Welcome to The Duality of Man, an original animanga role-play that features numerous supernatural creatures. Unfortunately, these various species have distanced themselves because of the war that occurred thousands of years ago, plaguing some with eyes that only see their dualism. While others meddle themself with their differences, two groups fight, each attempting to eliminate the other in for their definition of worldly peace. These two groups of the Terror Response Syndicate (TRS) and the Assembly of Phantoms (AP). With individuals fighting merely over their differences, it brings uncertainty to the outcome of this war.
We happily accept all role-players as long as they obey the rules and are capable of meeting our word count of 50. This does include those who are unfamiliar with this style of role-playing. The staff of The Duality of Man are willing to happily help those who are new to the role-playing world so they feel comfortable on site. Feel free to message the staff if you need help, they can be found here or in the site Discord and will gladly answer questions alongside calm concerns. If you have any suggestions we would love to hear them; guests may use the support board as a suggestion area as well. Should you decide to join, may I say welcome to the site and we all hope you enjoy your time here.
Yours Truely,
The Staff

“I thought someone saw me come in your room and that they were coming up here for me…,” He grew awkward as he added, “Uh… that’s why I grabbed you. But no one’s come so that obviously wasn’t it.” [break][break] Thannah’s gaze moved from Nicolas and to the window as he went on to comment about the police not doing their jobs. She had heard like-minded thoughts from him many times already, and it was connected to how he had previously called them to report a kidnapping he had witnessed. They hadn’t done an adequate job and in the end Nicolas had intervened. Or, at least, that’s what all she had been able to gather. [break][break] The police were definitely after him, but according to what he had just said, it seemed that the demon wasn’t so sure. A knock at her bedroom door completely startled Thannah, causing her to tense up on her bed and then jerk her gaze toward the door. [break][break] “Thannah?” Her mother called and tried the door, finding it locked. Thannah’s gaze moved back Nicolas.
Nicolas’ gaze jerked away from her and toward the window for a moment of contemplation. “I’ll go,” He decided in a firm whisper and reached for the curtain. But, Thannah didn’t hesitate to stand from her bed and grab him by one of his jacketed arms. She pressed one finger to her lips to hush him as she pulled him away from the window and further into her bedroom. [break][break] “Hide in my closet, just like before,” She instructed in a whisper, her heart beating a little quicker as she told him as much. She wasn’t immune to what had happened to her, and saying as much to him felt… unpleasant. “I’m going to tell my mom I’m going to bed.” [break][break] She looked to him and there was a noticeable pause before she asked; “Do you trust me?” Her hushed tone was somewhat urgent, but internally she was silently thrilled by the idea of this scene playing out like one of those sappy dramas she had seen on television.
[attr="class","kodText"] She couldn’t be distracted by both of their thoughts infiltrating her at the same time, so Thannah turned the power off. Every time she did so she still suffered from the uncomfortable fear of not being able to and being overwhelmed by other’s minds. After all, that was what had happened to her… back then. [break][break] Thannah first flipped the switch to her lights, leaving her bedroom in the dark with the exception of an automatic night-light that turned on under poor lighting conditions, and then she opened her bedroom door. Her mother gave her a peculiar look, because she had obviously seen that her light had been on mere seconds ago, and Thannah gave her mom a look in return. [break][break] “I was just about to go to bed,” She conceded, having gotten into trouble by this point many other times for staying up past her bedtime. [break][break] “Well good, but that’s not why I came to check on you.” Her mother answered in return and folded her arms across one another over her chest. She was still dressed in her nightgown with her beautiful blond hair flowing over her shoulders and down her back like a waterfall. Ever the Elven beauty. “The police say some sort of armed assault happened in our neighborhood, so I want you to make sure your window is locked.” [break][break] Thannah’s expression fell into one of worry as she glanced back toward her window. Even with the light pink curtains drawn, moonlight still filtered in through a faint glow. “Okay, I’ll make sure to do that.” She reassured as she glanced back to her mother who gave a nod of her head, a flick of her hair, and then wandered off, already lost to her own musings. [break][break] Thannah’s expression fell into a frown as she watched her mother leave, and then finally closed the door, locking the latch once more.
“Someone must have seen me get attacked and called the cops,” Thannah turned to look toward the demon as he stepped from the closet and back into the hallway of her bedroom. Seeing him re-emerge from that place was a little… daunting. “I should go to them. Explain things. I really can’t thank you enough… Thannah.” [break][break] He gave her a smile, clearly feeling relief and gratitude. But, Thannah just stared back at him with concern while she internally went over what she had previously overheard from the polices thoughts. [break][break] “I… I’m not sure…,” She told him hesitantly and purposely pursed her lips together and bit on her bottom lip. Propping her elbow up onto one hand she pressed her other against her chin to appear deeply puzzled and disturbed by his conclusion. “When I listened by the door…,” She admitted to him slowly, her gaze lifting back to him and her brows drawn together. “I had thought that I heard the police say they were looking for a demon with blond hair.” [break][break] There was always the chance, she supposed, that the man he had saved the kid from had also met those qualifications (along with brown eyes and wielding a knife). [break][break] “Would you say… that describes your attacker?” She asked him slowly but curiously, with a soft tilt of her head.
“What?” He didn’t sound pleased, turning to glare down at the floor and then his reflection within the mirror. “No, it doesn’t.” Thannah carefully kept her expression a soft neutral as he revealed her suspicions that the police had actually been looking for him. Truth be told, she had never kept her mind reading ability passively on for such an extended period of time, listening in on one person while simultaneously attempting to have a conversation with them. It had been more mentally draining than she had realized, and she found herself feeling very reluctant to listen in again. It was too much of a… headache to do so. But, at the same time, she was greedy for all of the access it gave her. Ugh, it nearly left her nonfunctional conversation-wise, though. [break][break] Nicolas, the true demon, had taken to pacing the length of her bedroom. He had described to her briefly how the man who had attacked him and had kidnapped the kid hadn’t been a demon nor had he been a blond. [break][break] “...What are you going to do?” She asked him, finding her act to be rather appallingly sweet, given the circumstances. But, she had too much of a headache to really do much else. She gave him a look of concern and a small, worried, smile.
Thannah watched apprehensively, or so it appeared, with her hands gently clasped together in front of her, as the demon continued to stalk her room until he finally turned around sharply and let out a hiss of anger. “Nothing… if I’ve learned anything. Once someone says something against a demon, that’s it. I’m f***ed.” [break][break] At the use of his foul language, Thannah lightly flinched, like the sweet and innocent Christian girl she was. But, she wanted into his thoughts — she wanted to hear his reaction, his thoughts on everything. However, she was too mentally tired and knew she couldn’t. [break][break] “He’s just trying to rattle me, but it won’t work.” Nicolas ranted, and Thannah frowned, looking down at her clasped hands in front of her. “I know what he wants… compensation for stopping him.” [break][break] She did feel sorry for him in a genuine way. It sounded as though he had landed himself in more trouble than he had intended, and that the prejudice against him would cause him to be more likely to be persecuted by the law than the actual criminal. It was sad, considering he had done everything in his power (by the sounds of it) to help this kid as soon as he had seen what was going on. [break][break] Lorsette didn’t feel safe. With so many different creatures lurking about, it felt as though there could be killers around every corner. She didn’t like it here, and wished her father hadn’t taken the job transfer. [break][break] “I don’t know what I’m going to do. You’ve helped me though with hiding me here.” She looked back to him, and wondered if his life would be too wild for her. “I owe you… if you ever need anything just call that number and I’ll do whatever I can.” [break][break] “I’m… sorry… for what’s happened to you.” She wanted to say, because she did honestly feel as much. “It’s not fair when all you were trying to do was protect someone from harm.”
“It wasn’t that heroic.” He revealed after a pause, and Thannah remained silent as she listened to his story unfold. The thought of these type of people being out there in the world, and them doing such despicable things to other people, made her stomach churn. It was depressing to hear that the police hadn’t been helpful in this situation and had left the kid within the custody of the man who had forcefully taken him to his house. The idea of something like that… made her shudder. She had already been scared senseless from the break-in Nicolas had pulled, but she had been lucky that he had actually been a good guy. [break][break] By the end, Thannah had tears in her eyes, and felt sick and queasy, and it was most likely that which ultimately caused him to stop his story prematurely. “I’m sorry, you don’t need to hear this.” [break][break] She blinked back tears, and for once they were actually real. She didn’t want to become the victim of a person like that. She hated the thought of them remaining at large in Lorsette, right under all of their noses. “It’s terrible…,” She told him and brought her hand up to wipe at one of her eyes. “And scary… and horrible.”
Nicolas attempted to step toward her, perhaps even comfort her, but Holly chose to ruin the opportunity by barking at him. Thannah kept her gaze impassive but felt a flare of annoyance toward her puppy. What if he had brought her into his arms? It had been the perfect opportunity for something like that. Although, she wasn’t sure how she would have reacted if such a thing had actually transpired. [break][break] “It’s fine, I’m a demon. I can handle myself.” He told her instead. But, that hadn’t been what she had been worried about. It was true that he had also placed himself into danger, and it was a good thing she was so good at keeping most everything to herself. “He’ll be found and taken care of, I promise.” [break][break] “Are… you going to go and try to take care of him?” She asked him in clear surprise, and then she really did feel concerned for his safety. What a terrible thing to walk into. What a terrible idea — certainly something she would never do. [break][break] Gosh, would this be the last time she would ever see him? Couldn’t he… involve other, powerful, demons? Lorsette was teeming with wild creatures, surely there was something a bit more… sane, and careful, he could do. Throwing himself headlong at a murderer didn’t seem like the best choice. [break][break] “Maybe you should ask for help…,” She mumbled out uncertainly.
“...Uh, yeah. I’ve got people I can rely on.” His lie was completely see-through and she didn’t even need to be using her powers to decipher that. He had it written all over his features, and in the tone he had used when he had responded. A twinge of sadness befell Thannah as she thought about what she had gone through at her old middle school, and if people like Nicolas were just as susceptible to turn on her. It brought back memories of Guy Pierceton and the black inked note phrase he had scrawled out across her planner. In the end, he had been fooled by them as well… into believing… everything. [break][break] “I tell you what,” Nicolas’ interjection broke through her dampened thoughts and brought her violet gaze back to him, only to find him smiling at her. W-Wow, his attention really had shifted to her quite a lot, hadn’t it? “If you’re ever scared just give me a call. I’ll…” [break][break] He glanced around her bedroom and then gestured around, “I’ll check over your whole house if I have to just to make sure you’re safe.” [break][break] A blush darkened her cheeks, flattering her expression as her heart did a little flip-flop in her chest. And then she was smiling at him with gratitude and embarrassment, some of it feigned, some of it genuine. “Th-That’s so sweet of you. Thank you.” She sobered, her expression softening as she stared at him. “That… makes me feel a lot safer, after everything. I… I’ll get a ward charm as well, just like you suggested.”
“I can buy it for you and bring it over tomorrow if you like?” He actually offered her, and Thannah felt a mixture of happiness and… depression. She felt as though this scenario was just setting her up for another heartbreak. What was she doing getting all flustered and fanciful over him? Still, it was nice of him to offer something like that. She wondered if she had been able to hear his thoughts, would there have been anything revealing? She needed to be able to use her power and focus as well as decipher thought from speech. But, she was still too tired to do it right now. [break][break] “I… —I’d really like that,” She admitted a little shyly, clasping her hands together in front of her. She did think of actually asking him if they could go out and shop for it together, but she chose against the suggestion because of her knowledge on the predicament. He had a wounded kid to take care of, he was wanted by the police, and a dangerous criminal was after him. [break][break] A-Actually, was it wise for him to be frequenting her house w-with all of that currently going on?! It was a little too late for her to change her mind now.
Thannah looked back to Nicolas when he asked her what time would be good for her tomorrow. Now she was worried about what she had thought about, and she felt internally hesitant about him stopping by again. But, a thought occurred to her, and she put on a delightfully pretty little face for him. “Oh, maybe you can come at night again,” She decided with a cute little blush as she looked to him. “Knock on my window. ...H-How about… ten?”
She hadn’t expected him to blush, but seeing that her suggestion had actually brought embarrassment to his features, Thannah wondered how much of a virgin this demon was. She could barely stand not having her power on! She was so tempted to do it! She had to take in a deep breath to calm herself while he took a bit to answer. “I’ll be here at ten then,” He decided with a nod, and she gave him another excited smile. After all, there was something thrilling about having a demon come knocking on your bedroom window at night for a secret rendezvous. [break][break] “Will you be all right tonight? I can… make a hex on the window tonight as something temporary if it helps.” He offered her and she glanced to her window, genuine concern filling her once excited features. [break][break] “Will… anyone be able to see it?” She asked, being none the wiser for that sort of thing. Cautiously, she approached the window for a closer inspection, and could see that the police were no longer on the street and everything had returned to normal. “Or… sense it?” She turned to look back at him, all imploringly. “I wouldn’t want to draw unnecessary attention. But, if you think it’s… discreet… I’d love the extra protection.”
“Uhhh… I can make it less conspicuous? But I’ll need chalk and do you have anything I can tie to your window?” Nicolas answered and Thannah continued to stare up at her window for a prolonged moment until he began to explain in further detail what it was that he needed to make. Her violet gaze slid to him as she listened. “I just need a string, and something to draw a sign on and then you can put it up here so no one can see.” [break][break] “Hmm,” She hummed softly, and tapped her index finger against her chin before she chose to wander off further down her bedroom. Coming to her crafting area at the far wall, she turned on the desk lamp and searched the second drawer of her tall cabinet to pull out a box of white chalk. [break][break] “Here…,” She mumbled as she set it down onto the top of her desk and then moved to another drawer to pull out a large bundle of soft pink yarn in hopes it would pass for the string, placing it beside the chalk. “And… hmm.” She rummaged around delicately in her drawers until she came across a sticky pad of heart shaped paper in a pink gradient dark enough for white chalk. [break][break] “How about this?” She asked as she turned to face Nicolas.
Needless to say, Thannah was surprised when the two of them happened to speak up over one another, and she put on a dainty little blush as she heard the demon lightly chuckle as he tapped the pink purse she had been working on. “This will be perfect,” He told her confidently and she smiled at him in a shy and polite sort of way, internally feeling giddy and wondering a bit wildly if… they were being flirtatious with one another? Despite her interest (and involvement) with boys throughout the years, it all still felt so new, and she so naive and inexperienced. [break][break] “A-Ah, yes, I did,” She told him cutely, and with a smile, as she lifted one hand to tuck a stray strand of hair behind one ear.
Yeah, I know. ^^ Thanks for the post. I'm not feeling very well, either, but I'm trying to gather some muse. I give you... a very small post. xD Ta-dah!
Thannah watched with intrigue as the demon began to draw a symbol down on the pastel pink sticky note she had provided him. She still couldn’t believe everything that had happened, and it was all still a little frightening. Or, rather, more than just a little frightening, if she were to be completely honest. Just what sort of other monsters would possibly visit her bedroom in the middle of the night? While in Lorsette, there was no telling what monstrosities lurked just beyond the curtains of her bedroom window. [break][break] However, Nicolas, if he were truly everything she had read from his thoughts, had turned out to be more of a savior and hero than the demon his horns eluded to. It seemed he had been the one placed in a dangerous situation that had caused him to jeopardize the life of a cute and innocent young maiden. [break][break] “I will bring you that medallion tomorrow night, and this should last until then.” He spoke up and drew Thannah from her thoughts, causing her violet gaze to lift from the symbol he had drawn and look to him instead. And she watched, in fascination, as he began to glow a deep blue hue, his mouth working silently, chanting words from his language that she couldn’t hear or decipher, as his dark aura pulsed into the paper he had turned into the ward. [break][break] With an inwardly devious, and excited, smile, that just touched the corners of her lips, Thannah purposely reached forward and placed a tentative hand against one of his bare arms, fascinated and intrigued as to what it would feel like with the aura radiating off of him like that.
