Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Summer 2024
Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
Since the wonderful members of TDOM enjoy the site enough to play around on it, this thread is to assist with the site's tidying! Functionality is important and we want to make the site functional even if its activity will be minimal at best!
Aidan stared down at Zheig. He understood completely that Alistair had control of this golem. And whoever the golem was it wasn't their fault for what was happening. But he had unleash the beast that was threatening to overcome him. He looked down into the red eyes and thought he saw a trace of the man that was behind the golem. Not Alistair but the other.
"Listen...can you hear me..can he hear me..." Aidan said as he panted. His right arm was completely done. Broken in at least 3 places from that one swing that sent this metal man flying back through the air. His knuckles were busted open and bleeding and blood ran from his head would and splattered on the pavement in small crimson drops.
"Alistair...I don't know how you're doing this...or how you're still alive. But don't involve any of these people with this. I got out for a reason. The beef you have is with me...I see you're still a damn coward taking control of others and having them do your dirty work for you..." he said as he gazed at the man with his good right eye, the left side now closed from the blood that was running down his face. He swung another punch with his good left hand at Zheig's face. Aiming to strike him directly between the eyes. He would then try and grab the back plate. Using his good left hand and roll Zheig over. If he was successful he would try and wipe off the blood seal.
If Zheig started an attack on him, he would try to defend himself to the best of his abilities. He didn't know how effective he would be with his now mangled right arm, but he'd fought through worse injuries and had come back from the brink of death more than once. I would treat it like another street fight...but there are too many unknown factors with the crowd around... he thinks as he feels all their eyes on him and Zheig.
Despite just taking a beating that would left a normal person in far worse shape than Aidan was in himself, Zheig just sat up slowly and stared Aidan down. The golem was about to get to his feet again when the human male swung another punch at him. His metal head bounced off the concrete, and his nose plate dented inward. Alistair grunted and growled in frustration as Aidan shoved him onto his face and tried to get at his back plate.
"Don't get too cocky! This isn't even close to done. If you've got time to worry about the crowd then I clearly haven't beaten you enough." And with that, Alistair sent Zheig's elbow back towards Aidan's ribs by rotating quickly in place. He'd follow through by grabbing Aidan's head if the elbow worked and he managed to get enough time to turn to face Aidan. If this happened, he would give Aidan a full on headbutt and then knee him repeatedly in the stomach. Alistair knew that, even though Aidan could take a beating, it was still heavily taxing for him to carry on while being so injured. Zheig, on the other hand, was made of metal and rock. he didn't feel pain like that, and he was strong enough to carry his own bodyweight with ease while also being incredibly durable. In a physical brawl, Zheig definitely had the advantage just because he was so durable. Toughness and durability weren't the same thing, and if this fight drug on it would really show.
But there was a third actor in this fight, and the stage was set for him to make his move. Alistair was starting to gather Electricity in one hand, that hand sparking and crackling with visible bolts arcing between the fingers of Zheig's hand. Just when he was about to shove a lightening infused punch into Aidan's face, Zheig intervened and threw that punch straight up to the sky, narrowly avoiding Aidan's head. The electricity diffused upward in a shimmering blue bolt and crashed into the ceiling. The sudden power surge sent the building into a total blackout and scorched a large black spot in the ceiling. No doubt the electrical surge would do large amounts of property damage to any electronics in the mall, but it saved Aidan from being barbecued and it tripped Alistair up so Aidan could make another counterattack...
"I see you, Alistair. And when I'm free from these bonds...I'm coming for you." Unlike his previously desperate or concerned tone, now Zheig's voice was filled with anger.
Almost immediately Alistair took control once more. "Shut up and be a good mind slave or I'll toss you into a volcano when I'm done beating this whelp to a pulp!"
Aidan felt a surge of triumph as his fist slammed into Zheig's face and sent the golem's head bouncing off the concrete. As he tried to roll the golem over and reach for the back plate he felt Zheig's elbow smash into his ribs and heard a cracking sound as more pain shot through his body. Cracked...or broken for sure... he thinks as he uses the white hot pain to as fuel to keep himself going. This was the thing that had always made others terrified of him. His will. He could overcome pain that would send any normal human into unconsciousness. He reached forward to try and slam Zheig's head back into the concrete when he felt the golem's heads slam into his own face, his eyes began to water and he was pretty sure he could add a broken nose to the list of injuries he'd gotten from this fight. He felt the breath get pushed out of him as Zheig began to knee him repeatedly in the stomach. He took the full brunt of the assault and he noticed that there was lightning building around Zheig's right hand. Aidan knew that if he didn't do something now that this attack would more than likely kill him.
I've taken too much damage here as it is....I've got to figure something out... he thinks as he glares into those red eyes with his own left eye, the right side of his face now covered entirely in blood. His hand and ribs ached terribly. But he had to stop Alistair. I have to stop him. If he knows where I'm at...he's going to come here. He'll come looking for blood. He already sent this one after me...how many others does he have in his service...I have to tell someone...or I'll have to leave to get them away from this town... Aidan thinks as he watches the lighting crackle around the fight. He spat blood to his right as he saw the fist begin to move.
He closed his eyes, and waited for inevitable blow that would take his life away.
When the punch didn't land he opened his eyes and saw Zheig's fist aimed at ceiling. Aidan decided to act quickly. He swung his own left fist at Zheig's jaw, and would then attempt to slip behind the golem, while putting him into a rear naked choke hold. Seeing as how Zheig was made of metal he wasn't sure how much this would hurt him. But he needed to get behind him so he could get to the blood seal that was written on Zheig's armor.
Got to end this quick... he thinks as he realizes that he's about reached his limit. When this is over...I'll tell Kurenai everything...and leave if she wants me too. But regardless I have to try and protect her...this is my mess...it followed me here...I'm sorry everyone...
It was late in the afternoon when Kurenai received orders to lead a small team of Unit 3 hunters and medics to intercept a disturbance at the Halo Crown Mall. According to the report she was handed, it seemed a brawl between two individuals had broken out and was causing severe damage as well as endangering the lives of innocent bystanders. They were to head there and intercept it, as well as do whatever it took to end it. As Kurenai and her squad headed to the mall in the TRS response vehicle, she briefed them on their objectives. "Alright everyone, Johnson, Reina, and I will take care of the combatants and focus on stopping the fight. Aston, Julia, and Frederick you three help evacuate the people inside and treat the wounded outside. Judging from the reports we received, there are only two hostiles. Hopefully they won't be too much trouble. Look alive and don't be too reckless, alright guys?" They arrived shortly after the briefing finished. They all hopped out of the van and headed to their positions, the medics stayed outside to set up the medical tent and assist the wounded. Kurenai and the two other hunters headed inside. However, Kurenai halted in her tracks upon seeing who the hostiles were. One was a man clad in metal and the other was... Aidan. He looked almost half-dead but yet still alive though he was badly banged up and bleeding a lot. She could tell he had been trying to fight this awful tin can and was getting beat the crap out of. Kurenai began seething with anger. Reina stepped forward to address the metal clad hostile."YOU! In the armor! Halt! We are hunters of the Terror Response Syndicate's Third Unit. If you do not stand down we will have no choice but to use for-- WAIT! In the middle of addressing the hostile, Kurenai took off like a rocket towards the metal clad man.
While running towards him, she covered her fists and forearms in solid bedrock, jumped up in the air just above the metal clad hostile. As she made her fast descent back down, she would attempt to crush his skull in using her pure physical strength combined with her Earth Gauntlets. If he dodged, her next move would be to let her fists connect with the ground and use her earth manipulation to trap him by raising the earth beneath his feet all around him and restraining him to make it near impossible to break out unless he was an earth manipulator or had an ability that could allow him to escape. If that failed, and he managed to dodge that too, she would then try to surprise him by crushing him with boulders from both sides. If he counter, she already had an idea for blocking or dodging using her ability to manipulate earthen elements.
Aidan's rear naked choke was half-hearted at best given that the man only had one properly functioning arm, but with Zheig's help, Alistair was being restrained. His control was shaken and Zheig was keeping his body rigid rather than trying to move against his controller. In the mean time, some new arrivals rushed onto the battlefield and announced themselves. Before they could finish their announcement, however, one of their own had rocketed forward at the sight of Aidan and launched an all out offensive to try and put Zheig down for the count.
All Alistair had to do was turn Zheig around. A quick whip of his body and he rolled to face the other direction, leaving Aidan in the direct path of Kurenai's double rock fist slam. She seemed to have planned ahead, though, and when he made a defensive maneuver, she intentionally swerved to miss Aidan and him. Instead she slammed her fists into the concrete and closed up two hunks of rock around Zheig like a clam to trap him in place. This also meant Aidan was currently trapped if he hadn't let go to avoid being clobbered by the read headed woman earlier.
Zheig didn't have anything to say. He was relieved that help had arrived, but he was concerned that his own body may be heavily damaged by this battle...and he didn't know if he could get repairs.
Alistair, on the other hand, just laughed. "I'm disappointed that you interrupted our bit of fun, but I'd be more than happy to give you my full attention sometime. Maybe in a less volatile environment? You look like the sort of woman who really doesn't enjoy getting her hands dirty in the first place." Naturally he was speaking to Kurenai despite the fact that she had him trapped neck deep in stone clamps.
Aidan knew that his choke hold wouldn't bring the man down, but he was determined to try and bring the golem down. He didn't want Alistair to hurt any of the onlookers. His old friend turned enemy had never held human life in general in high regard. He's probably watching right now...he would. He'd want to see me die in person.. Aidan thinks as he smiles a ghastly smile. His body was a mess. But he'd seen far worse injuries and survived. It's not quite my time yet...I won't give in... he thinks as he feels his strength starting to ebb away slowly.
That was when he caught a glimpse of crimson hair in the crowd. His left eye widening slightly as he heard her voice. Terror Response Syndicate...but if she's here...then he'll know...if he's watching... Aidan thinks as he sees Kurenai darting toward him and Zheig. As Zheig, turns for him to take the double fist slam, he would push off of Zheig with his good left hand, smearing the golem's armor with his own blood, and hopefully covering up the blood seal that was on his back plate. He crashed onto the hard mall floor hard, landing on his bad right arm and his ribs. He gritted his teeth to hold in the scream as another bolt of agony shot up his right arm. He laid silently on the ground for a second, gaining his composure before he slowly pushed himself back to his feet. His right arm, hanging uselessly at his side. He was panting hard and each breath sent a wave of pain through his body as he wondered how many ribs he had broken.
Hearing Alistair speak again through Zheig, and noticing that the golem was encased in stone thanks to Kurenai, he turned to the golem. "Dissappointed? Yeah...I'm sure you are...but not half as disappointed as I am that you're sending others to do the work that you started. If you really want to kill me...why not come out here and do it yourself...I'm ready...and I know you're watching...are the others with you?" he asked as he reaches up and holds his busted right arm with his left. He looked bad, he was sure of that as he turned from the golem to Kurenai, his right eyes closed from the rather large amount of blood that was running down his face.
"Kurenai...it looks like you showed up at the right time. Thank you." he says as he looks at the beautiful crimson haired girl before him. He was as always entranced by how good she looked. She really had come at the right time, if she had been just a little later he probably would've been killed. He suddenly catches a glint out of the corner of his left eye and he looks up, scanning the rooftops of the buildings set across the mall. Binoculars? A scope? He is watching...he never could stop himself from enjoying the suffering of others... Aidan thinks as he steps forward still looking around. He stumbled lightly and fell to one knee. He was more spent than he'd realized. Not from the length of the fight, but from the brutality and from blood loss.
"Shit...." he muttered as he tried to stand, and manages to do so by pushing himself against a wall and sliding up. Groaning at the pain in his busted ribs.
Alistair stared down at the carnage below. His cold blue eyes had watched from the start of the fight until it's eventual end. He'd anticipated that Aidan might win the fight against his minion. What he hadn't anticipated was the arrival of the woman. The crimson haired woman had intervened immediately before things had gotten out of hand. That had infuriated him, but he quickly calmed down. He didn't want to lose face in front of his comrades. No, not yet.... he thinks as he gazes down at the street below. His eyes trained solely on Aidan. He could feel anger stirring inside of him at the thought of his last meeting with the man. It hadn't ended the way he had anticipated.
Everything was perfect...but Aidan had somehow bested him in combat...He'd never lost a sword duel and his hatred for the man increased as his eyes narrowed. He wished more pain on the man as he looked away from the front of the mall and down at the katana he clutched in his gloved left hand. It was his own, but he'd brought another. One that would seem intimately familiar to Aidan. His left hand tightened around the sheath as he glanced back up at the mall. The wind blew his long blonde hair back away from his face as he waited patiently. The trap had been set for Aidan, and things were moving along as he'd anticipated. He tried to see ahead but for some reason his vision seemed clouded. All he could see was darkness. That had also caused him to almost lose his cool.
No...I must stay in control...the others don't suspect me. Why would they? I'm the fearless leader who led them off the streets and into paradise. I'll make you look like a fool Aidan...he thinks as a small smile touches his lips for the first time in a month. The stone hadn't worked...not like I wanted. But it did bring me back. Tatsuya's death was worth it. He died so that I may live...
He looked around at the two guards who were with him. He'd recently hired a large company of soldiers to assist the Enclave in their job of capturing Aidan. He'd hadn't told the others, he also hadn't let them know about Zheig. He wondered if they were nearby watching as well. He'd told them via a text message that he had located the traitor and that he had gotten in a fight with another individual.
What I really wonder, is why Aidan? Why are you doing this? Alistair thought as he opened the coms link that he had established with the rest of the group earlier and spoke briskly and calmly into it.
"Target spotted. He's at the front of the Halo Crown Mall. It appears he was in a fight with another patron. One he no doubt started on his own. There was some outside interference and it appears the TRS may now be involved. We'll withhold our attack for now. It wouldn't do well for us to be captured or talked to by the authorities. 001 out." he said as turned off the communicator and noticed that Aidan had stumbled to his feet and had somehow managed to gain them again. Despite the severity of his injuries.
He'll decline going to a hospital. Maybe he'll ask the girl to help him escape. But you won't get away from me Aidan Alexander. You cannot escape your fate.
Kurenai's plan to trap the foe with her earth manipulation worked. Aidan managed to avoid being trapped along with him. Although, it looked as if he'd still taken considerable damage. While Aidan sat, slouched against the wall in pain, he thanked Kurenai for stepping in when she did. Although the man who was now trapped in clamps of earth, unable to move an inch, simply laughed. He was annoyed that she ruined his "fun" but he'd be glad to give her his full-undivided attention at another time. Kurenai simply glared at him. Followed by her scoffing at him. "Sorry, you aren't my type. Plus, after you caused this much damage and severely injured a civilian, I doubt you'll have the time to do anything where you're going." The medical unit responders began evacuating the bystanders who had stuck around to watch the fight. Some had light concussions from rubble that had fallen from the sealing. While others had worse injuries though nothing compared to the level of damage Aidan had taken.
While still confronting the restrained hostile, She called over a medical unit respondent to help Aidan out to the medical tent set up outside. "I'm not sure who you are or what you wanted to accomplish here but you're gonna have plenty of time to explain it." She said as she took out her phone and called into headquarters. She told them that the hostile was restrained and the second hostile was on the defense and was now being treated at the medical tent. After she got done speaking with headquarters, she ordered Johnson to guard the medical unit members as they carried Aidan to the medical tent for treatment.
Then, with some slight hand gestures, the earth that had kept the hostile restrained, came loose from the ground, while keeping him still trapped but now transportable. "since you clearly aren't a terror, you get to live and be interrogated." She said as she began to walk towards the entrance with Reina following her and the trapped man not too far behind. Once they got over to their vehicle, Kurenai moved the chunk of earth holding Zheig, into the back of the car that was like a holding cell. Granted she didn't release his hold but she did lock him in there. Once he was put inside, she then received a lecture from Reina. "Just what in the world were you thinking jumping in like that?!?! You could have gotten yourself killed!"
"Aw, c'mon Reina-chan~ Everything's fine, isn't it?" She said as she groped her teammate from behind, causing her squeal in surprise. "W-w-what the hell are you d-d-doing right now Senpai?! We're still in the middle o-of a mission right now!" Kurenai simply smirked before letting go and putting distance between herself and Reina. "Booo, you're no fun. Its not like I haven't done it before." She said with her hands behind her head, looking bummed.
In the most awkward, yet calm and collected tone that one could imagine, a very different voice came out of Zheig's body than the venomous, manipulative one that Kurenai had first heard. It was genuine and not so malicious, to be sure. "Excuse me, miss. If you could not damage the hardware that would be greatly appreciated. Repairs are expensive. Also, there's a blood seal written on my back plate. Please make haste in removing it and I will come with you without resistance."
Zheig glanced over to Aidan and shook his head. "If only I could have held back more...Damn you, Alistair. What gives you the right to steal another man's body?!" Despite the intense tone of his voice, his words were said at a low mumble now. It didn't seem to matter to him whether Kurenai heard or not, though. These words were mostly directed at Alistair, who he knew was certainly still listening since he still had some control over Zheig's body.
Zheig was more than a little annoyed now that the authorities had become involved, because it didn't seem like they'd be interested in listening to anything he had to say. They saw him as a threat, not a victim. The golem understood why they felt that way, though. Even while holding back considerably, he'd still cracked the concrete ground, walls, destroyed a car with a man's body as a projectile, and punched a hole in the ceiling of the mall using pure electrical energy.
Aidan leaned against the wall holding his shattered arm and glancing around at the carnage. He watched Kurenai work and he smiled at her, before turning away and looking back into the distance where he'd seen that slight shimmer. I know it's you Alistair. I don't know what else you have planned but if you're here for me. I'll come to you willingly. You don't have to send anyone. Or, do you think I'll tell the others about what happened...More importantly, how are you alive? I felt your body go limp in my own arms. Aidan thinks as one of the medics approached him and guided him to a nearby medical tent that had been set up faster than Aidan would have thought possible.
As he reached the tent he pulled away from the medic. Looking at the medics helping other he knew he couldn't stay here long. No, with the damage done to my body. They'll send me to a hospital. I can't risk that. Not yet. He's still out there, the others might be in danger. Hell this whole town could be in danger.... he thinks as he looks up at the medic who had kindly guided him over to the tent. He asked the man to please wait, and he walked over to Kurenai and Reina, and the now incapacitated and locked up Zheig. Ignoring the pain in his arm and ribs. The gashes and cuts didn't hurt anymore and it seemed the wound on his head had stopped bleeding for now. He stopped a couple feet away and spoke up.
"Kurenai, can I talk to you for a minute. Alone?" he asked his one visible brown eye locking onto her own amber eyes. His voice was soft but strong. Even though he was busted up and felt like he was going to collapse. He had plenty of stamina left over. No I feel weak from blood loss. I don't think I've got any internal bleeding from the damage to my ribs. But it sure hurts like hell. I need to tell Kurenai to get me out of here. I can take care of my own wounds. Besides I'm not sure what Alistair will do next. This attack was sloppy, and that is one thing Alistair isn't. If he wanted me dead, I'd be dead.
"We need to get all of these people out of here. The man who attacked me. I don't think he was in control of his own actions. He was being controlled by someone else, and I think he's still around. Maybe the others are with him. But he's still here somewhere. Watching." Aidan said as he stepped closer to the two of them. He turned and looked at the thick steel doors on the vehicle that Zheig was now locked into.
"Alistair...are you still there? If it's me you want. I'll come. But don't expect me to go down easily. Just promise me you won't hurt anyone else. You've done enough damage as it is." Aidan said trying to hide the anger in his voice and failing as his left hand clenched tightly into a fist.
Or if I leave he'll follow me and leave the others alone... Aidan thinks and left eyes widens suddenly in realization. That's right...I'm the one he wanted this whole time. It wasn't just a warning. It was an invitation...
Alistair watched the carnage below and knew it was just about time for him to leave. He picked up the handheld radio and headed down the steps and to the exit of the building that he had been standing on top of. As he exits the building two masked soldiers approach him. He watched them with icy blue eyes and the hand that held the sword never moved. The street he was on ran parallel to the one that was now crowded with TRS agents. He would be obstructed from view by the other buildings.
"Sir, everything is in position just as you wanted." the first soldier said withering under the intense gaze of Alistair. Alistair nodded curtly, and continued heading away from the building. Walking to a nearby car that one of the soldiers hurried over and opened the back door. He stepped inside as the soldier closed the door gently behind him. The soldiers weren't part of the Enclave, but part of the mercenary company he had hired to sabotage the mission back in New York. The one where young Tatsuya had met his unfortunate end.
With a sigh, he pulled the glove off of his right hand. He then wiped away the blood seal that was written there. Severing the connection with Zheig. He had heard what Aidan had said, and he decided that he would answer him with a little more flair. He picked up the handheld radio and held it inches away from his face. When he spoke into it, all of the speakers in the immediate area would crackle into life and his words would issue forth.
"Aidan. Do you think you can bargain with me? The rest are already here too. I don't want you to go down easily. No, not you... I do have something to say to you and everyone else around you. The man that you just stopped, is a known felon. He's wanted for multiple crimes back in the United States, including murder. So I'll ask that none of you allow this man into your homes. If you do we'll come and kill you. This man is a traitor who betrayed The Enclave. And now we've come to your town to take back what is ours. Number 004, Aidan Alexander, your life is now forfeit for your betrayal. But I have a solution, if you come to me tonight, at midnight, I'll spare the lives of everyone you've met since you left. Since we're both new to town, I've taken the liberty of choosing where our meeting will take place. I'll see you at the Old Battlefield, on the outskirts of town, that seems fitting doesn't it? You want to spare these people? The only way to do that is to do exactly as I say. So long Aidan. Remember, midnight." Alistair finished speaking into the headset and motioned for the driver to go. The driver pulled out of the parking space and drove off into the city to be lost among the rest of the traffic.
