tell me reality is better than a dream.
Defined by a somewhat dwarfed height of 5’6”, few discover themselves intimidated by Baylor Maxwell. Though his shortened height creates illusions of weakness, the young nekomata’s body proves impressive. His frame is marked by a set of lean muscles capable of hiding beneath clothes; as long as the fit is not skin-tight. Regularly, Baylor’s subtle muscle goes unnoticed unless touched or exerted. These muscles have limited definition when revealed, being most noticeable under circumstances of use rather than rest. His complexion is fair in colour, with soft, pink undertones to the skin. Scars and other blemishes are nonexistent on Baylor, however, it is noted he has small, semi-plump hands. Oftentimes, his nails are well-maintained and kept short to assure no breaks or pains should there be a court disturbance.
The facial features obtained by Baylor are best described are soft and gentle. A pair of medium-height cheekbones lead to soft but filled cheeks. His jawline is slender, leading to a softly rounded chin. A petite nose is placed on Baylor’s face, the nose having a slight upturn and gentle point. Striking against Baylor’s complexion and hair are a pair of bright, golden eyes that shine in the light. Regularly, they are softened in tone, the young man lacking a harsh gaze to a majority of people with minimal exceptions. His eyes only harden and turn harsh on problematic criminals. From his hair are soft locks of short near-black hair with slight undertones of a gentle navy. His hair is wavy, generally being considered messy in a way. A small patch of bangs does attempt to drift into Baylor’s eyes.
As somebody renowned for his nervousness, Baylor regularly avoids tight or revealing clothing. He prefers clothing that is both comfortable and practical, leading to them being in a casual style. At most, Baylor will wear a t-shirt and nothing shorter than that. The colours and shades are worn by Baylor are regularly among the darker variety. During work hours, Baylor wears his uniform at all times.
Feline Shift -- Mastered
The ability to transform into a large, fluffy black cat. The ability is rarely used for combat, defence or even retreat and instead is used for the purpose of comfort. Oftentimes, being in feline form makes Baylor feel at ease on days where he finds himself incredibly nervous. Additionally, he will transform to sunbathe and relax. He does enjoy receiving pets in this form and will purr should someone show him that affection. Only occasionally will transforming into his cat form be used to escape due to the faster and more dexterous form of a cat. Should Baylor be injured in feline form, he will automatically shift back. Depending on the severity of the injuries, Baylor may not be able to shift for weeks at a time.
Darkness Manipulation -- Mastered
The ability to control and manipulate darkness, allowing the user to make shields, weapons and mists. An ability learned in excess after he left home, Baylor worked endlessly at his darkness manipulation to make him a proficient bailiff. Both from an offensive and defensive standpoint, Baylor worked hard in learning the abilities. The dark-haired man is known for making thick mists to disorient enemies or tough walls to defend himself and others. This can include large hemispheres that with focus can stay up for long periods of time. On the offence, Baylor regularly makes a sword-like construct to swing, large plates to push people back and many long needles to bring people down. The method Baylor’s manipulation is accomplished is to cease people’s movements and bring them down without injury. This often leads to Baylor’s opponents facing injuries to their legs to bring them down and arrest them rather than kill. Extensive battles can lead to exhaustion should Baylor use the ability too much. Furthermore, daytime can result in Baylor being required to create darkness and will result in him growing more tired.
Enhanced Speed -- Advanced
The ability to move faster than the average individual. Enhanced speed has added sharpness to Baylor’s movements, granting him a quick reaction time. The combat-oriented training of the Maxwells has prepared Baylor to use his enhanced speed to the utmost efficiency. Oftentimes, Baylor’s enhanced speed is used for dodging. Smoothly, he can weave around attacks with the slickness of a cat. Thus, rather than using the physical capabilities for hasty barrage attacks, Baylor primarily uses the defensive and evasive powers of enhanced speed. Extended use of the ability can lead to quick exhaustion or even soreness/stiffness in Baylor’s muscles. Additionally, injuries to the areas being enhanced may face further damage under the pressures of enhanced speed.
Naturals: Enhanced Dexterity, Enhanced Senses, Night Vision, Enhanced Stealth, Immortality
Raised in a household filled with intellects and combat experts, Baylor always discovered himself blindsided by the world around him. Trillions of stories based around the Maxwell Family from further back than the War of Traitors to present accomplishments in the war between TRS and AP proved they could thrive multiple times over. A pack of stunning warriors all related by blood and capable in action. Each stunning action was memorable as the Maxwells told people of their heroic efforts to save others from death. From the beginning, Baylor’s eyes sparkled with endless curiosity as he observed his family practice and improve themselves. The clashing swords and winding abilities remembered from the days of his youth. Through the initial years, he viewed the practicing of magnificent heroes. His parents told him endless stories about his family and their victories, pedestalling the wonders the powerful warriors accomplished. Achievements were considered gold, treated as a glittering award among the handfuls of battles and struggles, and it all formulated in Baylor’s head at a young age.
Always a timid child, Baylor was considered an outlier among the confident family of fighters. A soft, gentle toddler who would spend his days watching butterflies flutter or smelling the beautiful flowers available on their expansive front lawn. His interests in fighting, abilities and weapons were limited from the beginning. Whenever his parents brought him to observe the sparring matches, his eyes wandered, searching for the gorgeous nature. Despite the clashing swords, shouts and cheers, the child struggled to maintain interest in concepts such as fighting. Through his toddler years, his parents allowed him to flourish in the manner he wished, going to lengths to believe he would come around. Around Baylor were endless amounts of combat-oriented conversation and actions. They believed the exposure would result in him inevitably entering the battlefield. Their beliefs were not profound given the circumstance, however, they were unaware of their child’s wishes. How he craved the peaceful rather than the obstructive.
At 5, Baylor began his education, his parents signing their child up for a private school. They wished to maximize the potential of their family and provide plenty of open doors for their child. Naturally, they expected Baylor to enter an occupation oriented around combat, however, they wanted to provide their child with a sparkling education and endless amounts of capabilities. Though, despite his lineage being considered prestigious, he struggled under the eyes of his peers, discomfort entering him quickly. The people around him derived from families known for their intense intelligence, and it exhibited their high marks. Their smarts compared to Baylor’s slightly over-average intelligence were beyond anything imaginable. Thus, Baylor was considered inferior due to his lacking of those concepts. Regularly, the timid child was picked on and informed about his lack of capability. It boiled him down and led Baylor to be an anxious child.
As Baylor grew, the arrangements for his combat training were being accomplished. Despite their child exhibiting nervous traits, his parents believed their son would grow out of it. In tragedy, they would be incorrect about the notion of their son improving over time. The trepidation within his heart lingered, clinging to the child similar to glue. Nonetheless, the training arrived as his parents began showing him the various moves. He struggled through learning the combat practices, however, they kept pushing him forward. From slashing out with practice rounds, launching fists for close combat and pushing him to excellence. A child complacent because of his parents’ authority, Baylor was trained for a majority of his life well struggling with underlying beliefs of failure. Despite that, he pushed forward, determined to show himself as worthy of their time, yet, at every turn, his confidence shook. He was a child around stunning warriors, and for himself, he wanted something similar with limited action. He wished to make them proud, but not himself unhappy.
Entering high school led to the arrival of the biggest stress factors in Baylor’s life. From learning the lessons of driving down to exams, everything was placing pressure on the young man. The dark-haired man’s anxieties only skyrocketed with every spoken word and bullying comment. On a daily, worries flooded through the young man’s head about the adequacy and his capabilities as a person. Hours would be spent anxiously doing homework, verifying his answers and praying he could prove himself among his peers. There were no alterations in the behaviour exhibited by his peers despite his efforts. Condescending words suffocated Baylor with every second as everybody wished to inform him of how incapable he was. Through the whimpered words, Baylor never caught a break within the private school that taught him. Meanwhile, his homelife overwhelmed him as his parents discussed how incredible an officer or TRS hunter their son would be, when he wished neither. A breath of calmness never entered his lungs during the final years of high school. Graduation approached rapidly, his fingers shaking and his mind rattled throughout it as he attempted to search for sanction.
The week leading up to graduation was the most stressful as finals approached around the corner and his parents pestered him about which job he wanted. The young teen felt the stress smothering him and pulling him beneath the turbulent waters of life. Eventually, everything began flooding over as the stress levels went too high and he went out shouting. All his anxieties were shouting out to his parents as he shook and quivered, his uncertainty for the future or for success boiling him down into a shaking mess. He thought he would end the day on the floor, hearing their disappointment. Instead, the softest hands touched his shoulder and the young man was led to sit down. They discussed everything, from his occupation anxieties down to the perpetual bullying of his peers. For his sake, arrangements were made for Baylor to finish his exams without the presence of his peers and to not be required to attend the graduation ceremony. On the wishes of still making the Maxwell family proud, Baylor began looking into law-oriented jobs that would find his fighting skills useful, but not invoke the endless use for them. In the end, he gained the schooling and training required to work as a bailiff, a job he found interesting.
Presiding over court proceedings was a comfortable notion to Baylor. He learned plenty and found himself somewhat eased despite the stricter nature of the job. As his easement arrived, minor comforts in moving out and even accomplishing nightly outings became easier. The young man, well anxious, felt more comfortable in his skin than ever before. It would be recent in his mid-twenties when he met Fang Jaing, the orange-haired man he would come to date. The energetic young man brought a sense of life to Baylor’s world, even though the embarrassed fluster. Everything felt on track, thus, for once the dark-haired man found himself comfortable and freed from the endless waves of anxiety in his youth.
