joseph e. aaron what were you before it all disappeared? general info
appearance Unique in body, Joseph is a man easily recognized by a majority of people. At an intimidating height of 6’2”, his height combined with his unique appearance often accumulates curious stares. He is a well-built man with a slender build and average width shoulders. He lacks significant muscle, being rather leaning with muscle long withered from travelling and no longer hard exercise. His legs are relatively long and are what make up a majority of his height. From his build are wispy clouds of smoke around both his head and feel, obscuring them. His flesh and the wispy clouds match in the shade, both being black as night and unique due to a previous boogeyman heritage. Hidden in the blackened smoke is a mouth, difficult to see, but existent, the black occasionally holding a blue hue. The man’s countenance possesses a similar black complexion and lacks any hair, the top of his head drifting off into thick smoke. There is little shape to Joseph’s face leaving little significance other than his unique shading and striking eyes. The shape of his face has the softest point for a nose, however, straight on the nose would be difficult to see. Hidden in the blackness of his face is a small mouth that is nearly impossible to see unless someone is closely examining his face. The most unique traits of Joseph’s face are the bright white eyes shining from his face that lack pupils or colouring. Around the rims of his eyes are a more striking, blue colouring with his eyes sometimes gaining a bluish smokey appearance around the point. The clothing worn by Joseph is nothing of a particular style with the man wearing whatever he can. Without a means of income, Joseph often wears comfy clothes he finds that are often strained and torn. Though at all times, Joseph wears a rifle on his back and a small bag that he carries the stuff he collects in. personality
abilities Physical Form -- Advanced The ability to enter physical form. Among the only Joseph is familiarized with is entering his physical form. He can restore himself to this form with ease, a single thought granting him access to his physical form. When in this form, he is able to access a different subset of abilities, however, his capabilities with those are questionable at best. Due to finding it easier to go into physical form, Joseph does not get tired returning to it. Telekinesis -- Intermediate Spiritual Form -- Beginner The ability to shift into a spiritual form, allowing the user to access a different set of abilities. Aa a form never used, Joseph’s abilities in spiritual form are limited at best. Due to his lack of awareness with his abilities, his spiritual form. Should he use it, he would enter this form exhausted and confused by his abilities. The only fortune he would receive is being spared from the physical world. Phasing -- Beginner Flight -- Advanced The ability to soar or float in the sky. Among the only abilities Joseph does actively use and know about, he has worked on it to a degree. The ability’s power was trained from circumstances of accidentally floating because he wanted to join the birds. The young man is capable of flying reasonably high and for impressive amounts of time, allowing Joseph to spend hours soaring through the sky. He has also used the ability as a levitation at times to grab things beyond his height range. His strength comes with simple flying and struggles with anything extremely complex. Long-term flight can gradually lead to exhaustion, meaning Joseph cannot fly endlessly. Additionally, storms can still manage to knock him out of the air, making for a risk in flying in them. backstory Trigger Warning: Mentions of War, Violence, Gore Tear the packet and pour the powder, load the ball and pack it down. Ready, Aim, Fire! Joseph Edgar Aaron was a man born into the early Victorian period to Alexander and Kate-Anne Aaron. Prominent traits of the Aaron clan were displayed across the man’s appearance with black flesh, hollow, white eyes and dissipating smoke from their bodies. The family was renowned for their boogeyman heritage, making their unique and striking appearances a well-known trait of the Aarons. While his appearance was primarily derived from his father, the wispy smoke-like elements derived from his mother; an addition to their striking stature. The unique composure of his body made Joseph a striking individual, with many recognizing the young man in their city. Well-known loyalists to their hierarchy and willingly successful in their present age, plenty positive could be stated about the Aarons. In a world brimming with biases, they managed to be revered well among the Hell species meanwhile begrudgingly complimented by species who consider those of Hell lesser. While they accomplished duties aplenty, their species summoned forth mixed feelings among the more discriminatory, but nonetheless, they persevered. Alas, the power in the Aaron family arrived with requirements by the individuals inside. From the beginning, Joseph’s parents possessed a restrictive vice grip on the actions conducted by those within. There were inevitable rules and expectations, his parents demanding absolute power by those within. Even in his toddler years, Joseph received limited play time and affection, instead being shipped into the arena of learning, working and developing oneself once the possibility arised. Despite the educational circumstances of the time, Joseph became among the few to receive an education. However, the tutors that arrived in his youthful years were harsh, a single wrong answer of a moment of wandering eyes being greeted with a firm smack to his hands. He was forcefully taught attentiveness in the callous methods. Cruelness allegedly summoned respect from those of a lower standing, and it was practiced with authority within the Aaron home. As he grew into a child, his parents exhibited similar favourings of the physical disciplinary actions. Incorrect behaviours or failures were greeted with a harsh smack or occasional slap across his face. Their words were “designed” to drive them as they chastised the incapable child for his “foolish” inability to immediately catch onto everything. The circumstance of his childhood inevitably suffocated him and well Joseph exhibited the utmost respect for his parents, there was always a distinct fear distilling his heart. As a child, he shied away from discussing topics of contention with his parents, believing he would get scolded or punished for merely inquiring. He learned hastily his parents expected to catch on fast and know everything he was required to. The Aaron name arrived with a strenuous expectation and as Joseph Edgar Aaron, he would fulfill those wherever possible and push himself to their limits rather than his own. As the only son, it was the single goal drilled into his head since his birth on that early winter’s day. An Aaron had duties to carry out, and in his youth, Joseph would assist around the household alongside his strict, cruel studies without a single complaint registered. It was his expectation as their only son for the men were never supposed to complain or squirm out of tasks. The boogeyman grew into a studious young man with the proper manners and the positive behaviours his parents deemed proper. Unfortunately, their pride would never be placed into words despite Joseph’s efforts. There was no reward for his efforts, yet, despite those messages being laid clear, he continued to obey the whims of his parents. His desires to bring them pride and become everything they wished of him drove Joseph to the lengths he went. The respect their family received, his parents included, was beyond important and considerably measured in its response. A power dynamic existed, their respect garnering them the wishful gazes of those his parents considered under them. Their loyalty was believed unmatched by many, everyone believing they would do anything to protect their country. It would be tested a time after Joseph’s basic schooling when the canon blasts and smoke rose in the form of war. Though when the time of war and anguish arrived at their feet, Joseph’s father sent him forth under the guise of fulfilling a family duty and wishing to witness his son earn the same respect passed through their generations... and it worked. Trained to become a soldier, Joseph discovered himself an oddball amidst the musket firing squads and questionable living spaces. Though, having grown in a tumultuous childhood brimming with restrictions and life cages, the army offered him something his parents never could, a sense of freedom. Among the filth and rigorous tasks, Joseph was capable of discovering a sense of self and breaking away from the Aaron Family expectations. While he kept his speech tidy and himself away from mischief, he occasionally sipped the low-brow alcohols and participated in the games designed to up morals. His time in training allowed him to forge friendships and learn survival, furthermore, his reading capabilities became a handy tool for those who entered from beyond low-income families. He felt successful in an area that granted him more breathing room than his parents ever could. Despite the restrictions from higher ups, Joseph discovered an odd sense of comfort in it all. However, later would arrive coming to terms with the notion of death. The depressive reality of it all dragged on Joseph, but with a duty levied on his shoulders, the soldier would march into battle on the regular. The frightful nature of war was a suffocating experience for Joseph as he bunkered down into the harsh reality. Around him people would die, their blood pouring out as they choked out dying breaths. The first time, it inevitably shook Joseph up, however, he was shook back into the gunfire and smoke without hesitation. At every turn he was reminded about his duties to his country, thus he pushed himself despite the horrors around him. Being in the army hardened Joseph as he transformed from a freedom-lacking gentleman to a rough and tough stern-faced soldier. He accomplished what he required and despite the sorrows of losing those considered close to him, he would mourn before moving on. He had picked up smoking a pipe in time to edge off the insurmountable stress pressing his shoulders. It was his requirement to protect those around him from the hell raining upon them. Through his surface, Joseph gained honours aplenty and was renowned as a good soldier. He was admirable and accomplished the tasks set out for him by the higher ups. Alas, Joseph would inevitably be thrown into peril. It was merely another mission involving uprooting the enemy from their fortified home and leaving them cast into the open. He understood the objectives and as always, musket in hand, Joseph was prepared to carry everything out. In the beginning, they marched through the smoke of firing muskets and hail of metal balls in their tactical rows, attempting to make their way closer. Around him people fell, yet, in a soldier’s spirit he proceeded forward without hesitation. The steady march of a man on a mission, he never faltered nor ceased, until everything drastically changed. A crucial portion of their plan involved the arranging of an ambush from the back of the compound, trapping them against the walls to meet their inevitable demise. Their people were supposed to be set in their locations, prepared with the weapons and tools to ruin the enemy’s fortifications and lives. However, as they pinned themselves on the edge and made their way in, did the fire start from behind them. Around him large metallic balls blasted through walls and people without a second thought. The screams of his falling allies surrounded him as the wreckage came down upon him and everything turned a haunting black. The return of light and his consciousness was greeted with the sounds of discussing voices, distant and muffled. As his eyes cleared, the decorated soldier discovered himself among a handful bound tight by ropes as their allies spoke with the enemies. A nasty group of traitors had altered the plans, taking bribes from the enemy in favour of betraying those they were sworn to protect. The days following their capture were greeted with endless amounts of cruelty as their captors tortured them and enjoyed their twisted games. Their arrogant flaunting of capability in capturing them and spending their time on vengeance. Over the months, Joseph was placed into hell hearing his allies scream in horror and experiencing the nasty nature of being injured himself. He discovered himself becoming mentally, emotionally and physically drained at every turn as he prayed for someone would rescue their tortured souls. Unfortunately, when their captors grew bored with their sickening games, a musket would meet their heads and one by one they would be dead. Joseph, in his final moments, still felt there was plenty unfinished with his discovery of freedom in the army not lasting beyond it... and as the barrel was lined up and his blood was splattered across the ground, something stirred. Death was the end of everything, yet, at times it marks new beginnings for a lost soul. Heat tickled the face of a smoke-headed man laying in a field with only a pipe and a musket beside him. His white eyes blinked in the sunlight coating his face. Around him birds chirped and branches waved in a peaceful reverie of nature. Those would become his first official memories as he shuffled himself into a sitting position, his eyes analyzing the items beside him. An old pipe and a musket with the engraving Joseph E. Aaron on the handle. As a nameless man, he adopted the name engraved on the weapon. The two items became his only familiarity as he rose, eyes scanning the fresh world around him. Confusion existed in his whitened eyes as the man quietly walked around his new surroundings and attempted to understand everything. All he learned in the initial days was his admiration of birds and the beauty of butterflies and flowers. He found himself happy to meet the wildlife around him, and for a time, he believed it was everything in life. Gradually, Joseph learned about the world and travelled through the land, learning about nature and shying away from confrontation. He learned the abilities of flight and a limited number of other ones in his moment of fear. At one point in his wandering, Joseph managed to travel to Canada, where he had remained for a great deal of time. With modern restrictions making travel more difficult, Joseph has discovered himself remaining in Canada. He learned his dislike of winter and slowly learned to survive off of the lack of funding he had. As of present, he lives homeless and clueless, knowing whoever he was has been forgotten and the cracking hints of a memory before being burried beneath the dirt. misc Likes: Birds, star gazing, nature walks, learning, butterflies, flowing water, bottle caps, rocks, observing, sunlight, soft things, animals, feathers, fruits, watching the clouds, resting, singing, flowers, flight Dislikes: Winter, deep water, loud noises, crowds, fighting, cloudy nights, storms, thunder, bullies, screaming, cold temperatures, wind, fire, threats, complex topics, getting stuck, injuries, heavy objects Fears: Horses, hospitals, saws, gunfire, knives, death - Unknown to Joseph, the E in his name stands for Edgar.
