombstones contain the names of his parents, long dead from when he was a child.
she really wasn't the best spokes person for the trs. though it seemed like she did an okay job at answering his question. he seemed content with what she had said. that's the first thing she would do, catch up on any new updates. she tried her best to stay on top of things like that.
they continued to talk even after her little blunder. she was glad he didn't take it in a wrong way. she was not throwing herself at him. she really was there to help anyone who needed it. she wasn't going to turn anyone that was hurt away. she smiled softly and nodded."of course."
the search continued. at least most of these headstone were not as old and could be read without much difficulty. he thanks her for sticking with him and she shakes her head."it's really no trouble. glad i could be of help."she told him with a smile.
the smile on his face starts to fall and she looks at him with concern. maybe the people he was looking for were not here. that would be terrible. not because they had spent so much time here, but because he hadn't found them.
danika had gone off ahead of him a couple of feet. she had been reading one of the tombstones when he called out to her. without a word she started walking towards him."what? really?"the feeling was bittersweet. she was glad she found them, but it was also sad that they were not around. then again she wasn't sure how old they were and if they had lived to their old age or if they had passed away young.
it was more painful when someone young passed away. at least if had been for her. the person she had lost. losing anyone no matter how old they are would always be painful.

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] He doesn't expect to actually see their names engraved in tombstones. But right now, he stares back at those names with wide eyes, and he tries to once again to forget the past that had now left him so long ago after he had grown up. They did the most unimaginable of things, things that their only child had always been a victim of. Hector does not miss them; in fact, he is somewhat glad that they are gone. But looking at the names brings him a nostalgic feeling, something even he couldn't accept.
[break][break]How did they end up being buried here? Was he not notified of nearby friends who took them home?
[break][break]He hears Danika calling from behind him, wanting confirmation of what he had just said. Hector does not face the girl, and instead keeps staring at the two names of separate tombstones. Father and mother dearest, the ones who had abused him while he was merely a child with no value... do they really deserve something as grand as being buried in the Old Cemetery?
[break][break]
Here lies Herald Meredith [break]May your soul Rest In Peace
[break][break]Here lies Kalilah Meredith [break]May your soul Rest In Peace
[break][break]Hector falls silent for a few moments, his throat clasped tight of all moments where he wants to scream in anger.
[break][break]Instead, he does not let anger consume him. His mouth finally finds the words to say.
[break][break]"...I... never thought they would actually end up here." He mutters, anger quite evident in his voice as he glares daggers at the two names in front of him. "I... I didn't expect they would be this greedy to have a burial here, of all places. After all they have done... to me, of all people, their child..." He stops speaking, tears pricking from the corners of his eyes. "...I cannot forgive them. Ever."
[break][break]He could not control his feelings any longer, and he ends up breaking down while throwing a hard punch at the tombstone. His knuckle is bleeding, but he doesn't mind.
she had thought it was be a bittersweet experience once he had found them. happy he had found them, but sad that they were gone. she was not expecting him to react like this. though she had to remind herself that she didn't really know that much about him.
she ran towards him once he called to her. she stood there watching him fall apart. her heart ached for him. she stays quiet, not wanting to interrupt him. he needed to vent, let everything that was hurt him out. she jumps a little startled by his sudden flash of anger. he had struck at the tombstone, as if he wanted to knock it down, but it still remained standing. no one was safe from being hurt. she wasn't sure what was more painful, being hurt by a stranger or someone you thought cared about you.
without thinking danika moves closer to him wrapping her arms around him. her hand caressing his head as she tries to be someone of comfort for him."it's alright. they can't hurt you anymore."she says softly still holding him close to her.

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] He shouldn't be acting like this. It is the work of a child, of his past self trying to pry into his very maturity. But he knows what he is doing. He is portraying anger before the very eyes of a stranger, and trying to show it to the ones lying behind the two tombs. But he constantly reminds himself that he is an adult. He no longer lives in the past as a child. He does not live with these two dead people anymore, and he knows they are not going to bother him any longer, as they are long dead.
[break][break]He is suddenly pulled into a hug by his company, and he hears her reassure him the same thing.
[break][break]Hector wants to believe it. He really wants to. But the thought of them actually buried here when they should have been lying in blood back home to be left to rot... it greatly bothers him. Who brought them here? Who buried them? Who granted this long-gone tradition to them? How? How did they get here? Their home is far off into the woods, how would anyone meet them there? How? How?Howhowhowhowhowhowhowhowhow--
[break][break]...The young man softly pushes her away and wipes the protruding tears from his eyes. "...Thank you, Danika. For reassuring me." He would be lying if he said he wasn't grateful he hadn't met her. No one would be able to comfort him the way she does so if he were in this disposition alone. "I believe it. But... it greatly bothers me to see them here when they should have been rotting dead back home." He quietly states, not turning to her but glaring at the tombstones.
[break][break]It was then he turns to her, his angry expression turning into a blank one. She is one of the TRS, maybe she should have heard of this news even with her position as a simple medic. "Have you heard of the 'Killing of the Two Tigers', once brought up years ago?"
there really wasn't much more she could say. sometimes it was okay just being there and being willing to listen. she could only imagine what he could have gone through. clearly by his reaction it was no small thing. she felt him move away from her and she let him go. he thanks her and danika smiles softly at him.
he tells her that he knows they can't hurt him anymore. though by the sounds of it, he really wasn't expecting to find them here. she wasn't going to question him. she wondered what he had meant. were they not suppose to be buried here? she kept her questions to herself not wanting to make him go through anymore pain.
it takes her a few seconds to realize he had hurt his hand. she starts to look through her purse. knowing she had to have something to at put on his hand."let me see your hand."she tells him as she pulls out a small first aid kit. it didn't hold much, a few bandaids and alcohol wipes. she holds her hands out ready to take patch his hand up with bandaids.
he asks her if she heard anything about the killing of two tigers and she's quiet for a moment trying to remember if she had heard anything of the sort. she sadly shakes her head."im sorry, nothing comes to mind. though if it's a murder or something i really wouldn't get that type of information since im in the medical ward."she explains to him wishing she could have the answers he was looking for.

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] They share a few moments of silence, after he asks her if she had heard about the tiger murder case years ago. As a child, he never cared to look at the newspapers before. But having already grown as an adult, he was struck with shock and grief once the case had been mentioned in the headline. For Hector, it was impossible for the case to make its way to the newspaper. Had there been friends of strangers who happened to report the crime? Hector hadn't seen any visitors enter their home... that is, since his parents don't allow it.
[break][break]Maybe this is the very reason why they ended up here in the first place. He, at least, needed to be informed of them. But that is unless a bit of his pride is attacking him once more.
[break][break]Danika tells him to give her his hand; at first he wants to ask hand, but shortly after he remembers once the sting of his right hand suddenly flares, as if to remind him. He falls silent for a few moments, hesitant, before finally, he sighs and gives in. Without a word, he raises the bruised hand, bloody but he doesn't feel any pain in it anymore.
[break][break]While he is treated, the medic gives a response to his inquiry, denying any knowledge of the case and giving a reason for the lack of information. "Ah. I see." Was the only thing he could say. He should have known. Medics are only supposed to be able to give their support to the medica field. Hunters are in charge of the cases mostly caused by the Assembly of Phantoms, but they mostly give murder cases to the police. It's a matter of the skill they are practicing, really.
[break][break]He closes his eyes and sighs. "Can I tell you a secret? And can you promise not to tell anyone you know?" He asks, staring at the young woman and waiting for reassurance.
danika had never really been the type to watch the news or anything news related. honestly if her father wouldn't of told her every morning what the weather would be like she would of been under dressed half of the time. there was so much sadness in the world already, she didn't need a constant reminder.
her hands are still waiting for his and eventually his hand is resting on her own."this will sting."she tells him as she gently cleans the blood away with an alcohol pad. she works quickly and starts spreading antibiotic ointment, in the hopes that it would help his hand heal a bit faster. after that she finishes up sticking a couple of bandages and securing them with medical tape. while she worked she told him all she knew, which wasn't much."sorry i couldn't be of more help."she told him apologetically as she patted his hand softly."you're all set."
she stuffs her first aid kit back into her purse and stays quiet for a few seconds. she nodded softly before speaking."i won't tell a soul. cross my heart and hope to die."clearly there was a reason he was willing to share something so personal with her. she would keep his secret safe, she would take it to the grave if she needed to.

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] Danika warns him that the treatment will sting, but he is prepared and simply nods in response. Nothing stings him more than wanting to know how his parents had been taken to this very cemetery and buried. So many questions bombard his mind, but his poor little heart could not tend to these questions yet. Right now, silence and Danika keep him company. He is not in the mood for such questions yet, nor will he be able to be.
[break][break]The wound and ointment make contact, and he hisses softly but doesn't jolt in pain. Instead, he looks at the hand being tended to by a tender pair, and sooner than later it is fully covered by bandages. The sting is still present but it slowly fades away. The young man looks at his hand and smiles softly. Impressive work, he thought as he turns to Danika.
[break][break]She apologizes, but Hector shakes his head. "Danika, you've been of more help than anyone else. Don't underestimate yourself so much." He shakes his bandaged hand and smiles. "Thank you." It's all he could say, but these two words mean something much more bigger, something even a sentence of a thousand words would not comprehend. He always remembers to thank anyone who helped him. It's a virtue taught to him by two important people in his life back when he was still a child, and so he remembers it to this day.
[break][break]He is brought back to their current conversation, something he brought up at first once Danika tells him she won't tell a soul. He blinks and sighs, turning away from her to stare at his parents' names. "...Can you imagine your grandparents killing your mother and father, just for your own sake?" He asks again but does not wait for an answer. "I was born to a family of shifters, such that we could turn into white tigers at will. Granny and Grandpa killed mother and father for the wrongs they had done to me." All so suddenly his eyes soften and he chuckles silently, a sigh escaping his lips once more.
[break][break]"But sometimes I do question myself if I am the wrong one here, for bringing them to commit murder, all for my own safety."
she works quietly still focused on what he's saying. after finishing up with the little treatment she lets his hand go. danika smiles at his kinds words. it wasn't much, but she was at least able to patch him up. he thanks her and she shakes her head."you're welcome. it's no problem."she reassures him.
soon after they return to things that were left unsaid. she promised with her life not to reveal the nature of the secret that he was willing to tell her. with how things had ended up. she had a feeling that it was going to be something serious. she stayed quiet allowing him time to process. surely a secret such as that wasn't easy to talk about. he begins and she stays quiet, not wanting to interrupt. taking in all he's saying. imagining what he had gone through, what lead them up to this point.
she understand his guilt. many times she had felt the same. she blamed herself for her mother leaving them. she wasn't sure how to proceed. she didn't want to say the wrong thing and hurt him even more."it's not your fault."she starts as she speaks softly."there are many things people are willing to do for those that they love. i'm not saying it should of been there first choice..."she tells him with a nod."maybe they didn't have a choice? i don't want to assume, but it seems to me they cared about you immensely. enough to kill someone in order to keep you safe."there really wasn't anything that she could say. only his grandparents knew why they had done what they did."it's not your fault."she repeats."you didn't force anyone to do anything. people made their own choices."

[attr="class","jawntattxtdiv"] She is silent while he narrates, entirely focused in patching up his bruise. Covering it is useless, however; the scar will remain in his heart. But he appreciates the effort put into it, especially since it was someone willing enough to do it for him. He closes his eyes, not allowing the tears to escape. But feelings are stubborn. They let them come out anyway and show the weakness still in Hector's living being.
[break][break]Danika should not be hearing about this. It's a sensitive story, and as much as he was willing enough to share if needed, it's only to those who absolutely knew him, or wanted to know him. Funny how a stranger whom he met at a local cemetery was a profound victim of his story turned to a tragedy. Others who he had spoken to would either want him to stop, or just ignore him like he hadn't said anything at all. And he doesn't mind it. They shouldn't hear about it in the first place.
[break][break]But he's thankful enough to know that Danika doesn't seem to mind hearing it, and she does care.
[break][break]After his statements she begins to speak; they are all words with meanings intertwined into one. But most times, Hector couldn't help but blame himself for his grandparents' predicament. Sometimes he wished he wasn't even born. Without him, no one would have to care about beating him all for a mistake he did not do, and no one would have to care about going against this by killing they who had raised him.
[break][break]However, what's done is done. There's no changing the decisions of Fate.
[break][break]He stays silent for a few moments, leaving the aura around them quiet... and very deafening. "...I try to tell myself that." Were the words that manage to escape his lips, followed by a sad sigh. "And I try to tell myself that it's all over, that I could not change anything anymore and I would have to walk another path all on my own without having to think about those choices they made. Reminding myself of it would become a problem at this attempt of forgetting." He smiles and turns to the medic. "I came here to see if I have truly forgotten. Looks like I wasn't successful."
