Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.

Heat has broken through into a glorious summer. The snow has entirely dried through the spring, leaving to the brilliance of the warmer months. Terror activity has risen as people are brought out of their homes, leaving the TRS in a position of consistent work. Each are attempting to maintain victory in the endless struggle for power.
With April, an activity check has arrived for members to do! Please post on the AC and tag all your accounts, including WIPs and OOC accounts. Failure to post on this AC will result in your accounts being marked inactive or deleted. Please note, due to a late start, the due date for this check has been adjusted for one time and one time only.
Their eyes danced between the current experiments vitals on the monitor and the clipboard they had been writing down all the information they were taking in this moment. A low hum of what seemed to be a random pop-song left their lips as they went about doing this task. Chen had a routine when it came to working with the test subjects. They were always going to have check ups-- once in the morning, another in the middle of the day, and lastly a final check up at night. They made sure to write make note of even the slightest thing or change. It was important to note for the chance of a sign of something abnormal among the doses and various other fluids they'd inject within these unfortunate people. [break][break] Normally Chen would be better with taking notice of environment changes or a good example was the current sound of what seemed to be footsteps approaching but the fallen angel had been much to preoccupied by the current patient at hand that when they turned to retrieve a tool what they saw suddenly in front of them earned a small yelp and a jerking motion backwards. [break][break]
"----AH!" [break][break]
A noticeable flush of embarrassment from making a fool for getting so scared over Juvia's sudden appearance. "You shocked me!" Their free hand rested against their chest briefly as they exhaled a deep breath of relief. It wasn't uncommon for Juvia to come and visit from time to time but usually they were much better at noticing right away! With a clear of their throat and trying to desperately move past that embarrassing sight they just made-- they lean over to retrieve the stethoscope. "Oh mannn, oh mann! You gotta promise me you'll pretend that never happened. To think I got that scared.... ahh, well I'm happy to see you." Even if Chen did greet her with a shout. [break][break]
"Did you come to come orrr you need me for something? Well... I'm happy to have your company either way~"
Juvia could remember the day she had first met, Chen. Who she views as loyal even to this day. She knew that she could count on them to continue the research with a few of the other AP that had joined up along the way. She found herself always coming back here, never for business unless it turned into that when she showed up, should they require her assistance. It always gave her great pleasure seeing them working hard on the research or walking in on Chen while they worked. They had history after all and Chen was the only person in this god forsaken world that she could truly trust. AP was a close second, however. She had wandered towards the Ivory Fortress before making her way towards the AP HQ before lingering outside for a bit. The weather was nice outside today. Though she decided within a few hours to head inside, choosing to visit her lab because nobody interesting was outside to entertain her. Slow footsteps would echo down the hall as she walked towards her old lab that now had Chen as well as many others, over seeing her previous work. She turned into the lab, making her way around until she caught sight of them, clearly focused on their work.
She slowly approached, not minding that they were busy working before stopping behind them, waiting to see what would happen should they turn around and see her. Sure enough, she got the perfect reaction when Chen had turned, yelped before jerking backwards. Watching their cheeks flush with embarrassment was priceless, as was them pointing out how she had shocked them. Watching Chen place their hand over their chest, earned a giggle to escape from her lips as she watched them. "Sorry... I couldn't help myself." She admitted playfully, clearly amused. She listened as Chen pleaded with her to promise to never mention that what had just happened, had in fact happened. "Why?" She asked, moving closer to them, still being playful. "I'm happy to see you too." She answered before adding, "To visit."
The further teasing received from her made a whine leave their lips. They should have known Juvia wasn't going to drop it as they had asked and definitely would keep with persisting. Such treatment made them happy but still... it was at the expense of their own embarrassment and Chen didn't do good when all flustered like this. "It's fine if you talk about it around us but-- well, don't mention it to anyone else! I've finally managed to give off a cool image, y'know? If it gets broken I'll never be able to get it back." Among the people who they worked with, a lot of newcomers since Juvia's departure. As much as Chen would love to work on this project by themself there was no way that was possible.[break][break] "A visit? Well, I'm glad! A visit from you always livens up the place!" They clicked the button to the pen, scribbling down the results of their findings. This patient had been irregular all around. Poor reactions to the injections they'd give, difficulty breathing on his own at times. In previous attempts, this was usual sign of it not working out-- usually said patient would end up dying within the following weeks. Chen sighs and whistles out a disappointing as they gazed one last time at the subject. "Think this bud here is waving the death flag. Ahh, how sad. He was responding real well in the beginning too."[break][break] Chen turned to face Juvia, their smile returning almost immediately. They did have some other work matters to get started on but with Juvia here, work suddenly became the lower priority here (not that they'd ever say that out loud). "Do you wanna look around? I've gotten a bit more staff since your last visit so the amount we can do overall has increased. Oh! We also have a few promising subjects, showing signs we haven't really seen yet so far so it's been pretty exciting! "
Juvia couldn't help but giggle more when Chen whined. They were so adorable and easy to tease. "Awwww come on now, too cute." She'd answer them in return, not promising to keep her lips sealed. She wasn't one for spreading gossip but it gave her another chance to tease and she wasn't about to lose this chance. "You'll be fine..." She added, waving her hand at them dismissively... clearly playing. "You mean newer then when I had left?" She asked, curiously, quite pleased to have more people here. It was nice to know others took pleasure in the research she had started. "Oh?" She asked in a playful manner when Chen had commented about her admitting to be here for a visit. She watched as they were writing down the results of their findings on the patient in front of them. She was silent as she watched Chen whistle so that the patient would be taken away from them. "Don't toss them out too fast." She whispered, "Sometimes they come back as an undead.... which gives even more possibilities..." She warned, figuring to mention it since if you come back as an undead and were tossed out, it meant you were free.
She didn't want the lab to be attacked a second time. Once was enough to last her a life time. "At the very least, make sure they are truly dead first." She added, sure that Chen knew about this despite not mentioning it prior. It was just something that never came up because she was always busy with research and overseeing everything but now that was Chen's job. "I'd love to look around." She answered them in return, enjoying this place. To her it was her home, nothing could keep her away from it even though she was retired now. Secretly looking forward to the day that she'd be needed so that she could return back to work even though her time as the head of research was over. "Are any of them undead?" She asked curiously, hoping to check them out first. Most of her test subjects hadn't been undead, it wasn't until she had come back as one that she had figured out that it truly was a thing worth researching. Prior if any had come back alive, they were killed purposely on the spot or detained with some testing done before they lost the will to live, but now... the interest for testing undeads had increased if it was even possible to capture them.
"Uuugh-- Juvia, you know how I feel about being called cute." Which was all a blatant lie just to avoid ever hearing Juvia call them that. Who wouldn't lose it and potentially gain a tiny ounce of hope after hearing the person you've been pining after for so long call you cute? Chen shook their head, cleared their throat yet again and tried to reminder themselves that they had much more important things to prioritize than something as small as a compliment. "Right! Isn't that exciting? I'm happy to have found a few devoted individuals!" They were quite happy for the growth of people within the lab. More people meant more potential results or breakthroughs![break][break] Chen nods their head, listening fully to what Juvia had to say before they considered responding. Even if Juvia may not work here currently, some old habits of theirs remained such as this one. "Oh, yes! Of course. We know better than to chuck them free immediately after their death. We give it a couple weeks to see if they do come back, y'know? but... it's a pretty rare chance from my experiences." So it was why Chen shrugged off most of the failing subjects. Chen had a slow smile grow on their face as their elbow gently nudged into Juvia's arm. "I did say we had a few promising subjects, right? One happens to be undead. I think you'll get a real kick out of her." Chen leaned in a little, whispered a quiet."I'll even let you take a look if you wanna!" before motioning with their hand for Juvia to follow them into the next room over.[break][break] The set up had been about the same as the last room they were in but this one had been notably bigger and fit for a lot more subjects. Each had their respective area with machines they currently were attached to. "The one I mentioned to you is located in the back left corner. You can go on ahead and grab yourself what you need from over here--" They motioned to the area in front of them, having all the necessary tools locked safety away out of the grasps of the patients. "Ah, but of course you need access." To which they slipped her their card. "I got you~" Perhaps they eagerly wanted to see Juvia working in the lab just like old times. Watching Juvia was one of their favorite things after all.
Juvia couldn't help but giggle more as she listened to Chen. She then listened as they confirmed the new recruits that had joined the research team. "Very much so." She agreed, cheerfully. She then gave advice regarding the patients, nodding when Chen mentioned keeping them around to ensure they weren't return before deposing of them. "Good." She answered, pleased that things were still working smoothly here. Leaving this research in Chen's hands was the best decision she had ever made. She giggled when Chen had nudged her gently with their elbow, she listened as they whispered too her. "Oh?" She asked as she quickly followed them to the next room. She listened as Chen spoke, remaining silent as she took all the information in. She then giggled as Chen explained where the patient was at and how she'd be able to go on ahead. Oh how it would be possible if she still worked here, however she had retired, losing all access.
It seemed Chen soon figured out that she would need access because they soon made a comment about requiring it. "Why not come with me?" She asked, seeing no reason to take their card, only to borrow it as they were to head inside. She didn't believe anybody would have a problem with her being here despite retiring. She'd wait to hear what Chen would say to her suggestion, quite eager in getting to work in studying the undead.
"Praise already?" If the smile on the angel's face could get wider, it definitely just did. "I'll keep doing my best to guarantee things only look up~" Chen is pleased to see a satisfied reaction after sharing the update with Juvia. They knew just how important the research that had been left in their hands was to Juvia, and since her departure Chen made a promise to do everything they possibly could to see the end goal all while generally approving the capabilities of things around the lab. The more experienced hands they had around the more they might get an opportunity to luck out. [break][break] "Oh? Well, I'm not gonna say no to that invitation!" They figured Juvia would've wanted to get a good look on her own but if she didn't mind the presence of them... Chen would be more than glad to participate. It had been far too long since they've had to chance to see Juvia work in person which made this whole experience all the more thrilling. Chen liked the look Juvia usually took on when focusing-- a real part of the charm that has their eyes glued to her and her alone. They press the card to the door which had allowed them both to entire. Chen stepped to the side after they went in, allowing for Juvia to follow. [break][break] "She should be restrained so no need to worry! We can also put her under if need be. " After the whole accident that took place with Juvia... it made Chen go the extra mile to guarantee the safety of all the workers besides themselves. Chen couldn't imagine if they could handle being so careless as to lose another person in such a terrifying accident.
Juvia couldn't help but smile when Chen asked their question. "Always." She answered in return, pleased to see the smile on their face become wider. "Perfect." She answered in return, quite satisfied. She had then suggested for Chen to come along with her, happy when they agreed to join her. She watched the door as Chen pressed the card against it before watching it open for them to enter. She listened as Chen spoke, surprised by the heads up. It wasn't that the patient wasn't restrained, it was that I underestimated them. She thought to herself, "I'm not worried, you're here with me after all." She answered, nodding her head when Chen mentioned putting the patient under should it be required. After she had been attacked, she never did explain what had happened, choosing to keep that experience to herself. "We'll see if she requires it." She added after a moment of silence before moving closer to the patient. Out of habit, she'd check vitals first before moving onto checking the test marks that had been done on this patient. Besides giving injections, patients were subject to pain through means of being cut, even if they were healed later on.
"Huuh? I'm glad you feel confidently in my capabilities." Their hand moved to rest on their arm while they flexed playfully. Chen wasn't extremely strong but they had put a lot of effort into being fit enough in case something did happen that would cause for them to need to go in defensive mode. Their arms dropped back down to their side as the attention had shifted to focus on the subject they were now dealing with. "It's most likely... " Chen dropped silent and had chosen the route of watching Juvia work. If Chen was needed, They could step in and assist at anytime. "Or... not. Luckily for us she seems to be docile today! If you like I can retrieve her past results so you can make comparisons?" It was knowledge that Juvia wouldn't be aware of so to help her understand that they were dealing with they thought it might be a good plan. Chen had began to move through the nearby documents after swiping their card to open the storage. [break][break]
Chen had retrieved the folder and set it down on top of the container as their head turned backwards to take a quick glance at Juvia. "Seeing you work like this is pretty exciting. Makes me realize how much I miss having you around!"
Juvia giggled when Chen flexed their arm playfully. She then looked back at the patient, examining her. She listened as Chen first said most likely only to change their mind later. "That would be great." She answered them in return, still examining the patient while Chen moved to grab the documents. Oh how she craved working on these patients, experimenting was so much fun to her and oh, all the research to come from it too. She listened as the storage was opened, folder being withdrawn before the storage was closed once more and the folder was set on top of the container. "I missed being nearby you too. Watching you work, being watched as I work. It is just so thrilling, wouldn't you agree?" She asked in a playful manner before moving away from the patient to pick up the folder to examine the contains before closing it once more. "I see. I have a clearer picture of this patient now." She answered, nodding her head up and down before grabbing a scalpel before advancing towards the patient with it, preparing to cut her.
Their arms gently crossed against their chest as they paid close attention to Juvia. The way she looked so enthusiastic about the work warmed her heart, and her words were alone enough to confirm a growing suspicion they had for a while now. Chen wasn't sure why Juvia decided to retire in the first place. They loved this lab for a number of reasons but when they loved it the most was when the two of them were able to get together like this. "I couldn't agree more.... which is why I want to propose something." Their arms dropped to their side as they returned to the space right besides Juvia, glancing over the work of them cutting into the subject. "I know you quit and all but..." They hesitate, worried if suggesting such a thing would be overstepping... but it was much too late to stop now.[break][break] "Why not consider coming around more often? This place really thrives with you here." There was some truth to it but Chen couldn't deny the possibility of them just wanting to work with her again. "Besides, not only me feels this way. You... have a lot to offer and ...you look happy when you work." There was always a certain twinkle of determination in Juvia's eye when she'd take that scalpel in hand or another medical tool. [break][break] "Do you? and what are your thoughts?" They wonder if it would end up matching their own. Chen felt the patient held a lot of potential. They responded a lot better to the injections than half of the other subjects but... they were notably more sluggish than anyone Chen has worked on in a while.
Juvia listened as Chen spoke, pausing with the folder when she heard their question. It surprised her when they mentioned her quitting and she couldn't help but get the feeling she was about to be asked to rejoin. However, the question that had come from Chen made her breath with ease as a smile crossed her lips. "I'll try." She answered in return, having reasons for retiring but not ready to go into detail for why that had been. "Awww, that is so sweet of you all." She answered in return, taking this chance to look over the folder before closing it. "Maybe so, but I did leave this lab in good hands, after all." She told them in return before making her next comment. She reached for the scalpel, pausing when she heard their question. "This patient has potential, despite appearing sluggish. According to the file, she is responding well to the injections. From what I've seen in the past, I feel she can be compared to those ones we worked on prior to my retirement. Wouldn't you agree?" She asked, hoping Chen would remember those patients very well. In fact she was counting on them still being here.
It wasn't a no to which Chen was extremely happy to hear! They couldn't help but perk up in excitement and their lips tugged into a large grin. Seeing more of Juvia during work was making them anticipate the future. Though the comment that follows catches them off guard and they can't help but to stumble on their words in embarrassment. "Y-yeah! Of course... I learned from the greatest so I have to do a good job!" They didn't want to let Juvia down so Chen always put their best efforts forward. A small clear of the throat had them back on track; praise made them turn all putty. It was a real big problem, especially when they were having a serious conversation. "I actually agree with all of what you said!"[break][break] It's an acknowledgement of the work that Chen had been putting into the lab alongside those who worked with them. This was far more one of the greatest words of praise that Chen could ever hear. It definitely boosted their confidence with the work that they've been doing here. "I'm sure she'll end up being like all of the patients we worked on together back when you were in charge. It gives me hope that what we're working so hard to achieve is possible! It's all thanks to your research and the combined efforts of team working on this."
Juvia found herself happy when ever Chen was happy, she wasn't sure of this reason but believed it was based on the friendship they shared with one another. Granted at one point of time, she had viewed them as an interest, she was glad that she never had experimented on them and had taken them under her wing instead. Immortality, a subject she had been aiming to grasp since they had first met. A child hood dream. She then makes her comment, giggling when Chen stumbles backwards, clearly embarrassed. Their face expression was priceless and she couldn't help but desire seeing more of it. Chen was so adorable, trying to go from embarrassment to becoming serious again. It was almost as if she were being challenged to continue teasing them to see how long they'd last. She then answered the question Chen had asked of her. "Yes." She agreed before moving towards the patient once more to cut her. Sluggish or not, this undead didn't take too kindly to the cutting, but then again, who ever would? "Looks like we'll need to put her under after all." She answered, moving away.
Being blessed with hearing her giggle made Chen bite the inside of their mouth to choke back a quiet comment of cute. Even if the laughter was at the expense of them making a fool and being caught off guard. They’d do it more if it meant hearing that all over again. Though Chen was struggling ultra-hard with this whole flip flopping their mind was going through. Wanting to both gush over Juvia being here in person with them to try to appear as the cool and calculated researcher they’ve become since Juvia’s absence was proving difficult. [break][break]
Their attention focused back to the patient, lips losing the loved-filled smile and more bordering into an anger filled one. “How troublesome~ usually she’s much more behaved than this.” Chen makes sure to teach their patients that resistance is futile but Chen is already moving to retrieve the machine that’ll help put her under. With Anesthesia in hand, Chen had injected it into the patient while their other hand held the breathing tube that would soon move to help them remain stabilized as Juvia went to work. “Go on and do your thing, Juvia! It’s all good on my side. I’ll make sure the patient remains fine while you have fun and slice to your hearts content.”
